We came to visit Durant for the Memorial Day weekend and really wanted to try some BBQ. Now, being from Texas it's hard to find anything that compares, so we went in knowing it would probably taste very differently than what we're used to. This place was absolutely delicious!! We went twice, so tried the chopped beef, sausage, and fish. The chopped beef wasn't as shredded as what we're used to, but it was tender and had a great flavor. I got the Mac n cheese bacon bowl, which was a large bowl full of Mac n cheese, topped with bacon and chopped beef. My husband got the sausage and chopped beef Po'boy sandwich. The waffle fries were extremely fresh and had that good consistency between squishy and crispy (that means a lot coming from me since I don't like mushy fries at all). The 2nd day we went we got a loaded baked potato with chopped beef (ordered an extra side of meat once it came out because it wasn't as much meat as expected). The potato was gigantic! I ate some of his and he still had some to take with us. I had the 2 filets of fried fish, Mac n cheese and fries. The fish had a great flavor and was nice and crispy on the outside. Day one, the place was packed and service was still extremely fast. The servers were all hopping, keeping up with every single table. Day two, it was about half full and the service was still great. Stopped in town to charge our car and walked down for a bite. Best barbecue we have had in a while! We were especially impressed with the Ribs, pulled pork and corn fritters. Main Street BBQ not only has a delicious lunch and dinner menu- but their new breakfast is TO. DIE. FOR- one word- biscuits. I don't know how they do it but the biscuits are literally the best I've ever had. It's like biting into a delicious cloud. The Denver omelette, breakfast sandwich, and their potatoes that come as a side are all awesome choices! They are doing everything right when it comes to feel good food. I am in Durant just for today and wanted to hit up a local spot. This BBQ joint had good reviews on yelp and was in downtown so I thought I'd give it a try. It's in a great spot and in a really cool historic looking building that's been redone to be trendy. The inside is industrial cool with some neat western decor. The service here was pretty good. We were greeted quickly and advised to sit where ever we'd like. A server came by quick and got our drinks and took our order. The food was pretty good. Decent portion size and it seemed more fresh than frozen. I had a chopped brisket sandwich and my wife had a BBQ baked potato with pulled pork. There was plenty of meat in each dish and tasted good, but wasn't as good as I hoped based on reviews. I am one of those guys though who had been to the big name BBQ joints in Memphis, KCMO and Texas. For Oklahoma this is pretty good, especially for small town. Usually a good meal, the food was pretty consistent, however, we have had a few bad experiences recently that are hopefully flukes. The first incident, we found a hair in our waffle fries, not just a small hair but a very very long hair that my girlfriend had the misfortune of finding alittle too late. I had lunch here on my way from Tulsa back to Dallas on 11-30-19. The place is cute and clean. The service is very friendly, but not tremendously attentive. I ordered a brisket and smoked sausage plate. The sausage was (or at least tasted) commercially made (a big negative for a real BBQ place) but had OK flavor, nothing great. The brisket was the real disappointment. It was flavorless. It was overcooked in the sense that it lost nearly all of its texture and was dried out. The cure was to douse it in sauce, a big "no no", but the only fix. In all fairness, it tasted like my Romanian grandmother's brisket, but that was done in an oven with onions on top. Not that I didn't love my grandmother, but BBQ was not in her lexicon. It's not really in Main Street's either. True, I have had worse. But, I've had much better. Try it if you're starving. Was suggested we visit this place on a short drive up from Dallas. The recommendation was amazing. Was told I should try the Frito Chili Pie but went with the fried brisket instead, which was cooked to perfection. Husband got ribs and sliced brisket that were also amazing. Judging by the smell of bbq outside and the crowd of people, even during Covid, coming to dine at this restaurant, I'm guessing that you can't go wrong with much if anything on their menu. We were in the Durant area last month and decided on Main Street Barbecue after reading the other reviews. Our waitress, Madison, had the BEST customer service. I had let her know it was our first time there and asked her recommendations. After placing our lunch order the she came back with a rib for each of us since we didn't order them and could know what they taste like for future reference. (And now I know I will return to order the ribs!- tender and just right!) My husband ordered a meat plate (chose turkey, ham, & brisket) with cole slaw. I ordered sliders (chose ham, brisket, & pulled pork) which were the perfect size (Hawaiian rolls) and delicious. My side of bbq beans were good and sweet and the fried green beans were as good as the other reviews had said. We were beyond stuffed. We will be in the area again this weekend and look forward to returning to Main Street Bbq. read more

On our trip to Texas we had bbq in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Durant, OK. I know comparing this restaurant to other restaurants in a big city may not be fair. The atmosphere here is cool and very country bbq style. The food was just ok. There are way too many fried food options on the menu! You leave feeling like all u ate was grease. The catfish is the best I've ever eaten . Perfectly cooked and breaded and seasoned . The barbecues good and moist . Great sweet potatoes and baked potatoes . Stopped here on the way home from Dallas. We usually don't get off the highway too far, but so glad we did! It all sounded so good and we wanted to try it all so we split the big pig plate. Woah! We are big eaters and we had a box full to take home. You can usually judge a bbq place by their ribs and these ribs were sooooo good! We've had bbq all across the mid and southwest and this place hold its own with some of the best we've had. We will probably make this a regular stop on our monthly trip. It has changed.., menu was totally different so ordered frito chili pie and wings.. wings were chicken Brest chunks which is white meet and taste nothin like a wing.. terrible! Frito pie has way more Frito than chili cheese or onions etc.. there was no garnish is like sour cream or chives. 9.84 plus tax for chili pie alone! This is a new favorite for our family! We are from Texas and have eaten a lot of BBQ and this place is excellent. We do a lot of traveling and never know what to expect with new places to eat, but we were all pleasantly surprised at how great the BBQ is at Main Street! This is not just a stop along the way place... this is a drive out of your way to get here place. Clean and friendly! Great service! And the food... yum! Ribs have a dry rub that's Awesome! They are meaty and not fatty. Smoked chicken was excellent... sliced in long strips and good cuts of meat. My daughter had the fried catfish and the crispy batter was a thin layer and it was almost as good as my dad's homemade catfish he catches and cooks himself. My son got the pulled pork and brisket... also a great choice! We got to chose our sauce and got the Smoky BBQ sauce and mild BBQ sauce - both delicious! We had to try the fried green beans after seeing the reviews on yelp - and we were not disappointed! We got these as an appetizer and dipped them in ranch and we all enjoyed them. They have a little bit of a kick that sets them apart. They are a must try! The Mac and cheese was creamy with a spiral noodle (not Kraft) and delicious! My son usually likes Kraft said this might be his favorite macaroni and cheese ever. Fried Okra was crispy and good too. The sweet and unsweet tea tasted freshly brewed. They even offer "to go" drinks without asking. It was filling and we all left happy. They even have a drive through, but I'm glad we went inside to enjoy the friendly staff and customers and Texas decor. The wait was quick and I don't think I have anything negative to say. If you love good BBQ, this is a must try! For our family of four, we enjoyed the ribs, smoked chicken, chopped brisket and pulled pork. For the sides, we picked the green beans, barbecue beans, corn fritters, mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious. My husband said the ribs were probably the best he's ever had, which is saying a lot since he's pretty hard to please.
