Street parking and walk up window Pick up via Too Good to Go. No guarantee on contents but was hoping for variety. Received 4 house baguettes, disappointed at first but the baguettes are so friggin delicious, I relented quickly. Do you ever eat a whole roast chicken in your car with your hands like a feral first world car driving creature? Well a baguette en route to your destination is also amazing albeit a bit more flour dusty. Crisp crust and tender delicious center. Oh my god. This is without a doubt one of the best sandwiches in LA. I was worried whether they would be sold out of anything since I showed up half hour before close but they still had the Daniel's Favorite and a basket of pastries available so I added on a croissant as well! Total for a half sandwich and pastry was $15. Service is great, I was helped by a cashier and then handed my bag by who I assume is Chef Daniel Matho himself less than 3 minutes after ordering. I dig into that sandwich right away and lord have mercy... THIS is a sandwich! Not full of extras like oil and vinegar, a dozen different meats, fluffed up with lettuce... simple bread butter meat and cornichons. The bread is phenomenal. Just the right Christine's and chew, with an immense baguette scent that just sends you to another world. The prosciutto wasn't salty, thinly sliced and piled high. The cornichons are sharp but crunchy and balance well. And all that delicious butter, yum!! Sadly the croissant wasn't as great as I expected, it was still good but not a top croissant for me as it was a bit dry and although better than 99% of places in LA, I wouldn't come back for it. All in all, a SOLID well deserved 5/5 stars for that sandwich that I can not wait to come back for again. read more

I have driven by this place many times, Saw a long line of people, and l finally stopped. I had the egg sandwich, a pistachio croissant and a latte. The bread for the sandwich was delicious and freshly made, which caused the eggs sandwich to be delicious. The pistachio paste inside the croissant was OK. But the croissant itself was amazing, The latte with sweet, which is perfect for my taste. I will definitely stop by to try something else. Parking to be hectic, but it's worth it. read more

The jamon beurre is simple, but delicious. The bred, butter and ham are all really good quality. $18 is a lot for a sandwich, but I would treat myself once in a while for it. Also the portions pretty considerable, the half was fine for me for one sitting. We also got the rilette and prosciutto sandwich. The pork rilette was just okay. Herbs were the main seasoning but it didn't feel like enough imo. Definitely more of a takeout place. The seating is very minimal, a small covered patio area with a few tables. There were also some benches, but the street is very busy so it's not that pleasant to eat at. You can tell they put a lot of passion and care to their food. I normally get their omelette. The eggs are perfectly cooked. Fluffy, soft and a little wet. Sometimes I'd like to add ham, a side of cornichon, and jam. The baguette they use is made fresh each morning and perfectly baked. Don't get me started with their pastries. Their croissants are amazing. I've brought a bunch of friends to Maison and they say it's the best they've ever had. Go check them out. It's a small outdoor space, the food can take a little bit of waiting but if you order online, you'll save some time. They have a few chairs and tables to sit on but I like to take it to go and eat at a nearby park. The owner, Daniel and his staff are friendly. read more

Jambon!! A bread, thick spread of butter w/thinly sliced ham and pickles. Seems so simple, yet so good. This place made it just right. I do prefer a softer bread tho. I am telling you...if you're going to eat anything that you're spreading butter on, you need to make sure you put a thick layer of butter. It just tastes so much better. The pink praline latte w/oat milk was lovely. It was well balanced. Not overly creamy and not too sweet. Note: Never leave this type of sandwich overnight. I finished half and placed the other half in the fridge. It became really hard. The pickles that I didn't take out made the ham, butter, and bread sour. Eat it all or share it. There was a small wait on a Sunday morning especially since the sandwiches are made fresh. The baguette has a nice crunch, the meat slices are fresh, the butter adds a nice bite and creaminess, and the cornichons added a nice crunch and saltiness. Overall, I think it was a good sandwich but does lack a bit more. I think if you're looking for a very simple sandwich where each ingredient shines, this is it but it depends on which sandwich you chose given the different meats. read more

simple, delicious sandwiches. tried the jambon beurre, daniel's favorite, and bresaola. i could eat their beurre sandwiches every day. i wasn't a huge fan of parisian food when i visited, but i do remember their bread, cheese, and beurre being immaculate. maison is probably the closest i've found serving those foods here in LA. the beurre in the sandwiches is soft in texture and taste. daniel's favorite just switches out the jambon for prosciuotto. tastes are subtle and delicate here. love the cornichons even though i generally don't like pickles in my sandwiches. bread is perfectly hard (but not overly) and quality. while i was waiting, someone came by to ask if they sold their bread separately, i guess some people find it that good (they don't sell their bread separately though). the prosciutto and jambon were also high quality. bresaola had a little more unique flavors and brighter if you want something outside of the jambon beurre flavor profile. ice coffee was decent. i'll definitely try the omelet sandwich next time. people seem to also love their pastries as well, but they were already sold out when i went. sandwiches took about 15 minutes to prepare late afternoon on the weekend. they do run out of sandwiches so call in or go in early enough. service was efficient, nice, and brought out the orders to customers. there's a little covered outdoor patio area for those who want to dine in. street parking only. gem. will be back. update: the omelet sandwich is delicious as well. perfectly scrambled fluffy egg complemented by that great bread. read more

I really like this style of French style baguettes since the ones at Dominque Ansel are my favorite. Unfortunately DA is longer in LA, I was searching for alternative. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one that is comparable. I saw this place pop up on Instagram and was really curious and it looks like it was comparable to DA. They were able to call in our order so we can pick up I know this location has really bad parking so I wanted to make sure I could just get there and pick up the sandwiches. I was really excited to try them. We got Two of their most popular sandwiches. Pretty easy through the counter. We got home and opened our package. The sandwiches look OK but the presentation was not that great. It looked like they just stuffed the meat into the sandwiches and really didn't have any present at all. The sandwiches tasted OK and not very memorable we probably won't be coming back. read more

Let me start off by saying that the baguette is very crispy, good stuff. The omelette sandwich was messy. You bit into it and the omelette would squeeze out...had to chase the omelette. But it was tasty. I would have ratter have the omelette and baguette separate and eat it with fork. Jambon Beurre, the ham sandwich: I was not impressed. Seemed like store bought deli ham with butter and baguette. There is limited seating and you are literally on Melrose so the noise from traffic is inevitable. Went yesterday (Monday). - FAVORITES - JAMBON BEURRE The standard of all French sandwiches. Highly recommend if you ever crave a good French sandwich! Absolutely delicious! Thinly sliced Parisian-style ham, lots of French butter, sliced cornichons and lightly sprinkled black pepper. HALF DANIEL'S FAVORITE Half sandwich. Generous slices of proscuitto di parma, sliced cornichons and a thick coating of creamy French butter slathered on baguette. This was a dream! So delicious! This one was my favorite! HAM & CHEESE CROISSANT Good ham and cheese filling. It definitely had those good flavors that you expect from a ham & cheese croissant. The Parisian style ham was delicious. The Comté cheese was good. Nice, crispy, flakiness too. I would get this again. Heat up in the toaster oven! CROISSANT Buttery and crispy. Not overly crunchy either. My biggest surprise was how fluffy it was inside too! Not dried out! Some bad ones are dry inside even on the day of purchase. But this one was really good! Really enjoyed the regular croissant over all the other flavors. This would be enjoyable with a simple tea or coffee. Really enjoyed this! Best when reheated in toaster oven! - NOT GOOD - OMELETTE SANDWICH A French-style omelette with Comté cheese on baguette. Don't get me wrong, the omelette was delicious, but bread was tough to eat! Prefer omelette to be served separately from the bread. Maison Matho's biggest minus with their sandwiches is their baguette. Bread was too chewy. I love Vietnamese-style French baguettes and if they did something a bit more closer to it without breaking any rules to making French bread, I would be happy. Filling was minimal. Nothing good to write about. Did not enjoy these brioche buns. Not good. MELROSE FOG At first sip, it tasted bland. It was a hint of something floral and Earl Grey, a little bit of almond flavor, but barely any flavor overall. Just a watered down, cold drink. Ice was melting quickly. Tasted only the orange blossom flavor at the end. LOCATION / PARKING / SEATING / On Melrose + Harvard Find the orange sign! Not easy to find. It's a tiny bakery café. It is basically on the sidewalk. So you have to awkwardly wait for your order on the sidewalk. Also, if you take a few steps back, cars are passing through. The location is at an odd neighborhood surrounded by old houses with zero charm. Has no indoor seating. You place your order online or from the window outside. A tiny bar seating with two barstools right in front of the order and pick-up window. There are also two small round tables in front of a bench at the side of the bakery café. I saw people sitting and eating there so casually, as if it was no big deal. Parking is all street parking and hard to find. CUSTOMER SERVICE / WAIT TIME / ORDERS ONLINE You have the option to order online and choose a  pick-up time, so I did just that. My order was large, so there was a long wait. Customer service was decent. No attitude or rudeness. Everyone was nice. Just wish the wait time wasn't so long. Inspite of everything said, I do wish to come back and try other pastries that weren't available that day. And the Jamon Beurre and Daniel's Favorite is worth returning for! read more

Ehhh I wasn't super impressed by this place. I think I had way higher expectations purely based on the photos. The sandwich's are ok but definitely not great, the ratio of meat to bread is kind of crazy. But what really got me is that most of these sandwiches are just butter and meat! And if you want anything else like cheese for example it's an extra almost $5! I had to pay an extra $2 for more cornichons to break up the sandwich because I barely got any as you can see in the photo. The sandwiches themselves are already extremely overpriced, where they're practically charging the price for a full sandwich for only half. The service also wasn't great, seemed pretty pretentious and like they didn't wanna be there. Lastly, this place is just a little stand. There's no indoor seating and only a couple outdoor tables and chairs. So for the price I'd definitely go somewhere else. read more

I ordered the jambon beurre sandwich, an iced latte, a plain croissant, a chocolate croissant, and an almond croissant. All of them were très magnifique! Expect a bit of a wait. I admit- I didn't initially chose to come to Matho out of my own free will. It was new year's week, not much was open and S was craving a sandwich. I was placated by the fact that the chef was parisian and there would be pastries. We got the jambon beurre and daniel's favorite. As a person who's not really into sandwiches, I will admit that I liked that it was not greasy/falling apart. The butter actually helps tamper down the saltiness of the sandwich meats. Still not a big fan of pickles. Now, for someone who LOVES sandwiches, S couldn't stop raving about it. Literally said he would go again whenever he had time despite the terrible parking situation in the area. What really sold me on Matho was the Melrose Fog. OMG - amazing. I can't describe it - floral and lemony and like a dream. Absolutely loved. Next time, I think I may be a bigger fan of the omelet sandwich. Don't want to gatekeep, but holy moly was this was incredible. We had the Daniel's favorite (proscuitto with a whole lot of butter on the freshest of baguette), which was revolutionary. We also tried the Jambon Buerre, which turned out to be the star! Typically don't love this kind of ham, but the way they had so finely sliced it really made the taste stand out, and the butter, OH, the butter, really seals the deal. Pastries were also fantastic - cannot wait to come back and try another. The coffee drinks were also expertly made, truly enjoyed my fancy latte with tropical fruit infusion. Delicious! I tried their omelette sandwich which essentially is a buttery french omelette topped with chives and served in a fresh baguette. Their vegan kouign amann is divine. Despite it being vegan, the layers of pastry and sweet and savory notes were well-balanced. I ordered online for pick-up which was approximately a 20-minute wait on a weekend morning. I saw they had a vegan Kouign-amann here and knew this was a must. I have passed by this little place many times and finally decided to check out the menu online. There wasn't a line to it was the perfect time to order my brunch. The half spaghetti squash sandwich was filling and big enough. It was filled with so many textures and flavors on the awesome bread. They didn't have the pasty basket out so I asked the cashier and she brought out a heavenly assortment of things to choose from. I knew i already came for the vegan Kouign-amann so I was set on that. The top looked burned but it wasn't at all. It was flaky and the middle was soft and delicious. The pink praline latte was all full of flavor. After I ordered the sandwich was prepared from scratch and the chefs in the tiny kitchen all wear the official hats and uniforms. This is definitely an authentic place and I need to try everything in the pastry basket. Super dainty walk-up counter shop on Melrose Ave. Nice to stop by to pick up coffee, pastries, and sandwiches on the go! They do have small outdoor seats but I would suggest to get takeout and go on a picnic! Friendly service as well. There tends to be a line on weekends and the food takes quite a bit of time so be prepared! The sandwiches were impeccable. The butter, ham, pickles, and the bread were just top-notch. Although the bread was a bit hard go break into it is super duper fresh, cruncy, and delicious. I swear I could just munch on their butter whole - so smooth, silky, and so flavorful. Be aware, the two have very similar taste so might opt for a different two next time but regardless loved them both. I didn't love their Praline pastry as much so might skip on that next time. I feel like I had driven by this place a few times but never really made a solid enough note to self to go check it out or look it up. Then a friend, deeply passionate about food & bev (she owns a legendary noodle place in the South Bay) asked me to meet here there. When I landed, she had already eaten (we'd discussed this-she was hungry) but she'd saved half of a sandwich for me. It was the omelette sandwich and she'd added some legit jambon to the experience and half was enough -- omelette perfect and fluffy, ham light, salty and savory. And the baguette was textured, strong enough to hold up to the moisture inside, welcoming enough to sink your teeth into repeatedly without concern for the roof of your mouth. We hung out with Chef Daniel afterwards. I had no idea that they baked their own baguettes. Amazing. No wonder they were so good. My friend grabbed a pain au chocolat (I wasn't offered half but it's okay) and we were on our way to our next stop, a gallery. The storefront is joyfully painted, parking was easy, and there is a small but cozy sitting area off to the side. There is a lot more menu to explore and I plan to do it. Kudos to Chef Daniel and team for creating a new gem. Sandwich culture is thriving in LA, and Maison Matho is surely contributing to the conversation. read more

I've never busted a b so fast except when I was all into the Pokémon catching craze. Driving down Melrose I saw bright colorful colors in the corner of my eye that caught my attention. All I have to say is French butter hits differently. There is not a better couple than a French baguette and French butter except for me and Frank lol j/k! I got the Jambon Beurre (ham sandwich) and damn it was love at first bite. They don't skimp on anything especially the butter. I added comte cheese and it makes a world of difference taste wise. This sandwich is life changing, trust me. It's packed with flavor and huge! The pink praline latte was definitely pretty but wasn't my cup of tea. It had a unique flavor combo that didn't mesh well with my tastebuds. I still drank it though but wouldn't get it again. They also have daily baked goods.
