Malabar fish curry drenched in oil.
    Lovejit K.

I have been going to this place after Red Chillies in Milpitas closed their restaurant and now only does catering. This place is a hit or miss but today I was super disappointed hence this review. I go for my staples Malabar fish curry and Beef fry with appam. Beef fry was super bland as if they forget to put any spices in it. The worst was the malabar fish curry was DRENCHED in oil. see pic below Will not be going here for a while now.

We gave this place a try as our go-to place for Kerala food--red chillies closed. We ordered online, although the pick-up time that their website showed was 30 minutes before the restaurant opened. Needless to say, we had to wait 30 minutes after our scheduled pick-up time because their website was buggy and they took orders even during their off-hours. Thankfully, the food was ready within 15 minutes after the restaurant opened. We ordered fish cutlets, kappa, mango fish curry, and beef roast. The food was good, and the portion size was good as well. I really liked the fish curry. I'm not sure if it's worth the drive, though.

My best friend and I visited Malabar Coast today for dinner and I was absolutely mind blown by how flavourful and yummy the food tasted. My first time having Kerala food and my bestie (he's from Kerala) ordered some dishes for me to try. He ordered 2 curries Chicken Varutharachatu (Spicy chicken curry cooked to perfection with curry leaves and red chilli, tasted little similar to chettinadu chicken curry with Kerala flavors) CHEMMEEEN MANGA CURRY ( shrimp curry with notes of raw mango, tamarind cooked in coconut oil) , Iddiappam( steamed rice cakes like vermicelli) and parota. The food was exceptionally yummy and I absolutely loved my first Kerala food experience. The iddiappam and shrimp curry was a match made in heaven. Same goes to chicken curry and parota. Will visit again to try out more dishes.

Haven't been more disappointed with a restaurant in recent memory. The menu looked exciting with a lot of unique options and we ordered a lot of varieties - fish cutlets, chicken 65, talasery chicken biryani, kappa, parotta, idiyappam, meen vatichathu. Chicken 65- the only decent dish of the evening, not exceptional but nothing much to complain about. Fish cutlets- under seasoned with a strong smell of fish. Idiyappam- not freshly prepared, they were hard set due to sitting around for some time. Kappa- made with yucca root, there were several large chunks of the intact yucca root. Porotta- flaky but very stiff without much malleability. Meen vatichathu- fish curry with very strong flavor of tamarind. I personally didn't like it. Talasery chicken biryani- the dish came with rice mixed with a very oily chicken gravy as the bottom with some other rice on top. There was a boiled egg as well. The texture of the rice was hard, it was not uncooked but it's the state the rice gets rendered to when refrigerated. The temperature of the dish was inconsistent, parts of it were warm and parts of it were room temperature with the hard rice. The boiled egg was fridge cold. We couldn't eat the dish. I hate wasting food and tend to pack leftovers but this was something I could barely eat or pack to take home. I personally wanted to provide feedback to the owner so I requested a call back as he was not at the restaurant. He promptly called me and spoke to to me for 10 mins, took all the feedback constructively and apologized for my experience. I hope they improve and take the feedback in the right stride.

    Talassery Biryani - Chicken

Service = Ok Ambience = Bad ( not clean) Food = Below average. Non of the item was fresh. Chili chicken was certainly not fresh same as the Beef Fry. It may because we went on a weekday. Not worth the money and time.

Ordered Fish Fry, explicitly had mentioned to keep it mild. Even picked up the order and open it, it had the spicy masala used. Asked the cashier and his meak response was that is how we make it, when asked you should have called and informed so I can cancel the order the response was the chef did not see the message that came with order. Now the preparation, it was shoddy, the spices applied only to some area and underprepared/cooked. Very poor experience with food and service

Really good flavors and friendly staff. I got the idiyappam, paneer makhani, paratha, and gobi manchurian. They were all very good. Malabar Coast is in the top quartile of Indian restaurants in the area for sure. The only nit is that the quantity of the idiyappams was tiny and it was barely there.

It's clean inside and plenty of natural lighting. Since we were one of two parties inside, the service was quick. I ordered the chicken tikka wrap, as I was feeling something handheld. The chicken tikka was perfectly seasoned, with a good kick of spiciness. I will say, the oil did seep through the naan wrap, so it was definitely a bit messy to eat. But the flavor was so good that it was worth it. AND, the wrap was only $14. In this economy? The prices were really reasonable. Everything was just wonderful, and the food alone gets a solid five stars from me. Complex flavors, just the right amount of heat. Papadum, tandoori salmon, lamb saag, and gajar halwa were outstanding. The staff, unfortunately, looked inexperienced and standoffish. We came in at an off-peak time. The place was nearly empty, so it was not like they had their hands full. As we were going through the meal, not a single dirty plate was taken away from our table. When we finished dessert, all the used dishes from the appetizer and main course were still on the table. That was so odd. It was rather hard to get the attention of the servers. At one point, a server who had brought our dishes before was standing in the back of the room and looking straight at me. I tried to summon him first by making eye contact, then by a meek hand wave, but he redirected his look a little away from me and just continued standing there. We were brought the wrong dessert and realized that only after we started eating, but decided it would be too much hassle to get it replaced. We live very close by and will likely come back for takeout, but not for dine-in.

For a Saturday morning, the energy was calm -- a good sign for a small spot that could easily get overwhelmed. The waitress set the tone early. Warm, unhurried, she asked how we had heard about the place before taking the order -- the kind of question a restaurant only asks when it is still building its crowd and actually wants to know the answer. Filter coffee arrived without delay, hot, no shortcuts. The upma and mini tiffin combo followed. Portions were generous and the food arrived warm. But dish after dish played it safe right up to the edge of forgettable. The upma had correct texture with none of the assertiveness that makes a good upma worth finishing slowly. The sambar leaned thin. The chutneys were there, present and accounted for, doing the minimum. Everything assembled correctly, nothing bold enough to make you look up from the table. Meenakshi Bhavan gets enough right on a weekend morning to be worth knowing about -- clean space, genuinely warm service, honest portions. The waitress clearly takes pride in the hospitality side of things. The kitchen needs to match that energy with a firmer hand on the seasoning. Good enough for a familiar weekend breakfast. Not yet good enough to become a habit. The paintings on the walls that were Indian and Tamilnadu related was great, but the other art work seemed out of place, not sure what the thought process there was with the management. Things where this could improve: Coffee taste can improve (may be sourcing from a different coffee vendor may help, seemed like a standard Narassu's powder from a grocery shop near by that probably was at least a few months old) Chutneys need a certain kick and that was definitely missing. Cleanliness can be improved for sure.

For the mains, the dal was good, and I especially enjoyed the saag paneer. We also tried the white butter chicken. First off, the delivery was a smooth process, dot on time and packaged with such precision. Ankush, who runs the show at Delhicacies came to do the honors and as well left detailed instruction on how to go about preparing one of the starter dishes that we had ordered (Bhalle Papdi chaat that is). The menu we chose included Bhalle Paapdi Chaat, Cocktail Samosas, Paneer Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, Baingan Bharta, accompanied by Roomali Roti and Lacchay Pyaaz as a side salad. The Bhalle Paapdi Chaat was an instant crowd-pleaser, with the perfect balance of crispy papdi, fresh bhalle, cool sweet yogurt, tangy tamarind along with green sauces, a secret masala powder and a garnish of beetroot , pomegranate and cilantro. All of these were packed separately and instructions were provided (step by step) to prepare the end result which tasted out of the world good. It was refreshing yet packed with flavors that kept everyone asking for seconds. The Cocktail Samosas were golden, crisp, and filled with a spiced potato mixture that made them an ideal finger food--perfectly bite-sized and not greasy at all. For the main course, the Paneer Tikka Masala (PTM) stole the show with its rich, velvety sauce that coated the tender paneer in just the right amount of spice. The flavors were balanced yet bold, making it a standout dish. The earthy flavor in the paneer made it finger licking good and definitely was the biggest hit of the evening. The Chana Masala had the perfect texture--soft chickpeas simmered in a well-spiced gravy that had just the right amount of heat and tang. Cubes of paneer in there definitely made it a good overall combination and complemented with the PTM. The smoky and flavorful Baingan Bharta added an earthy depth to the meal as well. The eggplant was roasted beautifully, bringing out its natural flavors, which paired wonderfully with the Romali Roti. The roti was soft, thin, and warm, making it the ideal vehicle to soak up the gravies. We did end up heating the rotis in our microwave oven for about 10-15 seconds in batches and they remained perfect in their texture and taste. The Lacchay Pyaaz--freshly sliced onions with a sprinkle of masala--added a crunchy, refreshing bite to balance the richness of the other dishes. Overall, Delhicacies delivered an out of the world authentic North Indian culinary experience with each dish tasting as though it was prepared with care and precision. The food was flavorful, perfectly spiced, and served fresh. Our guests were impressed, and we couldn't have been happier with the quality of food and service of delivery.
