This is a continuation of our dinner quest from star udupi. We went in the restaurant and was given a menu, but was told items which has check mark only available. Was disappointed as we are vegetarian, and very few were there. In particular we wanted to order Rumali roti. Later they explained they were short staffed so they are having a short menu. We ordered vegetable with coconut curry, appam and parotaa. Curry needed little salt but otherwise it tasted good, even though it had large chunks of potatoes, little smaller would have been better. But still the looks like potatoes were stewed in the gravy, so had good taste to it. Appam was ok. Parotaa is freshly made and we all liked it, then we want to order more but cook just left as kitchen was already closed, but nevertheless, they got the cook back and we ordered more parotaa and chapatis. Chapatis were good too. 5 stars for the service and hospitality, hope they keep that part intact. As it has became a rarity, that too in Indian restaurants. Kudos just for that. read more

The customer service is horrible the person at the counter is a bad mannered person and they take a long time to give you your order.

We were a party of 5 and had the following items from the menu: * Beef fry: very tasty peppery and the meat inside was tender. * Vegetable stew: excellent, aromatic and again very tasty * Chapathi: soft, large and surprisingly very little oil or butter. * chicken and veg biriyani: this was the best part. Among the best biriyanis we have tried in the Bay Area. The service is friendly and helpful. We talked to them a bit and they are just getting on their feet. The only thing was that the menu was limited as they hadn't gone through their "grand opening" yet - next week. If they maintain this quality of food we are sure to be regulars. read more

This is my first ever yelp review. I have finally found an authentic kerala restaurant. The food is delicious and reminds me of home. I had the mutton biriyani( till their grand opening not all menu items are available). The biriyani was amazing, presented with pappadam, raita and lime pickle, and tasted just like what we get back in Kerala. I cant wait to try the rest of the menu items! I got reminded of my favorite childhood biryani place the very first time i had biryani here. They are clean, good at service and the quiet welcoming in terms of the food. Still under a "soft opening" which here essentially means we will microwave you mediocre "Malabar" biriyani that still manages to take 20 minutes. They are clearly not ready to open yet, as there appears to be no actual kitchen. The effort comes off as a money grab since they already have overhead and rent to pay so they have attempted to open in order to recoup some funds while waiting to be fully prepared. Strangely while they have put effort into painting, purchasing newish tables, chairs and flatware they leave the cashier/host table covered in glue from some poster the previous owners had attached. The current management team also leaves the pavam bus boy to interact with annoyed customers as they stay out of sight in the back room. You have one chance to make a good first impression and the owners should have waited till they were actually prepared before opening. I'm cannot think of a single reason but the desire, the promise of Malabar food to bring me back. read more

Ordered beef cutlet for appetizers. 3 pieces with onion salad was good enough for 2 adults. Being a cutlet enthusiast i can enjoy any type of cutlet. These cutlets took me back to my memories in kerala. We ordered chicken biriyani, porotta and beef ularthu for main course and kulukki sarbarth for me and coffee for my wife. Biriyani is a decent one. One of the authentic taste for malabar biriyani in bay area. Better than red chillies biriyani. The egg in biriyani is always an attraction for me. Porotta was medium size. I felt it was a little dry. I have eaten better porottas in bay area. Beef ularthu was with lot of gravy. When we asked they said they had a mistake and it was beef roast instead of beef ularthu and they fixed it by making it dry. Apologized for the mistake. Taste wise it was good. But i felt it could have been better and was too much masala.My son is a big fan of porotta and beef and he dint finish as felt too spicy. Spicy level was ok for us but may not be for kids. Quantity wise both biriyani and beef ularthu were good. We ordered a ghee rice also to try with beef and i was expecting the same jeera rice which we had with biriyani. But ghee rice was long rice and prepared after we ordered ,with caramelised onions and ghee. Taste wise it was good. Quantity wise also. Disappoinment was kulikki sarbath. The essence used felt too artificial and dint feel any spice from green chillies. Coffee was good. Overall taste wise its highly recommended that you you try this place. Service was decent. Ambience was average. Will definitely go back to try other dishes. Hopefully they can maintain the consistency. I was excited to know that a new malayali restaurant had opened in the bay area. We had lunch today and I absolutely loved the food. We ordered the Malabar Mutton biriyani, Beef fry, Appam, Veg Stew and Fish cutlet. The biriyani rice was perfect and the mutton was well cooked. The fish cutlet was similar to homemade cutlet. The best thing was the beef fry. The meat was fresh and cooked to perfection. I finished off my meal with a tea. The whole experience felt like an afternoon trip to Kerala. :) read more

This is the second time that I have been here. Both times were for dinner during the weekdays. It was not very busy on both occasions. First visit was about 2 weeks before the grand opening. Service: Has improved significantly. First order was received within 10 minutes. The owner is very friendly. He is very keen and receptive to feedback. Food: I think this is the only strictly Kerala cuisine in the area (The next closest one being in Milpitas Red Chillies). Food is delicious and nostalgic. The refreshing taste of coconut oil and fresh curry leaves are in almost every morsel, whether it be appetizer or entree. At the same time, the food is not dripping oil. For instance, the vegetable pakoras are perfectly crisp and crunchy but not oily. It is also definitely worth the prize. 5 parathas, 1 appam, and 3 entree's cost us about 45USD. I used to frequent this restaurant before Covid-19 and the food quality was really good. During Covid time, the quality went down and we stopped going there, after couple of bad experiences. Recently tried this place again expecting not so great food but to my surprise, they had regained the lost trust. Food tasted good, same as before Covid time. They have bounced back. Authentic Kerala Cuisine!!! We had been to Malabar Coast a few times. Every time, we are treated with delicious, mouth watering food. Mutton and Chicken Biriyani tastes home made. Kerala's signature and savory dish Paratha and beef fry takes you back home. The Kappa and the salmon curry cannot be missed. Fish items like Prawns, Anchovies and Karimeen pollichathu should certainly be tried. The Appam and the stew was amazing. Top it off with Kulukki Sarbath or Kerala Chai.
