The food and atmosphere are excellent. But, when I got my bill I realized they'd charged me for an extra Prosecco and another tables beer tab which turned out to be an additional $55. When I pointed it out the bill was brought down from around $225 to around $168. That's a big difference, and it shouldn't happen. read more

What a disappointment. We went with a party of 6 with a reservation for 7:30p on a Monday night. Upon arrival just before 7:30, we were met by the hostess who brusquely said "Five minutes"; no other greeting or pleasantries. It turned out to be 20 minutes. Five of our entrees were delivered to the table together. It took us a good 7 minutes to get the attention of a waiter to inform him that we were still missing an entree. When it was finally delivered, there was no apology or acknowledgement of the oversight. The food itself would have been better if not so heavily salted. What was really frustrating was that the bill included an automatic 20% tip for parties of 6 or more. I would not have minded this had the service been good, but it definitely was not. read more

TLDR: Solid Italian food for a reasonable price. FOOD: I shared the Burrata with prosciutto and the calamari as appetizers. The Burrata was delicious, but can you really go wrong with burrata, arugula, and prosciutto? I think not! The calamari was different than normal calamari appetizers I normally have, which are often breaded and deep fried. This one was grilled and in larger pieces on top of a salad with capers. I'm honestly not a big fan of capers, but overall I thought the dish was pretty good. For our mains, we shared the spaghetti with Porchini mushrooms, which was a major yum, and the pizza with broccoli rabe and sausage. I was pretty impressed by both of the main dishes, would recommend both! The pizza had a really good texture of the bread. And the mushroom porcinis had strong umami. Those also came with a whole cup of Parmesan on the side -- I genuinely loved that I could serve myself (no lie there have def been times I've wanted people to keep going on that Parmesan but then it gets awkward with how much cheese I'm adding and how long they are standing there grading cheese...) SERVICE: Great! No complaints -- they didn't rush us out which I appreciated. I feel like this is a sign of solid, next level service. AMBIANCE: We sat outdoors in their outdoor heated space. I was a tad worried, considering it is early March and it was only a high in the 40s that day, but the heater in there made it quite toasty. Cute little outdoor structure -- did not need to wear my down jacket as I ate. RESERVATIONS: Recommended. I got one for 5:30 pm on a Friday when I booked the night before. More normal times were taken, but my companion had a train to catch at 8pm anyway so it worked great. OVERALL: Great! Will be back. read more

Came here on a date, and we had reservations that we confirmed over the phone for 9:00 pm on a Saturday night. The reservations were for indoors (the outdoor set up needs work and it was under 30 degrees outside). We arrive at the restaurant and I was struck by the overall energy and ambiance of the place. Brick walls, dark interior, candle lit tables. Very cute, cozy, rustic. I was excited to be seated and experience what all the hype was about, but it took 20 mins for us to be greeted by a host. Then, they sat us outside -- we were lucky to move back in when there were two seats available at the bar. The waitress behind the bar was extremely friendly, attentive and warm. The food, however, took about 30-45 mins to arrive...and unfortunately, it was far from the best Italian I've had in the city. Butternut squash soup - skip this. Bland, tastes like blended and unseasoned cauliflower. Arugula and grapefruit salad with hazelnuts - really enjoyed this one, minus the several grapefruit seeds that were left behind in the mix. Pesto rigatoni - not bad. Cooked Al dente, pesto tasted fresh, but missing something. Gnocchi - served cold. Underwhelming. Tiramisu - also underwhelming -- lacked the espresso kick. Everything we had was amazing here. They rminded me of food in Europe that it's more about it's freshness and its own flavor. The seasoning are very light and simple, just purely the ingredients. The Polenta Gorgonzola was delicious and I've actually never had it made like this. Loved it and kinda like the turnip cake of western version. The Calamari Salad was wow. Begging for Malaparte's new chef to bring back the old recipes this was our favorite hidden gem - perfect cozy place to enjoy a bottle of wine and delicious homemade Italian dishes. Coming to dine at Malaparte was truly meant to be, considering that Halibut was one of the featured food specials. It was phenomenal and perfectly complimented by delicious asparagus and roasted carrots. Our dining party also enjoyed delicious grilled salmon and pastas. All of their appetizers looked, smelled, and sounded amazing, but I had the seared tuna with avocado salad. It was a solid 10/10. The sesame dressing avocado, and tuna with lemon combination was perfection. For mains I got the almond pesto rigatoni and the mushroom spaghetti. Both were amazing. We were delighted after we saw the chairs outside that it was the restaurant we ate at at least 3 years ago and wanted to return but could not remember where we were. Initially, they didn't know how long the way was since there was a lot of reservations, but got lucky since someone canceled after 5 minutes. I went here with a friend and it's such a cute dinner spot! The place had a nice ambiance and the food was great too. They give free bread to start with a bunch of olive oil, which was perfect to go with our burrata (which was on the specials menu). The spaghetti ai porcini was absolutely delicious! We arrived early and were able to sit in the heated outdoor dining area while we waited until 5pm (they were able to accommodate the last minute change, which was great, but they don't start serving until 5). I ordered the pear Gorgonzola special salad and it was fresh, big but not too big for an appetizer, and well dressed. My friend ordered the polenta. The food came pretty quickly - we hadn't even finished the delicious bread (focaccia and one other). We had papardelle ragu and pesto rigatoni for mains and ordered their day's special Cabernet (bottle, $75 - good, but a bit disappointing). The papardelle dish was very good but the ragu wasn't my favorite approach - a bit acidic. All in all it came to about $80 each before tip. The hostess was nasty upon arrival and when we asked if there was room at the bar she said she would ask a manager, when he came over, he yelled in our face and told us we had already been told once there were no seating. we had been in the restaurant for 30 seconds. Had gnocchi for my entree and it was the perfect portion and was delicious! Very friendly staff. Host and servers were really nice and attentive. Good location and cute interior.
