My experience here was absolutely awful. I ordered the crabcake sandwich and was appalled that it was made with artificial KRAB. For seven dollars i expect REAL crab meat in a crabcake. The "crab" cake was deep fried solid on the outside and uncooked in the middle, and honestly tasted more like a vomit falafel. I tried to choke down as much as possible as my bf enjoyed his grilled skewers, but couldnt finish more than half. I was disappointed, and angry that people would think a krabcake sandwich would be acceptable. One star (zero if it were possible). read more

Being from a landlocked state, I can't be near the ocean without wanting to eat nothing but fresh seafood. Malibu seriously had the best menu ever for a girl like me, particularly because most of the other seafood places nearby were $25+ per meal, and here we were averaging $9/meal. I'm always on the hunt for the best fish taco. I'd give Malibu fish grill a 6/10. I ordered a crispy cod taco on a corn tortilla and guacamole with chips. I went on a Tuesday so the tacos were $2 and the guac was $1, a steal! The fish was yummy and the Baja sauce was also good. They put cotija cheese on the tacos which is a nice touch. Another good thing about this place is their happy hour, which starts at 3. I went at 2:30 and still got a bottle of corona for $3 which I thought was a great price as well. Have come here a few times and it has been consistently good. I always get a rice bowl with either salmon or tuna on top. It's huge and delicious. They recently added brown rice to the menu which can be substituted for the pilaf. I don't know what kind of pita bread they use, but it's different than any other I've had and is absolutely delicious. The hummus is good and not served with a giant pool of oil on top (bonus points!). And, make sure to get a cookie for dessert. They are home-made, soft and delicious! Minus 1 point because the parking lot is tiny (only fits about 8 cars) and service is only good if you don't actually need anything. read more

Came here after a vigorous Yelp search for seafood and couldn't decide what to eat. I stumbled upon their business since it had 4 stars and a decent amount of reviews. I was mainly craving fried calamari and saw a picture of it so we decided to try it out. The calamari was crispy indeed, but flavorless and slightly chewy. I mean, I know calamari can be chewy but the fact that it was flavorless AND chewy made me upset. Also, the shrimp taco (crispy/fried) were A-OK and nothing spectacular. I definitely recommend the grilled shrimp taco over the fried one. Also, we ordered a side of fries and they were just eh. Just fries. Probably won't be back soon. Oh and I forgot to mention that they lost the ticket to my boyfriend's order and he went 25 mins without food. I had realized that it was a while and told him to go check on it. Compared to the Malibu Fish Grill in El Segundo, this one is not up to par. I've been here twice now, both with sub par experiences. I didn't Yelp the first time, thinking it was an off night. But now twice in a row I have to. So today, I ordered the seared ahi tuna with miso glaze, grilled vegetables, and brown rice. The worst slice of ahi I've ever had. It was loaded with gristle (yes, tuna also has gristle) which made a good quarter inedible. The veggies were a meager portion and highly overcooked. Likewise with the brown rice - way overcooked but a huge portion (to make up for the lack of veggies?). Also comes with pita, which is hard to mess up. While I order this same meal over and over, this experience is typical of this Malibu Fish Grill and not others. Service was OK. It took a while to receive our two meals (25 minutes) - it was the beginning of dinner so not crowded (only one other person in there) - maybe it was shift change? The iced tea is brewed and you get a choice of unsweetened or green. And all soft drinks and iced tea are help yourself with refills. Parking is around back. Tight parking lot but it does hold a lot of cars. I don't think I'll be back to this location but I will continue to enjoy the other locations. read more

The tacos here are really good. I love coming here on Tuesdays for Taco Tuesday's. The prices are $2 and $3 for the street tacos but a little bigger. I get it with flower to hold me up. Anyway I really enjoy coming here for a bite or even dinner. There's no waiter service which is fine by me. There's cool Hawaiian/ rock music in the background which is befitting for the setting. I used to love this place. Yesterday, I picked up some food for my husband and me as a treat. It was only our third time bringing home ANY restaurant food since the pandemic shelter in place order. I was very disappointed! I ordered trout and it was not fresh at all - really smelled! In addition, they did not give me any pita bread which used to come with the trout plate. Also, when I asked for more tartar sauce from the cashier she said they are limiting how much you can have now. It used to be unlimited and complimentary at their condiment bar. Their rice pilaf was definitely entirely different (for the worse) now also. I am sincerely hoping that these changes are just temporary. Good food, great prices - I would definitely go again. I tried Malibu Fish Grill for the first time last night. $19 for dinner for two served on real plates - yes please! I ordered the grilled basa with cajun seasoning (medium rare, which just meant not overcooked) and grilled vegetables and garden salad. The fish was tender and fresh while remaining moist. The seasoning was sinus clearing, which I love. The grilled vegetables (carrots, zucchini and broccoli) were not overcooked and not oversalted - very tasty. The garden salad was simple but a pleasant accompaniment. It was so tasty that I used the pita to sop up the cajun spiced butter left on my plate by my fish. Not a fancy place (casual dining, order at the counter, screw top wine), but it is an excellent, healthy, fast, cheap alternative to other establishments like this. FYI: The staff is very nice. I haven't really asked her why she always suggests eating here, but these are my theories: 1. Proximity. I live one mile from this place. 2. Price. Dinner for the two of us usually will run around twenty bucks. 3. There isn't a third reason I could think of, but I feel bad about starting a list unless I can get three pieces of information out there. Don't get me wrong. I don't hate the food here. Got a coupon in the mail for Malibu Fish grill in Redondo, so we decided to try it for dinner toinght. Very casual atmosphere, felt somewhat like a Wahoo's or a Baja Fresh inside. The choices were all fish (duh) centered, with the fish choices being Ahi, Mahi Mahi, Salmon (which they were out of tonight - darn!), trout, tilapia, halibut and a few others. They would prepare it in quite a few different ways - put it on a salad, sandwich, wrap, skewer or just have it grilled. There were a few different ways to have it prepared like garlic butter or cajun spiced. There was also fried options - calamari, shrimp and fish and chips. I went with the grilled Mahi plate and chose the hummus and grilled zucchini as my two sides. It also came with a pretty hefty portion of this yummy grilled pita. The Mahi was pretty good sized, tender and really good! It felt like a very healthy dinner and came in under $10. I would rather have that than fast food any day. My husband got the crispy combo plate (calamari, fried shrimp and fish and chips) which was also quite good, although not quite as healthy :) The fish and chips were definitely the stand-out for him. We got a lot of food and spent under $20, so it was a great deal and a nice relaxed casual atmosphere. I'm not sure if this is a chain or locally franchised restaurant, but after driving around for awhile, the exterior of the building looked really cool and I figured we'd give it a try. We came in one night for dinner on our way back home to Redondo Beach. First of all, the parking is a little ridiculous and tight and there were certainly some interesting park jobs in the lot. Once you can get in the door, there is no real menu board, but there are several laminated menus and take-out pamphlets readily available. I had the cajun mahi mahi plate with grilled vegetables and french fries. Odd combination, but I really wanted something fried that night. My friend had a fried tilapia (at least I'm pretty sure it was tilapia!) platter that looked and smelled delicious! What's nice is that you can pick your own sides from a wide variety. The food was delivered to our table within 10 minutes. I had a sample of her fish and it tasted awesome. The cajun mahi mahi was a little oily (because of the seasoning mix), but it was extremely delicious and quite fresh. The grilled vegetables were fresh and seasoned with olive oil. The french fries were awesome - crispy and cooked all the way through. There was also pita bread served with each of our meals. If I had ordered hummus, it would have made sense. But, what really turned me off is how the majority of tables were dirty with plates and napkins left from previous patrons. Surely there has to be some type of help to keep the restaurant clean during the dinner hour(s). Also, there was a vat of salsa and a vat of tartar sauce on ice in the service area near the drink fountain that did not look fresh at all. Although my friend swore by their salsa, I am weary of anything mayo-based (that would be tartar sauce) left on ice for extended periods of time. Even the staff walking by the tartar sauce and salsa never looked twice to see if the product looked okay. It just seemed like a bad case of food poisoning waiting to happen and with a 6 hour flight the next morning to the east coast, it was not something I wanted to find out. Overall, it was a great meal and very reasonable. For my platter and a drink, it was $12-something. It would be definitely somewhere I'd recommend for a good seafood dinner with pleasant service. read more

Very similar to California Fish Grill. Inexpensive, pretty decent fish. If you're careful with the sauces, seasonings and dressings, I think it's a pretty healthy meal. I suppose you could say that about a lot of places, but even if you ask them to hold the cheese and special sauce, if you go to McD's, you're still taking about 25 minutes off your life expectancy. My usual is the Mediterranean salad with Mahi Mahi, about $10. It's a large salad with an 8oz (I believe) fillet. You can have the fish prepared butter garlic, lemon oregano, Cajun or as I usually get it, just grilled no seasoning. It comes with lightly toasted pita bread. You'd have to have a pretty big appetite to finish the whole thing. The only negative is the tiny, difficult to maneuver in, parking lot. read more

The fish in the wahoo bowl wasn't the freshest, but the bowl was overall fine. I've tried their fish plates before and enjoyed them. The quality of food at Malibu is unbeatable at any price point. Better than Chart House and costs about a third of the price. I'm a big fish fan and everything I've tried has been phenomenal. Went here for the first time last week. Got the Mahi Mahi wrap and it wasn't bad. It had rice and beans and good flavor to it. The sweet potato fries were really good as well. Definitely Americanized food. Not like traditional Mexican. I had expected it to be more like Rubio's not sure why. I called in the order and it only took them about 10 mins before it was ready. The staff was friendly but there wasn't really anyone else eating in there. Not sure if that means anything There isn't much parking though. read more
