The parking lot holds about 10 cars, and it was overflowing, so I zoomed across 4 lanes of traffic to park at the post office, nearly getting killed in the process. Then I noticed the line of people almost going out the door of this little restaurant, and every table was full. That made me decide to stick around 'cause it must be good. The service? disorganized as hell, almost chaotic. I was wondering how a business could even operate like that when someone in line told me the computers had gone down and the tiny staff was doing everything by hand. Wow. Well done. And they kept their cool through it all. Someone else in line said she has never waited for her food after calling in her order, so tonight was an unusual circumstance for sure. So....after 45 minutes wait for my order of 2 appetizers - breaded shrimp & crab cakes - I rushed home, starving. Worth it? Hell yeah. Melt in your mouth food. On Tuesdays, all tacos are $2. And all beer is $2. Betcha it will be mobbed. I will not be there.......haha........ Seriously, this is a fast food place with a great fish menu: appetizers, entree salads, rice bowls, grilled fish on skewers, pastas, wraps, sandwiches, tacos, kid's meals. And catering. Malibu Fish Grill...Located on the corner of PCH & 190th street, is a very easily spotted eatery but a tough one to park at. This used to be a flower shop and a cell phone store. Since neither of them survived, the fish took over and it has stay popular ever since then. First off.... parking is horrible.... the lot only hold about 7 cars and that particular corner always have cops hiding out to see who is making a wrong turn (a weird left turn) So make sure when you visit, follow the law and drive carefully! Once you are in, the place is clean and bright. You got a nice set of pictures on the types of meals you can get and also a decent outdoor seating where you can somewhat enjoy the air (If you don't mind the car pollution while they are stuck at the light then it's A-OK) Let's focus on the food now... Malibu Fish Grill is very similar to California Fish Grill with the only difference is that they offer more variety and also serves more Mediterranean sides such as hummus and pita bread. But you can expect everything from the typical fish plates, fish sandwiches, fish burritos, and of course, fish tacos! One nice touch is that they do offer skewer plates with beef, chicken and shrimp, so there is at least something for everyone. The flavor of the meal was good every time I had it so I definitely have no compliant on it and will recommend this place to everyone. My El-Cheapo recommendation for anyone who wants a pretty good fish meal.. Get the Basa fish fillet, ask for cajun & Garlic butter, salad, and the rice pilaf (The rice is really really good!) The also ask for some Garlic butter on the side so you can drench the rice with it...... I know I know... how healthy can this be if you are drenching garlic BUTTER on everything? TACO TUESDAY!!! I walked in several weeks ago and smiled ear to ear as soon as I saw the Taco Tuesday sign! :) I didn't have a huge appetite as I only wanted a snack. So, one order of Mahi Mahi taco for 2 bucks (I think) was perfect! I had a choice of flour or corn tortillas - I chose flour. The Mahi Mahi was fresh and the portion was good...what more could I have asked for? ***AMBIENCE*** The restaurant is open and spacious with many tables. It's just a simple, no frills kind of place. You can eat and relax while looking out at the PCH traffic. ***SERVICE*** Friendly. You order at the counter and the food will be delivered to your table. ***PARKING*** Enter the parking lot from Catalina Ave. I hope to try Malibu Fish Grill again in the near future. I better go with a bigger appetite so that I can order more items or even a platter and provide a more useful review :) Overall, I am glad I found a place nearby for affordable seafood. When it first opened, the fish was fresh and the prices good but all of that has changed. The menu has slightly changed and the prices have gone up. Some old items are gone. My fish was tough and falling apart. It seemed frozen not fresh. The coleslaw had to much mayo. It was watery and bitter. The salsa bar also seemed off compared to before. The first time I tried Malibu Fish Grill was in Huntington Beach. This one was not much different. Simple food, done the way you want it. I felt, tho, that the fish was cooked a bit too much. I got salmon. The food was ok. After all, it is a chain restaurant that grills fish. Shouldn't expect too much. Still, the place is packed. I had to ask some people to split the table because there wasn't enough tables. The parking lot is too small to accommodate all the people who come here. I had to circle around the block twice before I got a parking, and it was around dinner time. May be finding street parking is a bit wiser. So ok food. Give the fact that there aren't that many places that specialize in grilled fish so this place is definitely a place to check out if you want grilled fish. Remember, this place is packed. read more

Great if you and your bum friends want to get drunk on cheap wine for $2.25 a glass. Bad if you want decent food or a nice atmosphere. Good if you have a party of 25 because every table will be open. Not good if you want to dip your food in condiments in anything other than a to-go container. Seriously, every condiment comes in a to-go container. I've been here a total of three times now, always for the Taco Tuesday deals. I've only had shrimp tacos because I don't care for fish. Their crispy shrimp tacos just taste way too greasy! I've tried them every time I've been, thinking that maybe they'd be better and they never are. The last time I was here, the cashier was really rude. She took my friend's order and then without acknowledging me, walked away and was gone for several minutes. While waiting, I could tell the guy in line behind me was also wondering, "is she coming back or do I need to get into the other cashier's line?". She finally came back to take my order and no apology was made. I suppose the only reason I'd go back to this place is if whoever I'm eating with really wants to. 3 words: Lent's other savior. 4 star in context, btw, not 4 star compared to all cuisine I've tried of the same variety. It's not fancy, but it was great for no-meat Fridays. I've only had the halibut, mahi and wahoo grilled cajun-style, but they were all excellent in light of it being a fast casual fish place. I'd take here over California Fish Grill, because the sides are significantly better. Love the grilled vegetables. Personally don't touch the fried stuff (or shellfish in general), but a lot of people were chowing down on it during the times I went. Pretty sure they even have meat and chicken options, which might be helpful if you ever end up there with a diner who is scared to eat anything from the ocean. But I'm never willing to take the chance, because the only thing worse than fish if you don't care for it, is poultry or steak that tastes like fish. Now, if only they could do something about their house wine selection . . . but that's not to say their stuff isn't okay enough to enjoy out of a plastic cup while watching the exciting sights of the PCH/Catalina intersection. read more

I go for Throwback Thursdays. I always get the same thing: Caesar salad with salmon and a side of fries. Delicious!!! Sometimes I crave that salad, it's so good! Fresh food, though honestly I can only speak for my salad. It is hard to find a good big Caesar salmon salad these days tho! Fast and mostly friendly service. A solid 3.5 stars. I ate the fried shrimp along with the garlic butter tilapia with grilled veggies, fries and coleslaw. The shrimp were a good size and pretty tasty. The tarter sauce was good. The tilapia was moist, but nothing to rave about. The fries were good/standard. The coleslaw was tasty. The grilled veggies were eh. I wish they cut them into thin strips. They cut the zucchini in wedges. Not my favorite. Overall a decent place, but no where I would rush back to. read more

Came in on Halloween 10/31/2019 in the evening. There were 2 females at the cash register. The shorter female was very rude the entire time, from the beginning to the end. Seared Ahi Tuna was ok and accompanied side of Sweet Potato Fries was really good. Rainbow Trout was bland and tasteless and companied Seasonal vegetables were unusually salty. I could have asked for another more edible vegetables but I really didn't want to deal with the very rude shorter female staff. Malibu often has very nice staff and I was surprise of what happened yesterday. I will not come back again given so many options around at much better price point. Try the amazing Blue Salt Fish Grill. It always carries the freshest fish/scallops/shrimps with larger portion very flavorful cheaper price and FREE fresh fish ceviche/chips appetizer. As you walk into this clean, friendly looking fish grill, you think, "Wow, I wish I had some large printed photos of the food to look at so I can make my decision based off that." What do you know, there it is. :-) So I'm a sucker for photos. I'm I also a sucker for good, cheap, fast fish tacos. Enough said. This places has those things. The Crispy fish taco, Delicious. The Mahi Mahi grilled taco, Superb. The pita bread was even good under my girlfriends grilled mahi mahi. And I though it was just there for decoration. The salsa/tartar sauce/cocktail sauce bar has large enough bowls you could bathe in. They are quick, and everyone seemed friendly. Ehhh...that's the best I can say. My taco had only a tiny portion of fish and they try to make it seem like you get your money's worth by including two sides. No thanks, I was craving fish not a side of grilled veggies and old fruit. Also the pita bread was chewy.....like it had gone stale so they. Just reheated it. Absolutely love this place. Not sure why they have low ratings. My 5 star is based totally on quality of food. Food is really good and very reasonably price for the quality. I always order my food online. Then pick up. They are always busy so I suggest placing order if you taking it home I always get the salmon bowl with Cajun sauce. It's so delicious!!! I can see how people compare this joint to California Fish Grill (Gardena, Ca.) However, in my opinion, with respect to FOOD, it does not compare. The service (Roxana,) parking, and price were all very good. The menu selection was also pretty damn good. But I'm here for the food people. The food is the nucleus to any 5-Star rating. And the food here was OK. The garlic-butter was straight out of a Country Crock container and the fries were clearly frozen. This to me stinks of average. If I could give it a 3.5, I would. The food is still pretty good most of the time but the service not so much. They do have consistent employees which is usually a bonus but I always get the same girl that is consistently unhelpful and unfriendly. I apparently ruin her chat breaks when we come in! And if there is a special going on she will try to charge you the full price. :-/ This place is pretty good - I walk down with my kids every couple weeks and we are still trying to figure out what we like but the kids really like their tacos (especially the cod). I like their skewer plates and their side are good. We usually go for the hummus, grilled veggies and rice. I see the other reviewers on here like Wahoo's (who doesn't!) but I think this place isn't the same type of restaurant. This is a nice little spot with healthy options and it has a (surprisingly) good happy hour. The menu is Mediterranean-leaning (hummus, skewers, salads), but also has tacos, fish and chips, and bowls. The quality is always good. It's consistent. And the service is pleasant. I would recommend this place. Now for the bad- it's located on a weird strip between PCH and Catalina and the parking is tight. Just try to be nice and patient in getting a parking spot. I've been here many times and am usually pretty satisfied. I usually get the fried catfish plate, which has created my only problem. Twice, I've asked the person that takes my order if it comes with pita bread and both times they said yes. Both times, when I got my order, they brought me no pita (which is bad when I got a side of hummus (am I supposed to eat it with a spoon?)). I asked and they said that the fried plates don't come with pita, but brought me some anyway (which is how they stayed out of three starville). The issue is that the menu is not clear. Under regular plates, it says you can get your fish fried and that it comes with pita bread. However, there's also a seperate section with fried plates that claim they don't come with pita. ANYWAY, the food is good and so is the service. I know this review comes off very complainy, but I like complaining. Also, the parking lot is not very good. read more

YUCK! I love Lobster Rolls..... what the heck did I just buy? The lobster roll was on stale tasting King Hawaiian hot dog buns and the lobster was tough, bland, and so over seasoned it could have been any kind of meat except for the over powering fishy smell. ( I hope I don't get sick). If I wasn't starving, I would just toss in the trash. Lobster meat was chopped so small ( not normal for a lobster roll) it could have passed as canned. I got it with two sides - coleslaw and grilled vegetables - equally unappealing and I will actually just toss those. The best part of my meal was the peach Tzao tea but that cost almost $4! So, a waste of a $20. What a sad disappointment. So far, the best lobster roll still goes to Slapfish with almost equally tasty ones from the food trucks - Cousins of Maine and Lobsta Truck. My friends are fish eaters so they wanted to go here and seeing there was also chicken on the menu I obliged. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, on the menu it describes it as being served with a garlic aioli. It was more like a chipotle, mildly spicy, which is a problem for me because I can't have anything spicy. They should be more specific because I had to ask for it to be remade. When the remade sandwich came out, when I bit into it, there were pieces of fish in it with the chicken breast. I don't know how they did it but it was revolting. read more

We left wondering what all the hullabaloo is about. Then we realized it's healthy fast food -- which is admittedly hard to come by -- and THAT'S the reason for the rave reviews. If you want legitimate fish tacos, or salsa that has any kind if kick to it, or white sauce that doesn't taste like yogurt, go elsewhere. I don't think they use salt or spices or fat -- just herbs -- in their marinades or rubs. Which is good if that's what you're looking for -- but disappointing if you're looking for the real deal. I ordered a salmon taco and a shrimp taco. The shrimp was better -- the shrimp had evidence of having been actually grilled, whereas the salmon was steamed or microwaved. I swear to god -- the salmon comes out baby pink, with no grill marks on it, no charbroiling flavor, and no evidence that it's seen a flame in all of its short lifetime. The "salsa" tasted like chopped tomatoes. No cilantro, no lime, no jalapeno. The addition of tabletop Tapatio made the situation better. We also ordered a calamari appetizer. The marinara was bottled and the batter was flavorless -- it had no color to it (literally, the calamari came out white), evidencing zero added spices. It was like they dunked the calamari in pancake batter and fried 'em up that way. The people sitting next to us ordered skewers, which looked great. I'll probably try it one more time, but not for fish tacos. Leave the Mexican off the menu and call this place what it is -- a healthy, mediterranean fish joint. read more

When this place first opened, D wondered why anyone would want to sit and stare at PCH traffic. But passing it everyday finally got us curious enough to check it out. We both had the crispy fish tacos. D also got a side salad and fries. The fish was good - we definitely appreciated that it was served with cabbage instead of lettuce. D would have preferred not to have that sauce on it - his fault for not specifying though. The fish had also curled up, making it a bit difficult to eat. The salad was rather drenched in dressing, so beware. And I can't forget the salsa bar! Always appreciate salsa bars, although the salsa was rather tame and required spicing up. Sadly, no tortilla chips though. The interior is nice and new. The parking situation can be a bit tight. We're glad we went in my compact car, instead of D's truck. read more

I arrived at the Redondo Beach Malibu Fish Grill on Throwback Thursday by accident. I was visiting a friend and had meant to head in the direction of another fish taco establishment, but somehow I got turned around. (Yeah, yeah, I thought I knew where I was going so I didn't have the GPS on.) It was quite a delicious accident though. The mahi wrap market style with tri-colored slaw and citrus-lime aioli was amazing. I wish there were places serving food like this in northern Virginia! After that first visit, I came back again later in the week with my friend. This time I got fish tacos with sides of veggies and the tri-colored slaw. Mmm, good stuff! My experience here was absolutely awful. I ordered the crabcake sandwich and was appalled that it was made with artificial KRAB. For seven dollars i expect REAL crab meat in a crabcake. The "crab" cake was deep fried solid on the outside and uncooked in the middle, and honestly tasted more like a vomit falafel. I tried to choke down as much as possible as my bf enjoyed his grilled skewers, but couldnt finish more than half. I was disappointed, and angry that people would think a krabcake sandwich would be acceptable. One star (zero if it were possible). read more

You know when you eat at the same restaurant 3 days in a row that they've got something good going on. Being from a landlocked state, I can't be near the ocean without wanting to eat nothing but fresh seafood. Malibu seriously had the best menu ever for a girl like me, particularly because most of the other seafood places nearby were $25+ per meal, and here we were averaging $9/meal. The first night I got into town I had their mahi mahi on top of a fresh Greek salad, and from then on I was theirs. Seroiusly-- fresh, healthy and delicious. My kind of place. read more

Have come here a few times and it has been consistently good. I always get a rice bowl with either salmon or tuna on top. It's huge and delicious. They recently added brown rice to the menu which can be substituted for the pilaf. I don't know what kind of pita bread they use, but it's different than any other I've had and is absolutely delicious. The hummus is good and not served with a giant pool of oil on top (bonus points!). And, make sure to get a cookie for dessert. They are home-made, soft and delicious! Minus 1 point because the parking lot is tiny (only fits about 8 cars) and service is only good if you don't actually need anything. read more
