I have been to the one in Huntington Beach, and didn't think much of it. However, I came to the Redondo Beach location as a second choice - nearby Jus' Poke was closed on a Tue - WTH?!?!?! MFG is located on PCH near 190th in Redondo Beach. MFG specializes in fish entrees ranging from $10 to $13 w/ two sides. You can also choose the flavor on your fish. Sides include salad, veggies, and rice. I ordered the grilled catfish (lemon/oregano), with salad and rice pilaf ($11). The fish was OK. It did not have much taste so I had to add salt: 3 Stars. However, the portion of the fish was about half of what you receive at California Fish Grill for $1.50 less. Secondarily, the sides were garden variety: 3 Stars. The service was OK. The cashier was friendly, and the food came out quickly: 3 Stars. The ambiance is nothing to speak of. There is an outside dining area, but it fronts on busy PCH. In addition, there was a smashed, dried out dead rat in the driveway to the restaurant - nasty!!! - 2 Stars. Don't get me wrong, the concept is great: Fresh seafood at reasonable prices. However, if you have been to California Fish Grill, CFG is much better and less expensive. MFG is a "I'm in the neighborhood kinda place", because I wouldn't drive the 5 miles from my office to come back here again. read more

My first time to Malibu Fish Grill and there were only things that were good. 1) the staff, they were so helpful, efficient, and friendly 2) the fish taco Unfortunately, the rest of what we ordered was pretty mediocre. I had been wanting to come here for a while. My hubby surprised me when we pulled up into the parking lot. It was about 6:45PM and the super tiny lot was full, so we parked elsewhere and walked over. Not a big deal for us. * Clam Chowder - it was a bit runny and not all that much was in it. It tasted okay. Not the best, not the worst. It was barely warm. I would have liked it to at least be soup temperature, or better yet, super hot! * Ahi Poke - it wasn't like any other Poke I've had. I'm used to Poke with avocado pieces and other things in it. I like that it was ALL Poke, I just didn't care for the flavor, it seemed a bit vinegar-y although there isn't any in there, per the description. I enjoyed the chips that came with it, I ate them with salsa. * Cod Fish Taco - it was pretty good! Hubby had that and I tasted just a piece of the fish. The only drawback is that the fish is basically a sliver. It could have used two pieces or a bigger piece. * Special - Yellowtail - at first, it was pretty good. Then I got to the part that appeared under-cooked and looked like a seared ahi tuna. I don't know if this is the way it was supposed to be or if it truly was under-cooked. Either way, I just couldn't eat about the last fifth of the filet. I eat sushi & poke, so that consistency doesn't really bother me, I just don't want to get sick and also, it didn't taste as good as the cooked portion. * The sides I got were Rice Pilaf, which was rather bland, and the grilled veggies which would have been superb if they had been HOT. They were not even warm. I also got pita, but it's not a pita with a pocket. The plating/presentation is very nice. Made my Poke and Yellowtail Plate look fancy. I think this place has the potential to be really successful. They have pretty good service and it wasn't difficult to get anything we needed. A suggestion I have is to set napkins out somewhere so we don't have to bother asking someone for more. We didn't see any, so I'm thinking the only way to get more is by asking. The table next to us had a discrepancy in their order and the employee took care of it without question. That's great service, too. I'm glad I came to give it a go. Too bad I probably won't be coming back for the grilled fish. If we come back again, I would pretty much only consider getting fried fish of some sort. I was trying to be healthy with the fish being grilled. Sometimes you can't win. Read the reviews and take your chances. Some love the food, some don't. Some love the service, some don't. Been eating from here for a few years every now and again. They used to be a solid 4 star spot before but food quality and quantity have declined while prices have gone up. The last few times I have taken out they have screwed up the order as well. Either missed ingredients altogether or just didn't get the order right and by the time I am home, it's too late to do anything about it. Overall go to place for fish tacos. We got the ice coffee because we went for lunch... which is advise avoiding. Overall two thumbs up! Parking is a bit of a tough situation, but you can park down the street for free at food 4 less and walk over if you don't want to hunt for closer street parking. read more

Ate here on a Saturday afternoon with spouse and three grown children. Small parking lot, would be tough if they were crowded. Two of us got fish tacos, one got Poké salad, two got seared tuna on salad. All very good. This place has fantastic food, great flavor and fresh ingredients. My main complaint is that they price their dishes like a dining restaurant, but they are an eatery, as the name aptly describes. Also, when I ate there, the menu was incorrectly priced lower than the actual cost. But other than that the food was delicious. We ordered the chicken avo wrap & chicken buttermilk sandwich, sweet potato fries, and a side of shrimp skewer. Everything was pretty tasty. The only thing that was disappointing was the shrimp. Arrived around 7:45 and placed our order, and figured this was fine because on Yelp it says they close at 9. The cashier asked if we wanted to dine there or take our order to go. I said we wanted to dine there, as we had planned on it. I tipped ahead, sat at a table, and waited for our order. We were surprised when our order was handed to use in a to-go bag without explanation or apology, merely a "here's your order" before the cashier walked back behind the counter. The ticket on our bag even said "Here", and there was a guy dining next to use with plated food, so we were very confused. Glad I didn't order a glass of wine, like the group after us, because they were basically forced to take their wine to go. I wish the staff had said they were closing and not offered for us to dine there because we would have come back at another time, and had our dinner somewhere else. We didn't want to eat in our car, so we drove back home to eat instead; Definitely defeated the purpose of going out for dinner. I left feeling like the staff was bothered that we were there, and our food got cold and soggy by the time we were able to finally get back home to eat it. Food was delicious and very fresh. The interior is very simple and the patio backs up to Sepulveda but there are hedges to block the road and noise. It doesn't look like much on the inside but everyone was very happy with their lunch. I had the chopped greek salad, My daughter had the tacos and pita/hummus and my son had a chicken quesadilla. I love this place. I eat here at least once a week, either from DoorDash, pickup or coming into the location. I order their salads and add salmon every time. It's always juicy and never over cooked (which I love- I don't like dry fish). The girls that work the cashier are always so kind and helpful. I also like that I can buy a glass of wine when dining inside. There is parking and good natural light. The space is always clean too. Four stars for the prices. Lunch was $33.00. That's pricy for two people at lunch. I know its fish and its fresh, but a little high. Maybe it was the diet coke?? OK, what the hell...I just went 5 stars. But, other than that it was fantastic. I had the salmon bowl and it was (and should have been) a nice big piece of fish. Well cooked and the tarter sauce was excellent. Came with brown rice, lettuce, cabbage, a bit of cheese and a nice light dressing. Perfect lunch. My wife had the salmon plate with the largest Greek salad ever as a side. Again, Salmon was really nicely cooked and good size. I always fight going here, but i have to say it was very good. Wow, really? I'm the first to review this place?? This place opened about a couple months ago so I was pretty sure a fellow South Bay Yelper already put in their two cents about this one by now but I guess not... Malibu Fish is totally Yelp-worthy. It's the only GREAT fast food seafood I know of that serves up more than just fish n chips. Try one of their Grilled Fish Plates and you will know what I mean. It's a grilled fillet of whatever fish you choose that eclipses HALF YOUR PLATE (the salmon and mahi mahi are excellent) and seasoned the way you want: garlic butter, cajun, lemon-oregano, or teriyaki. The other half of your plate is shrouded with a garden salad drizzled with their tasty house dressing and your choice of rice pilaf or fries. I recommend the fries...they're thick and tossed with herbs and a great excuse to hoard their salsa bar and dip with their cocktail and tartar sauces. Inconspicuously hidden beneath your giant fish fillet are several wedges of warm pita bread, which I think is actually FLAT BREAD because they don't have pockets. Awesome compliment to the fish! Now I compel you to try this: Take a piece of pita (or flat bread, whatever), a chunk of fish, top it with a little tartar then fresh salsa, roll it like a taco and stuff it in your pie hole! This is a great place! I wasn't sure how it was going to be because this location seems to have problems with retaining any sort of business establishment. I was surprised at how diverse the menu was with choices like plates, sandwiches, bowls, wraps, salads and even pastas all with your choice of fish, chicken or steak! You can get your fish done in either creole, asian or mediterranean style with their choices of garlic butter, cajun, lemon-oregano or teriyaki seasoning. I had the chicken kabob plate and it comes with two sides so I chose rice pilaf and a salad. It was pretty darn good as it came with two kabob sticks and had grilled zucchini and onions as well. All the plates come with pita bread too! Every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday so you can get $2.00 tacos all day. My dining partner tried the salmon taco and said it was really good, better than Wahoos! It was crowded with diners which is a good sign! The wait staff were very quick to clean off used tables because there was a steady flow of people the whole the time we were there. The patrons are more the upper middle class beach crowd which is a good sign that this place punches out a quality product! Definitely check this place out! Great quality, variety of plate selections and overall healthy fare! Parking is limited but there's plenty of it in the huge strip mall next door or if it's after 5:00, across the street at the post office or the bank (shhh!). read more

The food is very good (I had the tilapia grilled fish plate with garlic butter seasoning and rice pilaf on the side) but their parking lot is really small. We were lucky someone was leaving when we arrived or else we would have just gone somewhere else. I live near this restaurant and I have been thinking about trying Taco Tuesday's many times as I pass the restaurant driving! I finally made it into the restaurant this evening to order fish, chicken, steak tacos to go! I was so excited because I love taco Tuesday. I started with the two kinds of fish tacos....they weren't very interesting....not very tasty even with the salsa they provided. I've been went on to eat steak Tahoe which was shredded so I didn't really taste like steak it was very odd for a steak taco it should be cutting a little quarter inch pieces pieces? My girls LOVE this place. Not even for the obvious choice, something from the sea...they dig the butter pasta. Who can argue? It comes with one side, and a small fountain drink - which is a good deal for around $5. Truth be told, I NEVER mind coming here, the tacos are really good. You can get the typical chicken, or steak, OR, a variety of fish tacos. You also get a choice between flour and corn tortillas, all said and done, the tacos are loaded, I can make a meal out of two tacos, but I like to leave full, so I usually go with 3! Tip - go on Taco Tuesday, all tacos are at a reduced price, between $2-$3 depending on what you get. The staff is all very friendly, and the food takes 10 minutes or less, which is fast considering it's fresh. I don't want to leave out the fish, they have a good variety, and a nice portion. The great thing about Malibu Fish Grill, is that you can eat really healthy here, they also make some great grilled vegetables. I also appreciate that they have a good salsa bar, and serve a small variety of beers ($4) - which is a good deal for an IPA when out to dinner. The atmosphere/seating is a step up from fast food, but not quite at the level of your favorite local restaurant. You get your food, eat, and leave the mess behind, they will buss your table. I always get the grilled cajun tilapia plate with the vegetables and hummus as the sides. The tilapia is always grilled to perfection. Not too dry and always perfectly seasoned. The vegetables are never overcooked and always well seasoned. Hummus as a side is always a good thing when there is no extra charge. The food and service is always outstanding. Every once in while I get the crab cakes which is also pretty tasty but I try not to get it too often since its fried. I like Malibu Fish Grill...so far I've tried it a few times and found the fish to be fresh, quickly and well prepared, and a very healthy option to other "fast dining" restaurants. - I like the seasoning/glaze options, though have settled on the miso glaze as my favorite. - I usually get salmon or ahi, both are very good and I enjoyed the mahi mahi as well. - I prefer the salad/fish option, as I don't partake of a lot of rice...but the salad is very filling. - The salsa bar is a good perk, with both pico and salsa verde. - The location is usually crowded, which is a good sign! - The parking is a little iffy on the corner of PCH and Catalina...small lot...but free. - The prices are a little steep, dinner for two usually tops $40, but you really get what you pay for especially in fish...because you can pay for cheaper fish and get sick, or you can pay for better fish and really enjoy the dinner, flavors, and NOT get sick. All in all, Malibu is a good few times a month option for a quick sit down fish meal w/o having to do a formal dining or fast-food joint...its right in between and quality. ENJOY!! read more
