I like Malibu Fish Grill...so far I've tried it a few times and found the fish to be fresh, quickly and well prepared, and a very healthy option to other "fast dining" restaurants. - I like the seasoning/glaze options, though have settled on the miso glaze as my favorite. - I usually get salmon or ahi, both are very good and I enjoyed the mahi mahi as well. - I prefer the salad/fish option, as I don't partake of a lot of rice...but the salad is very filling. - The salsa bar is a good perk, with both pico and salsa verde. - The location is usually crowded, which is a good sign! - The parking is a little iffy on the corner of PCH and Catalina...small lot...but free. - The prices are a little steep, dinner for two usually tops $40, but you really get what you pay for especially in fish...because you can pay for cheaper fish and get sick, or you can pay for better fish and really enjoy the dinner, flavors, and NOT get sick. All in all, Malibu is a good few times a month option for a quick sit down fish meal w/o having to do a formal dining or fast-food joint...its right in between and quality. ENJOY!! read more

What used to be a solid go-to for us has slowly started going downhill. We have been coming here for years and really enjoy the fresh fish. They used to have "add 2 sides for $2) but that had gone up in price and the portions smaller. Their salad dressing is quite tasty as well as the light and fluffy pita bread. We've had the rice bowls tacos and fish plates. The pico de gallo used to be non spicy but now has chunks of cut up spicy jalapeño. Kids eat free on Sunday- live places that kids eat free! Their normal kids meals are about $6. But to be honest my toddler only likes the rice, fries and anything she can dip in tartar sauce. The grilled chicken is a bit dry and their veggies are undercooked with seasoning on it, which might not be for everyone taste Not bad but not great. read more

I noticed someone sitting next to us that had the grilled fish salad and the piece of fish is huge. They do have many different options such as wraps, salads as well as fish entrees. I don't like having to write bad yelp reviews and I'd rather have solved my issue inside the store with the manager, Jasmin, but I was told by her to write one here because "the owner reads the complaints and he can do something about it." Confusing b/c I would have thought the manager could do something without needing me to write a negative review? So onto the actual issue: All I wanted to do was use a coupon (pictured) that I was sent by them through my email, but was told, initially, by Rosa, the cashier, that b/c I screenshot-ed the email that I couldn't use it. That's pretty ridiculous, especially since ya'll send me soooooo many emails, so I delete the emails! The email NEVER mentioned having to present it in email form, it just said to MENTION the ad. In addition, idk what was up with Rosa, but she has MAJOR attitude problems and seemed pretty happy that I couldn't use the coupon, which is really weird. Wish Jasmin could have solved this small problem in the store, but oh well. And Rosa, you should really change your attitude before you lose business for your company, especially with the coronavirus going on (which is already making businesses lose money). The fundraiser will be at Redondo Beach Restaurant, Malibu Fish Grill, 725 N. Pacific Coast Hwy. in Redondo Beach. The fundraiser is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The 34-year-old Horne, described by colleagues as a "loyal friend" with a "true sense of leadership," was killed Sunday when his vessel was rammed by a small boat near Santa Cruz Island. I got the crab cake Mediterranean salad. It comes in a giant bowl with 4 quarters of a delicious pita bread. My dad got the fish and chips plate. The fish and chips comes with one extra side and he got the coleslaw. The coleslaw is very fresh and lightly dressed and has raisins. we really liked it. The crab cakes are so delicious! The fish was beer-battered and crispy. A few splashes of Malt Vinegar and I was in heaven. They use Cod. YUM!!! The fries were also very good and not too oily. I've had some of their other stuff on previous visits (from over 1-2 years ago) and I wasn't impressed. I'm a die-hard fan of California Fish Grill and I was comparing the two, which YOU SHOULD NOT DO. Silly me. Here's why: both places offer different items. For the grilled fish options, I would still go to CA fish grill, but for interesting bowls, salads, crab cakes, and beer-battered fish and chips, I'll come to Malibu Fish Grill. Now whenever I am in the South Bay, I'm going to alternate between CA Fish Grill and this place. Both places can and should coexist. ALSO, important! I have friends who hate seafood and it's sometimes hard to pick a place when you have people who refuse to eat meat and who refuse to eat seafood. This place also has a lot of chicken and steak options. Do check out the menu online. Parking at this place is very tight but it is located adjacent to a strip mall which has plentiful parking, relatively speaking. We parked here and walked over. Go, check it out. It's ok (at best).. We used to go to Rubio's Fish tacos for taco Tuesday every single Tuesday. Like religiously. But that was when my daughter's daycare was less than a mile away from the Lomita Rubio's. So when we switched daycares I had to find a new fish taco place for us to celebrate our weekly taco Tuesday dinners. I found this place as I would drive through the area, and since we are relocating to this part of the neighborhood pretty soon I wanted to find a new place for us. They have really extensive specials for taco Tuesday since all their tacos are one dollar off and they have other specials as well. When I got there I ordered five tacos and a medium drink and was looking forward to all the variety versus the typical beer battered fish taco. Not to knock it or anything because I love them, I was looking forward to some variety in this new spot. After about five minutes of waiting, my daughter and I get our tacos. First thing to notice is at the tortilla is kind of dry. It's not moist and tender, it's more flaky and dry. Like they took them straight out of the package from the grocery store. I got the grilled shrimp taco which had three tiny shrimp and it was alright. It was topped with shredded cheddar cheese like the Mexican blend you buy at the grocery store. It was not freshly shredded. I am also the kind of purest that thinks that real tacos should not have cheese on them. My mahi-mahi taco came out and it was a little on the fishy side. I just was overall very underwhelmed at the presentation, the lack of zest or flavor and the quality of tortilla. My daughter didn't want to eat any of her crispy fish taco. It was a little over done because the batter was rock hard. She actually only ate a bite or two of tortilla. There were no limes or onions/cilantro or even salsas to decorate my tacos like they do at taco places, so the toppings that come on your taco are the ones that you're stuck with basically. The condiment bar consists of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, and lemons. I don't know, maybe because this is a "fish grill" the focus should not be on the tacos, but then why have such a large taco offering? I think they need to step up their game for being in the south bay. So much competition for good tacos, this place is definitely not going to be revisited. For about $2.50 to almost $4 per taco after the one dollar discount on taco Tuesday, I think I would rather drive the extra couple of miles north on PCH to get to the other Rubio's that's closer. Or just try another taco place. Any fish taco place. read more

Did the clam chowder, shrimp quesadillas and the crab cakes. Filled me up and now I can watch the sunset down at the beach. Most entrees about 14. Fish tacos 4 with lots of variation. Not fast food, cooked to order so have an appetizer a libation and wait for dinner. Eat in but saw a lot of people with call ins and pickup. Not high line, get your food eat and enjoy the rest of the day! Soup was good but very thick, crab cakes were great and the quesadillas was filling with sour cream, guacamole some tomatoes and lettuce. Crab cakes had a side sauce that was tasty. I have only gone on Taco Tuesdays when all flour/corn tortilla tacos (regularly: $2.95-3.49) are $2 each. Tried: 1. Grilled Shrimp Taco- You can taste the shrimp and they are decently sized. 2. Steak Taco- tender 3. Fried and Grilled Fish (Ono) Taco- I like both! I've also ordered their $2 Make-A-Meal options where you get 2 sides for $2. Tried: 1. Grilled Zucchini- This is def. worth it if you like grilled vegetables. 2. Fresh Fruit- Pineapple, strawberry, honeydew that time. I wouldn't get it again as it's a bit small. 3. Cole Slaw- Decent. The tacos are usually filled with lots of sliced cabbage with diced tomatoes and a salsa that has a little kick to it. This has been my routine to walk here after a jog at the nearby woodchip path. I am a regular at Malibu Eatery and go there nearly every week. They've got great food in general and friendly service. My favorites are the crispy Baja fish taco and crab cakes. Food is mostly consistent, but can be a little pricy at times; however, there are cheaper options on happy hour as well as Taco Tuesday that are delicious and filling. The interior is modern and simple. The only issue is parking when the place is busy, but I have rarely encountered this problem. read more

This place is a go-to for a quick, cheap, healthy-ish restaurant meal. I like it because it is easy to avoid starches like bread and rice (although they have them). The inside is nice enough to sit down and enjoy your meal as well, and I've never seen this location too busy to accommodate my fiance and I. The service is excellent also; I see the same friendly staff every time I go in, and they are always very nice, and quick with the food. One time we even came in like 10 min before they closed without us knowing it, and when we noticed that they were cleaning up, we got up to leave and they insisted that we stay and finish eating. There's not too much to say about this place other than if you want to either be in, and out, and total under $15- this is the place. Only reason this isn't a 5 star is the perking situation... other then that, the food is pretty delicious. I always order the Baja bowl with ahi poke and brown rice, and a side of avocado. You can't go wrong with that combination. One thing I've leaned is to order ahead, they are pretty quick with getting your order ready. Trust me, it's definitely the best idea since it does get pretty busy at certain times, and of course, the parking is extremely tiny... The best bet is to park in the plaza right next to it and pick up your food. read more

The place is really good.pricey but good. I ordered seared ahi with humus and tricolor slaw ($16.50) and it was tasty. Ahi was well done which I didn't expect at all.I love my ahi to be rare.humus was plain; it definitely lacked flavors. Their tartar and coctail sauces are amazing. You can literary eat those sauces with a spoon. Since it was my 1st time, cashier (a very nice lady) explained the whole menu to me!!!!!! All in details! That was very nice of her. The food came out fast. The only complaint(not really) I have is that their glass doors are too clean. I didn't see it and walked right through it leaving a huge bruise on my forehead lol Cashiers ran to help me instead laughing at me and helped me to get up. Very nice people! I do still go there and haven't been disappointed again. They had a lot of turnover and the new crew seemed to be a little lost. I saw no old faces of people that I knew to be very conscientious and who hustled. I spoke to them at other locations and they suggested I click on their feedback link. Came in on Halloween 10/31/2019 in the evening. There were 2 females at the cash register. The shorter female was very rude the entire time, from the beginning to the end. Seared Ahi Tuna was ok and accompanied side of Sweet Potato Fries was really good. Rainbow Trout was bland and tasteless and companied Seasonal vegetables were unusually salty. I could have asked for another more edible vegetables but I really didn't want to deal with the very rude shorter female staff. Malibu often has very nice staff and I was surprise of what happened yesterday. I will not come back again given so many options around at much better price point. Try the amazing Blue Salt Fish Grill. It always carries the freshest fish/scallops/shrimps with larger portion very flavorful cheaper price and FREE fresh fish ceviche/chips appetizer. Service is always attentive and awesome and is located on Artesia in Redondo Beach. read more
