A short wait in line - this traditional Old San Juan favorite draws crowds - but well worth it. No frills, old school spot with unflappable counter service, strong cafe con leche, and a great mallorca sandwich. What's a mallorca, you ask? Sort of like a Cuban style sandwich, pressed to perfection, but here it is dusted on top with confectioner's sugar. I had the egg, cheese, and ham version and the blend of salty and sweet was an excellent way to start the day before walking up the hill to the never ceases to amaze El Morro. Run of the mill Puerto Rican diner with some delicious mallorca, which is basically sweet bread with powdered sugar used to make egg, ham, cheese, butter, etc. sandwiches that are grilled in what resembles a panini press. I tried the plain cheese mallorca and the ham egg and cheese, which I liked much better. It's odd, having a sweet breakfast sandwich, but it really works. Perfect place for a low key breakfast while you're out being a tourist or a quick snack in between the two forts. read more

This was a super cute greasy spoon diner joint that our hotel referred us to. Seemed very authentic, lots of locals. Waiters were friendly. Cafe con leche was tasty and the malloras are a must. A very unassuming little bakery. Breakfast was homey and delicious. The mallorca with ham and cheese was delicious! Pancakes were normal-people-sized instead of the larger-than-life size served at iHops. The servers were very welcoming as well. If you are looking for the legit and authentic mallorca in Puerto Rico, this is the spot. And they have tasty coffee - granted you like it strong and bold. We all got the mallorcas and were dreaming about it afterwards. We tried the mallorca at a different bakery that was closer to our hotel but it didn't come close at all in terms of taste or texture. Stayed in Old San Juan and this was my breakfast place for 3 days in a row. It is always packed for breakfast, very crowded and service can be a little slow but oh my! It is worth the wait. Fresh OJ and cafe con leche hit the spot. Once you get a server and your order is placed food arrives very quickly. Mallorcas are too die for. Definitely a most visist while in San Juan. Be prepared to make a line to pay, that's how packed it is in the morning. read more

After our server told us that they were all out of Mallorca, all the tables around us received there's. Even people who ordered minutes after us got Mallorca. Stopped in for lunch today. I absolutely loved the atmosphere! Our waiter was so nice and spoke English perfectly. I ordered the Milanese and Habichuelas and the gf ordered chuletas and Habichuelas. The food came out within minutes piping hot. Our food was prepared perfectly. The only problem was that it was a little bland. Definitely could have used some salt. For dessert the waiter recommended Flan De Queso and boy was he right! It was so good! Reminded me of cheesecake but way better. Even though the food was a little bland it was prepared so well that I must try this place again. The service was awesome and you can't beat 22 dollars for two entrees and a dessert! read more

I love this cafeteria...it is no frills, diner seating, good food...the mallorca is the best thing on this planet. If you come here it's mandatory that you have a mallorca, duh. I ordered the one with cheese, egg, and bacon. It may look like you just snorted crack after eating it, but at least you won't be alone. It is soooo good...my boyfriend ordered ham and eggs that came with fries and he said it was pretty good too, I mean what can you do to ham and eggs, right? A local and authentic spanish bakery/diner. Good old fashion coffees with diner breakfast food. There's a whole window full of pastries and baked goods on display. While in Puerto Rico I ended up eating here a few times. The fresh bread is bomb, and is basically dunked in butter. The Molongo here is apparently pretty bangin if you're a Molango fan. I'm not sure but mine had about 5% chicken and 95% plantains. I would have preferred a 50/50 split, but again, I'm not sure on how to make Molongo. Other than that, pretty basic spot and a cool place to eat breakfast if you're in the area. Also, if you're on a budget, you can get eggs, sausage and bread (which will fill you) for less than $5 read more

Cafeteria Mallorca is on San Francisco Street, right across from the church. We visited early Sunday morning, a glorious Tres Reyes Epiphany Day. Because most establishments were closed, it was very busy but they move the crowds quickly. It is a classic Puerto Rican style place ... not fancy at all and the meals were basic but delicious typical Puerto Rican food. Very reasonably priced. This establishment was recommend by a local, so I gave it a try. I first went for the panakes and eggs which were kind of meh. Then I read the reviews and tried the Mallorca - a pastry stuffed with cheese in my case and powdered down with sugar. It may not sound very spectacular but it was pretty awesome. This is probably the only reason I am giving it 4 stars. Customer service was good - about as friendly as the rest of town! read more

Wonderful variety of breakfast, lunch and desserts! It is so delicious that you can go there every day not not get tired of it. Try every variety of the Mallorca sandwich, and the desserts in the window. We started out every day there for breakfast and loved it. Sister to the La Bombonera, this place is not quite as crowded or as small and they serve pretty much the same stuff. Again seats are typically crowded and the menu is limited to eggs and sandwich and sweets. Coffee is strong, service is ok, and the food is ok. Do it if you can't get into La Bombonera, but skip it if you want better food. It's just another café in a string of many cafes in this city. Try the ham and cheese sandwich with powdered sugar. It's an interesting taste of sweet and savory. It's one of those things that taste really awesome if you are hung over or high with the munchies. read more

I had breakfast here one day on a visit from San Francisco. OK, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I didn't really like their Mallorcas, and I got fruit salad which was pretty pithy. The best part is the customers who seem to be regulars and who are chatting away with each other. The guy sitting outside with a stereo selling (I think) lottery tickets is awesome. Wow, we must have been on an off day. We were really looking forward to our first breakfast in Old San Juan. what a let down. We both ordered a Mallorca. When it is described as a pressed sandwich I expected it to be warm. it was not. and the boyfriends looked like the just unwrapped a piece of american cheese and flopped it on there. they were not enjoyable and the coffee was less than average. the saving grace was the pastries I got to go. they were so good I came back 2 days later for a box of them to take home to MO with me. I do not know what they were called but they were square, had powdered sugar on them and filled with fruit. so good!! read more
