Went there for lunch, and had the turkey burger. Was pretty good, but could have used a little more seasoning. Sushi rolls were okay. No one at our table tried the steak, which is supposed to be their specialty, and looked good in the meat case. I'm willing to go back and try again. read more

Toady is our one year anniversary, and my girl has been begging me to go to Malones Steak house because she said it is so awesome. We ordered the 8oz sirloin steaks medium well, which should have been a slight pink center. They brought them charred to a crisp. So they remade them, and they were still bleeding, alive! So they re-fired, and half was right and the other half was still bleeding. I will never go back to this one even though they did comp the whole meal. They need to hire someone who knows how to cook steak! So we still tip the waiter, and left. Happy Anniversary to us. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Always a delicious meal that never disappoints! I love filet, although I highly recommend trying the 6 oz. sirloin here, steamed broccoli and loaded baked potato! My sister in law and I were recently here for dinner. She ordered the filet, and I ordered the sirloin. Even she agreed, the sirloin was the best! Went In on a Saturday had a reservation but still had to wait 20 minutes which was okay. We sat at bar and had a drink before dinner and service was good at bar. We love the food here and order take out frequently. However, the past two times we have been told "it will be ready in 25-30 minutes". But this has NOT been the case at all. The first time was 45 minutes and tonight was 50 minutes. We wouldn't mind to wait that long in our home, but when someone drives to the restaurant and sits in the parking lot for almost 30 minutes (after the quoted 25 min) we would expect someone to at least apologize for the wait. Had my first meal at Malone's and it was during their lunch hour. It was a large party of 21. Service was pretty good except they kept bringing the wrong drinks to everyone. I had a coke but they brought me iced tea multiple times. Others had coke but were brought diet coke. The sushi looked great but unfortunately I ordered a steak. I had the 8oz sirloin and ordered it medium rare. The Lexingtonian salad was ok but too much dressing for my personal taste. Can't please everyone with a group salad. My steak was another story. One of the worst steaks I've ever had. I could have had a better cooked steak at Hometown buffet. I ordered medium rare but it came out medium well and as burnt as charcoal on one side. The meat tasted like liver but it was steak. Not good at all. I did NOT return my steak because I don't return food for fear of what the kitchen staff will do to it. I didn't even eat half my steak and no one questioned why I didn't eat it I ordered the mushrooms as a side item and they were very good. The people were nice and the service was pretty good so I would return but I will never order another steak from them. At these prices the cooks should know how to cook a steak to order. read more

This meal was uncharacteristically an awful experience. Went there to celebrate a birthday. The service was very,very slow. The steak was almost too salty to eat and the baked potato was also very salty. We heard so many good things about Malone's we couldn't wait to try it. We were a party of 13 celebrating a wedding anniversary. Pro's: Very accommodating for large parties. The wait staff was very attentive and extremely nice. Bottomless Lexingtonian salad was superb. Very nice atmosphere. Con's: Pricey. We did have a large party, however a few orders were not cooked correctly and some were completely wrong(steak mix up). The food was good but at this price my expectations were high (think Ruth Chris) and frankly I was a little disappointed. The bearnaise sauce served with the filet mignon was rancid, when we complained we were told it was fine. I went to Malone's for my birthday. We went right when it opened up. Our waiter Harshal was the coolest and wicked knowledgable about the menu and gave us some suggestions. Seriously, the best waiter ever, in the history of the world. Nicest guy ever. Anyways, I got the Pixi Stick Martini and it was really really good! My husband and I got the 8 oz Prime Sirloin w/ baked potato. It was cooked absolutely perfectly, best steak we ever had. For dessert, I got the coconut creme pie and my husband got the apple/pecan crisp and that was exceptional as well. I will definitely come back and I felt like it was worth the money. read more

I am not a 100%, red-blooded steakhouse man, but my father-in-law is. Therefore, during the five years my wife and I lived in Lexington, we visited Malone's every time her parents came to town. Also, I confess, a few times by ourselves, and I once sneaked in alone. Come to think of it, maybe I am a steakhouse man. Sometimes. Remember Anthony Bourdain's dictum. When you go to a steakhouse, eat steak. The seafood at Malone's isn't awful, it's OK. The steaks, however, are outstanding. Listen, I know it's hard to find even OK fish in Lexington, but unless you're going to Malone's twice a week, stick to steak. I am a chewy-steak lover, so I go for the sirloin Oscar (lump crab meat, asparagus, and Mornay sauce on top). My wife is a purist, so she gets a filet mignon with bearnaise. Both are excellent. All the side items are worthwhile. I usually go for the bacony sauteed spinach, but the mashed potatoes are great if you feel up to it and have a crane to get you out of your chair. I avoid the starchy sides not because I don't love them, but because of God's own French bread and garlic butter, which is endless and complimentary, as is the "Lexingtonian house salad," a traditional lettuce salad with loads of bacon and ranch dressing. Appetizers are therefore unnecessary (though they too are very good). The wine list is good for my budget, though I cannot speak to its completeness north of $50--I don't get that far. There are several decent steaky wines under $30, but I tend to remember that the salad and bread saved me $10 on an appetizer and so feel empowered to hit a $30-$40 bottle. Many good wines by the glass, too, in case you want white with the salad and red with steak. For afters, there is port (though it ain't on the wine list); but you're in Kentucky, aren't you? Drink bourbon, for God's sake, one of the good sipping bourbons like Blanton's or Booker's. (Woodford Reserve is decent, but overrated as sipping whiskey.) So: Go to Malone's. Do not order appetizers, as they are unnecessary. Eat steak, you're at a steakhouse. Drink lots of wine, since you saved all that money from the appetizers. Drink bourbon (NEAT) after dinner. My fiancé and I have been coming here every year for our anniversary & and everything used to be top notch... unfortunately this year they had fallen short ... food just wasn't at the par it used to be !!! We started with the king crab cocktail that was stated to be around 4.5 oz of crab ... we were contemplating on getting the leg since we were sharing but was told the cocktail had more oz, from my picture below. Doesn't look to be so, looks like about 2.5 oz. you can be the judge. Our steaks were extremely salty and undercooked :( we ordered asparagus as a side around $5 a pop for all stems!!!... I don't mind a few stems but all stems ...no bueno... my fiancé loves the apple crisp but said the apples were hard and the crust was salty ... completely different then it normally is ... no pecans on top like normal??? .... the service was great which is why there is 2 stars and not 1. I was here for an interview dinner not too long ago, and was promised an excellent meal - one of the finest in the area. While Malone's didn't live up to that hype, it was decent and enjoyable. We started with a variety of appetizers for the table, none of which were memorable, but they weren't bad, either. I'm not a fan of the mayo dressing kick some of these southern steak houses seem to be on, so I ordered myself a Caesar salad instead of the default house. It was large but pretty mediocre. My steak, on the other hand, a 12oz filet Oscar, was great. It was cooked properly and was delicious. I had none of the doneness or saltiness issues that other reviewers noted. Service was a bit slow but adequate, and pricing was as expected for a place billing itself as a classy steak house. Overall, I liked Malone's. I don't think I would make any special effort to return, but it was a solid meal. 3 stars. read more

My friend took us here when we visited him in Lexington. It is a nice restaurant. Their meats are from Chicago, but that's nothing special for us since we're from Chicago. This place is known for their steaks..and I ordered a calamari salad because I wasn't too hungry and watching my weight. But I must say that my calamari salad was really good! It's really just greens, deep fried calamari with tomato and onion chunks with blue cheese dressing but it was a great combination. My fiance and other friend ordered their ribeye steak. They enjoyed it since they finished it all. My fiance ordered green beans on the side. He didn't like that so much because the green beans were very soggy.. we're not used to that, I suppose. My other two friends ordered pork chop and club sandwich. They enjoyed their meal. This place is located next to bars and ice cream parlor, so after you're done with dinner you can walk out for desserts or grocery shop at Whole Foods! Overall it was a good experience. Ok there is no vegan food here, except for maybe some miso soup... but what i do eat is normally pretty good. Calamari with banana peppers I love this. Bread they serve you while yr waiting is pretty good, ok. Have been to M's twice , and had good experiences... Shrimp tempura was good, I'm a sucker for eel sushi, but the yellow tail didn't taste so fresh to me... But I guess this is what u get for ordering sushi at a steak house - other reviewers said this too. Moms salmon was awesome, had a bite/ and grandpas walleye was tasty, though I can't say it's my fav. Most people who ordered steak like meals were also happy. Had a very nice twin filet with the Kentucky Bourbon Barbecue sauce and onion straws. The filets were perfectly cooked to my "medium" request. The Lexingtonian salad dressing wasn't to my liking (I'm not fond of mayonnaise based dressings) but it was unique and the other diners in our party enjoyed it. I always appreciate restaurants that serve local beers and spirits, and Malones does that well. We enjoyed Lexington's own Kentucky Ale and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, both on draft. The Bourbon Barrel Ale was served in a Bourbon Barrel Ale logo snifter, a nice touch that is rare in the USA (most European establishments are proud to serve their beer in a matching logo glass). I was in Lexington about a year ago, looking for a quick place to eat when the concierge at my hotel recommended Malone's. It's quite intesting! Malone's is connected to 2 other restaurants and you can sit in one and order from all 3!!! We don't have anything like that in Chicago! My friend and I ordered the spinach dip (which is served with fried lasagna noodles instead of chips or bread) and LOVED it. We also had some Kentucky ale, which we loved and miss! We initially went to drakes but it was so overcrowded we decided to go sit Inside the Malone's side. We went here to try the burger week burger. And let me tell you, the service was impeccable!!! They were always quick to refill our drinks and get whatever we needed. The table bread was delicious and so were the burgers. The burgers were super large too that you could probably share with another. The French fries were also seasoned very well. Ok here's the deal does Malone's have good food yes, is it over priced yes. The decor and location are the best two things about this place, they have a couple locations and it's decent upscale place to watch the game or grab a meal. I used to like the food at The Chop House better but they have gone down hill a bit. Pro's 1. Good location's and decor. 2. Has good food at times. 3. Some time they offer a courtesy drive if you had a few to many and most people at these places do that can be both a pro and a con. Con's 1. Over priced for what you get. 2. Is very crowded at times like most Lexington restaurants on game days or the weekend. 3. I have been to Sal's, Malone's, and Drakes and to me they seem like the same place so why do they have all these different names for pretty much the same restaurant. 4. It's a local chain and not a good one, there are other local chain's that are much better than these guys. read more

Visited Malones while on business last week. As I am a huge steak fan, I was excited for my very expensive rib-eye steak and I was not disappointed. I ordered it medium rare and it was so yummy! My friend liked here meat cooked well and yep that is what she got in fact it was so well done I do not know how she could even cut it, which was disappointing for here. We had the fried zucchini and artichokes for a starter and it was really good. But all the fried food in Kentucky was really really good. We ordered the raspberry ice tea which was pretty tastey too! Oh and if you go there and are a fan of coconut pie, you must ordered a piece of theirs it is to-die-for!!! read more

This was a work dinner with locals, so I went for their recommendations. The Lexingtonian Salad was very tasty...this is NOT the kind of salad you get with dressing on the side. There's a lot of dressing, but I really enjoyed it. My companions got all different things (king crab legs, snapper, cheeseburger sliders), but I got my go-to work dinner: Filet Minon Oscar. I loved it. They have my favorite beer, the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, one of the best reasons to travel to KY. The ambiance was great, not too loud, not too quiet. It's hard to beat a really great steak restaurant. The Malones is just that. The steaks, the salads, everything is excellent. Including the service. It's all top-notch. I'm a big fan of the ribeye steaks and theirs are very good. The side dishes are large enough to share. The cream spinach is excellent as well as the lobster mac & cheese. 7/31/17 update I just finished a steak meal at the famous Peter Lugers in Brooklyn and It really makes me appreciate how good Malone's is. I would once again rate Malone's a 9.5 whereas I gave the world famous Peter Lugers a 7.5. The quality of Malone's steaks, the sides, the service are all better at Malone's than anywhere else. Ruth's Chris is probably its equal but its a bit pricier. read more

Every time we're in Lexington, we have to eat at Malone's at least once. The bottomless Lexington salad is awesome. Chopped salad, tomatoes, bacon, it is beyond awesome. i had the 16 oz ribeye with a baked potato. The ribeye was perfect and potato is the best baked potato you're ever going to get in a restaurant. She had the filet medallions, one wrapped in bacon and one topped with crab meat. I don't understand the bad reviews since we've been here at least 7 times and each time it's been outstanding. The ONLY negative i can think of is that the music from Drakes can be heard in the dining room a little bit. read more
