Unfortunately my experience with Mama Cozza's was far from 5 stars. Will definitely not be returning. From reading past reviews it looks like Mama Cozza's used to be an amazing spot. I was super disappointed in our meal here. Our server seemed annoyed and irritated to be there and the food was mediocre at absolute best The Italian salad was swimming in salad dressing and had more toppings than lettuce. The clam chowder tasted old and like flour. The garlic bread didn't taste like much of anything besides toasted old bread and lastly the pizza was so soggy that it fell apart before you even picked it up. read more

The service and ambiance were great but the food was just ok. It's not their fault. I'm sure others really love their food, but to us, it was a little more on the bland side. We had (2) orders of the spaghetti with meat sauce, (1) order of the shells with meat sauce, (1) order of the calamari, (1) order of the spaghetti and meatballs, (1) order of the 14" pepperoni pizza, and (1) order of the stuffed ravioli (mushrooms). Old school since 1965. This restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. We stopped by on a Sunday night and the restaurant was busy but they had plenty of room inside, no waiting to be seated. We ordered the spaghetti plate and split it because we weren't too hungry. The order comes with garlic bread which is okay and the spaghetti tasted fine but nothing spectacular. The interior can be updated a bit with new flooring and wall paper or paint but other than that it retains an old classic feel to it. Went here to get away from the busyness of Disneyland. My son found Mama Cozza's from good reviews on Yelp. Made reservations and when we got there we were seated right away. Alex was our waiter and did an excellent job! We went with the meat lovers pizza a mixed salad for all 5 of us and two pasta dishes. All were very good. They also had some live music going on in the bar area that added a plus to the atmosphere. read more

Food was okay, we were seated with a party of 12 that was screaming or yelling in the same room I was not able to talk to any one on our table because It was so loud. I request the manager multiple time yet I never spoke to a manager no one ever came to our table. We had small children and the large party was using profanity like crazy. The hostess kept apologizing but never attempted to get the manager for us to get a different table. Displace was so disappointing because I did see that guy had a lot of great things to say about it. Specially since I am out of town. I would never go back to this place I felt like I was not taken serious as a customer. Idk if it was because the party of 12 were white and my table were all Mexican. What ever the case is. How does this place have a 3 star rating? I'm so confused. We order this place cold turkey last night FOR DELIVERY and it was insanely good! We had a pasta dish with meatballs and mama sauce. A custom large pizza and a Italian sandwich cold. All of it was insanely good. It's just basic good Italian food. It's not fancy it's not more than it says it is. It's obvious the food is all home made. At least everything ordered. This is officially our new go to Italian spot. I am hoping it will always be at least as good as it was this time. While watching Triple Ds the mister wanted to eat at one. The closest one....Mama Cozzas....located on Ball and Brookhurst in Anaheim with a old school style feel. So it wasn't the best service. It took forever to meet our waitress and service was non-attentive. Here's the thing, they have plenty of servers, yet the service was not as good as it could of been. Maybe I'm just picky on service. It wasn't even that busy inside. However, it may of just been our waitresses style....the waitress tending to the table next to us seemed much more friendly. The pizza was good. Tasted home made unlike those chain conterfits. Sausage, pepperoni over extra sauce, smothered in a blanket of cheese. Highly recommended. I would come back just for the pizza. Super delicious!! The spaghetti with meat sauce with 2 sausages was a winner according to the Mister. But, it needed the sausage to be the real deal. Came with soup, salad and garlic bread. How did this place evade me for so long? I recently heard about Mama Cozza's through a family member who recently visited it and told me it was featured on one of Guy Fieri's shows. I'm admittedly a bit of a snob when it comes to Italian food, but after watching the clip I had to see if all the hype was true. My +1's parents were all in town last weekend and wanted a hearty meal, so off we went. The place isn't hard to find. There's a big sign outside and plenty of parking though the place looked packed. Inside it was your typical Italian restaurant with cozy if not slightly dated decor that someone's Italian grandparents may have bought new. Maybe Mama Cozza picked it all out herself. The lighting was perfect but there was no music playing when I got there, which is fine. Better no music than loud music. Service was fine, though the pacing was off just a bit. Our soup came right away, the salad much later (with the food almost immediately following) and the garlic bread last, halfway through the meal. That's ok, I generally like to save the bread until the end to soak up the leftover sauce on my plate. As for the food...that's where the place really shone. We had to try some of Guy's recommendations. We all got soup and spag with our meals. The minestrone was good, the clam chowder even better, and the salad was what you would expect from a typical garden salad. But the entrees were what made our meals special. My +1's parents ordered the Mama Special pizza (and gave me a slice), and it was amazing. My only complaint is that the cheese is on top, so be careful that everything doesn't slide off the crust (mine did). I ordered linguini with Domery sauce, and couldn't believe I hadn't tried something like it before. Now, I'm typically disappointed by red clam sauce because nothing compares to the way my own mother makes it, though my +1 ordered it and a taste revealed that it was indeed pretty good. But when they added scratch-made sausage and extra garlic...that's where the magic happened. I savored every bite, and used the garlic bread to sop up every last bit of the sauce from my plate. This family restaurant delivers yummy food and outstanding customer service! Mama's has 2 meeting / banquet rooms: 1 small room that holds about 24, and a larger banquet room that can easily seat up to 100. For the retirement party we held in the banquet room there today, family members Connie and Joseph were very accommodating, polite, and hard working. So, in its 10th season, way back in 2010, Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" premiered Mama Cozza's. And among a couple other entrees (including the pizza), the Chicken Pisano and the Domery Sauce were applauded. Usually, I follow Fieri's lead; however, this night I simply ordered spaghetti and meatballs. And it was ok. For me, nothing special. Maybe if I'd tried DDD's picks, I'd feel differently. I mean, like many of the previous reviews, the service is slow. It's good service, just slow. (I don't know, maybe that could be a good thing.) Because I'm just so conflicted about Mama Cozza's. I want to really like it. I do. And I'm sure if I was a long-term local (there were what looked to me like a number of them in either the restaurant or the lounge), then maybe I'd have liked it more. But it's been a long time since it was aired, and things change, you know? To be fair, though, maybe I'll give it another try, and order the Pisano, see what it's all about. We'll see. read more

Mama Cozza, how about some pizza pies? **Italian accent** When you bring about 15 people together to eat, that's the easiest way to order. Oh and a few appetizers here and there too. We started off with meatballs about the size of pool balls and a mixed appetizer plate of fried zucchini, mozzarella, and raviolli with shrimp. All tasted great. Watch out, some of the ravioli's have a slight kick. We didn't know until a few of us bit into them about the same time. Lol I ordered up a calamari, which I really didn't care for. A little rubbery and the tentacles we're a bit hard. Then came out the pizza pies! First out was the pepperoni and cheese. Wish they threw on more pepperoni, but it was a very cheesy pizza! Then came out a pesto with chicken and the Mama's special, which is pretty much a supreme pizza. Last one to come out was the white pizza, and that was a unanimous vote not to ever order that one again. I believe it was a vegetarian type pizza. Obviously we had more carnivores in our party. The pizzas we're pretty standard. Nothing too special about them. Throughout the evening, in our private little area, we were able to enjoy each other's company, talk as loud as we wanted, and order drink after drink after drank. I had a few glasses of red and an old fashion. Definitely wouldn't order the OF again from there. Not sure of the whiskey they use, but that was horrible. Service was great and our server was on top of it. In the end, we all enjoyed our time eating, drinking, and enjoying time to catch up away from the hustle and bustle of work. read more

A very overrated establishment! It may be a bit harsh to be so forthright and blunt but this is certainly how I felt about the food and service here. A few months have passed since my visit and my opinion remains the same. I tried one of their popular sandwiches and it did not meet my expectations of good Italian cuisine. The Meatball and Sausage Sandwich - not on their menu but you can request it for a couple of dollars more at $11 if you like both types of meat on a sandwich - had the potential to be truly delightful. The thick, juicy meats would have made this an ideal sandwich sans the sauce and cheese. There just was not enough of the former and completely missing the latter. The meats were succulent and had a good savoriness. I thought, therefore, it was a shame they were so skimpy on the sauce. And who wants a hot Italian meat sandwich without layers of melted cheese on top? Patrons should expect to have both more sauce and cheese on their sandwich without having to pay for them as an additional topping. What is this, Togo's? Service seemed to be spotty. I felt some of the staff here could have been more warm and friendlier. My sandwich completely missed the mark. I was very disappointed and probably would not make a return visit here to try their other menu items. read more

Father's Day lunch, my brother chose this restaurant. I wasn't thrilled, but figured it had been years since my last visit, maybe things were better. Not so much. - Arrived when they opened, it was dead, yet we ended up being there 2 hours. - Soup was lukewarm. - Bread tasted old and had an odd flavor, like they used Old Bay on it. - My pasta with alfredo came to me like a soup, see the picture. And it had zero flavor, I had to add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Just tasted like a thick cream with a hint of cheese. - My brother's meatball sandwich was visibly burnt. He didn't complain, but I think he is easily impressed. The only highlight was the servers. Our waitress was nice, although slow, but the other guy who was helping us was super friendly and brought us drink refills constantly. Also, this was a $100 lunch for four plates and four teas/sodas - no alcohol. This place is expensive for how crappy the food is. read more

I've seen this on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and had wanted to go but just never did. However, we were craving Italian so the family decided to try it out. We called ahead to see if it was busy. It was cool cause she put our name on the list even though we weren't there yet. Parking is okay, they have more spots in the back and a small one right in front of the restaurant. There is not a lot of light in the back so a little shady but whatever. The restaurant itself looks very...dated. Low light, picture frames, brick, carpet, and simple decorations. It was pretty big though as there were multiple parties having some sort of celebration. However we sat in the first room I guess so we didn't get to hear the live music quite as well. I'll spare you the long review. It come with a ton of food; soup, salad, garlic bread, and then you're entree. I enjoyed the shrimp pasta I got but my sister and dad both complained that the ravioli and meatball was actually, not hot. So that's disappointing. The service was also kinda lacking as if they forgot they had patrons in the front room. It did take us a while to get food, checked up on, and the check. Notable things: -Clam Chowder was really bomb, really thought it was going to be canned. -There was plenty of shrimp in the pasta I ordered. -Leftovers were fantastic the next day. My family has been going to this restaurant going on twenty years now funny that it's taken me this long to leave a review. I love the people I love the food probably 15 lb of my weight is there food LOL kidding not kidding. They have done their best to covid to keep us happy and to still be able to enjoy their wonderful cuisine. The wait staff is always happy to help always has a smile on their face. It is nice to go somewhere where instead of them staying like Olive Garden we treat you like family oh, these people actually look at you as if you are Family from the moment that you walk in the door. We called and placed our order for pick up. One of the pasta dishes had the wrong sauce and was missing sausage. The other pasta dish had only five shrimps and was also missing sausage. The vodka sauce on the pasta tasted bland and like it just came from a glass jar from the store. The pizza was meh and there wasn't enough vodka sauce or salad dressing. Especially for the price, I could've just made pasta at home and it would've tasted much better. When we called to see if anything could be done or what their response was, was just that they would tell the kitchen. Very disappointed and will happily not be going back again. read more

The food was delicious and our waitress amazing. I had the spinach and chicken ravioli with pesto and I would definitely recommend. I also had a bite of my mom's lasagna and it was AMAZING! I usually don't like lasagna but I could totally see myself ordering it. We also got Mama's Special Pizza. It was good but nothing really unique or special about it. We decided to try this place because we saw it on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives. It was not great. Granted, we got it to go and it took us 30min to drive it home, so it wasn't at its freshest. But, we all agreed that it didn't taste like it would've been much better if it were fresh from the kitchen. We all took a few bites of our dishes and decided that was enough, and threw out the rest. They're known for the Domery sauce, which is basically meat sauce and clam sauce combined. It was pretty bad. Overall, this place was bad and cheap Italian food and not worth trying. :/ We did get a free cannoli for ordering online though, so at least there's that. read more

My initial greeting from the hostess was, "How can I help you?" versus "Will this be dine in or carry out?" I ordered the lasagna, house salad with Italian dressing, and garlic bread. The house salad was served with beans which was different. The taste was fair, yet the Italian dressing seemed "watered down." The lasagna was very bland, all I could taste was tomato sauce. Went into Cozza's a couple of weeks ago and had the misfortune of being served by the owner Frank's daughter. Not sure she could try and be more rude or provide worse service if she tried. If I wasn't with family, I would've walked out She's been a fixture forever and it's time to take her horrible attitude and service to some dive on route 66. I read reviews where people say the food is overrated, but with an average rating of 3, that would be the death of most restaurants. I live locally in Anaheim and if this wasn't a neighborhood fixture, it would go under. Food is hit or miss as best, but the service is abysmal. We work too hard for our money to get a grumpy server who clearly is way beyond her prime. read more

First and foremost, come here! It is worth your time to have some really good italian. And I have had some good Italian. From Paesano's, Roma's, Anthony's Italian, Vince's Italian dinner and for whom I know the family immigrated from Italy, Mama Cozza's is still my favorite. I just thank God I do not live here. I would be 300lbs! I have been coming here since the 90's. I cannot even express to you how much I have loved this restaurant over the years. I have had there meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna, and especially the pizza. The ambiance is nothing to write home about. Sure it is dated. It is has not changed much although I remember it befoe it had the back bar area. But that was way back. And do not come to this restaurant if you are think this is a fine dining experience. It is not. Come for the AMAZING food and good wine amd drinks This is a nice restaurant with a family atmosphere. No need to be pretentious. You feel all are welcome here. And prepare to enjoy true Italian cuisine. Enjoy the richness of Mama Sauce, or the creamy Alfredo sauce. And everything is made fresh. Nothing comes from a can of package here. We only tried the Spaghetti, but it was pretty good. We just moved to Anaheim and have been making it a point to try a different place every time we eat out. Today I was in the mood for spaghetti. The place is very "mom & pop" and the decor sort of resembles Bucca di Beppo (for illustration purposes) The staff was friendly and fast. The prices are very reasonable, and the food was good enough to return. We all had the Spaghetti dinner that came with a house salad, soup, and garlic bread for like $12. Just like Gina H. said "slimy red sauce"...no flavor. Tasted just like it was poured out of a can. No seasonings or real flavor. Garlic bread...the same! Where is the garlic? Whoever thinks this is real Italian, has never had any. Olive Garden has better food and I try to stay away from chain restaurants. They do have an extensive menu. I love all the memories I created here throughout the years. So for my 34th birthday I had to come back. It's a monument to Anaheim, and makes me feel right at home. We used to go here often on special occasions as a kid growing up, and I've had plenty of minestrone, delicious salads, pizza, pasta, and Sambuca. Yesterday was no exception.
