    Pork & chives dumplings

I didn't even know Mama Lu's is now in Alhambra! Well, technically, it's quite close to the San Gabriel border. Turned out to be a very nice experience! The restaurant is actually very clean inside, & had a feel of a more upscale restaurant than I expected. Staff here are really very good, very attentive & careful. A big plus, they were very confident that their kitchen did not cross contaminate, so that was a huge relief for me. Forewarned though, if you have peanut allergies, they serve peanuts, & you may need to request for no peanut oil. Food came out piping hot, and everything looked really fresh. We ordered the pea sprouts with garlic. That was a surprisingly large portion! It was enough for us, plus leftovers! You couldn't get that at that other "famous" dumpling place in the mall, lol. Dumplings were good, flavorful without being too salty. I don't know if all the other new locations are good, I will have to try them, but this one has my two thumbs up!

Came here with fam for dinner and on a weekday got seated fairly quickly. Ordered with the server who spoke Mandarin but also understood Canto and English. It's a casual dine-in option that you can absolutely bring family and kids to. The food came out pretty quick. Ordered chow fun, French style beef tenderloin, Xiao long bao and some dumplings, steamed fish, and veggies. Food was pretty good. Some dishes seemed to not be as flavorful while some were a bit disappointing like the Xiao long bao. However, this is all decently priced for dine in. Will certainly come back! This spot has a parking lot behind them. Front street parking is a bit more tricky if crowded.

This Mama Lu's is so tasty and has a nice ambience. All the dishes we ordered were good. The lamb was flavorful, green beans crispy, eggplant soft, chicken tender and juicy, and fish tasty. The presentation was good and portions huge. It is a good price for the amount and quality. The inside is modern and they have a private dining room too. Service was friendly. Bonus is free parking on the side of the restaurant. I would come back and try more !

Nice ambiance inside. The restaurant is huge so can seat large parties. We sat at a small booth for a party of 4 and was given attentive service. The pork xiao long bao was probably the best thing we ordered. Everything else was just ok. Would probably not order the spicy wontons again.. nothing special. The shan jian bao was not bad but no soup inside. The beef rolls were fine -the outer roll was deep fried? It was interesting compared to other restaurants. The food overall was average but if you're looking for a place with no wait times, this is a good option.

My friends and I decided to try the Mama Lu's in Alhambra as it recently opened. We arrived around 7pm and were seated immediately. After we ordered our food everything started coming out. We ordered xiao long bao, honey garlic pork chops, beef roll, green beans with beef, beef chow mein and pan fried pork buns. We liked all the dishes we ordered but thought the chow mein and pork buns were lacking flavor. They have condiments on the tables so you can add some of that to resolve the problem. I like how the xlb had thin wrapping and was filled with soup. The honey garlic pork chops were crispy and the sauce is addicting. The beef rolls were juicy and dripping in its own sauces. They have their own lot next to the restaurant and there is always street parking around the corner. We ordered 6 items since we were hungry but left with 3 things. Bill came out to be about $100.

This is a new location. Plenty of free parking they have their own lot. Inside feels like it's been updated. There's a private room with two round tables plus a smaller table. We got a booth. Free pot of hot tea and sweet and salty peanuts also free arrived. We ordered and portions were good size! I don't like salty so noodles were perfect. String beans were perfectly crisp and pork chops were very crispy! Ordered one bowl rice. We had a lot of leftovers to take home for two more meals! Was going to give four stars because employee was always cleaning mopping floor near our table but hey the cleanser didn't smell too strong so i give 5 stars. The food seems identical. The Pasadena location i prefer it's more modern except you have to park in paid structure.

Wow this location was pretty great. The food came out extremely fast and we tore it up. The standout was the spicy wontons. They were so flavorful and were the perfect consistency. Love mama Lus!!

I don't know what y'all keep raving about Mama Lu's no matter what location. This replaced Jiang Nan which was an absolute gem. The shen jen bao was soggy and oily. Please avoid. The XLB, is mid as it is everywhere other location. Go to thumbling, DTF, 7 grams.... Stop giving people the idea that a franchised dumpling house breeding mediocrity deserves more locations. The noodles lack wok hei, sauce, flavor etc. Two stars was generous on my end, but hey, you do you, if this is your kind of Chinese food, just ignore me.

Similar to the other Mama Lu's other locations. This location doesn't have roast duck. The Garvey location has roast duck. The soupy dumplings always good. The Shanghai rice cake is lighter in color at this location. The steamed chicken with sauce is really good. The lamb with onions had ALOT of onions with alittle lamb. The fried chicken wings were the BEST! They were juicy, crispy, and tasty. The portions at this location seem smaller than the other locations. This location is really loud for some reason. I couldn't hear anyone when we talk med because the restaurant was so loud. Service is like any other Chinese restaurant. No eye contact and no smiles. Happy Mama Luing!

The spicy wontons are a must order, and the Thai tea. No fuss service, straightforward and efficient and the food comes out quickly and hot. Great for groups of 3+ for optimal dish sharing as the portions are large - most have 6 or 8 dumplings! Noticed they were doing a brisk takeout business as well. There is a narrow parking lot, but street parking in the surrounding is also available and plentiful.

Lunar New Year is coming! Struggling to find a family spot that all generations and even your extended family will approve of? Mama Lu's has you covered!! Walking in and seeing the giant xiao long bao mural, we immediately had to order it and it was so fulfilling . Of course, I didn't forget my favorite French-style beef 法式牛柳粒, very juicy and done the Cantonese way. Need a carb that's more special than noodles or rice? The Shanghai rice cakes 上海炒年糕 are the answer . To complete the meal, the older generation always requests the string beans 乾煸四季豆 because no veggies means the meal isn't complete . IG: socalhkfoodies

Loving the new location in Alhambra. Always a fan of Mama Lu's Dumplings House. They're known for their Juicy pork dumpling and other family style entrees. The juicy dumplings and pan fried dumplings are a must to order. Flavor pork fillings. It's absolutely the best. I tried their new item on the menu. golden shrimps. It's similar to walnut shrimps but with wonton chips. Sweet and Sour chicken is one of my favorite and go to. I love the sweet and sour sauce crispy chicken. This location is a lot bigger than the Monterey park Location. It can definitely accommodate large parties. And service is great and quick. I'm already seeing a lot of people coming in for dinner.

I think this is a fairly new location, but this location on Main St, in Alhambra, is great! There's a small parking lot next to their restaurant as well as a small lot directly behind the place, with a rear door access that makes it convenient. Once we went in, we were seated almost immediately. The place has high ceilings and large glass windows on the Main St. side so you get a lot of natural light. The workers are very professional and prompt with their service. Everyone was working really hard to ensure all their guests were being taken care of. After ordering our dishes, the plates arrived and everything was fresh and hot off the pan. We ordered their signature steamed soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, beef wrap, just to name a few. Their tea was also light and flavorful. The tea had a hint of jasmine, which I'm not a fan of, but it was light enough to enjoy. I will come back to this place as it's conveniently located in Alhambra and has dishes everyone likes.

We ordered the spicy braised noodle soup with spicy pickled vegetables on the side, xiao long bao, beef roll, and chili oil shrimp wontons. The spicy braised beef noodle soup was my favorite dish, noodle texture was bouncy and firm as well as that beef being extremely tender. The spicy mustards on the side were quite spicy and a perfect addition to the noodle soup. Xiao long bao was good, filled with a good amount of broth and it came out very quickly. The wrappers were great as none of them even hinted at breaking. Beef roll was good, it was crispy on the outside and the beef portion was good. I did wish they'd add a bit more cilantro and onions but that's a personal preference. Chili oil shrimp wontons were good and had some pork filling as well. Each piece was big and filling, I was only not a fan of the thick wrapper but it was delicious. Would recommend P P Pop, I see why there are so many recommendations to try this place. The most familiar TW dish, beef noodle soup, was also their best item. Loved the flavorful soup. The beef was so tender. Overall I really enjoyed all the dishes here. Dishes were served in short time. Staff members were attentive and provided good enough service. But when it got busy, they started to get little be disorganized. Still highly recommended for trying out the TW dishes.

When you arrive, be sure to write your party size on the sign-in sheet to secure your spot--there often isn't staff at the door to assist, so you'll need to manage it yourself. We visited after a long day and only had to wait about 30 minutes. Overall, the food was pretty average--or "mid," as the kids say--and I didn't feel it lived up to the hype. Here is a breakdown of what we ordered: * #26 Shanghai Style Chow Mein ($13.99): This was the standout. The noodles are thick, almost udon-style, and it's great comfort food. I would definitely come back just for this dish. * #1 XLB Juicy Pork Dumplings ($9.99): These were just okay. Not bad, but not great, and I'd likely choose somewhere else for dumplings next time. * #16 Spicy Wontons with Pork and Shrimp ($11.99): These didn't "wow" me, though I did enjoy the chili oil. I might order these again. * #62 French Style Beef Tenderloin ($17.99): The meat was very soft, but I've had better versions elsewhere, so this will be a skip for me in the future. * #83 House Special Fish Fillet ($15.99): It was very crispy with flaky fish, but the batter was quite heavy. It was enjoyable at first, but I got tired of it quickly. While the Shanghai Style Chow Mein is worth a revisit, nothing else stood out enough to make this a regular spot for us. It's a 3.5/5 experience, but I probably won't be back anytime soon.

(4.5/5) Popcorn Chicken - We got this one mild, and they basically didn't put any spice on it. TBH, it lacked flavor, and besides being pretty crispy, it definitely needed some spice. (3/5) Beef Noodle Soup - It was good and pretty traditional. (4/5) Overall, most of the food was good but not spectacular IMO. It's a solid place to eat if you're looking for pretty good food, and the price isn't too bad! Parking - Now this stings because this lot SUCKS. My husband is from Hong Kong, and our family has visited several times, so the nostalgic ambiance immediately caught our attention. The décor recreates old-school Hong Kong street scenes, especially the late '60s through '90s vibe I remember from HK movies and TV. The antenna TVs and comic-style details are great touches. My only suggestion: add some first-generation brick/murder-weapon-style cordless phones. I know the creators of this place must know what I meant! I asked my husband what "正粉腸" means. He laughed and said I probably don't want to know. I've learned my lesson about being too curious about certain Cantonese words, so I'm going to reap the benefit of not knowing. The menu has only 199 items. We went with HK staples( ok all of them are staple items we just randomly picked a few): shrimp and beef fried rice, chicken fried rice noodles, Hainan chicken, and egg waffles. Everything was flavorful and authentic, with generous portions. Three of us ate, and the leftovers were enough for another meal. The Lemon Black Tea comes with unlimited refills, which we happily took advantage of. Service was efficient and very HK-style. We were seated immediately on a Sunday during lunch, and our food came out quickly once our order was taken. There's also self-check-in online and kiosks at the entrance. Overall, the food, portions, service, and especially the ambiance made this a memorable find. There are plenty of fusion options we haven't tried yet, so we'll have to come back and work our way through the other 190+ items.

Hong Kong Cafe (Atlantic) -- 5/5 9/10/26 -- 2:30 PM --…read moreMonterey Park, CA My God, I'm going to be 300 pounds by the time I get home. Hong Kong Cafe is located at Atlantic Times Square, a charming old-school cluster of shops and restaurants in Monterey Park. Free underground parking was especially appreciated on a roughly 97-degree September afternoon. Getting upstairs was slightly confusing because of construction and a closed escalator, but once we found the restaurant, things improved immediately. The facade is cool, but the interior is even better: spacious, clean, comfortable, with colorful illuminated Chinese and English signs. It has a wonderful classic Hong Kong café atmosphere that reminded me of the 1980s. The mellow Chinese music added greatly to the happy, relaxed vibe. I started with a lemon black tea--sweet, cold and exactly what I wanted on a brutally hot day. The XO sauce beef with udon noodles was excellent. The udon had a terrific pan-fried texture, and the beef had a slightly citrusy note that worked surprisingly well. Then came pure comfort food: the Hong Kong-style ham and egg pineapple bun. It's basically spam, lettuce, tomato, soft French-style scrambled egg and lightly lemony mayo inside a sweet pineapple bun. Nothing complicated, yet somehow the flavors worked beautifully together. It briefly transported me to a Hong Kong Island tea café near Sogo. I was already full. Naturally, I ordered dessert. The Ovaltine French toast was fantastic: thick, fluffy Chinese-style bread, golden outside, properly buttered, with Ovaltine and condensed milk inside. Cutting into it released the filling across the plate and into the cinnamon decoration. Rich, messy and memorable. I ate everything too quickly because it was that good. The large menu also offers plenty of Hong Kong comfort food, including chicken rice, Chinese-style egg and meat dishes, risotto-style dishes, several kinds of juk/congee and much more. Service was prompt, sincere and error-free. This could easily become my Monterey Park go-to for Hong Kong comfort food. Great food, great music, great atmosphere and well beyond my expectations. 5/5. Happily stuffed. 5/5。
