We ordered the sui mai (very large and tasty), juicy pork dumpling (tasty), Seafood Pan Fried Noodles (tasty and I would order again), Green onion pancake (I would not order again.... pricy and too thick), garlic Chinese broccoli (tasty), fillet mignon French style (I would not order this dish again), fish with vegetable (I would order again, tasty), and pork chop with spicy salt (tasty). They have a parking lot and there is also street parking. May this location succeed. I have been to the Monterey Park and City of Industry locations too. read more

The location seems to be new, the interior is clean and nice, my favorite thing was the soup dumplings, I really enjoyed them along with the green beans but the shu Mai and spicy wontons I could pass on, the spicy wontons were really oily too. I was happy to learned there is a new Mama Lu's location in Alhambra. I went to eat there yesterday. We had the soup dumplings (Xiao Long bao); salt and pepper shrimp, seafood chow mein and salted fish with chicken fried rice. Here are my ratings for each dish: 4 stars for Soup dumplings. It was juicy as I had expected. It's not the best I've ever had but quite good. 2 stars for salt and pepper shrimps. This dish did not even looked like the picture on the menu. It was disappointing. I did not like this dish at all 3 stars for seafood chow mein. I liked the type of noodles in this dish. I also liked the varieties of seafood on it. However it lacked taste. It could use some more salt. I don't like too much salt on my food. But this dish is way under salted! At least the seafood tasted fresh. 3 stars for salted fish with chicken fried rice. This dish could also use more salt. It could also use more eggs. I can barely see the eggs on this dish. Overall, it was disappointing. I've been to Mama Lu's in Monterey Park many times and the food was always good at the other location. I like the interior decor of this location. It's new and it's clean. I quickly realized with the food that it was different from authentic Shanghainese even though dish names are alike. Meat filling of the fried buns tasted different: no juice inside but bun was fine. The rice cakes were bit chewy and dry. The sauteed shrimp dish had more broccoli with 12 pieces of medium size shrimp. The best tasting dish was tofu with mushrooms. The rice cakes and buns had bigger serving but the entrees are smaller in size. I would seek out an authentic Shanghainese place for these items next time. Ambiance is very nice, high ceiling and have some dumplings wallpaper all around the restaurant. Much better than the restaurant prior. Service is better than the original one on Garfield and Garvey. But the food is not nearly as good as the original Mama Lu. I'm hoping they will get better at it since they just opened. I'll try again in six month. read more

Carted dim sum which is a fading service for some restaurants. Dim sum was good, definitely recommend the Hong King style noodles. Go during the off hours as it gets crowded during peak hours. They also have a to go counter as well. read more

Disappointed with the food in Alhambra location. We've been to the other locations and while it's not our favorite place...it's still decent. The mapo tofu...couldn't even eat it. On a Monday night in October, I preordered on their website for dinner. It took awhile for me to decide what to eat. I ordered vegetarian fried rice, Mongolian chicken, French style beef. By 5:51pm, my food was already ready. Some of tables were occupied by eaters. The food was cooked freshly made and flavorful. Next time I will try other items. Some of the food went cold as my family and I were waiting for the rest of the food to arrive so we can have one of each plate at the same time, not one plate every 30 minutes. I always love coming to mama lus! It looks like this location is very updated on the inside. Of course the XLB are always my favorite item and never disappoint. I was really surprised by how much i liked the kung pao shrimp as well since it's not usually something I order. I don't usually leave bad reviews but I can't help it today. I haven't had mama Lu in a long while and they took over 江南春 so we just tried for a dinner. Ordered 法式牛柳，生煎包，小籠包，金絲蝦，雜菌玉子豆腐，牛肉捲餅. The worst is 牛肉捲餅 and 生煎包. The others are just so so. Best is dumplings but overall food quality is below average. Will not go back even when I'm hungry :( read more

I didn't expect the food to fall short this much. The xlb is mama lu's staple and when it arrived to us, most of the xlb soup were missing from the xlb. The skin of the wrapper looked pale white. It was something I never expected to see served at any mama lu location. They tasted like supermarket bought xlb. 2/5. The zha jian mien was udon noodles with some meat and peanuts. The best dish out of everything. It had flavor and the only dish we ordered that was good. 5/5 The pan fried dumplings were truly disappointing! It was not fried but soggy and the meat was gray looking. I never seen something like this. It was tasteless, just covered with oil. 0/5 The seafood shrimp wonton noodles were actually not shrimps in the wonton but shrimp paste. The noodles gave off a very intense taste of fishy smell so it was hard to even finish this dish. 1/5. Overall, if you are here for the vibes great! I went today with a friend and they told me no more orange chicken for today . So, I ordered kung Pao chicken instead . The picture on the menu looked a lot better than what I was service. I told the waiter at the end that this dish is not good it has too many onions and did not do anything about it . I was basically served 85 percent onions and the rest was chicken. this location needs to get a better cook if that is the kind of kung Pao chicken you would serve to customers. read more
