Everything about Maman was incredible. The ambiance was 10/10- it was so adorable inside. The service I cannot say enough about. Our server sat us right when we walked in and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our breakfast. He was very patient with us and super friendly. This is my favorite spot in Jersey City. Wonderful food, people, vibe. Today there was a violinist on the waterfront just outside the store. Absolutely magical. I would give Maman a 5-star but for some reason my ratings don't show up in Yelp which can be annoying - they seem to preference lower star ratings which is too bad for Maman (mine show up in the not recommended section). I was so excited to finally try Maman over the holiday break and was beyond disappointed. The service was AWFUL and the staff seemed extremely distracted and just a jumbled mess. After waiting way too long for our omelette they messed up our order, we asked for Tomatoes and cheese and they brought a Ham omelette. When the correct omelette finally came it was extremely dry/ over cooked and wasn't made with fresh tomatoes but rather canned marinated sun-dried tomatoes, a stark difference which should be noted on the menu. None of the staff was apologetic or offered to take it off the bill which is the proper thing to do, I had to request it be removed. They messed up multiple orders at the tables around ours as well. Really sad that we will not be returning despite the beautiful aesthetic. read more

She's completely aloof and on numerous times has messed up my order. I've also had to ask EVERYTIME where my order is and only then do I get it. I can't stand this place. Really bad experience at this Maman location! I like their stuff generally so wanted to try out this spot too. We couldn't get a table so we decided on doing take out. I'd ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, and waited 30 mins after I placed my order. The lady taking orders kept telling me 'It's coming' but couldn't give me an ETA. Eventually, they told me it'll be another 10 mins, so I cancelled it. If they know they're backed up in the kitchen, they should tell the customer upfront, and not waste their time. I would give this place zero star if it was an option. Like other review submitted here, the customer service is really poor. Waiting long to be seated is expected, but the wait is even longer after you have placed your food order, approx 45-1hr. We were placed to share a long table with other customers, everyone is complaining about how long it took Maman to bring them their food. The coffee is also bad, the food is alright. Overall bad experience. Ruinned a good Sunday for me. If you are thinking to come here, think twice. I second all the negative reviews here. The management team needs to step up. Gotta be honest, this place surprised me. I was in Jersey seeing some friends over the weekend and they wanted to meet up here. We tried getting a reservation but after calling were told that it's something they don't do. We were a little disappointed because we've heard how popular the city locations are. So we sped over and after about 5 minutes of waiting we got a table! From the very start this girl spoke to us and was so lovely and welcoming. You walk in and see the flowers hanging from the ceiling, it's gorgeous. In no time at all our server came over, I think his name was John?, and asked us if we had been there before. He explained everything so clearly to us and answered all of our questions. He also gave some amazing recommendations (please try the Katie sandwich with bacon jam!!!!). The staff all seemed like they knew what they were doing, i think there were only 5 people there?, and they were hustling. The food came out in maybe 15-20 minutes, which for brunch is fast, and we all loved it. For me the gazpacho not as much but my friend loved it. Our server was also helping out with a lot of other issues going on so I'm guessing he's the manager but never once left us unattended. Same thing with the other server. I've worked a restaurant job before and it's tough, but they were on top of it. We ended everything by getting some pastries. Seeing as how our server hadn't led us astray before we let him choose some goodies and they did not disappoint. That pistachio croissant is insane!!!! We had a raspberry croissant and the nutty cookie. With how full we were it was a miracle we could finish. They were so good. After we ate we were thinking about writing a review and were shocked to see so many negative reviews! I don't know happened with those people but this place is amazing. Sometimes people just can't be pleased. With the food, the service, the fun jazz music playing and the GORGEOUS view of the city I can let you know this place has a new regular. read more

I love Maman and even own their baseball cap but this place was a total let down. I understand it was 11:30am on a holiday, it still wasn't the service I'm willing to pay $50 for. The cashier seemed unhappy and inattentive, if I said x and y she only enters x and I had to repeat myself one by one to get all the items I wanted. She also got the waiting number mixed up, someone from the kitchen came by to ask what we ordered and still returned with wrong items after half an hour of wait (we had to remind them that we were still waiting for our food). Coffee got cold by the time the food arrived, so I wasn't able to enjoy my pistachio loaf cake with warm flat white. Oh and my husband ordered orange juice, which the manager/owner looking guy told us they were out of it after 30 minutes and he was not even sorry. We got grapefruit juice instead. I'm giving it two stars only because the food still lives up to Maman. I couldn't wait to try this location as it's right in my neighborhood but in my opinion other local cafes do better job than this. read more

I was visiting all the way from California and this spot looked nice and was close by. The ambience of the place is pleasing, the seating, the dishes and presentation of the the food are nice. But what really ruins it is some of the service. The girl at the register who took my very rude. She was not inviting at all, despite my efforts to lighten her mood. She did not smile at all and looked annoyed taking my order. They didn't have a few of the items I was looking forward to trying. I had to choose other options. I may have forgotten to say no bacon on one of those orders that I need to choose another option and so when they brought it, I mentioned that I wanted no bacon and even though I offered to just buy another one, she looked annoyed and said "you didn't tell me no bacon" and gave me difficulty exchanging it even though I offered to buy another one. They did change it without charging me though in the end. Her demeanor was very off putting and I felt as though she maybe was Islamophobic or something....but after reading the other comments, I guess it's not just me. It's just sad, because it ruined the experience...my daughter usually takes photos and posts our traveling experiences, and it really was a beautiful place, but we were no longer in the mood to take pics. After sitting and having the food, I can say the presentation was nice...I like the dishes... the quality and taste was average. The other staff were nicer, especially Gless. He stopped by many times and was very friendly and welcoming and I appreciated that. If only the register person could be more like that, it would be great. read more

The manager has got to go. I used to work in the service industry, so I know how customers can be unreasonable at times. But come on, I've been here 3 times and she is unpleasant to customers and employees. This is what I have witnessed: yelling and hitting an employee on the head, making a pregnant woman wait for a table and refuse to let her grab a chair to sit, and leaving her employees in a rush when they certainly needed her. I had a friend email the company ~3 weeks ago about her yelling at another employee right in front of customers and obviously no actions were taken. If this persists im gonna file an OSHA complaint. Seems like the only way to get their attention is on a public forum. read more

Traveling from Brooklyn to Jersey is never at the top of my list, but catching up with old friends over lunch at Maman proved the hike overwhelmingly worth it! I had the ratatouille hash, was absolutely blown away by the delicious richness and balance, and my friends were similarly excited by their own meals. Our server Joti was wonderfully welcoming, and an instant smash hit with my friend's 2 year old, who was allowed to explore the space freely (without bothering other customers, naturally!). I asked for an iced double espresso with oat milk, guy at counter says so an iced macchiato - great he gets it, or so I thought. I proceed to get a macchiato (in the small hot espresso cup) with ONE ice cube in it.. because that's all there is space for lol... I ask if this is my drink quizzically, and it's confirmed.. so after another blank stare I just leave, throw it out in the trash right outside because I simply do not have the energy to explain what an iced beverage is. Complete waste of 5 bucks, made coffee at my place a couple blocks away instead. Wish I took a picture to send to my friends because it was actually pretty funny after I got over the initial shocking disappointment of it. Giving 3 stars because the barista is very obviously new so the likelihood of this happening again is low, and the choco pistachio croissant was delightful read more
