Maman is a lovely little cafe with a few different locations. I frequented this one in Midtown a few times during my stay in the city. To start, it's super aesthetic. It has the cutest little floral, dainty decor with plenty of people enjoying their coffee at one of the few tables inside. While I'm always suspect of an aesthetic cafe, I have to say, the drinks and pastries did not disappoint. I enjoyed some delicious matcha lattes here and the chocolate chip cookies were really good! I had been going all over the city to try different chocolate chip cookies and this was one of my favorites! I even brought a few home from here to surprise my husband with. You can dine-in or do take out, there is a limited amount of seating, it's a smaller cafe, so artsy and pretty inside. The service was great, they answer any questions you have and great recommendations! We got the quiche, original croissant, ice matcha latte, 2 lattes (1 with lavender simple syrup). The quiche was very flavorful and the croissant was airy just how you would like it. The ice matcha latte was delicious, perfect amount of sweetness. The lattes were good, however I don't recommended adding the lavender simple syrup, it's was a bit different from your typical sweetener, it changes the flavor completely, but if you like lavender try it! There were plenty of food options, from sandwiches, omelettes, wraps, soups and salads. I saw someone eating the waffles and it looks so good. Went to Maman for a mid afternoon pick-me-up and I was not disappointed. I picked a blueberry lavender matcha latte with a pear cardamom turnover. My friend chose a cappuccino with a pistachio chocolate crossaint. Our taste buds were pleasantly amazed by the different and unique taste combinations. My blueberry lavender matcha was topped with fresh lavender. It smelled lovely and the matcha quality was nice and earthy like I would expect from ceremonial grade. I can only speak to three pastry items--we didn't try anything else. Cinnamon bun kouign maman: 9/10; Hands down one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Buttery, chewy, flaky, and deeply cinnamony--it's like a cinnamon roll and a croissant had a baby. Truly the best of both worlds. I knocked off a point because parts of it were clearly overbaked. Still, it tasted better than it looked. Nutty chocolate chip cookie: 7/10; I think I would've enjoyed this more if it only had pecans. Unfortunately, it contained nuts I don't like--walnuts and macadamia nuts. Chocolate chip cookie: 8/10; Culture Espresso still holds the crown, but this was a solid consolation prize. I didn't really know what Maman was about at first, other than noticing through the window that they offered baked goods, coffee, tea, soups, and salads. I decided to stop in and try one of their sandwiches, specifically the Martha Stewart's Chicken Salad Sandwich, since it caught my eye. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. We were looking for a quick meal before heading out and stumbled upon this place. It's a cute cafe with nice decorations and limited indoor seating. There were breakfast and lunch options to choose from, including drinks and pastries. You order and pay at the counter first, then are provided a number for your table. It was an open seating concept so table availability was limited since it was busy. Mediterranean harvest bowl 2/5: The dish was super salty, especially the roasted peppers and cheese. The hummus, chickpea, and sweet potatoes were okay. Nothing special. It came two halves of pressed toast. I was expecting the food to come out somewhat warm but it tasted like everything was thrown together straight from the fridge. Breakfast bowl 2.5/5: The candied bacon did not complement the dish and was too sweet. The potatoes were quite salty. Added an egg but it was overpriced at $3. Chocolate chip nut cookie 4/5: The cookie was good with crispy edges and a slightly soft center. Good amount of chocolate chips included. Came to Maman for breakfast after Lady Gaga's concert the night before and it was such a great choice! I had the steak sandwich and an iced vanilla latte -- both were excellent. The sandwich was flavorful and filling without being too heavy, and the latte had just the right amount of sweetness. After eating, we decided to try the papaya drink and it was absolutely delicious, super refreshing and unique. The ambience is cozy and welcoming, with a relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay a while. The staff were all so friendly and attentive, which really added to the experience. This was unexpected suprise when looking for madman coffee which is also five star location, I stumbled in MAMAN. Wait! Two places with excellent yelp reviews and the only difference is one letter in the name LOLOL. Anyway, this is a much different experience from madman, less casual and more formal. Lots of French style pastries and specialty items. Prices were a bit higher. Could find a special treat for that business meeting or customer meet up. Like other reviewers, we stopped here before going out for a day exploring. A bright spot was the staff, and that ends there, unfortunately. I ordered a potato-based scramble and it was clear that the potatoes were not fresh, and likely prepared the previous day and refrigerated overnight. My in-laws do this to save leftovers. I know this taste and texture. It, not surprisingly, tasted like leftovers with a fresh avocado on it. My wife's avocado smash was generally good, but lacked seasoning. To be fair, it's served with red pepper flakes and sea salt flakes so while she was able to add seasoning plus salt. The restaurant is well worn, including the bathrooms. This place would benefit from basic repairs and painting. I share this in the spirit of (hopefully) helpful information for maman. These are fixable issues, but it does create pause before i would try maman again. read more

One of my favorite bakery/coffee shops in NYC! This laptop free, conversational coffee shop is right next to grand central, a perfect place to kill time before your trip or grab a pastry and coffee. I had one of Oprah's favorite chocolate chip cookies here and it was delicious. Crispy exterior and chewy interior with macadamia nuts and chocolate, I would argue that this is one of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city, Oprah has good taste. The coffee is also really good and you have to order one of their pistachio chocolate croissants. It tasted like a pan au chocolate with an extra layer of pistachio butter. So delicious. I'm somewhat familiar with maman as there is one in the Helmsley Building which in turn is close to Grand Central and my office. I had been to that location before and while I don't feel their pastries and coffee are anything to write home about, it's also not bad - solid offerings. Anyway, I was on 44th with some of my colleagues and we were looking for a little pick-me-up. Lo and behold we found this maman, so off we went. Walking in, I was greeted immediately by the ordering counter, with a small fridge to the right with some grab-and-gos and seating to the left. The counter had a good selection on pastry on display, but I wasn't in the mood for sweets and opted for a beverage. A cappuccino was calling my name, so I went with that. Overall it was good, again nothing too outstanding but some solid sips. Service was good, everyone we interacted with was friendly and my cappuccino was ready relatively quickly. Note this is a laptop-free cafe, which prompts conversation if you decide to sit but also means don't hang out here all day ;-). Overall, I had a fine experience at maman - I wouldn't be against returning for some more coffee and perhaps some bakes. read more

Cute cafe with delicious pastries. I ordered a pistachio chocolate croissant that was out of this world! Melt in your mouth delicious. I also got a Cortado with Oatmilk. The Cortado was a bit too bitter, that was my only complaint. Glad I stopped in, and will definitely come back next time I'm in the city. Those were overcooked and chopped up in the style of the cheapest corner deli. For more than $30 it was completely overpriced. I love maman and often frequent their locations around the city. Today I was picking up my Mealpal from this location and I saw something disturbing in the kitchen. The woman preparing the food was wearing no gloves while making sandwiches. I saw her spreading jam on bread and then lick her fingers when done. I was so disgusted I just threw away the sandwich altogether, so now I wasted time and money going to pick up a meal I could not eat anyway. I hope management will see this review and do something to enforce better hygiene practices. read more
