Sat on the patio. It was covered and cool. The food was amazing. I had the Athenian chicken which was fresh and filling. Also had dolmades which I prefer hot, but they were still good. The server was attentive without being obtrusive. We would come back!!

Mamma's Kitchen in Alexandria is the kind of spot that makes you feel like you've stumbled onto something special. The pizza is a perfect example--thin, crisp crust baked in a real brick oven, with fresh tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and basil that's actually fragrant. It's simple, clean, and exactly how a Margherita pizza should be made, no shortcuts, no greasy mess, just real-deal flavor. Then there's the fried calamari. Light, crispy, and clearly fresh. Not rubbery, not overly breaded. Just golden and tender with a nice lemony bite and two sauces that actually add something. But the real MVP is the spicy feta dip. It's rich, a little tangy, with the perfect amount of heat, and when you scoop it with that warm, pillowy pita, it's addictive. You can taste that the food here comes from tradition, not trends. When you combine that with the breathtaking garden setting outside, this place is a must-go.

This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside as it's right next to Richmond Highway/US 1, but it was surprisingly very nice inside and on the outdoor patio. Can't complain about the service, the waitresses were nice and the food came out pretty quickly but the food itself was my favorite part. If you get an entree, you also get some bread and a side salad, and the Greek salad came with this delicious dressing. The olive oil in it tasted very fresh (and they do sell olive oil next door) and it was good to dip the bread in as well. We got the eggplant dish which was like a Mediterranean take on Eggplant Parmesan and it was very tasty. The menu was more on the Italian side than Mediterranean, with pastas, pizzas, and sandwiches being the main components but the Mediterranean sides and aspects were delicious. I wish I saw this restaurant sooner!

Had a wonderful first experience here tonight. It was a beautiful day and we really wanted to enjoy some outside patio seating. We've been meaning to check it out and I'm so glad we did. We arrived around 4:45 and despite being a beautiful busy day there was still room on the patio. Lots of outside tables and a beautiful gazebo, vinery patio. Service was fast and friendly. Prices seemed fair. Food was fresh and fast. Def coming back to try the pasta and pie. Dessert also looked yummy!

We came here on a quiet Tuesday afternoon! The service was great. We ordered a few appetizers options to share, my husband and I. Amazing dips options, one of the best gyros I've ever had. The patio the biggest surprise.

    Fried Calamari

This was our first time at this restaurant and will be our last as it was an overall disappointing dining experience. We started off with fountain drinks and mine arrived with a fruit fly floating in the top, not a great start but it was quickly replaced. The calamari appetizer was fine, very small rings though they were tasty and not chewy. The real disappointment was the entrees. The Reuben Sandwich consisted of literally two slices of what looked like lunch meat, a slice of cheese, and a spoonful of sauerkraut. It was like a high school cafeteria version of a Reuben. I asked if that was normal and the waitress didn't know, but took it back to the kitchen where they appeared to add an additional slice of meat, even then it was still the saddest Reuben I've ever had. We also ordered the Beef Kebabs, which were average and definitely not worth $31 when you can get a nice 8oz steak for that price. Note the prices are significantly higher than what is listed here under popular dishes, the actual prices were $16 for Calamari, $15 for Rueben, and $31 for the Beef Kebabs. So for a $75 meal (before tip), I had much higher expectations of portion size and quality, both of which were lacking. There are many other options for good Italian/Greek/American food in Alexandria, spend your money somewhere else.

Upon arrival there was a minimal wait however the staff did not acknowledge me or my daughter as we waited for the hostess. The hostess was very pleasant. We were seated at a booth on the inside and the ambiance was very inviting. We had grape leaves for an appetizer. The were really good. For my entree I had the lasagne. It was not good at all. It tasted burnt but at the same time it was very bland. My daughter had the kid's Alfredo. She said it was very good. The sauce thick like she liked it. Because we are both pizza lovers we each got a pizza. She ordered a regular cheese and added pesto. I ordered the meat lovers and added onions. I absolutely loved the crispness of the thin crust. My daughter LOVED her pizza as well. I will definitely come back but only for the pizza. When I told the waitress that I didn't like the lasagna she was very accommodating. She offered to give me a kids sized spaghetti to try. I loved her service

Friendly staff hidden food gem in the cut in an off the beaten path in the Groveton area of Alexandria. Love the outdoor patio. Food was fresh and tasty. I know they own the olive oil store next door so I was surprised when they didn't offer the oils with the breads. Would have been nice to sample first hand.

That said, it was so dark that reading the menu became a challenge. The service was okay. Our server was attentive enough, but seemed distracted and a bit lukewarm throughout the meal. Nothing bad, just not particularly engaging. The food was good, though not quite great. The pasta was a little more al dente than I prefer, but everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The menu is small, but offers solid options that are thoughtfully executed. There was a single strand of hair in my salad but that's actual minor... folks freak out but a little education, Low bacteria risk & Minimal physical hazard. Maybe just have staff take extra care. The restaurant was clean as was the staff and service so not a huge deal breaker for me. For me, the location and atmosphere are a 5-star experience, and the food itself is probably a 4-star. Unfortunately, the biggest issue was the temperature inside the restaurant. It was absolutely freezing. We couldn't fully enjoy our meal because we were so cold, and our food cooled off quickly as a result. Because of that, I'd have to give this visit 3 though I would make this 3.5 stars overall. There is definitely potential here, and I would be willing to give it another shot. Next time, I might try sitting at the bar instead of the dining area and see if the experience feels more complete, less cold. The winners for me: Mushroom Bruschetta 10/10 Caesar Salad 8/10 no hair would have been 10 Meatballs 6.5/10 only because sauce was a little too acidic for me, but still tasty. The handmade pasta was fabulous, I love the authenticity and offerings.

I expected longer wait times for seating and food, and I was prepared to be patient. However, what I did not anticipate was a complete breakdown in both front-of-house and back-of-house operations. Having worked in the restaurant industry, it was clear that the issues extended beyond the kitchen. A back-of-house "crash" of this magnitude is typically the result of broader operational failures, including front-of-house management. It appeared that reservations were significantly overbooked without adequate planning for the volume. On a day like Mother's Day, full capacity should be expected, and systems should be in place to manage that demand effectively. At a minimum, there should have been proactive communication with guests regarding delays, allowing them the option to adjust their plans. Additionally, basic service standards--such as keeping water glasses filled and bread baskets stocked--were not maintained. The serving staff seemed overwhelmed and unsupported, which ultimately reflects a lack of clear direction from management. During our visit, we even observed a large party leave due to the experience. I genuinely felt for our server, who appeared to be doing their best under difficult circumstances. Without directly requesting specific items and even ordering from the bar myself, the experience would have been significantly worse. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations either. The seafood pasta, in particular, was underwhelming in both quality and presentation--featuring minimal seafood and inconsistent preparation. At the price point, I would expect a much higher standard. The chicken Parmesan felt like cardboard and was just as thin. The cod with peas tasted exactly like the frozen cod I get from Costco. Calamari never came, which we had no idea about. No option to get anything else. If the restaurant does not have the infrastructure to handle high-volume days at a consistent level of quality, it may be worth reconsidering reservation limits or adjusting service expectations accordingly. While I understand the desire to maximize business on a busy holiday, the long-term impact of disappointed guests may outweigh the short-term gains. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as no guest should have the experience we did. And no we did not accept any free dessert, which I felt was a completely tone def to the experience we had.

Lucky for us, it was Macaroni Monday, where several of Corso's pastas are available for just $15. An excellent deal and we really liked what we got (the lobster ravioli and the white pesto rigatoni). That wonderful first experience is what made me return again recently. I once again had a great time. This time I got the white pesto rigatoni and the chicken fettucine alfredo. Unfortunately, that was the only acknowledgment I received for the rest of the evening, which was a little disappointing for a special occasion dinner. Since my birthday fell on a Wednesday, we decided to try their date night deal and added a few appetizers. The arancini was exactly what you want from a classic arancini. Crispy on the outside, cheesy on the inside, and packed with flavor. Absolutely delicious. I ordered the Vodka Parm and honestly found it underwhelming. The sauce tasted much more like a standard marinara than a vodka sauce, and the spaghetti itself was completely lacking seasoning. Meanwhile, my partner ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, and his dish was fantastic. The meatballs were flavorful, the sauce had depth, and overall it was a much better execution. The standout dish of the entire night was easily the gamberi fritti. The shrimp was fried perfectly, and the sauce with the lemon, garlic, and aromatics was unbelievable. I would genuinely return for that dish alone. To end the night, we had the tiramisu and it was excellent. Drinks throughout the evening were also very well done. We tried a mix from both the seasonal and classic cocktail menus and enjoyed everything we ordered. Service overall was just okay. Beyond the initial greeting, no one really made me feel celebrated for my birthday. At one point I also asked to switch from tap water to bottled water, but the server never returned with it, so I just stuck to cocktails for the remainder of dinner. Despite the inconsistencies, there were enough highlights that I'd still be willing to come back and give Corso Italian another shot.

It's always been our favorite spot, not just for us but also to recommend to visitors. However, in the last couple of months we've seen that many of our all-time favorites (Tammy and Tommy, most notably) have apparently been "let go" after years and years of loyal service. Not only are we heartbroken, but their loss is evident in the decline in service seen across the restaurant and bar. Truly, if Susan weren't still there I'm not sure we would have kept coming back in the last few months. Additionally, we've been bringing our now 10-month-old daughter to Landini's since she was born; she made her first visit at just 8 days old, and it was a celebration for us: our new daughter, our family, celebrating her arrival in our favorite spot in Old Town. However, we were told just the other night that we are no longer "allowed" to be at the bar with her--in her carrier, as an infant (and myself as a breast-feeding mother, no less)--due to new rules/policies implemented by the new management. Keep in mind that this is the same management who made the brilliant choice to fire many of the best people at Landini's (and also we have gathered that this new management was taken from the Cheesecake Factory...seriously???). No other restaurant in all of Old Town has this issue, and I think it's unlikely that we return to Landini's. By firing excellent and loyal staff, jacking up the price of entrees and drinks exorbitantly, and making it so that (local!) families no longer feel comfortable and welcome at a decades-old family-run establishment...needless to say, I hope it's worth it for those at the top of the pyramid and that they're happy with their Cheesecake Factory-level of service.
