    Pad See Ew
    Kaelyn K.

Dishes were delicious. We actually ordered a total of 4 dishes and shared it between 4 people and it was still enough. We had a little bit leftover to take home. The papaya salad was nice and crunchy and perfect for a summery hot day. The soft shell crab was spicy but tasty. Perfect crunch and easy to eat. The pad see ew was flavorful and the vegetables were the perfect bite size pieces. We did have to get on the waitlist which was easy to do via yelp. Just make sure your whole party is there beforehand. The hostess was a little rude to us when we were first checking in and rude about telling us that we needed the whole party present. But we did not let her take away from our experience. It was slightly loud but the restaurant was also very busy and packed for the dinner rush, so understandable. The food was overall great and the waitress was nice and accommodating.

I've constantly heard good things about this place and finally was able to check it out. The wait was about an hour long, but thankfully we were able to sign up on Yelp and drove once we got to the top of the waitlist. The interior of this place is modern. They definitely go for an elevated look. However, the food was disappointing and caters to a more general audience. I've been to Thailand, Thai restaurants including the ones in LA Thai Town and a couple local Thai template markets. This place definitely fall shorts. Khao soi with braised beef - it was highly recommended on Yelp. The broth was good but nothing amazing. If you go to Chiang Mai, it's typically eaten with chicken, but I wanted to try it with beef. Although the meat is tender, the beef and khao soi is not a good pairing. Chicken will usually bring out the broth flavor, while the beef and broth were competing with each other. I also wished they had more pickled mustard green to balance out the dish. Boat noodle - not bad, but not amazing. It was on the sweeter side and I was expecting it to have a nice kick with some texture to it. It had more of a smooth broth, but I prefer a slightly more gritty texture and with dry chili pepper. My friends ordered the chicken skewers (they liked this the most), pad see ew with crispy pork belly and the basil dish. I tried a bit of the crispy pork belly and it tasted like it was out the whole day, not crispy at all. Sadly I will not be coming back and will not be bringing my friends here. I left slightly embarrassed that I recommended this place to my out of town friends.

Big bold favors Everything we had was great except the prawns, it's kind of sad and limpy you know it's bad when you are a seafood lover But other dishes were great with many dimensions and depth of favors. My palate was having a party Love the interesting beer the smell was great and refreshing

We came around 1pm on a Monday. The parking lot is small but there is street side parking. The wait was around 10 minutes for walk in. We were seated and the plates and utensils were nice. I like the bowls that had finger indents. The bathroom is noice, cute wallpaper. Cal soft shell crab- very delicious! The curry was creamy and full of flavor. With the soft shell crabs they were generous! Pork basil rice- The pork had just the right amount of saltiness and the fried egg was good! The rice was extra good mixed with the sauce/curry from the cal soft shell crabs. Coconut mochi with ice cream- the mochi (rice ball) has great texture. The ice cream is a little tough but carries the dish (makes it a thick dessert). The coconut shavings adds to the texture. Could be colder. Overall a good dessert. We had a great meal and would definitely go again!

I've long desired to dine here at Manaao; we decided to chance it on a weekday afternoon. Checking in on Yelp is so convenient and efficient! While I'm not a regular beer drinker, I was intrigued when I saw Mango Sticky Rice Beer ($10) -- I enjoyed it! Our first visit consisted of the following: - Drunken Noodle (with beef), $19: tasty broad rice noodles with tender slices of beef, in a flavorful sauce; - Holy Basil and Chili (with ground pork), $19: served with a generous mound of steamed rice, topped with a perfectly fried egg; - Sweet Roti, $8: theirs is uniquely dusted with a Chocolate Malt Powder -- delicious finale! The entire staff -- working as a team -- was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Fabulous experience; we're eager to return to experience many more of their menu items!

I came here for lunch at 11am on Monday. Parking was easy and we were seated right away. We ordered the Khao Soi Noodles with chicken. It was flavorful and tasty. The only thing I didn't care for was the crispy noodles. 5/5 stars The Thai crab cake rolls came with 4 pieces. It's big and hearty. It's good but not very special. I'd give it 3/5 stars. The creamy tom yum soup was full of flavor. Mild spice was pretty mild. We didn't know it came with noodles so by the time we scooped some, it got soggy so that was annoying. I would have preferred more broth and omitted the noodles. It was tasty otherwise. 4/5 noodles. It's clean and modern and most importantly authentic. I would definitely recommend it!

Biggest tip is to make a reservation on Yelp before heading over! This place can get quite packed, and I've had to wait anywhere from an hr to 15 min to get a table. The food is amazing, and they have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. My favorite was the fried catfish curry!

3.5/5 stars. Came here for dinner and luckily I put my name on the waitlist because the wait was 1.5 hours on a Friday. I got the braised pork leg over rice ($22) and my husband got the soft shell crab with curry powder ($32) and the grilled giant river prawn ($15). We also got the pad Thai with shrimp ($22) to share with our friends. My faves were the pad Thai and the giant river prawn. You can't go wrong with pad thai! It had a great texture/flavor and I liked the cup with the crushed peanuts! The giant river prawn was unique and had a strong seafood flavor and was tender. The braised pork leg was ok - it wasn't super tender and was too fatty. The soft shell crab wasn't great either - it had way too much batter. Overall, I didn't think this place was worth the long wait. Quality was ok so it felt overhyped in my opinion.

WELL HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME... my stomach feels like it's about to burst outta my jeans. every day feels like my birthday when I'm eating Thai curry, so naturally I NEEDED to try this place after seeing the absurdly long lines outside. yea i'll drive an hour from the ie for food, and yes best decusion ever. first of all the SERVICE is incredible, the food came out insanely quick (we're talkin under 10 mins) and they even gave me a free coconut ice cream for my birthday AWWW LOOK ITS SO PRETTY and covered in coffee jelly, mochi, popping boba UGHHH!! I forced it down out of sheer appreciation after the absurd amount i had already eaten. i ordered the khao soi noodle with braised beef, and it was absolutely delicious. i usually get curry with rice, but this broth was more savory, the perfect amount of spice, and the beef melted in my mouth omfg i'm drooling. the panang curry had a spicier kick and was more peanut butter forward than what i'm used to, but still YUMMM. plus the price is great... yall WILL catch me back here god i love oc

Having had seen and heard about this place for the past couple of years but never having the patience to stand and wait for 60-90 min for a table.. I finally got to try some via delivery, ordered straight from their website. We waited in the comfort of a couch for something that took 20-30 minutes past the eta and the food arrived with no napkins or utensils. What was great is nothing spilled and our orders were correct. As for the food, we are more disappointed as vegetarians than meat eaters, I'm sure it'd been a much different mouth experience. But the eggplant in the green curry was weird and the tofu in the curry and soups are lazy and soft. Cubed out of the package and thrown into the soups. The crispy tofus in the pad Thai were somehow too tiny, baffling and not mind blowing. Anyhow.. the crazy wait time does not equate to how the food tasted but maybe opening a second location will help. But their signature curry noodle soup with the crispy fried noodle in addition is pretty addictive fresh. Cause who doesn't love a nest of crispy noodle soaking up Thai curry?! Other than that I don't care how full I am, I'm not lining up here for 45 minutes just to get hungry.

This is based on my recent visit after my 1st visit last year. Pros: - Good portion for the price. Our food came out quickly! - It looks like they upsized the place. The last visit I did, the place was half of the size of the current space. The place is clean and bright. - The ladies were attentive. Cons: - I raved about this place to my parents and I honestly felt like the quality wasn't the same as before.. - Wait time can be long so I highly recommend coming in right when they open. - Parking is a bit of a hassle even right when they open. I just feel like it doesn't really live up to the hype anymore. The flavors aren't as bold as how I remember them to be..

Starting off by saying this: This is the first Thai restaurant that I have visited and does not offer chicken as an option for their pad Thai. Ordered the shrimp Pad Thai which was still flavorful but the noodles tasted overcooked. Our table ordered three of them on accident, so when we tried to change the order to at least only two , they said we could not because they were already being made . So unfortunately we settled with three pad Thai plates of shrimp, nothing could be done it seems (and no one took a pic of those plates ) . Their pad see ew is great though. Their lowest level of spice is perfect for me ( I'm not big on hot/spicy) . You can order higher level if you'd like though. The crying tiger was ok, nothing stood out compared to others at different Thai restaurants, but still tasteful. Inside is a vibrant and modern noise vibe. When you arrive at the restaurant, there will be a check in process on an iPad. They do seem to get really busy, we were fortunate to have arrived right before it got busy which was around 12pm I was hoping staff there could be more helpful. Overall, they were friendly. Personally: not my favorite or in a hurry to go visit again.

I am SO blown away by this place. Been recommending it ever since I left. Best pad thai i've ever eaten, and the khao soo soft shell crab is a must.

    Is there halal food?

Our apologies, we don’t have halal offerings.

Noticed the Fried Chicken Wings (Gai Tod) are no longer gluten free. Will the gai tod be gluten free again?

Hi Trevor! Great question- we’ve recently had to rework our gluten free items as we’ve realized the risk for cross contamination on fried items (despite having separate fryers) is just too high. At this time we don’t anticipate them coming back, but…

Is the KHAO SOI NOODLE vegetarian?

    No, it is not.

Can we bring a birthday cake into the restaurant?

Birthday cake is welcome but no other outside desserts.

Do you take reservations for 12 people?

We don’t take reservations, but we’re happy to accommodate a party of 12. Please email hello@eatmanaao.com so we can help guide you.

Can we bring our own wine?

    Sure! Our corkage is $20

    Do you have takeout?

Yes, it’s available via our website or on a walk-in basis during operating hours.

Do you have any lunch specials or combination plates?

No, but we are family-style so our dishes are perfect for sharing amongst a few people, making it easy to try a few things.

Are people able to make a reservation ahead of time?

No. But you can use Yelp to get on the wait-list.

Does the waitlist open again during your second service hours?

Yes, it is closed mid day while we are on break and the dinner list is separate from the lunch time list.

If the waitlist is closed on yelp can I still come in person to join the waitlist ? Or does it mean we just can't get it today? Thanks!

Hi! If the waitlist is closed it means we’re at capacity and won’t be able to serve any more than the guests on the list before the end of business. There is a chance we may…

Hello! Do you offer chicken options with the curries and noodles? On the menu I only see beef/pork/shrimp/tofu for the noodles and many of the curries.

Dishes that have chicken as an option are marked on the menu as such. We do not offer chicken on dishes such as pad thai or curries.

Where can we sign up for the waitlist?

We use the waitlist tool within Yelp. The waitlist opens once we have begun service and all in-person waiting tables have been seated, and we close the list once it exceeds our ability to serve tables before closing time.

It seems that your vegan options are only desserts according your online menu?

Hi Debbie! We're proud to offer a selection of dishes that can be made vegan upon request. Our print menu denotes these dishes with a green leaf- it includes drunken noodles, holy basil and chili, stir-fried Chinese broccoli, stir-fried morning…

I'm vegetarian, do you guys able to modify the pad see ew to without shrimp or beef?

Hi Chloe! We can substitute tofu for many dishes, including our Pad See Ew! Just let your server know and they’ll help you. Please do note that it may change the consistency of some dishes (as tofu does contain a good amount of moisture).

Do you offer gluten free and accommodate nut and sesame allergies?

Fish sauce is in a large number of our dishes, so the chance for cross-contamination is possible, however, we're happy to offer quite a few gluten-free options (listed on our menu). We do use nuts and sesame in our kitchen, so the risk for…

Is this the same owner as the Manao in Long Beach on broadway?

No, we are different owners and companies.

Will you be offering more vegetarian/vegan options on your menu such as tofu protein options in the future?

The menu is a soft opening menu. The full menu should be available soon.

There's plenty of parking in the shopping center, but finding a spot immediately in front of the restaurant can be a bit challenging since you're competing with customers from several nearby restaurants and a coffee shop. We ordered and noticed people who were seated much later than us got their food already. Another server who brought food to the table next to us noticed us and asked if we got our food yet. He double checked for us and main server hadn't sent our order to the kitchen. We had already waited 25 minutes in addition after placing our order. Our order came out very quickly after the realization. Unfortunately the lemon salmon sushi roll that came out seemed incredibly rushed. The roll wasn't tucked in so each piece we grabbed broke apart. The fried squid legs were good. The udon texture was good, but by the time our food came out, we weren't in the best mood. All the waiting and lack of service ruined our appetite. The 2nd server gave us a bag of salted noodle toppings to-go as a solace for the bad service? Though this location is bigger than the original, I'll be going to the Costa Mesa restaurant for better service.
