I had bookmarked this business after seeing a video on it online. So when a friend and I were looking for someplace new to try, I mentioned this one and it happened to be on her radar as well. I didn't realize that it was the same business that is opening soon in Irvine. I also didn't realize that it was extremely popular. My friend asked me to save her a seat and get in as she was running a few minutes late, but I observed that the business was closed for lunch between 3:00-4:30 and there was a kiosk outside to get on the wait list. Uh oh. Luckily there was only one party ahead of me and as I was signing us in, I noticed many parties getting out of cars and walking up. Anxiety initiated. I signed us in and sat down. Luckily we were able to be seated quickly. I ordered a hot jasmine green tea. I really, really wanted to try the crispy shrimp cake rolls, and was immediately informed that they were out of them. I was very bummed about this. The server suggested the soft shell crab if we were looking for something crispy. We ordered that and I ordered the pad thai with shrimp and my friend ordered the green curry. Oddly, the crab came out slightly after our entrees, but close together. We dug into everything. The crab was delicious and tender, but had a spicy rub seasoning on the outside of it. My pad thai was very good and the serving size was large. It was very good. My friend enjoyed her green curry as well. I tried a taste of it. It was quite tasty, but had a kick. We were checked on many, many times, and our waters were constantly refilled which was appreciated. I was even offered more hot water for my tea. By the time we left, the business was completely full. I would definitely come back and try more options, but I do know how popular they are now. Note: The full party has to be there to sit down. Not my first time here but first time ordering a few of these dishes. Tried khao soi with braised for the first time. The curry base is good but I wasn't a fan of the noodles. Second time we came to Manaao and are pleased with their food. We came for dinner and arrived before 5 pm. There was no wait at that time. However, by the time we left, there were lots of people waiting to be seated. My favorite dish is the fried rice with crab meat. We will come back again to try other dishes. The food is amazing here. We went on a rainy day day on Saturday, and it was the perfect meal. Service was great, the servers are very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is very nice and warm. After looking at the menu more closely, it turns out there were a couple more vegetarian options we missed, so we'll definitely be back to try those. Thank goodness theres a Yelp Waitlist bc this place gets verrrry busy. We were driving from SGV and you can only be in a 10 mile radius in order to get on the waitlist (reasonable lol), but with these wait times, they should extend it to 15 miles tbh haha. Parking is also pretty crowded here, so you're likely to find parking by the street. So good thing we got on the waitlist bc we waited 20 mins when we got there? There were many big parties ahead of us, and we were just a party of two. So we were able to get seated faster. Service is quick and efficient here. They got a lime theme going on here, which I'm sure Manao means 'lime'. It's actually interesting they use lime on EVERYTHING. We got to order a good amount of entrees of us two. We got the crab fried rice, roti green curry w rib eye, and the spicy chicken wings. We also go the singha (sparkling water) and green thai tea as our beverages. Food came out pretty quickly! We first got started with the roti green curry, which was pretty nice! It's nice they gave a good amount of roti with this. Went to celebrate my birthday, and wow the service here was amazing. Some places have charged a cake cutting fee but this place did not. Food was amazing too, honestly got it for take out and thought it was alright, but wanted to try it in person and it does taste a lot better. My favorite Thai place ever! Found it through an influencer so I was a bit skeptical at first but was very happy to end up loving everything I've ordered here. I've been here a few times now and definitely a go to is the iPad see we. Probably my favorite one as it has the right amount of sweetness and overall flavor, good amount of Chinese broccoli and portion is fair for the price. I've tried their pad thai, crying to get, pork jowl appetizer, boat noodle and one of their hot pots (forgot the name but it's tomato based and SPICY). Everything has been good and consistent each time! Food comes out fast too and hot which is so nice. Service is fine but they're really busy every time we go here. My favorite Thai spot. I've had Manaao over 5+ times now, each time introducing new friends and family to the amazing dishes. The wait times can be long but it's worth it. I have yet to try a dish I dislike, though there are some better ones than others. There's a reason why all the photos on Yelp are of the Khao soi - this is a must-have. I've tried the beef and chicken, both solid. Chicken was surprisingly tender and juicy. The papaya salad, pad see ew, rad na, grilled pork jowl, crab fried rice are all SOLID. The pad thai and drunken noodles were good. I've had better elsewhere but depending on where you're from, these are better than average (decent in LA/OC but above average in IE). Their spice levels are legit. A medium spice has a considerable kick. It is unlike ordering medium spice at Americanized Asian fusion restaurants. They have some very interesting beers - we tried the mango sticky rice and tom yum beers, tasted just like it! We got on the waitlist on a Thursday at 5pm for a party of 8 and it took about 50 minutes to get to the front of the waitlist, but upon check in with our full party, we waited an additional 40 minutes to be seated since the table was not ready yet, which was a bit frustrating since we could see large empty tables (that ended up being our table). We came 30 minutes early because we heard that it gets super busy and the wait can be crazy. We sat by the benches and waited for the staff to take the iPad out. I think it came out about 10 minutes before they opened. We were the second in line and we waited about another 2-5 minutes once they opened to have us seated. Also, they're like clockwork. Everything was on time and organized. People were seated, orders taken and food came out efficiently. They were also all so friendly. The decorations on the wall were big and bold and so were the outfits, just like the flavors of their dishes. We ordered the drunken noodles with roasted pork, level medium, the Panang curry with shrimp with roti, level medium and northern sausage fried rice. The noodles were a little more spicy than we expected and to me, it was a little bit softer than I liked. The roast pork was cooked well and it had the crunch. I think this was our least favorite dish, but it was still good. The curry was delicious. It had so many flavors going on and it was great with roti and rice. Like you couldn't go wrong with it. It had the right spice level and I would order this again and again. I added it to the fried rice we ordered because it was that delicious. The fried rice was good but I wished the sausage was mixed into the rice. I think we needed another dish to round out this meal but overall, we do want to come back to try it again. FYI - parking is tight and can get challenging. Had this place on my "mega OC try" list for a while after noticing it consistently ranked high among Thai spots in OC. Finally made it happen with the family on Christmas Eve--and wow, it delivered. Yes, there was a short wait, but checking in through the app made it less painful, and the service once seated was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was the real star. Everything tasted fresh and clean, not heavy or greasy. The shrimp fried rice was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the garlic pepper beef was outstanding--tender, savory, and one of those dishes you keep going back to for "just one more bite." Everyone at the table loved it. Other family members ordered Pad See Ew, which was solid, and another hit was the LA Times mention Khoa Soi curry noodle dish. The slight spice spikes and a small runny nose were easily worth it. The decor deserves a mention too. The lime art accents, gold utensils, and stylish backplates gave the place a surprisingly upscale feel for a strip-mall location--clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. I think I've found my new favorite Thai restaurant! After reading so many positive reviews, I decided to come here for dinner. The wait was quite long--about an hour--but it was absolutely worth it. I understand the hype now, by far my favorite Thai food spot, specifically for the curry/soup dishes or anything outside of the basic pad see ew or pad thai. Don't come here for the pad see ew, it was mid--a random to-go spot will suffice your cravings just the same. Soft Shell Crab Yellow Curry Power ($30) was the STAR of the show. The soft shell crab was so crispy, and the stir fried yellow curry was so flavorful. Medium spice was perfect. I would come back just for this dish. Khao Soi Noodle with Braised Beef ($20) was another dish I'd also order again. The beef was so tender, the curry had a great kick to it (maybe not kid friendly). A lot of wavy noodles underneath. So much soup though that we ordered an extra bowl of rice to go with it, a great second meal. Wasn't a fan of the thai tea though, too much milk and not enough tea flavor. The morning glory veggies were yum, but the crispy pork belly for $8 extra wasn't anything special. Bit of a mixed experience here mostly good but with some 'but's. We got the chicken satay, pad Thai with crispy pork belly and chu chee curry with cat fish. The pad Thai noodles were favorable but the crispy pork belly was dry and tough/chewy. The chu chee curry with fish was very good but we wish they had different spice levels for everyone to enjoy. The fish was crispy and the curry delicious though. The chicken satay was just okay. We were expecting more char like other Thai places and in the picture but it was more like hainen chicken with a lemongrass flavoring. The peanut sauce also had some spice to it , which they don't have other options. The big 'but' though was that this at the end of the meal, after we finished our main entrees. Servers were somewhat polite and attentive but they didn't notice the missing starter. When we asked half way through our meal, they checked and said very soon. Fast forward another 20min when we finished eating and they brought it (at least 45 min total) not very soon. I had such a great experience at Manaao Thai. The Pad Thai and Pad Sew are were both incredible, packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the balance of sweet, savory, and tangy in every bite. Still one of Orange County's top Thai destinations, even with tough competition from other local favorites like Chiang Rai and Siam Station. And the food quality has remained high even after they moved to a bigger location in the same plaza as their old location (I believe they took over what formerly was a 7-11). And recent signage has indicated they plan on opening a new concept in their old spot as well, so I'm excited to see what pops up there. I haven't had a bad dish here yet, but in terms of standout dishes, those include: Khao Soi Noodle Thai Boat Noodle Crab Fried Rice Mama Tom Yum Hot Pot Green Curry with Braised Beef & Roti They soon will be opening a second location at the Irvine Spectrum, so if you've avoided Manaoo so far because there always seems to be a long wait, be on the lookout for that new spot. As for the service, they were quick on the check-in. They also placed us at an opened 4 seater but later asked if we could move to a 2 seater once it was available. This was fine at first, but did led to mix-up on some incoming orders. For our order, we got the pad thai with crispy pork belly, green curry with beef rib-eye & roti, and the thai pandan custard + coconut ice cream on toast. The pad thai was a solid dish. If the pork belly was crispier, it would have been amazing. The green curry was also a good combination with the roti. The eggplant in the dish did feel a bit out of place. One of the best Thai restaurants in the area! Actually, i wish it was a little closer to me, but I would totally drive out of my way and get on the long wait list to indulge in their awesome food. First time to lunch here. It was lunch time and already at 11:30 am there was a line. They had a ipad outside to sign up to get on the waiting list. Our wait was only 20 mins and they have a couple of benches outside for seating. The restaurant is pretty big and quite a bit of tables and chair and can accommodate whether your party is big or small. We ordered the crying tiger, fish salad entree which was one of their specials, pad thai , shrimp fried rice and chicken satay. The chicken satay was not what we expected. We were expecting chicken on skewers, but instead it was a large portion of sliced chicken. It tasted good. The crying tiger was delicious and especially the pad Thai. The noodles were thin and light and not heavy at all. The fish salad was good and interesting in a sense that I've never had it, but was a nice addition the rest of the entrees;you can never go wrong having some green on your plate. The shrimp fried rice was not oily/greasy and that was very much appreciated. Overall, our experience was good and will come back again. read more
