My boyfriend and I chose to order Chinese tonight because we wanted noodles. We were looking and looking. We stumbled across this gem while on Apple Maps, Yelp, and Grubhub. We were hesitant to try a new restaurant because the previous Chinese place we tried on a whim was disappointing. Given the proximity of the restaurant, reviews, and photos, we tried it. We were very pleased. The orange chicken was incredible. The sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and citrusy. The Mongolian beef was good, not the best but good. The fried rice and lo mein was (chefs kiss) phenomenal!! We found a gem in our own neighborhood for the best Chinese food! We can't wait to go back! We first found them when we stayed in a hotel on New Year's Eve and they were one of the only restaurants open and doing deliveries... the food was so tasty ! New Chinese restaurant in South Scottsdale. Went today with my husband for a quick Late lunch and Early dinner. Staff Incredibly Friendly and happy to tell you anything you need to know about the menu. Chef.. has been cooking for many years and was a chef in New York City and had a great Reputation. Food was Unbelievably good and fresh. Nice and light.. not Oily or Greasy. Portions were perfect ... Dishes and silverware clean and Shiny. Unfortunately at this time they have No Alcohol or Beer but Crisp and Refreshing Soda's, Ice Teas and Hot tea. Dining room was so Comfortable and relaxing. Music, it was relaxing and very Calming.. really pretty. Wonderful place for Families and Children... Booths and seats soft and felt good to sit back and enjoy. Plenty of space and leg room. We really enjoyed the many Chinese Paper Umbrellas from the Ceiling... so pretty to look up and see them. With their TV screen and umbrellas have a Peaceful, yet Island feel without it being overbearing. Great Air Circulation... not cold nor hot. Everything was very clean and floor was clean as well. People, you need to go to Mandarin kitchen! The women who own it and who cook the food were trained at Jade Palace but their prices are fraction of Jade Palace's prices which frankly have gotten to be too high for us. Decided to try takeout from Mandarin Kitchen ......turned out to be a great idea ....ordered by phone for pickup....young lady who took the order was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was busy when we arrived...waited about 5 minutes for the order. Back home we enjoyed the chicken egg rolls, Singapore rice noodles and house fried rice. Wow, what a find. We learned of this relatively new restaurant through Yelp and after reading the reviews, knew it was a 'must try'. Upon entry on a Sunday at about 12:15pm, there were no occupied tables. At first, that was a little worrisome. We were greeted and told to sit where ever we wanted. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and well decorated with colorful umbrellas hung upside down frm the ceiling. We selected the Beef with broccoli ($16.95) and the Chicken with mixed vegetables ($14.95). Both come with steamed white rice. Upon arrival, we were delighted by the appearance of both dishes. Of course taste is more important than looks and after a couple of bites, we agreed the taste more than matched the appearance. The vegetables were fresh and crisp,; the beef and chicken both were of the finest quality; and the sauces were perfect. Only one other table became occupied during our visit, but we noticed at least six takeout orders were picked up. Max the proprietor was kind enough to stop by and inquire about our experience. We told him in our opinion, it is the best Chinese food we have found in the valley. We inquire about the lack of table occupancy and he admitted having been open only five months that 70% of the business has been takeout. We assured him we would be coming back for sure and since we live in North Scottsdale, we would be habitual in-house diners. I read all the previous reviews and was quite excited about this new Chinese restaurant. Sorry to say the food I selected was so bad I couldn't eat it. I'm 70 years old and have eaten quite a lot of Chinese and this was impossible to eat. The wonton chips were disgusting. Wonton soup horrible, egg rolls terrible, and Kung Pao chicken the worst. The food also had a terrible odor I love Chinese and was really looking forward to this new restaurant. I never give negative reviews but something is wrong here!!!! Next morning I got a call from Chloe at the restaurant who apologized and offered a full refund and wanted to cook a meal for me on my return visit. I can't believe how nice and willing she was to change my opinion and make me a steady customer. WOW, how things have CHANGED!!! I've been there 6-7 times since they opened less than a year ago. Each of the past visits both dine-in and carry-out have been really good. NOT TODAY, meat portions have been reduced to HALF of what was served on past visits. This trip Kung Pao Delight was Mostly celery, Zucchini & Bell Peppers, only 2 shrimp and very little chicken and beef. Service in the past was really good, but today was terrible, he only took order and brought food. NO SIDE PLATES, Beverage Re-fills, NO FOLLOW UP until over halfway through the meal. Server Dropped off check during meal and came back for payment before we finished eating. OH and it was an early dinner about 5:00pm. WE were the only table in the restaurant for most of our meal, plus a few take-out orders, then one other family arrived as we were finishing. Hope things get better soon. Great little spot! We were in town vacationing for our honeymoon and we were craving Chinese food. Found this place on here and decided to try it.
