Pauline is such a doll, I came here, not realizing that they had changed ownership. Pauline's service was warm and wonderful as she directed me toward items she thought I would most enjoy based on my flavor profile. I love that they have a lunch menu that allows for sampling appetizer in different tastes and that includes soup and salad options.! I ended up going with a pad kee mao ( not spicy, with beef, no peppers). The soup is absolutely delicious, Tom Ka coconut-based soup I think! The salad was fine, an average spring mix. Sauce was again too sweet for my taste. The vegetable rolls were fine, relatively greasy. I found the sauce too sweet and they were so busy I didn't want to keep asking for things for added taste but would have loved a peanut or tangy sauce option. The entree itself was good. I did ask for soy sauce for saltiness. Other than the soup, the hot food items came out lukewarm. Everything arrived all at once and staff were working very hard, rushing things out. I might suggest going a tad slower but chatting with customers to add an element of friendliness and connection but otherwise a great stop. I asked for a Thai Coffee to go once I was done. My friends and I always like to try new places and we thought we'd try Chern. There was plenty of parking available close to the entrance. The atmosphere is pleasant and casual and the people working there are pleasant. There were 5 of and we had reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. The restrooms were clean. We always like to share everything so we can taste it all. We got the Tom yum gai soup....AMAZING! So flavorful and the servings size was big enough that we had enough that everyone got a bowl. We also got the Crying Tiger. It was good, but not something I would consider to be "Thai" food, so to speak. We also got the green curry with beef and the Kao Soi with chicken. Both were good, but the Kao soi was superior. You can't go to a Thai restaurant and not get a noodle dish, so we got the pad Thai. I would say that was my favorite dish of the night. Everything was big enough to share and we all left very full. The food was served fairly quickly. You can pick your spice level which is great for those who aren't spice lovers. The prices are more than fair. I think we averaged about $25 a person. We will be going back, again and again! Maybe next time we will leave room for dessert. This is a must try. read more

The fish served as if you're on a local beach, the desserts with flavors so delicate you have to come back. Everything is delicious. Ploy is always the best. We wanted Thai to break our fast for Ramadan, and decided on this new restaurant. I saw that it took the spot of La's and it looks to be under new ownership since their menu is different. I ordered online for a 6pm pickup and my food was packaged and ready even a few minutes before that, which I appreciated. The young woman who greeted me was friendly and gave me chili sauce when I asked for some. I ordered the pad see ew with fried tofu, spice level hot. It was good and I especially enjoyed the salty garlic bits, but I did feel like it was missing something. Could just be my taste buds changing. The spice level was fairly accurate considering there were two more hot levels, but I could've handled hotter. I tried some of the kao soi my friend ordered and it was very yummy, I liked the flavors of the sauce as it came in two containers for takeout (the other had the noodles). The veggie spring rolls were standard, nothing special but tasty nonetheless. Can't review the restaurant experience but it looked lovely inside and I hope to be back to try their lunch specials and other dishes. read more

Decided to try this place out after hearing about the new ownership and change in menu. After looking over the menu, we decided to order the larb bites to start off with. They were quite flavorful, albeit dry for our preferences. For our main entrees we ordered the granny pineapple curry with mussels and the kao soi with soft shell crab. The curry was good; we appreciated that the mussels were already removed from the shell. Most curries come with vegetables like bell peppers, onions, sometimes tomatoes, but this one only came with basil and pineapple, which we didn't mind. The presentation of the kao soi was appealing, however, the curry soup part of it was salty. Overall, service was friendly from start to finish. The space itself is comfortable and relaxing and quite spacious for a Thai restaurant. The food did take some time to come out and did not come out around the same time for the main entrées. So, to avoid making the other feel awkward, we waited for all the main entrees to arrive before digging in. Start to finish this place really impressed me. I don't write reviews but this place deserves the recognition. Walked in and was warmly greeted. One hostess was going to seat us but was pulled away by another group to take a photo, she politely apologized and the person behind the bar had another hostess clean the table and bring us back so we did not have to wait. But I would have returned to this place for the food alone. The pad see ew was one of the best Ive had and I grew up with my aunt making great pad see ew. But the crying tiger and the grandmas curry were absolutely drop dead delicious. Approachable, tasty, 100% coming back and recommend anyone thinking about it to just do it. We've tried many Thai food restaurants in the valley and couldn't find ones that we are use to like the ones in Chicago. This restaurant on the other hand was hands down going on our list to come back to for Thai food. Now for what we ordered. For appetizer we had crispy pork belly with tamarind sauce. Very nice and crispy. We ordered chicken pad Thai which is most like everyone's go to. I didn't order it spicy as I can't do spicy food. Definitely delicious. We also ordered salt and pepper chicken (with rice (husband ordered this). They give you an option on the level of spice and it was on point. He finished the whole thing. For dessert we had caramel rotti with coconut ice cream and our second is mango sticky rice. Both tasted great. Seating was quick. Service was a bit slow. The new menu has lots of inviting choices. For lunch, we found that the rice noodle bowl was not appetizing and it was dry. The fresh rolls had too much lettuce and not enough of anything else. The dipping sauces for the rolls were delicious. The salt & pepper chicken was also dry and too heavy on the breading. Not much else on the plate besides the chicken chunks. The newer decor is inviting. The staff is friendly and it's great to see new guests trying this new cafe. read more

First time trying this place out. Used to come here when it was under La's Thai, but they steadily declined in quality and thus I stopped going. The interior decoration is nice with soothing greens and low lighting. All the staff were friendly, and the menu options looked genuinely interesting. There were only a few other diners in the restaurant, and by the time we ordered we were the only ones left. We decided on beef mussaman curry and the mama drunken seafood, hot and Thai hot respectively. The dishes came and neither were hot temperature wise or spice wise. Especially when you're the only people eating, there's no reason your dishes shouldn't be steaming hot. And especially when you're paying over $20 per entree, there's no excuse. That was a major strike. The flavors themselves were fine, but nothing popped out. The beef was tender, but the curry didn't have a ton of complexity. A little sweet, a little salty, but it lacked the depth I'm used to for mussaman. Same goes for the other dish which was just instant noodles with too many peppercorns. Definitely not worth $21, nor was mine worth $24. Again though, we couldn't get past how lukewarm the dishes were. Really disappointing and it tells me that these weren't freshly made the way they should've been, because obviously they weren't sitting in the window. I'd consider trying it once more, but with other very solid Thai places around for a cheaper price point, it's hard to find a reason to. 3.5 out of 5 stars for me. read more

As far as Thai places for in Arizona this one is great. They took over for the previous owners and have stayed very true to the old place and menu! I like getting their lunch combo which is honestly a great deal: soup, an appetizer, drink of choice, and entree. I usually am a curry guy, and all of their ones I've tried have been super flavorful. The soups they bring out for the lunch combo have a great taste as well that I always look forward to. The gals are super sweet and there's great ambient music as well!
