Went back again (and again). This was Diamond Bar restaurant week, and they obviously hadn't planned for it. Andy wasn't there, and the 2 servers and the kitchen were overwhelmed. Although we were about the first customers to arrive, It took over an hour for our entree to come out. We were trying to support them by ordering drinks and entrees, but it was a bad idea. Apparently, they were trying to accommodate the full house of customers who were ordering appetizers or only entrees, and our entree order got pushed back to the end of the line. Several customers paid their checks and left before I got up and asked why our plates were still empty? "It's coming right out" is what I was told. Great when it arrived, but then my sister was getting pretty fidgity and clearly not enjoying her night. read more

Love this place! The food is delicious and the service is wonderful. The man here (who I'm assuming is the owner/manager) is always friendly and kind every time we come here. He's great with our kids & doesn't make it feel like my kids are a nuisance when they are being a little too loud (which can be annoying to many places we go to I'm sure). I love that they have lunch specials on Saturdays. You get a good amount of food for these lunch specials. I also love how they give hot & sour soup for their lunch specials, it's really good! 3.5 stars My friend took us here for her birthday brunch and it was ~$18 I believe. Located in that mini plaza on Golden Springs/Diamond Bar Blvd, you get a taste of that asian foodies! So for Sunday brunch, after you are seated, the waiters around come by with bottles of champagne and ask you if you want any. You then can go around the food area to see what you want. They have vegetables, meats, some dressed California rolls, Chinese entrees, salad, crab legs, lobster, and some desserts. Along with fruit punch! All that is piled in one area in the "main" part of the restaurant. Most of the food here is decent. The others are going to be flavorful. The lobster here is old and they mask some of that flavor with the sauce. Their Chinese entrees meat- I think I went back regularly haha xD. Dessert was just alright- not too too many selections that were available here. The "sushi" was tuna and salmon dressed on top of a CA Roll, and some crunchy flakes as well :D. The service comes by regularly to check up on you, seeing if you want any more champagne or to clear dishes. We went for dinner at Mandarin taste and were greeted just fine and seated just fine. We ordered there Mai Tai's and they look a little like Orange Julius but were good. We ordered a couple of chicken dishes as well as beef. I thought I was in the movie 'Five Easy Pieces' with Jack Nichelson. I say this because I tried to have bell pepper and onion as served with the pepper beef added to the chicken dishes. The waiter looked at me as if he never spoke a word of English. The cashier came over and I asked for the same thing five different times in five different manners. Nothing worked. I had to actually get the pepper beef dish to bring the waiter over and put onion and peppers on a fork and say this is what I want on the chicken dishes. He still did not do it. The cashier came back and she knew what I wanted and went to the kitchen to tell them what was asked for. So you know what I got for this most aggravating situation? The most disgusting, spoiled, rotten chicken I have ever tasted. We asked for this to be replaced and again we got awkward looks. The food was not fresh, we were very lucky we did not get sick as the spoiled chicken is the worst thing to eat from a kitchen. This place has been around for awhile. The food is good, but pricey for Chinese food. Honey Walnut Shrimp is good. Tasty, good portions. Lemon Chicken is horrible. Skip this. The chicken was so hard we couldn't even eat it. It's basically strips of fried chicken with a lemon sauce. Orange Chicken is really good. I would recommend this. It's served with broccoli. We have seen this place for a long time because its local to our home and across from the delicious Indian Restaurant Peacock Gardens. My daughters school was having a fundraiser which had 20% portion of meal proceeds going to her school so we decided to try it out. Meh. I would have rather given the money to the school. Pros - Clean, well decorated and very friendly servers. Cons - Food is expensive for the portions and the quality. Szechuan beef (recommended by Yelpers) was overcooked and bland. The beef broccoli was mall food court average. We ordered lemon chicken for the kids - that too was average and the sauce thank God it was on the side because it was heavy, syrupy and way too sweet. Won Ton soup was nicely portioned but you can only order for two or more. We only wanted one serving... that was annoying. Overall I would perhaps return to try the brunch which seems a better value. Came here with my parents for the first time this past weekend and loved the restaurant and the food! It's a great spot to get lunch. The restaurant is really clean and organized. We ordered: Sauteed spinach with garlic $7.95: The pricing for their vegetables are not bad! Since I noticed many other Chinese restaurants overprice their vegetables. The spinach was also very fresh and loved the garlicy flavor it had. Just the perfect amount of garlic mixed in. Shrimp with Broccoli $10.25: Came with a decent amount of shrimp and was pretty generous with the broccoli as well. The broccoli was cooked perfectly. I hate when the broccoli is overcooked. Theirs was still nice and crunchy. As for the shimp, they were delicious! Hunan Lamb $11.00: This was my favorite dish because I love lamb. The quality of the lamb was perfect because the distinct lamb smell/taste wasn't super strong. Perfectly seasoned to eat with rice! They also have alcohol here! Mandarin taste is the families go to spot some some quick shrimp fried rice and yes they add alotta shrimp ! They really give you a good portion for about 10 bucks and some change, I can feed myself, the Hubzzzzz and two kiddos, but keep in mind I have a protein already cooked at the house. The place is clean and the owners are nice and helpful, they even bring my takeout to the car when I pick up with my kids and they are asleep in their car seats. Don't order 40 minutes before they close. I ordered a staple, sesame chicken and chicken fried rice. The chicken in the chicken fried rice was non existent. Literally there may have been less than half a drumstick worth of meat and every single bite was charred, chewy, and disgusting. The fried rice was mediocre. It certainly didn't go over well. We have been going to Mandarin Taste for almost 25 years. They always have the greatest family atmosphere and a great caring staff. This is in addition to an Outstanding Menu and great tasting food. Most recently, they have been closed to protect the Diamond Bar community from the Covid 19 Virus. August 1, 2020, under the guidelines established by LA County Health Department and the City of Diamond Bar, they have re-opened for "Take Out Service". We were fortunate to be one of their first returning customers to taste their delicious food for lunch. We were Greeted by our favorite Hostess Helen who introduced us to her Granddaughter.
