HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Went there tonight with my family including my four-year-old. Arrived at 8:40 PM and we were seated, served our soup and drinks at 8:50 PM and when I asked for an extra soup to go for later, we were told that the kitchen is closed now they can't take any more orders. After our food arrived at 9 PM, we were enjoying our dinner As a four-year-old does not eat as fast as the adult but the owner/manager was standing on top of our heads and waiting for us to get out. At 9:10 PM while we were still eating our food, he put the check on the table and told us to pay because the girl at the register has to leave because it's after 9 o'clock and she needs to go home. From the moment we entered, his attitude and dialogue with us was extremely short and rude. He practically threw the water down on the table when I asked for 2 glasses of water. At 9:15 pm, we told him that he's rushing us out of there and we're just trying to eat our dinner. He said we close at 9pm and they have to go home. I told him that if that is the case, they should stop taking customers at 8pm. If we are spending our money to eat at your restaurant, please let us enjoy our evening. Nevertheless, I picked up my son while he was eating and left the restaurant. Never will I go to this pathetic place again where there is no respect for a paying patron or a child. Found this amazing gem while in the area to start off the food is delicious, fresh and their is a wide variety of options. My boyfriend and I devoured everything. I was craving Chinese and decided to give this place a try being that it's so close to my house, boy was I in for a surprise, worse Chinese food I've ever had, I ordered Spicy shrimp, it looked and tasted like they opened up a can of sauce and heated up with some shrimp, TERRIBLE! The egg rolls were tasteless and greasy, and I should have gotten a cue when the waiter put a bowl of stale noodles as a starter on our table. Hunan Szechuan is a Mandarine taste restaurant and whenever I go I find mostly Caucasian clients there. I love their walnut shrimps which are $9 and of-course their chicken corn soup this is amazing. For two people the soup costs $8 and is the best remedy for Flu or cold it will clear up all sinuses. Much more effective then Obama Care. There is plenty of parking and very friendly mature employees and service is fast. Usual combination plate is $6. I remember coming to Mandarin Taste a looooong time ago when I was really young. There was a dish I used to order a lot, but I didn't see it on the lunch menu so I can't really remember what it is... was it Mandarin chicken? Oh well, the lunch specials were available on a Saturday (woo hoo!) so I had the shrimp in lobster sauce. Meh. Nothing to write home about. My wife had the sesame chicken which was good, but I've had better elsewhere (like Go China in Pasadena). I was super excited that you could get a lunch combination plate for only $6. It comes with fried rice, a wonton, an eggroll, soup, salad, and an entree (about 10 choices). The portions are large and filling. I made the mistake of ordering the shrimp with lobster sauce...yuck. To console myself, I ate some of my husband's kung pao chicken....probably some of the worst kung pao I've ever had. All the food was very sub par. When you're a cheap bastard like me, Chinese food brings good thoughts to you because it's cheap. However, Mandarin Taste is not cheap. When you come here for lunch, you'd better expect to pay over $10 for your meal. Sure, they have lunch specials. But their lunch specials aren't special because they're cheap, they're special because you get a little Chinese salad and the soup of the day with it. That's pretty much what makes it special. Their soup is usually hot and sour and it's solid. When I think of hot and sour soup, I expect what Mandarin Taste serves me. Remember, I'm not Chinese (though there's a persistent rumor in my family that we have Chinese blood somewhere up the line), but my childhood friend was Chinese and they were from Taiwan which makes them Mandarin. Whenever I had dinner at their house or whenever they took me to Chinatown in LA, I was eating serious, authentic Chinese food. So when I eat at Mandarin Taste, I don't get flashbacks of my childhood. Instead, I get the feeling that their Chinese food is as American as Chinese food can get. Most of the dishes are sweeter than other Chinese food I've had, and they are meatier than their counterparts. I don't mind that, but what I do mind are the prices. Ten dollars for a Szechuan beef is a lot, but I have to admit that Mandarin Taste has the best Szechuan beef I've had. It's probably not something you can find in Taiwan, but we're in America so I'm okay with crunchy, spicy, deep-fried beef with a sweet, glistening sauce. It's stereotypical 70's era window less Chinese restaurant with nice intricate workwork. The food is horrible. Perhaps, I can't stand Americanized Chinese food anymore, but the food is extremely unappetizing. They don't even have a decent vegetable dish if you decide to eat family style. The Szechuan beef is served with huge chunks of brocolli which are so large you need to cut them into three before you can eat them. I ordered the Mapo tofu and well, let's just say, using the House brand sauce packets to make it in your house tastes so much better. TERRIBLE. Came here for my Mom's birthday and was insanely disappointed. First off, the prices are ridiculously high for the low quality of food. The first course was wonton soup. It had some fresh looking veggies in it but flavor was completely non-existent. It literally tasted like clear broth. Next was the appetizers, a pork spare rib, coconut shrimp, foil chicken and an egg roll. The spare rib tasted like chinese bbq pork. The coconut shrimp was very greasy and overly sweet, like it was made with sweetened shredded coconut instead of unsweetened. My little brothers liked the foil chicken, I wasn't a fan, it was stuck to the foil and super salty. The egg roll was ehhh, I'm indifferent to egg rolls in general. Our entrees included Szechuan Beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken Pan Fried Noodles. The beef was crunchy. Yeah. CRUNCHY. It tasted like it was overcooked and then deep fried. The sweet and sour chicken was mostly batter with a tiny amount of chicken inside. The kung pao had ZERO heat and tasted medicore at best. The pan fried noodles were okay but the chicken that was in it tasted like it had been bad for a while...think sour. Our fried rice tasted like oil with eggs. The best part of the meal was the fortune cookies at the end of the dinner. The cookies went the fastest out of everything we ate! I think the waiter heard us complaining because he came back to the table with two big to-go containers filled to the top with fortune cookies. He also probably did this because we didn't want ANY of the leftover food (it was a TON) to take home with us. I definitely don't recommend this place to anyone with a decent palate or who have a love of chinese food. 3 stars for the food, 1 star for service. The staff at work decided to order to-go from this place as we were short staffed that day and we all couldn't go out for lunch. I called and asked them for a menu and even that was a chore. He said they have a website but I couldn't understand his English so I either (1) got the wrong URL or (2) they didn't really have a website. Being as how it was lunchtime, we decided to order off their lunch special menu. Your standard chinese food setup. Entree, rice, eggroll and soup of the day. But apparently, they felt it wasn't necessary to keep a supply of disposable soup containers because on to-go orders, you don't get the soup. WTF? Soup only for dine-in. What kind of wacky rule is that? I asked if they could put all the soup into one large container. Nope. I was almost tempted to ask if I could get the soup if I brought my own container but alas, we didn't have a container at the office. So of course my next logical question was if they discount the meal because I don't get the soup. No again. Ugh. At this point, I was hungry so I just placed the order. I was defeated. As for the food, it was so-so. I ordered the sesame chicken. It was served in one of those standard 3 compartment styrofoam boxes. It was about 65% rice and 35% sesame chicken. The chicken was tender but salty. I got a little woozy after the meal so I'm wondering if they use MSG. read more

I just want to share the most ugly experience i had with me and 4 of my friends at this restaurant.. We walked in sunday afternoon for lunch but they were serving brunch. We decided to go with champagne brunch...$19.99 per person..bad choice we made. We asked for soft drink they want to charge extra, we wanted mimosas, they wanted to charge extra for it. And the waiter who was,serving us kept sharing our conversation with The next seated guests. We found it very unprofessional, unclassy, ignorant and rude! We had 2 under 21 kids, the offered the champagne without verifying ID. I talked to the manager and he was no help and was taking side of the employee. Food was not even worth paying the money we paid. Service was very poor. Wanted some desert..they already out. This is my go-to place for Chinese in Diamond Bar. It has great food and a warm and friendly staff. The food here is great! I get cravings for the fried dumplings with spicy chili sauce (I believe they make their own chili sauce). My mouth starts watering every time I start talking to people about it! The crispy shrimp is a regular choice for me. Other favorites include the pan-fried noodles, the scallops with garlic sauce, sweet-and-sour pork chops (which have a lighter sauce than traditional sweet-and-sour pork), the lettuce-wrapped chicken appetizer, the wonton soup, the hot-and-sour soup, and the cold smoked chicken with pickled cabbage appetizer. I've been here a couple of times, both for lunch. I have to say that most of the reviews of tihs place are pretty accurate in terms of taste which can be characterized as above mediocre, but not by much. There is one significant detail that most reviewers left out. Let me break it down for you. I can only speak for their lunch menu by the way. They have typical Chinese food selections including Mongolian beef, Kong Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, etc. These entrees come with rice, a salad, and Hot & Sour soup (which is good but nothing to flip out about...I've had better) and of course a fortune cookie with the check oh yeah and tea at no extra charge. It makes for a complete and VERY filling lunch. The one thing most people left out is that they give you HUGE portions. Dude, you can't finish it. Overall it's a good deal. Yeah it's $9-10 per person but you get EVERYTHING. You can go to Panda for $7 and honestly I would prefer to do that, but if you're really hungry and maybe want to sit down somewhere that feels more like a dining experience, this isn't a bad option. Been here many times and it's always great food and great service. The brunch on Sundays is a deal! Unlimited champagne brunch from 11am to 2 pm I believe. Some of my favorites from the lunch/dinner menu are the moo shu pork, sauteed string beans with pork, pan fried crispy noodles, and eggplant with garlic sauce. These are just a few of a long list of good dishes. Have to agree with everybody that the honey walnut shrimp is delicious as well. we have been long time customers before the pandemic. so we go back after the pandemic for old time's sake. Prices have soared (i guess to make up for losses) and customer service has dived. we ordered #18 on the Specialty Dishes which was supposed to be fresh shrimp and scallops. we got potatoes instead of scallops. The owner was rude when confronted but he stated that the menu said potatoes. has anyone heard of a Mandarin dish with potatoes instead of scallops? well, he didn't apologize or make the dish correct. very incorrect. would not recommend shrimp and potatoes dish. would not recommend the restaurant. read more

My family and I have been coming to Mandarin Taste FOREVER. This is my brother's and grandma's favorite Chinese restaurant. Just be warned that this is a very Americanized Chinese restaurant. Just walk in and you will rarely see an Asian customer. I guess that sort of says something for the authenticity. The food here isn't bad at all though. My favorite thing here is the crispy chicken chow mein and these fried buns that I've never seen anywhere else. It's fried and like strings on the inside. Hard to explain, but they're very good. The prices are definitely much higher than what you would find at other Chinese restaurants. You would probably like this place if you consider P.F. Changs to be good Chinese food. On the plus side, the service here is a lot better than most Chinese restaurants. People will actually come up to you and ask how your meal is. Shocking! Like I said, we've been coming here on and off for years and the waiters all seem to know us. It's a decent Chinese restaurant in a pinch, but you might want to go up Diamond Bar Blvd and check out Jade House - my fave DBar Chinese spot. read more

I don't know why this restaurant only has 3.5 stars. I reluctantly agreed to this restaurant my husband spoke so highly of but am glad I decided to come! My husband and I and three little ones came to dine here one evening and what a wonderful experience it was! The servers are so friendly ( even to our children) attentive and made me feel like I was eating in a high class restaurant. They dress very nice with bow ties and vest and the restaurant was a traditional Chinese place which was exactly what I wanted. Besides the great service and pretty and clean ambiance, the food was delicious and flavorful and the prices were affordable. Also, the food came out shortly after we placed our order!
