This place went down after Covid and even worse with the new owners. I do not mind paying extra for quality food, but it is non-existent here. A waiter named Van is rude as can be and and he smells like a walking ashtray. Because of his attitude, I refuse to go there anymore. WE have been going here over 30 years. He has always been rude, but now he is just so comfortable being a straight A-hole. I am willing to bet he is the person people are complaining about. If you call one minute before 5:00, he just yells "Closed. Call back at 5:00," and hangs up. I think the new owners just want people who have worked there for years to make their lives easier, but that is a bad decision because the food sucks now and he is chasing away the loyal clientele. The soup tastes like water, no matter what variety you get. They got rid of their FROZEN coconut shrimp and replaced it with frozen tempura shrimp you can buy at Costco or anywhere else. The chicken dishes are all thigh meat with gristle and connective tissue and the veggies are not fresh. They also stopped giving out the fried noodles that used to be so good. Even their cocktails suck now because they use cheap mix. Don't even ask for fountain Sprite. It is so nasty and tastes like dirt because that machine has got to be filthy. Andy is super nice as a server and so full of personality, but Van is a dick and the food sucks, so I will just keep driving down Golden Springs a little further to a better spot. I used to come here 20 + years ago. I recently re-discovered it. And so glad I did. The cocktails are the best ! ( to start with ! Lol ) The soups, are the most tasteful Chinese style , wpnton, hot n sour, and egg flower. Authentic Chinese. We usually stop by and have the three flavor lo-mein. Omg, so delicious !! Shrimp, pork and chicken with the best sauteed. Noodles. Love the egg rolls, orange chicken, or anything they cook here ! Highly recommended !! Best Chinese food within 50 miles !! Been coming here for many years. Place has been here since 1984, all these years they have been serving the same tasteful quality food. I moved a few years back 2 hours aways. I still comeback every chance i get and the same owner and server have always treated me the same. I would recommend this place when ever you are driving by Diamond Bar. If you find yourself stuck on traffic just exit off of Grand. The good thing is that it is off 60fwy eastbound, turn right, on Diamond Bar Blvd make left and the drive is about less than a mile. I prefer to do business with mom and pop restaurants. I have been going to Mandarin Taste for decades and have spent thousands of dollars there over the years. The prices have gone up, the quality has gone down but I have been a loyal customer. Last night, a Friday, we walked in at 8:30pm. The Yelp listing says they are open until 9pm. The hand written sign on the door says they will only sell take out after 8:30pm. I asked and was told we would not be seated. Not a problem. I will not be returning to the restaurant as they appear to not need my business and I live several miles away. It's unfortunate that a restaurant would prefer to enforce a rule rather then accommodate a long time customer but that is the choice they seem to make. I supported the business during the pandemic and am sad that my relationship with the business ended this way. read more

I had the most delicious lunch at Mandarin Taste yesterday. The restaurant is lovely and plays soothing quiet music while you dine. Our wait staff was very attentive and the owner checked on us several times. every single item my group ordered was deliciously perspired and beautifully presented. We went because of the great reviews However, it was a Wednesday evening so may be that is why food was so bad. We ordered some fried shrimp as appetizer. It is 6 pieces for $19.00 a bit pricey and I was expecting some nice shrimp appetizers. They were so small a strip about 1/2 by 4" long. Not even a full size shrimp. Our meal consisted of Chicken lo mein, combination rice, honey walnut shrimp and Beef Broccoli. The Lo mein was very dry and even hard on some of the ends. That tells me it was sitting around before served. Which may explaing our order was on table 5 min. The honey walnut shrimp was good but there was about 6 pieces of shrimp and the dish was $21.00 Getting water or tea refills did not happen for the waiter never came by to check on us. There were only two other tables occupied. I have been looking for a cantonese or Mandarin chinese restaurant since my favorite one retired and closed up. I would not recommend this place if you want fresh hot food. I believe all food is prepared and kept under a warmer or in oven. Very disappointed. I was hoping the high prices meant food would be fresh, hot and delicious. read more

This restaurant is one of those vintage restaurants that still have good service with very good non fast food Chinese food. I find this type of food hard to find in my area anymore. The dishes are prepared fresh and taste delicious. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. The decor is a bit dated but it is clean, I prefer good food to updated surroundings. 4/30/2021: diamond Bar in LA. Thank you Yelp! Stopped over to pick up some grilled salmon plate for my cousin. It comes with rice and soup but because it was take out they don't give out soup even if it's part of the entree. According to my cousin the salmon was really good. We came here with my parents - they picked it because they like a traditional Chinese restaurant experience. We ordered family style $25 per person which included the poo poo style appetizers. The waiter was RUDE! Just his demeanor was not very welcoming and I felt like we were bothering him. I was disappointed the appetizers were brought out pre-served on our own individual plates. However, the were flavorful. During our meal the same waiter and a female hostess started having words in their language (I believe Mandarin) and they were shouting at one another from across the dining room. Not only is this awkward but it does not make for a peaceful meal. The place was too pricey for the service and quality of food. There wasn't really anything I would return for. read more

I was looking for a sit down nicer Chinese restaurant (not American style) and I noticed on our city's Facebook page that many people recommended this restaurant. I knew it was going to be good just by their comments and it was. It was exactly was I was looking for: authentic, clean, excellent food, and good service. The booths are a nice touch and it's nice. We had the Mandarin dinner for 2 and everything we had was premium and good portions. The wonton soup was especially surprisingly generous in the ingredients as in what's included in it and very tasty. We will definitely be back. read more

My girlfriend took me to Mandarin Taste last night as part of our date. I have to admit, it wasn't that bad... I liked the decor, and the crispy chow mein noodles on each table were definitely a nice touch. Also, free hot tea - bonus! We ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice (deluxe fried rice with egg, chicken, beef, and shrimp) and an order of Kung Pao in Three Flavors (kung pao chicken, shrimp, and beef). The food came out fast, and it definitely was good. HOWEVER... within half an hour after dropping off my girl, I started getting sleepy. It wouldn't be a problem if I was at home, but on the freeway from Diamond Bar to San Diego? Not. Good. I chalked it up to the activities of our date that day (use your imagination!)... but after having the leftovers for lunch today, I started getting sleepy again. I'm not sure if Mandarin Taste uses MSG, but if they do, I guess a double dose of caffeine will be in order next time my girlfriend and I stop by here again! read more

Both The Servers Were Not Warm, Friendly, Or Hospitable, But They Were Accommodating Which Gave Them A Few Brownie Points. Maybe They Were Stressed Out Or Unhappy But The Vibe Was Strange. The Food Was Actually A Little Different And Better Than I Expected. Their Egg Flower Soup Was Quite Lovely And Had A Wider Assortment Of Vegetables Blended In Than Most Restaurants. Our Peking Duck Was Served On Mu Shu Skin Which Was Odd. I Love Mu Shu But I Honestly Prefer It On The Small White Buns With The Oyster Chips. Came here due to having a craving for some good ol' fashioned sweet & sour pork (yea, I'm old school like that, so don't judge). While there are tons of Chinese restaurants in the area, there weren't many that had this dish. Thank goodness for Yelp! They executed this dish perfectly. Nice and unnaturally red with pineapple chunks. Glorious. The decor had a nice vibe to it, making me feel like I was really eating in a Chinese restaurant. Service was really good. This Place is always my go to for really fresh and delicious Chinese food. There's so much flavor in everything. My favorites are their shrimp fried rice (best I've ever had), their garlic broccoli, and the three sizzling soup. I'm always craving this place! Went back again (and again). This was Diamond Bar restaurant week, and they obviously hadn't planned for it. Andy wasn't there, and the 2 servers and the kitchen were overwhelmed. Although we were about the first customers to arrive, It took over an hour for our entree to come out. We were trying to support them by ordering drinks and entrees, but it was a bad idea. Apparently, they were trying to accommodate the full house of customers who were ordering appetizers or only entrees, and our entree order got pushed back to the end of the line. Several customers paid their checks and left before I got up and asked why our plates were still empty? "It's coming right out" is what I was told. Great when it arrived, but then my sister was getting pretty fidgity and clearly not enjoying her night. read more

Been going here for 30 years, service was good, price is always good, food is almost always great. Today, I am very disappointed. I ordered a Schewan beef lunch to eat in and one to go. Got home, the one to go was stuffed into a very small plastic container so you get less then normal, but worse; because it was smushed in, it lost it's crispiness and became mushy. On top of that, the brocoli that is part of the dish was missing as they don't have room to put it in. (no soup, or salad that is part of the lunch menu either). They tell me they are not using the styroform container any more. Then please use something that you can put the "whole" serving in as it was intended to be with the broccoli and the bowl of rice! Do not use a small plastic container where you smush the food and delete the broccoli, give less schewan been then when it is served in the restaurant or sent to go in the styroform container. I am really disappointed that you would cut corners in this fashion! My left over was packed in a styroform container (the one supposedly you don't use anymore) and when I got home, my schewan beef was still crisp. I really think your customers should be able to rely on a good "and complete" order when they order food to go. I am writing here because there was no manager on the premises (or a person in charge either) to speak with so hope somebody of responsibility sees this and makes some corrections.
