I was a long time patient here for my acne, going through 8 months of accutane with PA Allison Eisenberg. I came in for a follow up following with a few active breakouts and she suggested that she extract them. I was completely unaware that the extractions and injections would require an additional charge of $213 after insurance on top of the visit cost. Should this had been clear to me in advance I would not have obliged to her suggestion. Patient affordability is not top of mind. She has pushed on me the branded products all over $100 as a solution for my skin. read more

Dr. Tongdee (derm) recommended a skin care face wash to me that contained bleach and did not provide any sort of warning. I ended up destroying brand new towels, and the office basically told me tough luck. The doctor knew I was a new patient and still neglected to inform me about her product recommendations. I have suffered from acne since I was a teenager and now that I am 25 it has been so embarrassing for me to have all this acne. A friend recommend I come see Allison who is an incredible PA. She's been treating me for about 1 year and my skin has completely changed. Allison is extremely knowledgeable and hit the nail right on its head at my first appointment last year. My mother had a whole series of issues with Dr. Mandel, his PA, and his staff a few months ago. She went to his office with a significant skin rash covering her whole body. Both Dr. Mandel AND his PA gave her a definitive diagnosis of scabies from the other side of room. They prescribed a cream that she had to keep on for 12 hours, with a second application one week later. She was told that she was "highly contagious" and to completely sequester herself for "at least one week." This course of treatment did absolutely nothing. Three weeks after her initial appointment, she went back to the office and was seen by the PA, (Dr. Mandel was not there) who suggested a biopsy, which took a whole week to process, finally determining that their initial diagnosis (from across the room) was completely incorrect. It turns out that she has an autoimmune disease, Bullous Penphigoid. It took her four weeks to get an accurate diagnosis. They had a very dismissive and perfunctory attitude in her treatment and follow through. Additionally, multiple mistakes were made by Dr. Mandel's administrative staff, neglecting to forward her Medicare information to the laboratory, who billed my mother $886 for the blood test. All of this was disturbing and highly unprofessional. read more

So personable, he's also the smartest doctor I've ever seen, and always cures any problem I have, as well as being very helpful during regular checkups. I have been to Mandel Dermatology a number of times. The first time, I was impressed. I was seen by Mandel and he was professional and understanding. He listened to my concerns and explained everything to me. I was grateful because he was personal, or at least he seemed to be; the discussions were on how "WE" were going to tackle issues. However, after the first visit, I never saw Mandel again. I went to follow ups and was always told that he was on "vacation." I was seeing the physician assistant, and I just felt like I had to be on top of her. I had a bunch of follow-ups and co-payments. She was giving me all of these creams that were doing NOTHING for me and the follow ups were for things that she could have told me over the phone... They were milking my insurance. I booked a last minute appointment with Dr. Mandel for a skin rash. He really listened to what I was saying and did not rush me. He confirmed the diagnosis and gave me the next steps to take, and based on the other positive reviews/his level of experience, my mind was put to ease. However, the thing I liked most about the doctor was that he stuck to the exact reason for my visit (rash). I have seen other derms for this and they all took it upon themselves point out my sensitive skin/ mild breakouts and try to push acne medication on me very aggressively to the point where I felt very self conscious about my skin. I never write bad reviews but this was completely unprofessional. The physician's assistant, Ally was helping me on an off day when Dr. Mendel was not there, which I was completely fine with. She came in and we spoke, I agreed to everything she suggested and when I was leaving the room, I literally saw her say "I can't, I just can't. I don't know what her issue is." I came here for an "Advanced HydraFacial with Boosters" through Gilt City (still wasn't inexpensive by any means) and was very disappointed. It was my first HydraFacial so I don't have anything to compare it to except regular facials, but after the treatment I had to point out that there was still makeup on my face; obviously this treatment did not provide the deep cleaning as advertised. Unfortunately while the technician was very nice, she was sniffling all throughout the service which was very off-putting. Nothing of the process was explained to me and the option I purchased included "boosters" and I'm not sure I received a booster as I wasn't asked about what booster I would want or advised on any. It wasn't a relaxing treatment and I didn't see any difference in my skin afterwards. read more

I've gone to Dr. Mandel for more than a decade, inheriting him from his former office colleague, Dr. Robert Auerbach (voted one of NYC's best dermatologists by NY Mag in the 90's), upon the latter's retirement. He's fabulous. Here's what you need to know: - Dr. Mandel is a great dermatologist. He does the true medical skin-issue thing brilliantly, and -- which matters more for me -- is also a talented anti-aging expert. - His office is beyond hectic. He books multiple patients per time slot; you may frequently have to wait, as he can run late, and the office staffers are typically stressed out and overworked. Getting someone's attention to check out can be daunting. - He takes insurance for office visit costs. I love that. Not all dermos of his level do, nowadays. - I've used his private label products for 15 years, and when the office staff says they're better than the prescription equivalents, THEY. AREN'T. LYING. They're cheaper and to me, they do work better. (They're mixes of products, not just one thing.) I have the wrinkle-free skin to prove it. - Once you see him and have your bucket list of products and unguents, you can easily reorder online, which is a relatively new service he provides and is super-efficient, or just run into the office and pick up more. It's not a sleepy practice by any stretch of the imagination, but it's well-priced for the exceptional quality of service and product you receive. He's a delightful alternative to the Glamour Dermos About Town who overcharge for everything just because they've been on Oprah. Dr. Mitchell is no-nonsense and very nice... However he and his staff push his personal brand of products hard on you, it's a little sneaky. I had to keep asking for pharmacy equivalents -- Dr Mitchell had no problem prescribing alternatives, but his staff rolled their eyes and tried to convince me his out of pocket versions were better. Also, nobody would have offered me alternatives if I hasn't asked. Distasteful. read more

Went to see Dr. Mandel once. I called shortly after the visit as he forgot to treat the area I went to see him about. No one EVER returns a phone call, unless you are booking an appointment, and he overcharged Medicare massively! 15 minute initial visit for $850! Called three times last week, no reply. I saw Dr Mandel in his Jericho office and was in the city with an emergency so I ran in to see Dr Mandel. As always he had me come right over, I did have to wait 20 minutes, but not having an appointment I thought that was great. I thought his nurses in Jericho were nice, wow, the staff at his NY office are even better. And of course Dr Mandel quickly and expertly took care of me, gave me a cream and antibiotics, and made me feel relieved that I did not have anything serious. read more

Dr. Mandel and his staff deserve five stars across the board! I went through about 8 different dermatologists who misdiagnosed a skin disease that I was suffering with for about 6 years. Every other dermatologist handed me a prescription for antibiotics and sent me on me way. I went years without an answer for my terrible skin condition. I finally found Dr. Mandel ! Within a few minutes of visiting with him he had known exactly what I had ! I finally had an answer because of him, He provided me with many different approaches for treatment . I was very embarrassed and ashamed of my skin in the beginning and after meeting with Dr. Mandel I have NEVER had such an improvement ! I also had terrible breakouts on my face and he just reassured me not to worry because we could fix what was going on. He is very professional and knowledgable.
