Holy crap, I cannot believe that I have never Yelped this holy grail of steak joints. It is an institution. When I visit MN, I stay at the Foshay, I eat at Manny's. Yup, I do. But only as often as I can schedule a visit with a client. The key word here is client, customer. Yes, I am in sales, Yes I take clients/customers here on a corporate card. If you never do anything else in life, you gotta try the Apple Smoked Bacon. Bacon? WTF? For the love of god, please re-name this to Apple Smoked Bacon Slab. The single dish has two slabs of bacon. Thick cut, marvelous, tasty, melt in your mouth slabs bacon!!!! I have seen grown men break down and cry when they eat this. It is ultra amazing, you will absolutely thank me later. Holy crap, once you inhale the whole slab of the above, there are lots of appetizer choices. Scallops Benedict, Shrimp Cocktail (shrimp about the size of my fist), Portabello Fries - and Roasted Bone Marrow. Roasted Bone Marrow is a treat, sounds nasty, but again, delightful, you will absolutely thank me later. Out comes the table, and the show continues, enjoy the cuts of beef, ask a lot of questions. You cannot go wrong with any choice, but my favorites are the bone-in ribey and the world famous Bludgeon of Beef. The last time I was there, I believe they had an 85 day bone-in ribeye. It was to die for...... So, Bludgeon of Beef. What up with that? 50 oz. giant piece of cow. It is hard to believe, and I have proved wrong many a nay-sayer that this cut is alway, as in 100% of the time, PERFECT. I do not know how they do it, but you can cut it with a fork. The seared dry rock seasoning is just spectacular. I cannot say enough on this cut. I only order it when I can share it, so if you are a road warrior and cannot take home a to go bag, forgetaboutit. All the sides are family style and huge. Asparagus the size of a tree, loaded hash browns are equally huge, mushrooms the size of hockey pucks in a savory au juice sauce........ Desert, you crazy. Never. Well just once, Hot Fudge Sunday and the Manny's Brownie. Equally huge portions. The brownie comes out with separate hot fudge and hot caramel, just to die for ------- praise the food god, where is my Zantac? My ultimate favorite restaraunt in the whole world never lets me down. Salads came before the appetizer, appetizer came less than 10 minutes after salads and the steaks maybe ten minutes after that. I hadn't finished half my glass or white wine and suddenly here are our steaks so ordered the red I wanted to go with that. Food was just OK. Both the filet and NY strip had a texture we didn't like. Okay so I'm going to begin by saying I rated it 4 stars but I'm doing so because absolutely nothing was wrong with our dinner here. However, this was one of the most average steakhouses overall I've been too. I will start with what was the biggest positive about our experience here. The service. Our server was absolutely knowledgeable, friendly, and not overbearing in the slightest. Oh my goodness was he fantastic. I am terrible at names and I feel horribly because he deserves a shout out. I was discussing scotch out of curiosity at the end of dinner and he let me try a sample just so I could build my own knowledge. 5 stars there. As far as food, the shrimp cocktail was awesome. I've been places where the shrimp is small or soggy or something else. Loved it. The food overall though was nothing special. The salmon was good and that's as nice as I'm going to get. The steak was also very okay. No particular great seasoning. Nothing made it stand out. The menu has huge portions of food which yeah, if I was with a larger group that would've been great but for 2 people the selection wasn't great. I went into so much detail only because price. This is more a service and drink review since I didn't eat here, but just had drinks at the bar. This place was "WOW". It's beautiful and posh (part of the W hotel). The arrangement of the exterior area where the bar is so inviting. Gorgeous place to just relax even. An exquisite looking long bar with just tons of cushioned couches and pillows in an eclectic/contemporary style. Almost disco-ish.! We came to get drinks and the bartender right off the bat offered me to take a seat in the couch area and told me the waitress would bring our drinks over (much appreciated since I didn't know there was a waitress serving; we came when no one was around pretty much). The waitress was good, she came over multiple times after serving us our drinks and us finishing them even though the couch area is HUGE and it had gotten busier with several groups seated around. Overall a super nice place. I only give it a 4, because the drinks weren't what I expected though they were really strong (my cousin and I were both buzzed after one drink apiece!!!) and we didn't have a chance to try the food. This is a very nice restaurant. We celebrated a tremendous college graduation at Manny's last night. Tony H. was our table manager, he had multiple servers assisting him with table support, they kept our table fresh with bread and water. We ordered steaks and sides; small and large filet minion, porterhouse, baseball steak, and NY strip. Our sides were mashed potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, mac and cheese and bread. The food tasted great. Our group gave the staff high marks for quality of food, value, customer experience, ambiance, high mission of service and follow-through. Our expectations were high due to the costs on the menu. They offered a free dessert to help us wrap- up a tremendous evening. I was most impressed with the dedicated service, high touch, excellent suggestions on food and drink options. I recommend and will return to Manny's. Bon appetite. read more

We came to Manny's on Saturday the 8th for our annual steakhouse Saturday night pre game dinner for our annual 49er road trip game of the year. This year it happened to be opening week also for the NFL. Manny's was super accommodating to us as we had to change the number of our party on the fly. We ordered 2 bottles of red wine, split about 4-5 sides, the hash browns, creamed spinach, asparagus, and a few others. I got the filet, the cut of meat was excellent. The service was A+ and the food was A+ also, but it's also the most expensive piece of meat I've ever ordered in my life at I think it was $90 for my filet alone. The steak was great, but I didn't walk out of there saying it was the best steak I've ever had which I was hoping to do after spending the most on one steak I've ever done. Went here for a work Christmas party and things were all good, but places like Giannis Steakhouse in Wayzata do the same with better food quality for a third of the price it seems. We did a Christmas party at Gianni's last year and the whole group decided that Giannis was an all around better experience. Our team took our monthly outing to Manny's on a sweltering Minneapolis afternoon. We had 11:30 reservations, but probably didn't need them. They were about half full by 12:30. The six of us entered the beautiful façade of the Foshay Tower and immediately you are impressed with all the famous pictures on the wall. Off the hand I saw "The Rock", Kim Kardashian, and Mr. Famous Dave himself. To the right is a real cool looking, nostalgic feeling bar with lots of mirrors and crimson red table clothes everywhere. After the bar is a smallish dining room that seemed a little crowded, table wise. It is beautiful inside with wine racks lining the walls. Immediately a water server fills up our glasses and a stoic looking server comes out and is pure business, but in a cool way somehow. We all ordered their Ultimate hamburger, which comes with blue cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, pickle. You can get fries or potato salad. I chose the fries. Our co-worker got the Kobe beef spare ribs (She gave me a taste, scrumptious and melt in your mouth tender) The burgers came out after about 10-15 minutes on a rolling cart of dead cow. They were huge! I am guessing half pound patties. I had my crispy pickle spear and cut the burger in half. I think after 4 bites I actually thought to myself, I don't even see a dent in the thing yet. I ordered medium and it was perfectly juicy. The blue cheese was a little over powering, I think I'll go with cheddar next time. The bun was as big as a baby's face and the fries were nice and crispy. Service was excellent and they split the checks, which is always good for work groups. 18 bucks including tip, not bad for a lunch downtown, which will run 12-15 bucks anywhere else, and hey! We went for our anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. This was our first time In Minneapolis and we truly enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Paul was our waiter and he took real good care of us. He answered all our questions and make great recommendations. I had the ribeye and my husband had the porterhouse steak. We also ordered a half portion of the loaded mashed potatoes. The bacon bits in the loaded mashed potatoes "made a fat boy want to dance" as my husband said. Hands down best bacon we've ever had! Manny's is everything a big city restaurant should be and more. The overall experience is fun and the food is excellent. I'd say there's bit of a show plus meal when you dine here. The show part is the fact it's a desirable restaurant and you should always get a reservation, it was packed on a random Thursday when we went. When you enter you get to see all the celebrity photos and may even run into someone while you're there. They have tons of accolades to look at too. It's a very upscale atmosphere as it is connected to the W hotel, kinda modern atmosphere. When you walk to your table you can see how fun the people watching part is, there's some money in the room to say the least. They have these food carts to show off their main products, upon learning the price you will start to look around at other tables and start calculating their meal costs. This part was fun in addition to the great meal. The food is awesome, the sides are a la carte similar to other high end places. The steaks are prime and of high quality, you are getting what you pay for here. They offer several cuts steak and other select items, you should be able to find something special here for your meal. I really enjoyed my steak as did my friend that dined with me. The service is great and the pace of the meal was just right. This place is a winner in my book, go check them out. Alright....anyone that lives in the Twin Cities (or visits) deserves a trip to Manny's. The service is impeccable. The steaks are perfectly prepared every time. There is a good variety of seafood, appetizers, salads, and while they knock you back with the high steak prices, some of these other options are relatively reasonable. That said, it is the perfect restaurant for a business dinner of 6-8 people. My one complaint is that other than the 8 oz filet (which is my go-to) there are very limited options for those that are trying to keep their portion sizes reasonable. The prime rib is 3" thick and the size of a football. It's not that everything isn't totally delicious, it's that I'd prefer a few more options that are half the size/half the price. They also have a $28 burger that should be one of your choices for your last meal. read more

I've always heard great things about Manny's, but never took the time to really explore it (and besides, when Fogo is down the street it's hard to stay away from all you can eat) and give it a shot. Yesterday was the big day. Went to Manny's for lunch and I was so impressed. True to Minneapolis style, the facade is pretty standard, but the entryway from the Foshay is stunning. The restaurant itself was clean yet still cozy. Huge shout-out to Manny's for having bright enough lighting, especially for the time of day. Service was good, though it did feel a little rushed (I was still nibbling on my broccolini, but they stopped by twice to grab it so I figured I ought to give it up). On the plus side, they get the food out quickly which is great for a lunchtime treat. The menu is extensive and, honestly, it was hard to choose exactly what I was craving. I "settled" on the lobster roll and, y'all, it was a work of art. Piled high with perfectly-seasoned lobster AND the bun was fabulous. A++ and I highly recommend. Value-wise, I haven't SEEN the dinner menu but I've heard it's pricey, so lunch was a great start for me. I'd definitely plan on going back and I was so happy with my first experience! read more

Whenever I come to Minneapolis I always go to this restaurant. It's an old time favorite for many. The service is impeccable and the food qualities always excellent. I ordered an old-fashioned but I wasn't quite sure which one I wanted. The waiter was excellent in describing all of them and brought me one it was to my liking. So I got a craving for prime rib and Manny's has the most high reviews, so here I am. Let's start with it's Friday night, Willie Nelson is playing, and the Guthrie Theater is hosting opening night of a new play. The joint is packed! I called at 5, and was told there were no reservations available, but there was one open seat in the bar, which is full service. If that didn't work out, the attached hotel has full service in their bar, the "Living Room," and so I could still order prime rib. Anyway, I got lucky, and got the last seat at the bar. It's dark, tightly spaced, and stocked with premium liquors. It loosened up as the after work crowd cleared and the dinner crowd filtered in for reservations. I started with bourbon neat, and in any other bar from California to New York, the pour I received is a double. No joke. Three fingers, easily. When I ordered a glass of wine, it was 2/3 of a glass. Thank goodness for Uber! As I am dining alone, I passed on appetizers, and ordered a wedge salad, prime rib and a baked potato. Any of these items would suffice as a meal. For real. There was easily 4oz of meaty bacon chunks with my wedge salad, which was a fat quarter head of iceberg lettuce, and topped with real blue cheese crumbles. Yum. Then, the prime rib au jus, cooked perfectly, arrives covering the plate. The portion was beyond enormous. It looked like a rib, plus the meat from both sides. On a grocery store cut, this would have been two ribs. It comes with creamy horseradish, and straight raw horseradish is available upon request. The baked potato is close to a pound, with more bacon chunks, butter and sour cream. I apologize that this review is so wordy. There just aren't enough words to describe the culinary delight I experienced tonight. The simplest of meals made extraordinary to satisfy my palate - yep, that's it. There is the kind of steakhouse you go with family and the kind you go to with an expense account, this place is neither. Bear in mind I am not from Minnesota and I have no emotional attachment to any place here. 1) wine list is ridiculous- example the Prosecco was La Marca... not sure I need to elaborate but let's just say it's two steps up from Franzia. 2) the meat is not seared on both sides, at least what was brought to our table was not; it's just broiled why is why they give you a song and dance about how their medium is medium rare. Gets it out of the kitchen faster but it doesn't do justice to the meat. We've had better, a little chewy. 3) their bread and butter is the the big expense account tables. the servers pay more attention to expense account tables, bigger tips and tables. however, what if you brought in one client and they didn't know that? Then made you wait all night? Service should be uniform and I would not take the risk. We waited an hour to order food, which came out quickly afterwards because see above: small menu and kitchen is a factory. 4). seasoning was weak: salt, pepper, garlic, truffle oil, not applied evenly with an experienced hand. 5) they add 3% to the bill for employee benefits. An expensed meal with clients can be $2,000 for 6; 3percent on top of that because you can't afford to pay your servers? What are you doing with the $100 entrees? that's just money grubbing and disgusting. I'm from the East Coast where the cost of living is very high and I have never seen this. Of course gratuity is extra also. A family would probably pay $100 in gratuity and fees. 6) the room needs freshening up, it doesn't have a lux feel. Overall, not worth it. Manny's has a reputation, so I was fully expecting a high quality steakhouse experience when I came here for dinner. I was definitely not let down. So much food, so much deliciousness, I'm just so tremendously satisfied with my meal. It is a fancy steakhouse. The prices are not small, and neither are the portions. Everything is prepared and served with 100% professionalism. My salad, my side of potatoes, my bone-in tenderloin, even my bread basket, all of it was just top notch. (Seriously I loved that rye bread.) Somehow after everything else, I had room for dessert, which is lucky because I definitely had the best banana cream pie I've ever had. It's actually one of the best desserts I've had, and bear in mind I've been to Patisserie 46. The service, led by the charismatic and knowledgeable Kim, was to a level consistent with the rest of the experience. It was busy but our table was constantly weighed down with plates full of huge portions of these delicacies. This is in the Foshay building in Downtown Minneapolis, so it's a fun, energetic area that brings with it parking challenges. Manny's customers can use the W Hotel's valet parking for nine bucks. That doesn't seem too terrible, considering the convenience of that option, but of course there are other options which will involve various amounts of money and walking. Do what you gotta do and get in there and eat that food. Save room for dessert. You won't regret that. read more

We tools over three tables in the back of the main room and we feasted. Food: everything is supersized. I'm a vegeterian so I didn't try the famous meats but that's what I observed of everything. The portabella mushrooms were surprisingly very tasty and came with 2 delicious creamy sauces. The Caesar salad was nothing special. The famous shredded are tasty but they're literally hash browns. That's all. I had a tuna steak and it was way too big a portion. The quality was fine, but not exceptional considering it was $40.
