After hearing so much about Maple & Ash, I decided to make a reservation for my partner's birthday. The reservation process was pretty standard, and I made sure to book in advance as this place books out quick. We arrived 20 minutes early and were thankful they were able to seat us promptly. For the food we decided to start with the yellowfin tuna tartare and got the ricotta agnolotti aka "pillows of love" as an appetizer. Both were good but the pillows of love was the winner but at 42 dollars I would probably not order again. For the main course we decided to get the masssive "Eisenhower" 40 oz porter house cooked medium rare and a side of Mac and cheese and loaded potato. The Mac and cheese was my favorite side, as they make all of their pasta in house. The chef was also nice enough to throw in some bone marrow and a delcious sauce they made at the table. The bone marrow was really delicious on the steak and the sauce was really good. We also got a bottle of wine and got a complimentary cake and menu. All in all, it was a really good meal and we had a great time at Maple and Ash. The service was okay but given the price and special occasion I would've expected a little more attention from wait staff. There were lulls in the service while we were waiting to order items. I also felt like the price was a little unnecessarily high for some of the dishes. We ended up dropping around 550 total with tip for 2 people. I have experienced better service and more flavorful dishes at competing steak houses in the vicinity for a more competitive price so realistically this will not be my go to but would consider coming back for a special occasion and did leave satisfied with a full belly. read more

TLDR: My experience here makes me want to go back through all my previous 5-star reviews and downgrade 99% of them to 4 stars. We came here early on a Friday evening to celebrate two birthdays. We were sat right away and presented with custom-printed menus for the two birthday people (plus a complementary welcome drink). We ended up doing the "I don't give a f@*k" and never looked back. ALL of the food was incredible, the service was great (thanks, Sara!), and the cadence of all of the courses was perfect. It's the perfect combination of fine dining that's fun and not stuffy feeling. The environment reflects that - high end, but with a fun spin with the music and service. We had the tomahawk steak, seafood tower, lobster, meatballs, wedge salad, pasta pillows, and so much more I can't even think of. I'd have any of it again. I went to this restaurant during quarantine and they provided free masks. The service was quite good, although they did seem to be in something of a rush most of the time. But they were kind and incredibly knowledgeable about their menu. The food was good. Not amazing, but it was fine. More reminiscent of a Fox Concept Restaurant like The Henry or even Culinary dropout. And for food of that quality, the prices are not substantiated in the least. $34 dollars for something like 4oz. The skin was quite fishy and didn't cut through, but the fish itself was incredibly tender and flavorful. Had it been $20 or less, I would have understood. The branzino was about the same price and nowhere near the quality of the salmon. The wedge salad was excellent but small. However, their Sunday tower was incredible. Every item included was exemplary including their toffee was the softest I had ever had. The main reason I enjoyed it was for the bacon. It's practically pork belly in terms of thickness and has a delightfully Smokey flavor. Unlike pork belly, however, it doesn't suffer from excessive fattiness as is common with most pork belly. All in all, this restaurant is certainly good but in no way does it warrant the prices. If you have too much money that you just need to get rid of, this restaurant is a good option. read more

Man...don't even know where to start. I was in AZ for work and took my wife with me. On our last night I wanted to take her out for a nice dinner. Did a search and found Maple & Ash. It was about an hour from our hotel but decided to try it out and so glad we did. When we sat the our waiter, Terry, had a shaker ready to go and was pouring us a drink on the house. Literally the moment we were sitting down. We didn't order any appetizers because the complimentary bread, soppressata and olives was enough and didn't want to spoil the main course. For the main course my wife ordered the seafood platter and I had the filet mignon and we shared a loaded baked potato. Food was good! If I was paying a commensurate premium for just the food, we'd be 5 stars. The reduced rating is due to the environment and service. If I wanted to go to a club in which I couldn't hear my date across the table for the music level, I would have. It was our anniversary and we couldn't have a conversation. We were seated 20 minutes late after our reservation booked months in advance (fine, whatever, COVID and staffing) but it wasn't acknowledged by the hosts, the person who took us to the table, the server, or her trainee. Or maybe it was but I couldn't hear it for the aforementioned tinnitus-inducing environment. Look. I really wanted to love this place. It seemed right up my alley. To start off, I travel around the country and like to try great places. Done the Chicago scene, SF and LA staples. I wanted to find another option in PHX. I think they did a great job with Etta. Food was exceptional. They do it right for service and scene here. The valet parked my car up front with the other nice cars. The reception is fancy and friendly. The drinks are hip and on trend. The service was on point. A Place to be seen for sure. Then you get the food and it falls way flat. So much salt, poor technique and average taste at best. Sorry, but my guests said my home cooking is better. My wife's feet were swollen from all the salt at the end of the night. How does that happen? Haha If food isn't first, then enjoy the scene and some drinks and you'll be happy. Food first? I'd rather save the $175 per person I spent and fly to SF and get a great meal at Gary Danko. If you want a good steak in PHX, best to do steak 44. Scene isn't as fancy, but steak is 5 star. It's 2.5 stars in my book. Sorry guys. Past experiences include Bob's Steak & Chop House, Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak, Fleming's, Mastro's, Steak 44, Guard & Grace, The Capital Grille, Sullivan's and Ruth's Chris to name a few. The service, ambiance and drinks were very good; the food excellent. My 10 oz. filet mignon with Penta Crème Blue Cheese was prepared perfectly and well seasoned; and the Bubbling Potato Gratin (thyme, gruyère & parmesan cheese) and Mac & Cheese (gruyère, savory sprinkles & black pepper) were excellent. Among my top tier dining experiences - joining Fleming's, Guard & Grace, Steak 44 and Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak. Caveat... I'm Celiac and need truly gluten-free options so my ratings typically reflect that. My wife and I came here in Valentines busy and it was very busy. The Heirloom Citrus & Burrata Salad was just ok, the Burrata was very fresh and good but overall wouldn't get it again. Next we went with the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare. We probably wouldn't get again mainly because we it was modified for gluten-free it was missed soy sauce in some form or fashion. For main entrees my wife got the Short Rib Bolognese and loved it. The flavor was exceptional and the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. I went with the 28-day dry aged Ribeye and was disappointed overall. I know ribeye is a fattier cut but this was REALLY fatty. Also it wasn't all that warm when the steak made it to me. I ordered the beefed up butter to drizzle over the top and that saved the dish. Definitely would recommend that as a sauce. We also got the Yukon Gold Gratin and would highly recommend. It was one of the top potatoes gratin we've had. It had a nice crunch to the top and the potatoes were very cheesey and creamy. Just about four hours ago I left Maple & Ash, and for the last four hours my best friend and I are still talking about our experience. Specifically: Jennah!! (I believe her name had an "H" at the end). We had never been there, a place like this is a little intimidating with the prices, dresscode, etc. But it was my friend's bday and we had always talked about going there. I am so happy we made this decision. The first thing that stomped out my "intimidation" feelings was the hostess. Not only was she great at her job, but so friendly and welcoming. It made me feel happy to be seated by her. Our visit (for a birthday) began with a complimentary mini birthday cocktail that within itself was so good, that we got it as our second drink. Everything there is DIVINE. The drinks were fantastic, Jennah was knowledgeable and accommodating with liquor along with our fickle pallets and didn't make us feel like a bother at all. She was great at explaining the ways that flavors come together and the drinks even looked divine! We were all catching up and the restaurant is amazing at noticing you chatting, dropping off lil caviar and bread. Then, we got the seafood tower. I have never been so stunned by how decadent a dish LOOKED, and it tasted out of this world. The variety is perfect, and the oil and chili!!! Girl. All of us don't like oysters and we explained that to Jennah. Not only did she not judge us or make us feel like we were "too much", but reassured us the chef is awesome (she was so right) and it's okay to take some things out. It's safe to say we could've just eaten that entire thing all night and been full and happy (especially with the pasta that comes after). She suggested the rib cap to share, which my two friends got while I got a filet. We overestimated our stomachs and got about 6 sides (please please please get the mashed potatoes I could bathe in them). Everything was literally perfect. My filet was one of the best I've ever had; the temperature was perfect, there was an unreal grill crust that melted with the meat. I cannot explain it to you, you just have to try it. At the end of the night we got some espresso martini shots which she upgraded to tiny little espresso martinis. It was so cute and such a fantastic experience I cannot speak enough praises. Now if you feel any type of way about the prices, you're missing out. You may raise an eyebrow, but I can honestly say: every last thing was worth it and so delicious I didn't even bat an eye. You are genuinely getting what you pay for, and you feel more than satisfied leaving. Finally: our service. I am a bartender 5 days of the week. This job is hard, it tires you out, it can feel like a lot sometimes. I cannot imagine the knowledge a restaurant like this requires and the pressure that can result. Jennah makes this job look easy. She absolutely elevated our entire meal. We are still texting about requesting her every single time. Following this, my steak came out RAW when I asked for medium well. It was hard to cut and had ZERO flavor. The Brussels sprouts were actually Brussel leafs and burnt to a crisp. We had the octopus and carpaccio for appetizer and both were great, but took almost an hour to get to us. The main course we got the pillow of love were the best thing of the night; however the short rib pasta was not anything special, honestly on par with Olive Garden pasta. Both our husbands got the dry aged ribeye but both were salty and just ok. We had the sundae service for desert and while the presentation was great, we thought some of the toppings (the cherries and peanut butter sauce) were off and not edible. This was our first time at Maple and Ash. As soon as we arrived we were put on the waiting list and suggested to take drinks at the bar if we wanted to pass the time. We were told it would take anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to seat us. This was about right. At the bar, our bartender Becca was excellent. Sge allowed me to taste various samples of different wines (Malbec, merlot and Cabernet) until I chose the one that I liked most. She was very attentive and overall did a great job. My husband had a jack and ginger and he said it was perfect. While we are waiting here we also had an appetizer and to be honest it was my favorite plate! (The yellowfin tartare) We closed our tab at the bar because (we asked) becca would not get any of the tip if we transferred our bill to the table and we felt she did a great job. While finishing up our appetizer at the bar the hostess came over and informed us they were ready to seat us. She even offered us a couple different table choices which I thought was very nice and personal. My husband and I both had filet mignon's I had the 8 oz and he had the 10oz. They were both cooked to perfection and overall very good. My only downside is that the entrées are à la cart and do not come with any sides. The sides are served family style and are a completely separate dish. Our fillets were both between $50-$60 and the side dishes were also between $10-$30. We ordered the lobster mac & cheese and brussels sprouts. I wish we had known how big the sides were going to be because we would've only ordered the lobster mac & cheese which was definitely the better of the two although the brussels sprouts were delicious. The service was excellent and I truly have no complaints. Although I would like to just point out that this place is not a place to go for dinner for anything affordable, our bill with drinks and all was close to $400 only for my husband and I. I didn't have any food on my visit tonight. I strictly came for 30th birthday drinks and cocktails. And the service since the second I walked into the door was so beyond friendly and phenomenal I was treated with the upmost respect and birthday royal treatment!! I had the server Tony who was so sweet, and caring consistently checking in on me here and there between all his other guests. As well as amazing guests so sweet sending drinks across the bar and some next to me as a bday treat on them for my dirty thirty celebratory present. I honestly have never had such and amazing and heartwarming/ memorable experience at any restaurant for any birthdays I have had till tonight!!! So beyond thankful and happy I came here for my birthday cocktail drinks before going home after a long day. 100% delicious and cooked to perfection. The hubs and I celebrated my birthday with a happy hour (or Golden Hour) at Maple & Ash. We ordered the meatballs, Alaskan King crab knuckles, lamb chops, hamachi crudo. Everything was delicious. My hubby still raves over the dry-aged meatballs and cannot wait to go back for some more. We will definitely be dining in next time to get the whole restaurant experience. Can't wait! read more
