As the hostess asked my boyfriend to take his hat off when we entered, I felt a little weary of this impromptu decision and was afraid that we were way underdressed. Thankfully once we sat down at the bar, I felt a little more at home with the guest here than those sitting at tables clearly celebrating or prepared for the occasion. As much as we wanted to disprove the hype, I must say both the food and service lived up to the expectations. Atmosphere/ambience/style are 10/10 beautiful and I loved it Food was 5 stars as well, small portions but good quality and yummy (we had the filet, the mushroom ravioli, and the surf n turf. We also had the asparagus on the side to share service was just ok (and the reason for the 3 star overall rating) Definitely had a snobby vibe from the staff which is kind of off-putting. It felt like we had to beg for our waitresses attention. We also were seated back by the corner of the bar and there was a lot of traffic bustling by our table, not the end of the world because I actually did like the big gorgeous booths we got to sit in back there but if that's something that will bug you avoid that area Despite the service being disappointing this place is still worth a visit because it's truly so beautifully designed, and maybe it was just an off night for service. My roommate & I have been eager to try this place and finally decided to go. When we walked in, we noticed how beautiful the restaurant is and we were greeted right away. For entrees we had filets & the ricotta annolotti - all the filets were cooked to perfection & the pasta was great. The meal began with a complimentary cocktail tasting and an amuse bouche of buttered radishes, olives and charcuterie. The dishes that followed were both beautiful and delicious. Our previous experience with Maple and Ash was top-notch which is why I was very excited to take my old-school Chicago father here for his birthday. Unfortunately, after trying for a month to book a table here, we did not succeed. I was interested in having a group of 10 so I filled out the online request form but never received an answer. A week later I emailed again and did receive pricing for three menu options to be served in a private room. I called and left two messages as I had some questions but no one ever called me back. I finally I spoke with Victoria who answered all my questions and sent the contract that billed a minimum of $2500, half non-refundable paid upfront, yet what she previously provided were menu choices ranging from $100-$155 per person. It also mentioned if you stayed over three hours they would charge $150 per person for every 15 minutes. I thanked her for her time and stated I would just book a regular table in the dining room. Heaven forbid we drink and spend money past 8pm. After leaving three messages because they won't book a party in the regular dining room for 10 without managers approval, I never received confirmation. My husband even called and was told we would receive confirmation that evening, but never did. He even confirmed his phone number was correct before hanging up. We ended up calling a different restaurant and booked a table within five minutes with no hassle. Unfortunately I would not recommend this restaurant for any type of large party. There are too many other similar-type restaurants that will easily accommodate celebrations without the drama. read more

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new player in town. Maple & Ash brings a new flare to great steakhouses here in the Valley. You have some outstanding places such as Maestro's Ocean Club, Dominick's, Steak 44, etc, but Maple & Ash holds its own, and could potentially out take them as one of the best steakhouse in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Bold statement? Maybe a fluke? I think not. So I've been to the original location in Chicago, Illinois and it's one of the first experiences that I can remember, paying for an expensive meal and being completely blown away by the customer service. They truly bring the Chicago feel to this Scottsdale location, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The best experience of a steakhouse is truly exceptional service along with outstanding food and drinks. M&A kicks it up a notch and they do the little things that add up. So my brother in laws and I wanted to do a traditional "guys night" and sample some delicious steak and I thought of the usual places, but when M&A opened up, I had to take them to this spot. I made a reservation for 7:45 PM on a Thursday night, it was extremely busy that night, so they were running a little behind. We tried to get a drink at the bar, but the bar was packed full of patrons and it was difficult to get the bartender's attention, so we just went back to the front. Really couldn't blame him, it was 3 dudes trying to get his attention when the bar is crowded with cougars and various scantily clad dressed women. So we were finally seated at 8:10 PM, a little past our reservation time, but since it was so busy, it was fine. Food-The food was outstanding. They bring out some fingers foods like olives and radishes which is a little different from a standard steakhouse. My brother in law ordered the "special" which essentially was the ribeye cap, my other brother in law ordered the filet with half a lobster and I ordered the 22 oz bone in ribeye. The steaks were cook perfectly, probably one of the best steaks I've had in a while. I believe it was 28 days dry aged, which was perfectly tender and had a very "meaty" taste. We shared some sides as well. For dessert we shared the Bananas Foster and Sundae Bar. Customer Service-Top notch and on point. Joseph was our "captain" and did a great job taking care of us and ran point with everything. The complementary martini is a nice touch, and since we waited so long for our drinks, he even offered a free shot to the table. The little things add up. Also I know from experience, generally the wait staff DON"T like doing table side cooking, but Joseph seemed to really enjoy it. We shared the Bananas Foster which was the perfect end to a great dinner. Cons-This place hasn't been opened very long, but there were some things that they can iron out. Drinks all night long took forever. The server repeated told us they were backed up, which caused us to pretty much stop drinking. Multiple servers kept coming to our table, we literally would put our order in several times and just hope our drinks would eventually come out. We were seated in the back, near the outside and the chairs there were uncomfortable and felt cheap. When you go to Mastro's and Dominicks, those seats are very nicely cushioned and well supported. You ever go to a kids birthday party and they have those cheap folded chairs you can rent? I wouldn't go that far, but for a big guy like myself, I wasn't comfortable, especially for a 3 hour dining experience. Overall, I still will give this place a 5 star recommendation, because if they fire on all cylinders, this is probably one of the best places in the valley. I would of liked to come back and try the "I Don't Give A F*CK" meal with my wife, I know she would really enjoy it and the atmosphere. Hopefully next time, this experience will be perfect. Even though the service was slow and drinks took forever to get, the experience still was top notch and Joseph really did a great job communicating with us and kept us on our toes. 2 star review has nothing to do with the food or service. It was all very good for the most part. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary last night and they made us feel special and the food was very good. My 2 star review has everything to do with their deceptive fee they charged. It was over $10 and called "employee benefit" or something of the like. When I inquired about it our server said it was for credit card transactions. He said the restaurant used to make he and the other employees pay for the credit card fees prior to implementing this fee. What?!?! I pressed him further and he said he thinks it also has to do with paying employee benefits. Again, what?!?!? This high end restaurant chooses to make their employees and customers pay for their employees benefits and credit card fees. If that isn't bad enough they do so in a very sneaky way at the bottom of the receipt that most people don't even look at. Anyone who eats here needs to know they are going to try to skim some extra money from you and hope you never even realize. read more

I came for a birthday dinner the other night. The hostess was friendly and sat us at our table once the birthday girl had arrived. After being seated, the waiter came and provided us a prickly pear cocktail to start off the meal. We already knew what we wanted by the time server came back and we requested to order our food and drinks. The server told us to wait to order food and he will come back when we were ready (even though we told him we were already ready ). After waiting another 10 min the server came back and finally took our order. We ordered the seafood tower and some sides to go Along with it. We ordered the pasta to go with it as well since it was recommended. Once the tower was brought out with the sides, we inquired if the pasta was on the way out as well. The person who Brought the food advised they usually wait until someone of the tower has been cleared out so they can add the pasta to the tower and mix it in. We were perfectly fine with that so we proceeded to start eating to make room for the pasta. The scallops and the crab shoulder were my favorite. The oyster meat was smaller than a baby's pinky nail and seemed very over cooked. After clearing out half of the tower, our server finally came back after being gone for about 25 min and came to check on us. We asked if the pasta was coming out and he said to clear out the tower (even though it was half way gone). We asked is that not enough room already and he looked down and said it is. He came back 5-10 min later with a tiny sauce pan and squirted lemon on the pasta. When he was done he poured in the pasta and it took up 20% of the tower at most. He then proceeded to try and stir the pasta with the already cold sauce/oil from the bottom of the pan (it did not work at all LOL). At this point I couldn't help but laugh since this was the amazing pasta we waited for. We were over it at this point since the seafood tower and pasta were the sole reasons the birthday girl wanted to come here. Our waiter was going around and checking all the tables but would not stop by our table. He stopped at the table directly next to us twice before coming and asking did we want the check. He did not seem to care about our concerns regarding the food either throughout the night. After spending $400 we were thoroughly disappointed with the service and the food. I had such high hopes for this well recommended restaurant. The birthday dinner was unfortunately not a success. At least she got a happy birthday menu with her name on it. read more

I put on shirt that looks most formal on me. And have a heron preston sweatpants (the only pants I have with me along the vacation). We got there on time. Other customers wears causal, we found Tshirt Jeans and polo. We thought we would be fine. BUT WE ARE NOT. The waitress, who just seated 3 Americans with Tshirt and sweatpants, kicked us out saying we can NOT let you in with sweatpants. We have dress code and you should follow it. What?
