I came to this place after looking at the wonderful review from other yelpers. My experience is not as good. My girlfriend has two identical pants to alter the length. Had one on to try and measure the length and asked for the same length for the other. Understandable? Not hard. Came out one shorter than the other. There is no way to get the length back because it has already been cut. Tell me what to do about it! Burberry coat alter for sleeve length. Silk lining inside is not altered. The only thing changed is the exterior sleeve. When compared to alteration done in Burberry boutique, alteration done in boutique is done with perfection. Now when my girlfriend wears the Burberry coat altered from Marin, the silk lining is visible outside. Good job. I will bring it back to Burberry boutique in Beverly Hills to save the coat. read more

I was recommended this place for a buddy and decided to come check it out after reading the reviews. I came to get some dress pants shortened and tapered. I tried them on and the tailor started pinning and marking to see where to make it tighter. The tailor gave some advice on what to choose between choices and also advised against other choices. He was great and it made me feel comfortable with the alterations. The pants costs $48 and was done within a week. When picking it up, I tried them on and they looked great. He can multitask with the best of them (my fiancé and I came in on a busy Saturday), easily handling alterations for both of our 3-piece suits, a bunch of custom shirts, as well as a half-dozen customers that were in and out of the store picking up, dropping off or getting fitted. FINALLY!! After reviewing 3 other tailors I finally came across one that speaks my language. Marin tailor took great care of my name brand jeans tapered them and hemmed them.when I asked if they can be done quickly as I need them for my trip his response was "no problem" . great customer service will definitely bring back more of my clothes. Second time coming back and yet this place keeps amazing me on how good they make your clothes look on you perfect fit every time. Tailor's fall in one of two categories for most people. Either they're a necessary evil where you wage a constant inner battle between paying for mediocre/shoddy/suspicious work or just buy a new pair of... whatever or they're awesome because they make you feel a million bucks and you're being taken care of. The latter is how I feel about Marin Tailor Shop. The two gentlemen (whose name I shamefully forget at the moment) were very helpful and considerate of all aspects of the process. I didn't ask them for any very difficult repair work but for something as simple as fixing the hem and lengthening some work pants, they were pretty thorough in measuring and documenting my specific needs and it's reasonably priced. My next visit with them will be a bit more complex since I might need them to fix my tuxedo jacket where the original maker seemed to have done an incomplete job so that will be a more fitting test on whether I like them or not. However, I'm fairly confident I won't be disappointed. read more

When I checked for a cheaper alternative, I found in the internet some DIY tutorials on how to get the same item for a fraction of the cost. I got my materials at Ebay and took them to Marin Tailor Shop .... and Voila!!! I got a beautiful clutch that is the envy of all my friends. I have two tailor. One in Chinatown when it's something simple because they're cheap. Then there's Marin Tailor. Only important articles of clothing goes to them. They do an amazing job and the person that helps with the fitting makes great suggestions. I had a puffy long sleeve that needs to be shortened. I told him how short and he explained why it needs to be a little longer due to the style. Once I got the shirt back and tried it on, he was absolutely right. Same thing with my dress! I really want to give Marin Tailors 5 stars as their customer service is amazing. They do everything from simple jobs like hemming jeans to complicated wedding attire alterations. I've used their services a couple times, first was for a wedding suit as I was a groomsman at my brother's wedding. They did a great job with altering the jacket - I needed the sides taken in and shortening of the sleeves. For the pants I needed them hemmed and tapered. Unfortunately they tapered the pants too much, to the point where I couldn't get my calf through the pants. They were quick to offer a redo on the tapering and said I could pick up the pants the next day. So the next day came around and I went back to try the pants on again and it turns out that they undid most of the taper and the pants were now too loose around the legs. So again they offered to redo the taper and I had to come in one more time at a later date. Fortunately the taper was good on the third try and the suit was ready just in time for the wedding. On a separate occasion I brought in a couple pairs of jeans for a basic hem ($10 a pair). I wanted a quick turn around and they were able to accommodate a next day pick up which was really convenient. The work on the jeans was perfect. Again, the customer service at Marin tailors is amazing. Both Alex and Diego are great guys and will try to make sure you are happy at the end of the day. I'm taking one star off because I had to come back multiple times to fix an issue with the suit pants. At the end of the day I walked away happy with the results; it was just a bit troublesome to have to go back so many times, versus getting it right on they very first try. One additional mention is that there is no free parking, so expect to feed the meter when you visit. read more

Stay away! They quoted me $1,200!!! For wedding dress alterations which I ended up paying less than $300 for. When I asked why it's so expensive they gave the most ridiculous excuse about the fabric being hard to cut even though it's just a simple tulle fabric. This seems to be some kind of fraud or a way to scare costumes away. read more

This is the 2nd time I took something to them and they quoted me over 3X what someone else did who is JUST up the street. First time I brought a bridesmaid dress that had some beading work to do in order to hem it, just a hem, and they quoted me $450! They said the cheapest anyone would do it for was $150. I took it up the street to "Maria Custom Made Tailoring & Alterations" and she did a perfect job for $75. I just brought in another jacket this morning to Marin's and they said over $400 again just to take in both lower back sides & shoulder width. They said it's impossible to take in arm holes, lol! Which I've had done to ALL my jackets for decades so I took it to Mary's again. She's tailoring eeeevery part of the jacket (sleeves, front, back, length, shoulders, etc) that needed to be taken in and all for $80. I'll never be going to Marin's again. Not sure why it's so difficult and expensive for them to do basic things. read more

I bought a new suit and my wife couldn't make it to see it. Thankfully Marin Tailor had my back. I asked him about the fit and he provided candid feedback, saying the coat while it fit OK in length and in the sleeves, it was a bit boxy for me - I'm 5'5 and a 38S. He asked me if I paid a lot of money and I paid just under $500. My main concern was getting the pants tailored and then being stuck with a suit that really looked a few season out of date. The reason that I come here is they do really good work on the all the pants I've had hemed - and a prior suit coat adjustment. He pointed out where in the coat it looked boxy so I didn't get the pants hemmed and brought it home to my wife - who wound up concuring with the guy at the shop. He had my back and because the prices are fair, the job always well done, the service speedy - they have a loyal customer. Keep in mind I live in Studio City so there's a couple of places around here I trust, but they have earned my business. Further, he recommended a suit shop in the Century City Mall I should check out and I will. Thanks for saving me $500 on a suit - while very nice - that didn't fit me well.
