It's been many years since I stepped foot here but this was one place that our friend was able to eat due to her food allergies. We arrive about 1/2 hour before closing time and placed our order fairly quickly. There were still a few diners while we were there. Our dishes were very good, especially the eggplant ricotta pizzette. They didn't rush us which was nice. There is plenty of table and booth seating due to a second floor. Haven't been here in years since we sold my childhood home not too far away. Went yesterday, a Monday, for lunch at 12:30. It was relatively quiet inside and we were promptly seated. Mario's has the standard pizza counter to order/ takeout as well. Situated in the former Friendly's that I used to go to all the time, you wouldn't know that to be the case as there is a second story addition and lots of light coming in. Nicholas was our server and he was great ( heads up management!!) He was quite attentive, friendly and professional. He brought us a basket of garlic knots and a roll, the latter which we didn't try because the garlic knots were so good. My husband ordered the personal pizzett, which was yummy . He almost ordered a second one, as we usually order a full sized pie when we get pizza... but I wanted an eggplant parmigiana hero. It was great-- toasty roll on the outside, soft on the inside and lots of chicken, mozzarella and not too much sauce. I took home half. My brother's order of chicken noodle soup, which I forgot to photo, looked great: it was a large bowl ( surprising as he got the "pick two" lunch option, which he chose a sandwich), had lots of noodles, and was red (? tomato bae), which I don't think I've had before). I have ate at Mario's a bunch in the past few weeks and the meals I have had have all been good. I've tried multiple different types of slices and I have enjoyed all of them. I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken mini rolls, the eggplant pizza and the regular slices. Altogether, this is a pretty solid pizza place. Typical pizza spot - the service was quick and welcoming and the slices were enough to fill you up. Decent variety to choose from - I ordered a buffalo chicken slice and a regular slice and was full after eating the buffalo slice. They also had these sugar knots/balls avail, which were good. After a day of running errands with the kids, I had no energy to cook dinner. So we went straight to Mario! This restaurant is cozy and beautifully decorated, always impeccably clean. It feels like going to a relative house when I eat here. It does not matter if we are all dressed up to go out to dinner or if we go just the way we were right after grocery shopping. The service here is WELCOMING. Some restaurants will treat you differently if you are not dressed up nicely, well, not here! We were welcomed just the same. The food is amazing, as always! I don't know why I keep giving them a chance when they're honestly terrible most of the time but the last time was the final straw. Only ordered here cause my go to place was closed and we had people over who needed food stat. I was craving a baked ziti pie so didn't matter where it was from, I was getting in. $35 later, my pie is delivered and I'd be lying if I said I was nervous from the start, but again, needed food and needed it fast. I open the box and I'm mad...and embarrassed... No really, before I even let my guests see the pizza, I told them this wasn't my usual and I owe them better pizza. My baked ziti pie had minimal sauce, but the kicker, cooked, plain pasta on top. I'm talking they just strained it from the pot of water and dropped it on top of the pie and drizzled it with sauce. No flavor, not enough sauce, usual amount of cheese for a cheese pie, which isn't enough for a baked ziti pie. Awful. Never again. I know I did this to myself but that was really the last straw. Been eating at tis restaurant for several years and decided to cater Christmas Eve dinner. Part of my order was for a half of tray of Chicken Cutlets. When I got home after picking up the food I looked at the chicken cutlets and there was 8 chicken cutlets in the tray (over cooked and dry). Seemed a little short for the $60 cost. I called them back and they said it should have been 9 cutlets. I said that still is pretty small.. I said forget about it he said O No you are entitled to it.. At that point I ended the lengthily conversation and called my local Restaurant and had 8 more cutlets made for $34 So you can judge by the photo attached. My family really loves their pizza and entrees, but the reason that I'm throwing this review in tonight is what I just posted on my local Facebook dads group: Shout out to Mario's tonight! Work gave us $20 in Uber Eats cash as a treat tonight, so I did pickup for Mario's. The app apparently didn't translate properly that I wanted a half-topped pizza; my kid only eats plain pizza. Instead of getting angry or sending me away, he heated up a couple of plain slices for my daughter and didn't charge me extra. Got take out and was severely disappointed. We ordered the drunken Sicilian pie which is supposed to be sort of a grandma pizza with vodka sauce. We received what looked like a round white pie with a sprinkle of sauce. It was oily and sad. We also ordered penne bolognese which had a nice flavor but didn't have enough sauce so ended up being very dry. Overall this was not worth the price. Had my son's Christening party in the upstairs party room and everything was fantastic. Nick helped us create a great menu for our guests, set-up tables perfectly for our guests, and even had extra tables for the kids to play at. The waiters were fantastic and accommodating. I've been here about a half dozen times over the years, once for an office retirement dinner party upstairs, the rest for lunch. It's hit or miss at times (as the reviews show), both as to food and service. I was there today with my wife for lunch and it was a hit. We started with soup, her with chicken noodle and me with minestrone. We agreed, happily surprised, that they were delicious. The portions were sufficient, with the nice rolls and butter that came with them, to constitute lunch and both seemed homemade. I was impressed that unlike some heavy-on-the-beans minestrone soups, this one only had a few, and was relatively light. Our entree was the modest vegetable pizzetta (broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, red peppers, carmelized onions, tomato sauce and mozarella cheese over a thin crust with a thick handle), which was enough for the two of us and exactly what we hoped for. Sometimes, what you order in a restaurant colors the way you feel about it. In fact, what draws me back to particular restaurants are particular dishes I've enjoyed. Next time we're back to Mario's for lunch, we'll probably order exactly what we had today. read more

We went to Mario's for our third grade field trip. We thought Mario's was amazing. The food was delicious. The pizza was crunchy and cheesy. The chicken fingers were crispy and well-cooked. The garlic knots were hot and soft. The sugar knots were sugary and sweet. We felt like we were in Italy. The room we ate in was fancy and had pretty plants and lighting. The service was fast and the servers were friendly. They brought us what we needed as fast as they could. We would recommend Mario's to everyone, especially families with kids! My husband had the penne a la vodka with grilled chicken and I had a grilled chicken salad and a buffalo chicken slice. How can an owner be so foolish to upset 6 regular customers so badly that he lost them?! On Friday 13, the tall owner, I believe his name is Peter, at the Mario's restaurant at 635 Old Country Rd., Plainview, did just that. We went once or twice a week for years for dinner and drinks, and had multiple parties upstairs. My friend is a baker and always brings her special occasion cake to Mario's restaurant without a problem. Friday she made a cake celebrating 2 of the regular's birthdays and brought it. The owner, would not allow it. He caused an embarrassing scene demanding $9 a guest to cut the cake for us. He said he'd be losing money if he permitted customers to bring their own cake. He could have done it very discreetly for customers your wait staff knows very well. He embarrassed us all in front of the entire restaurant, in our own neighborhood! He was condescending, rude, and disrespectful to people who bring him customers and money. A friendly, caring owner would have bought us a round of drinks as a thank you for being such great customers and celebrate the special days at Mario's restaurant. We will never go back for any reason. The 6 of his once loyal customers will not be walking into his restaurant again. He lost at lot more than $63! read more

But I will tell you this: The best deal about this Mario's is that if you are with a bunch of people who are on a budget, you can order a Sicilian or round pie and if managed well, you will come out full with only spending a max of $6. PLUSSSS+++ The bread and garlic knots are FREE. You can get refillable, unlimited bread and knots for FREE. That is the only reason I come here.. not for the pasta (maybe occasionally if I have some money to spend?), not for the appetizers, not for all the other entrees, BUT for that pie you can order to share with a bunch of grown people AND you get free bread and garlic knots!!! read more

After ordering some apps and feeling that they were subpar I went with the steak dish and was very disappointed. I asked for medium and the steak was over cooked not juicy at all and had 0 FLAVOR. We gave Mario's a unique opportunity tonight when we dined there after almost 24 hours without eating. Being that hungry, most anything would have been satiating. I mean we were ravenous. The food here, however, is just not nearly on point; with so many amazing Italian bistro's everywhere on Nassau county, a chef has got to be up on his game. The dinner salad needs a little taste; throw some salt, pepper and oregano into a yummy olive oil and perhaps your customers will smile and be under 65 years old. Calamari fritti was not crispy and quite chewy inside. The eggplant parmigiana was good, nice and tasty and cooked well, but served beside penne that had nothing to it, particularly a sauce that .... alright, you get the idea, no need to beat a dead horse. Stick this pizzeria anywhere outside of the tristate area and this place would be golden. Unfortunately, in Plainview, Mario's pizza falls short in the crust category. My Mario's experience is primarily based on the online delivery order that arrived way faster that the expected time online, which was a superb surprise! The slices are HUGE and the bottom of the crust was still crunchy, even with delivery. Even the cheese was still melty While I enjoyed my specialty slices quite a bit I found the cheese one lacking in that pizzaz that makes Long Island pizza so addicting. Additionally all three slices had a tiny half and inch, crouton textured outer crust. As a crust lover that's not going to pass. Side note: the garlic knots here BOMB. They have all the key traits of a proper pizzeria garlic knot: super oily, garlicky and parm-y and keep me coming back again and again. read more

This review is strictly regarding a takeout order of a veal parmigiana hero that was delicious and a few slices (grandma, chicken Marsala, & a regular) that were great. The veal was so tender, fresh bread, just enough sauce and cheese. The Marsala slice very flavorful as were the other slices. This place is huge, with an upstairs dining as well as lower dining areas and it was packed. I saw dinners passing that looked great and customer service was excellent. I was in Plainview visiting a friend of mine and we were hungry and headed to another place a little further away, however we passed Mario's and saw how crowded the parking lot was so we decided to u-turn and go back. We were very happy we did! The first thing you're greeted with is a waiter who smiles and welcomes you to the restaurant...a true genuine smile, which would set the tone for the rest of the evening. The service was spectacular, the food was excellent: We had mozzarella sticks, meatballs, Caesar salad, chicken Parmesan and the tortellini bolognese, with some sauteed broccoli with garlic. We just had a private party at Mario's Ristorante and I could not be happier with how everything went. Booking it was super simple and they were very flexible with our options. The private room is beautiful and everything including bathrooms is conveniently right there. All of the food was amazing, from the salads to the entrees to the desserts, and the service was perfect - very attentive without being overbearing. When we got the bill it ended up being exactly what we discussed with no surprises, and it was actually very reasonable for what we got. I honestly wouldn't change a thing about our experience. Visited this restaurant while visiting family. We easily dropped in without reservations. The customer service was very good. I loved that they have gluten free and veggie noodle options. They have a nice wine menu but mixed drinks is something they need to work on. When I asked what drinks the bartender could make the waiter said that they didn't have a bartender and nobody could help me. Please note that they have all the mixers there for everyone to see AND I also saw another diner with a mixed drink. So this seems to be a training issue for staff. I would think the owner would prefer to sell as many mixed drinks as a customer is willing to pay for. The restaurant should offer a mixed drink menu - so I took 1 star off for this reason. read more
