    Quail lollipops
    Lucy W. H.

Best dinner we had in Seattle this visit. The Uni flan was our favorite. Roasted carrots excellent. Paella a tad greasy but love the crunchy bits. Quail lollipops lovely and playful. Foam on the margarita atlantico has a wonderful smokiness.

    Pintor de Cordoniz

We came for their happy hour when they opened. We ordered pint o de cordoniz, croquets de jamón, and olivos. They were all super delicious. I would definitely order them again, especially the pint ox de cordoniz which were quail lollipops (see photo). The place was gorgeous with great music.

Reservations: Super easy to book online Parking: Street parking available - lots of spots at 4:30pm Saturday but Capitol Hill fills up quick on the weekends. Service: Excellent. Happy hour is only served at the bar, but we actually loved that - it made the experience feel more personal. We were closer to the staff, and they were attentive, friendly, and consistently checked in on us. Food: We came for the paella but stayed for the Patatas Bravas. If I could recommend just one thing, this would be it. Perfectly crispy with an incredible sauce that had just the right balance of flavor. The happy hour tapas portions were ideal because they let us try a variety of dishes without overcommitting. The calamari was enjoyable overall, though the breading leaned a bit salty, especially when paired with the sauce. I'd skip the Fideuà de Marisco. Thankfully, we ordered a half portion. The toasted noodles had more of an oily, heavy texture rather than the satisfying "crunch" we expected, and the rockfish didn't stand out in flavor. Overall, a great happy hour spot with standout tapas - just choose your mains wisely!

First of all, amazing service by the staff, kind, helpful, and extremely attentive! My favorite dish, which I didn't take a picture of, is the POLBO A FEIRA (get this, you will not regret it!!!) omg the octopus was cooked perfectly, and the crispy potatoes, mmmhmm so good with a hint of that chili oil, was just so good! Started off the night with the Patatas Bravas, Croquetas de Jamón, Calabaza al Horno, Remolacha con Cana de Cabra, with bread to share. For drinks, I had the Xamin Vespera and their 2021 Buil & Gine Red Blend, and I absolutely enjoyed both. For dessert, the flan was amazing! (No notes). Amazing experience, really fun place, and beautiful decor. On the way to the bathroom, there are framed recipes, which adds a nice touch.

I really loved the cozy ambiance but there were some hits and misses with the food selection that we ordered. Started off with the quail legs which were tender and well seasoned. We ordered the patatas bravas which were probably my favorite part since they were super crispy yet fluffy on the inside. From there we tried the beets and goat cheese which didn't stand out to me, the paella which was crispy but seemed overly oily, and grilled octopus which was fine but again nothing that really stood out. Service was kind though!

Absolutely the highlight of our trip to Seattle. We had some amazing meals this weekend, but the food, service and ambiance of MariPili was a stop above everything else. The décor immediately sets the stage for the meal, with a carefully collected variety of Spanish signage, photos, knickknacks and other accoutrement selected by Chef Grayson Pilar. Walking through the space to your table, you are already are primed for personalized experience. The individual plates are surely a good way to go, but the tasting menu feels like the star of the show at such a special and varied place. The menu is brought out in segments, giving you a connected set of small bites to explore and enjoy. The Flan de Erizo was an unforgettable dish for me, the brown butter mushrooms and albarino caramel adding a depth to a rich urchin based flan, something I have never even imagined before. The Croqueta de Bacalao was a delectable fried bite that transported you to the Spanish seaside with some of the best Cod I have ever had. The Cochinillo con Zorza is an absolute treat, an amazing pork dish cooked perfectly and tenderly. Drinks were great, the Fume e Albaricoques was a perfectly balanced but punchy mix of various liquors and garnished by a hearty but not overwhelming Applewood smoke. The Margarita Atlantica is a drink after my own heart, refreshing citrus, smokey mezcal and a punch of chili to balance it out. The Carajillo was a perfect nightcap, with high quality espresso to make it a true treat. Service was amazing, Chef Grayson walked us through some of the dishes herself, with the amazing waitstaff helping us through the rest of the meal. We will be waiting patiently to come back to Seattle and see what else MariPili has in store for us.

Remolacha con Caña de Cabra - Berta with Goat Cheese

My true rating would be 3.5, I wanted to try Mari Pili for 2 years and finally did last Friday. It was easy to get a reservation just 1 hour before. The restaurant is quite small but pleasant, and with good ambiance. I thought the service was excellent! My friend and I ordered: - Patatas bravas: they were good, best part was the sauce. 4 stars - Remolacha con Caña de Cabra (Beets with goat cheese): just ok. I found the beets too firm, almost uncooked. 2.5 stars - Filete con Pimientos de Padrón (hanger steak): just ok, 3 stars - Paella: pretty good. 4 stars - Tarta de Santiago (almond cake): really delicious! The one thing I tried from their menu that would actually get me to go back.

Came here for dinner with friends after making a reservation online. We were seated right away and got a great table with plenty of light and a fun, unique interior. We tried a variety of dishes based on our server's recommendations. The patatas bravas were a little underwhelming, but the croquetas de jamon and the paella tahdig were amazing. Everything else we ordered was enjoyable overall. Such a good spot for tapas with friends, and I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

MariPili's food was fantastic, definitely one of the better restaurants in Seattle and one of the few European tapas options, alongside places like Itto's. My only hesitation to being a regular is the price. The cocktails were fine but not super memorable. The octopus and carpaccio and most everything I ordered was delicious, and service attentive. I'd highly recommend.

Still fantastic, still great service--missing the authentic Spanish churros previous customers ruined for the rest of us because they're expecting Mexican churros in a Spanish restaurant/bar? I'm so sorry to hear they had to remove them from the menu. I wanted to kicked off my birthday week with some churro perfection, at least we still had so many other delicious works of art served and still available. This time we ventured off the HH menu more and didn't opt for the 13 course meal. We tried all but two of the HH menu and 3 of the tapas options. So grateful the paella is one both my chorizo-loving honey and my seafood loving self can both enjoy. The croissant was a pillowy honey loving surprise and the HH burger was so perfect we ordered another. The tomato was so garden fresh, I can't stop thinking about it and we have garden fresh tomatoes at home! I'm trying to do better and end up here every quarter to sample the seasonal offerings more. One of the best finds from SRW. Grateful they take up space to expand our diverse PNW palates.

This was a great place for tapas!! The service was excellent and so was the food and wine. Next time I will try the tasting menu so I can have everything.

I finally got a reservation --this place has been super hyped lately. The vibe is cozy and perfect for a drink, and everyone was genuinely friendly. But the food... was a bit of a roller coaster. It started strong: the Citricos y Finuncho salad was fantastic--bright, crisp, and the fennel aroma made it even better. Next came the croquettes de jamón, salty, creamy, and just right with wine. The photos came out blurry so I can't post them, but after that we had the polbo a Feira (octopus) and calabaza horneado (acorn squash). I was really looking forward to the octopus, but it was completely under-seasoned and just... bland. The squash, on the other hand, was delicious--the nutty sauce added so much depth. Then came the main event: the chuletas de cordero. And honestly, this is where I got disappointed. Four pieces of lamb, thinner than LA galbi, and overcooked to the point of being tough. For a dish I waited a month to try, it was a letdown. At this point, I think this place is better for grabbing a drink at the bar and maybe a couple of small bites. The food was just too hit-or-miss for me.

This was the best meal we had on our Seattle trip! MariPili is a Spanish tapas bar and restaurant run by Chef Grayson Pilar. The cuisine focuses on traditional Galician styles and flavors (a region of Spain I was not at all familiar with). The ambiance is cozy and authentic, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. Our group decided to do the tasting menu with a few extra dishes thrown in, in order to get maximum exposure. PSA: You get every bite of the tasting menu (no need to select one item per course)! We started with breaded olives stuffed with cheese and chorizo (and fought over the last ones), and the meal only went up from there. There were new foods and new flavors and preparations I had never seen nor heard of before, all presented beautifully. I can't talk about every bite, but I will try to mention my highlights from each course. The green pepper gazpacho was a delight for someone who doesn't typically care for tomato-based gazpacho. The quail lollipops were perfectly tender and crispy. A perfect bite. From the second round, the croquet with sultana caramel was my favorite. The third tasting course looked like pastry, it was so beautiful. I was in awe of the San Simon, with shortbread made with drippings and that bright apple bite. This restaurant uses all the parts of the animal, so there is minimal waste. The sausage croissants sell out, so make you snag one early if you want to try one! I loved the shrimp paella, and the octopus with potatoes was one of my favorite dishes in an entire meal of standouts!! The mushrooms with the braised rabbit haunch were also extraordinary. For dessert, my advice is: Get weird. I'm telling you. We had the tomato custard tart with black garlic ice cream and the manchego cheesecake with grape compote, at the recommendation of our server, and I am so glad we did! They were nothing like I expected and I would get both again! Chef Grayson is a genius! The carajillo cocktail was a great way to finish off the meal, even for me, who is not typically a coffee drinker! What an absolutely extraordinary experience. I need to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Is it easy to tell from the menu which items are (or can be) gluten free? We'll be there this weekend.

One of the waitstaff's first questions for you once you are seated is if there are any diet or allergy restrictions among your party. They will guide you through the menu based on that. Hope that helps!

Which menu items are gluten free?

We have a wide variety of gluten free items on our menu. Some highlights from the hot tapas menu that are gluten free is our Paella Tahdig, Abuela's Garbanzos, and Broccolio con Flan De Queso. We also have gluten free entrees and desserts!

We did a belated Christmas gift exchange with friends recently and our friends made reservations here. So glad they did! It's literally right down in the main Bellevue Square hub, so we were able to easily park at the mall and make a short walk to Castilla. Vibes were perfect with low lighting but still a bustling atmosphere. Our server (unfortunately forgot his name) kept solid recommendations coming all night and was so funny and personable! As this is a tapas spot, we tried quite a few dishes and split them amongst the table. Mixta Paella: our server promised us that the smaller size paella was good for 2-4 people and man he was RIGHT. The portion was absolutely insane and I don't think we even finished all of it. Everything tasted so fresh and there was so much flavor to the dish. They warn you ahead of time, but plan for the paella to take 30 minutes for them to prepare. Grilled Octopus Leg: Every time I have octopus (which is two times now LOL) I'm a little worried about the texture, but it was prepared beautifully here and the sauce that it was in was delicious. Salmon & Artichoke Dip: I'm a sucker for any type of artichoke dip and this was no exception. Creamy, rich, and great flavor! Beef Medallions: Tender and cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend. Chorizo & Onion Empanada: Another banger. So crispy and the filling was so good! I actually was on the fence about this one but my husband insisted, and it was a good choice. Patatas Aioli: Crispy layered potato with a garlic aioli? I mean, come on. You can't go wrong. Delicious. This was our first visit to Castilla and I'm sure it won't be the last - would definitely return if I'm dining up again in Bellevue!

I had made a reservation in advance by phone. When we arrived, however, the restaurant told us they could not find our reservation. While mistakes can happen, the interaction felt dismissive from the very beginning. After we were eventually seated, we were not given menus, even though other guests around us received theirs immediately. We waited and asked multiple times but were still left without menus. Eventually, I tried to get the attention of the front desk and asked for a menu. Instead of helping us, the owner came over and told us that we were being "not polite" and that because we were "not polite," we would not be given a menu. Wanting to document our experience, I posted a Google review while we were waiting. Shortly afterward, the owner came directly to our table with the review on her phone and confronted us about it while we were eating. I politely asked if we could discuss it after the meal, but was told that we needed to change the review immediately or leave the restaurant. I was honestly shocked. I've never experienced a restaurant owner approaching diners during their meal and pressuring them to modify a review. This was my father's birthday dinner, and the confrontation made the entire evening uncomfortable and upsetting for my family. To make matters worse, after we got home, we realized that one of the dishes we ordered was never served at all, and no one noticed throughout the entire meal. I understand that service mistakes can happen. Losing a reservation, forgetting menus, or missing an item can all be corrected. What disappointed me most was how these issues were handled. Instead of acknowledging the problems, we were blamed, confronted, and pressured to change our feedback. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe future customers deserve to know about our experience.

Just glancing at the menu during a stroll in Cap Hill interested me and I wanted to give this place a try. Paid a visit on a Friday around 6PM and was able to get a table fairly quickly. There are parking garages in the building that Nue is located at, though I am not sure about parking validation. There should be plenty of street parking as the restaurant is located more on the outskirts of Cap Hill. I got to the restaurant via a 10 minute walk from the nearest light rail station. Service was a bit slow when went, I think after we were seated, there unfortunately were two large groups that can in afterwards. We had to flag down the service workers to place our order and get the check. As for the food, it came out after 10 minutes one at a time. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, lots of memorabilia from various countries and even the check came out in a passport-esque binder. We got a couple of things, which I'll review down below: Carribean Pineapple Cornbread ($8): Tasty cornbread that has nice coconut flakes spread through the batter and around the cornbreads. The cornbread was moist and there is a pineapple undertone in the flavor profile. One downside was that the quantity is quite small, I think for the price, you get like 2 3x3 squares of cornbread, which I think is unfortunately not enough as an appetizer even. Chengdu Wings ($24): These wings do have a tasty flavor profile and have a fragrant aroma when you bite into them. The batter is crispy and they are pleasing to eat! Once again, I unfortunately think the suffers in terms of quantity - you maybe get like 3 wings for $24, which I personally think is a very steep price for fried chicken wings, regardless of the flavor profile. I understand that not everyone can handle very spicy flavor, and personally think that despite the name being Chengdu Wings, it serves as a good entry to Sichuanese cuisine for people given the motivation of the restaurant. Malaysian Dhal ($22): A pleasant dish that has a fragrant coconut, lime, and lemongrass flavor that represents the flavors of Malaysia well. The stew has a pleasant consistency and each bite coats your tongue with the fragrant flavors. The roti is flaky on the outside and soft on the inside - perfect for enjoying this dish. African Bunny Chow ($24): Probably the most filling dish that we have ordered at Nue - I think if you are hungry, maybe go for this one. There is a decent amount of meat in this dish, and the flavors are tasty - it feels like a slightly more toned down Dhal in terms of fragrance, but has a pleasant thicker consistency. In the end, I think Nue is better served as a Tapas-esque restaurant than a place you would visit if you are hungry. Prices vs. quantity does suffer quite a bit at Nue unfortunately, which is why I think it serves as a place to sample cuisines in a night out and then maybe visit elsewhere to complete your dinner. The food is flavorful and pleasing to the general audience, which is a good thing for people who generally aren't very adventurous in their culinary horizons. I'm not sure I would revisit, but I would definitely recommend this to people that lean more on the safer side of dining out.

First of all, shout out to my guy Nate who was a tremendous server. Not only does he have a strong name, but he helped a brother out who had a fly in his beer. Good guy. We had an idea of all of the dishes that we wanted to try, but he was the shepherd that steered us towards the star of the show - the halloumi. The crispy cheese is a fantastic bite on its own, but the salad and peppers that accompany it add such a perfect balance to this plate. It's almost like eating a mozzarella stick, but just with better cheese. Let me tell you about the shrimp though. These lil puppies are bathing in a garlic butter sauce that is begging to be sipped on like a fine wine. The bread is an ideal vessel for soaking up that sauce and creating an open faced shrimpy sando. During our journey through these tapas, we discovered that the best part of the experience is trying to get a piece of everything from multiple plates to create the perfect bite. Since all of them are so well-balanced, you can mix and match whatever you want to make your wildest dreams come true. This made the dinner infinitely more fun than your average night out. The beans were just kinda mid though. You can skip 'em. Would recommend for solid food and a great time in Ballard!

The staff are very friendly and enjoyable to chat with. For restaurant week there's a Matcha drink, which is fabulous. We were able to talk to the bartender who created the drink and I'm very impressed at how smooth it was. Food was delicious (plates are on the smaller side, but again great for sharing.) The bathroom was extensively decorated which was fun. Will be back!

The first time we ordered buffalo wings and cocktails and had a great time. The wings were crispy and the drinks were tasty and strong. The second time we ordered gochujang wings, tacos, and drinks. The wings were covered in just straight gochujang which was a little disappointing. We would have preferred more of a sauce, with some soy sauce and/or honey to balance it out. The tacos were pretty good, but our main issue is that the bartender forgot about my boyfriend's drink. We figured it was just a one-time thing because there was only one guy taking orders, making drinks, bringing everything else, but unfortunately we had the same thing happen again. Once again, we ordered a couple drinks and the bartender forgot about my boyfriend's drink. The place was pretty busy, and once again it was one guy handling everything. I don't know what the problem is, if they need a better system of taking orders or if they need better staffing. Either way, this place has a lot of potential and it's unfortunate to see it wasted with bad service.

Was especially interested in coming after knowing the bar manager (Sarah) has won awards in the industry. We tried: - Apricot Old fashioned $10 - great value! Strong with a hint of apricot. - Classic Martini $11 - it was Martini month when we went so martinis were featured with great prices! Definitely not my fave martini in the city but could not beat this price and it was enjoyable still. - Mezcal drink (I think it was the Sea Senora) $18, I had this and loved it. I'm a fan of mezcal and this was no exception. Great flavors. - Lamb Crepinette $17 on HH, we all enjoyed this! Not too "lamb-y" if that makes sense. - Point Judith Squid Salad - $14 on HH, I really enjoyed this salad as it reminded me of Spain/Portugal, which I'm a huge fan of. The squid was really tender and went well with the beans and olives. Super cute vibes inside and everything is really aesthetic but also great flavor/execution. I already want to go back to try more.

That was a little awkward (but obviously not the restaurant's fault, just an FYI). It does have giant windows, lovely staff, and $2 off plates for happy hour. I really enjoyed the lamb and the mai tai, and definitely order those again.
