I took my team to Mariposa's for a work lunch, and everyone raved about it! It was easy to make a reservation for our large group of around 15 people, and the table was ready and waiting when we arrived. The decor is eye-catching and fun, and the service could not have been any better. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and patient as folks navigated the menu and asked questions about portion size, ingredients, etc. The food came out pretty quickly given how many orders we had! Everyone enjoyed their meals, and several of us asked for to-go boxes to take leftovers home, because the portion sizes were fairly large and a great value for the price. My love and I had the MOST sensational dinner here on Saturday night. The hospitality is outstanding, and the food- oh my goodness, such stunning vibrant fresh flavors using impeccably fresh ingredients STRAIGHT from Peru. You will not regret coming here, we just wish we had been hungrier, because I could have ordered everything on the menu and cocktail list. The decor and ambience is so cool and pretty with these gorgeous butterflies that light up- you feel like you are immersed in a beautiful jungle- selfie queens indulge! (Check out the bathroom, it's so cute!) I thoroughly enjoyed the Ceviche Carretillero- it was zingy, fresh and the Choclo added a moreish savory creaminess. The Chicken Tallarin Saltado which is a noodle dish, was absolutely umame and delicious. We also got the Chiccaron De Polo (fried chook) but like you haven't had before- as for ALL the sauces, including spicy- they are delicious and the chicken was moist, crunchy and perfectly cooked. I had the Chicha Sour cocktail- it paired more than perfectly with the food and I really enjoyed trying chicha for the first time- give me more!! Enjoyed my first time here! Went with family who was in town for work. We were looking for a place that was walking distance from their hotel that had a variety of menu options. We ended up ordering a quarter chicken, loaded fries, and chicharrones. The place was not busy when we went (late Sunday afternoon) and so we got very great attention from our server. The inside of the restaurant is very "instagrammable" but very tasteful/pretty. We sat by the garden wall right by the entrance. Yay! An additional Peruvian restaurant in SF. I'd failed to notice this new one (3 months old) had gone in at the street level of the 5th and Mission parking garage. I was on the hunt for lunch anyway, so it piqued my interest. It's cute inside. The theme (duh) is mariposas (butterflies). Simulated garden walls, green grass floor, dangling butterfly pendant lights and neon butterflies and and angel. Bar with stools and a backlit kick panel of more butterflies. Plenty of 2 and 4 top seating. I bet this place looks very cool after the sun goes down. Food: very, very good. I had the ceviche clasico to start. Fish was super fresh, had hominy, corn nuts, micro greens with slivers of red onion and a punchy leche de tigre. All top notch. Main was 1/4 dark meat chicken (pollo a la brasa) with white rice and salad. Chicken was seasoned perfectly, and had a crispy skin with exactly the right amount of char around the edges. Salad was fresh, well dressed and tasty. Jose, who was working FoH was very nice and answered all of my curious questions about this new (for me) restaurant. Let's face it -- Peruvian food in SF is expensive. Fresh fish and other ingredients ain't cheap. Nor is floor space at 5th/Mission. I was at the Moma with my husband and we were looking for food nearby, I thought the metreon would have good options but it was a sweltering ghost town. Found this spot on Yelp nearby and we walked over. I loved the kitchy butterfly decor and fake grass. They really went for it and created a whimsical ambience. I ordered the roasted chicken and it was so flavorful and juicy. I love yucca so I got that as my side, it paired well with the two sauces provided. Nothing went wrong, but I was fooled by Yelp once again. This place had a 4.6 star as of Sept-2024. The waitress was professional. That's about all good that I can say. The restaurant itself is in a rundown part of Mission St southwest of the Metreon IMAX theaters. These units have a low ceiling that make the place almost like a dingy basement. The interior floor was artificial turf. The inside was dimly lit. Medium level cleanliness. The decor consisted of plastic butterfly light diffusers on an irregularly painted mint green (low) ceiling. The bar counter wall (by people's feet) was butterfly photos with led lighting behind it. I ordered chicken loaded fries. I have nothing positive to say about it other than if one were totally drunk, it might pass for decent food. Think a quarter rotisserie chicken from the supermarket (a low mid tier supermarket) pulled apart, and thrown together with frozen air-fried potato fries (or crisps for you Brits). On this monstrosity was a drenching of honey Dijon mustard and mayo which they call aioli. The dominant flavor is Heinz-like condiment, mustard. I feel like I drank a quarter bottle of honey dijon mustard. There were a few dollops of ordinary ketchup that didn't make a difference. Miscellaneous melted shredded Mexican cheese or something close to it was mixed into this dish too, but it didn't add anything nor change the fact that everything tasted like honey dijon. It's a survival meal almost. I was 4-5 whisky shots too sober for any of this to be tasty. Please, next time, use more honey Dijon mustard! read more

Wonderful location situated in the heart of the city. The interior was beautiful and inviting, and they mounted these wonderful illumated butterfly throughout the restaurant. A very popular item to take a picture with according to the ladies. The food was great that ceviche to start has a mix of the sea and even had some chrispy calamari to top it all of. The acidity portion and textures really worked well together. The chicken was really helped by the green sauce you get at most Peruvian chicken spots. It was borderline dry but was packed with flavor. There's not much to say about the rice and fries, well cooked, and seasoned well.y favorite part of the meal was the arroz con Leche, aka desert. OMG, it was served warm, not like other rice pudding that can be served cold.was wonderfully executed!- I saw a picture of 9ne that was served to another client, and it didn't look as appealing- lucky I guess.. We ordered a whole chicken to be shared among 4 ladies during lunch and it was just enough. Selected the yucca fries which were different in texture and tasty. We also ordered empanadas as apps (no pic) and although good, we favored the veggie one over chicken which had a lot of mushrooms. We ordered the rotisserie chicken. It rated in my top 3 lifetime rotisserie chickens. It was surprisingly good (my expectations were quite low, sadly, because of being disappointed so often at other places offering chicken.) It was moist (most rotisserie chicken's white meat is full on sawdust), full of flavor, generously sized, and came with a choice of two sides. We kept the sides simple, with a green salad and steamed rice. The salad was fresh (no wilted, sad little leaves) and the rice was cooked exactly right. I have to say that I would happily eat this chicken EVERY day. I know that seems a bit extreme, but I really was just that happy with it. I can't say anything about the rest of the menu, but you don't need me to tell you that this place is worth checking out. Just get some chicken! read more
