My girlfriend and I just went her today for a nice mellow dinner and when we walked in, the place was very colorful and welcoming. The co-owner let us sit wherever, so we pick a nice table by the window. The co-owner then came over after helping some other patrons and took care of us right away. We even asked him how long they had been open for (6 months) and he shared more about his story and experience. The other owner then came over and greeted us and we had a nice conversation for a few minutes. They are so friendly and welcoming and you can tell they work so hard at their craft. We ended up ordering the Arroz con Pollo with Cilantro Rice and the Arroz Chaufa. The dishes came out pretty quickly, within 10 mins and they were nice and warm - not too hot. Both dishes were full of flavor and the plate portions were very generous. The Arroz con Pollo came with a full chicken leg that was still moist and the meat pulled on so easily. The cilantro rice was light and not overwhelming with too much cilantro. The Arroz Chaufa had a nice savory taste with chicken pieces (no extra charge) and and melted when I took a bite. We even received a complimentary chocolate cake dessert to share. Such an nice gesture. The beef empanadas were very delicious. It came out with 2 pieces which were generously filled with beef. The ceviche clasico was also very tasty however, i thought a bit pricey ($22) for the serving size. I had the lomo saltado for my main entry. The restaurant has a really nice interior, it's a very different experience, like dining in a forest. That was cute. But the food was just okay. I got the chicarrone de pollo, which the description on the menu described as morsels of fried chicken wrapped in a super crunchy crust - suggesting the fried chicken is wrapped in something. So I was expecting something new and interesting. That's not what it was, it was just fried chicken. It was good fried chicken, but it was nothing special, and definitely sounded a lot better on paper. The newest Peruvian restaurant in SF! I'm pretty sure they took over another restaurant that was previously there because you cannot miss this place. The interior is absolutely stunning and is decorated with bright lights and butterflies. Think tropical rainforest-esque. It's very spacious and they even have a separate lounge area if you're looking for a more intimate/laxed vibe. Service was fantastic. We asked for recommendations and decided to go with whatever was recommended. The server consistently made an effort to check in on us and clear our small plates for appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Food came out fast and steady as well. Food was great, I'm just now exploring Peruvian food and it certainly didn't disappoint here. All the meat dishes were well cooked but not dry at all. They were juicy and tender while maintaining their flavor. I'd highly recommend the rotisserie chicken with that cilantro-aioli sauce, it was perfection. We were also fans of their beef heart which come on skewers and their lomo saltado that comes with fries coated in savory gravy sauce with chunks of tender steak. For desserts I'd recommend both the chocolate cake which was decadent but not overpowering, and their arroz con leche (rice pudding). Mariposas recently opened up near downtown and as you walk in it has a very garden like theme with butterfly LED lights and images everywhere . We happened to be the only other group dining there so pretty much had the whole place to ourselves Unfortunately they didn't have a liquor license yet but the chef was kind enough to improvise and made us horchatas which weren't on the menu . For food we started with the empanadas which were delicious and fresh . We followed up with the lomos Saltados which was juicy and well seasoned. We also tried the arroz chauf, albeit a vegetarian version which was flavorful. All food portions were large and super filling, the prices are slightly on the higher side for the appetizers, but the staff was very accommodating and made the experience well worth it. Overall this would be more of a group gathering than an ideal date spot. Stopped in on a whim for a later solo bite after work, and am so glad I found this place. It's in the middle of the financial district, so it felt like a surprising and very welcome discovery. I walked in around 8pm and was able to easily get a seat at the bar. The survey was super helpful (I'm not well versed in Peruvian food), quickly bringing me a cold Peruvian lager while I waited for my food. The Arroz Con Pollo was phenomenal. An unexpected balance of filling but not heavy. Portion was large and I initially figured I'd take some home, but the whole plate disappeared quickly. I also met one of the owners before I left who was clearly deeply passionate about attention to detail and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. It was a 5 star experience for me even before I met her, so I am especially glad to be able to support a passionate small business. Then ordered ceviche with calamari couldn't have enough! As our entree we ordered the Lomo saltado DELICIOUS!!! We also got the Chiccaron De Polo (fried chook) but like you haven't had before- as for ALL the sauces, including spicy- they are delicious and the chicken was moist, crunchy and perfectly cooked. I had the Chicha Sour cocktail- it paired more than perfectly with the food and I really enjoyed trying chicha for the first time- give me more!!
