Absolutely delicious! I've heard of this place for a while now but never went and decided to try it out last night. It's one of the best seafood places in Reno I think. Food was definitely authentic, fresh and delicious. We decided to feast and ordered the cheese empanadas, Mexican coke, molcajete mariscos, molcajete de carnes, 1/2 dozen oysters topped with ceviche, and I got the ceviche to go as well. All were so incredibly delicious and really large portions. The staff were so welcoming and kind. They have a new ownership and we talked to the new owner, Alfredo (who is super sweet) and he talked us through the whole menu and gave us tips on what's good. Everything he recommended was awesome. Really nice interior and plenty of seating. If you're craving delicious and authentic Mexican seafood, this is the place for you. Don't walk, RUN! read more

It's so hard to rate this place. It's super authentic so that's awesome. It reminds me of the summers I've spent in Ensenada. Cute exterior and live music inside. Great service, everybody was super nice even though there was some language barrier. However, food was SO SPICY! I admit, I am a wimp when it comes to heat, and she did warn me about it on the salsa when we sat down. But I didn't know everything we ordered was going to be so spicy!! My family who loves spicy food loved it, but sadly most of it was inedible for me. The flavor was there, I just couldn't handle any of it. We stayed at the Grand Sierra Hotel so wife wanted some Oysters and Taco so we found this location but it was 6:30pm on a Wednesday after a long day after attending a Medical School Nephews Graduation we decided to give it a try. We ordered 2 dozens of Oysters , 2 Tacos , 1 Ceviche and 2 cheese chicken Ques. The cashier said 15minutes but turn out to be a nightmare, 45 minutes and she Apologize that the guys could not open the Oyster, when we arrive at Hotel Oyster looks dead and flat and shelves was broken to pieces. We felt gosh what a bad night, was hungry so we had to eat whatever we can and call it a night. Never eat Oyster at this Location, Cant sale old Oysters and take an hour to pop it open sucks! Love this establishment. I've now been here twice and it's been good every time. I have gotten different things each time but I will say I really enjoy their shrimp empanadas the most. The toastada mixta is a crowd favorite. Also get their strawberry or mango margarita with silver patron. Delicious. Their ceviches are also delicious and full of flavor. Aguachile is not unbearable spicy so I do appreciate that. Their miches are also good. One thing I forgot to mention that I really like are the shrimp tacos. They are really good here! read more

Well let me add my 2cents... My wife and i came for dinner and the first problem was the loud TV playing a Very Vulgar and Violent Movie. The waitress seem to be paying more attention to the Television than the customers our Food was bland we actually found ourselves using the salt... The tables looked dirty, the napkin dispenser was very dirty like it had never been wiped so it made me overthink everything about the cleanliness of the place. I was the only person here during lunch and service was a bit slow and non-existent. Overall if I could, I would rate it 3.5 stars because the food was decent. Nothing amazing but it was a nice change from your typical latin food. Flavors was there but I do question the quality of the food as you can tell most "seafood" items weren't fresh. It was your canned seafood mixed with "fresh." Prices were high for this type of so called "fresh" seafood. My lunch was over $40 for 2 appetizers and a soda. I normally never go for places like this but a family friend wanted to go. Pros: nice decorations. There was a mariachi band. Cons: I was afraid to eat the food from how the place smelt. From the people who did eat- the food was "okay". For 3 adults and 1 kid it was $170!!!!! WTF!!! Overall- I will never let that family friend pick on a place to eat. The place itself looks very nice and attractive. The colors gives you the beach vibe which goes well suited with the seafood because this place is all about seafood. Anyways I came here with my family and it was not what I expected. The service was horrible, the lady expected us to order fast and when we said we were waiting for more members so arrive she would clearly roll her eyes. The other waitress didn't know what they did and did not have as beverages. Honestly, I was attracted to this place by its bright green paint job on the outside. We walked in on a Thursday evening for some Mexican seafood and that is exactly what we got. Susan had the shrimp tacos and I had the fried tilapia with melted cheese/peppers/olives on top (this was real good!). It was real quite in there, so I guess the weekends are when it gets hopping - the place is set up to satisfy your needs to have a Mexican feast/party. The service is friendly. Too bad that they don't put tables out on their large patio. The rough-hewn log bar was real cool to look at. I'm sure they make a good margarita, but I didn't feel like drinking at the time. The juke box is set to very loud. Note, you will have a more easy time ordering if you speak Spanish (her English was scant, and my Spanish is scant). Fortunately, another diner was there and was friendly enough to interpret for us. I think we'll be back in the future for Mexican seafood. read more

My first time here and it was pretty good. My co-worker and I both ordered ceviche de camaron and it was fresh and so tasty! The tostadas were a bit hard (I prefer soft ones that break easier) but everything else was good. The waitress was nice and checked on us a few times to make sure we were ok. Mariscos Las Islitas - Cool background this is my first time in this place. So far, so good! - Mexican Near Me - Reno, Nevada

The husband and I are not gamblers, but we like to take trips to places that we have no reason to visit to try and find their gems (mostly the eating ones). We spend an entire weekend crawling through parts of town that may not be highlighted on the "tour" and see what reasons might prompt our return. Having previously experienced this in Bakersfield, I did a quick search on yelp for the same restaurant in Reno and found this place (YAYY!). So, when we showed up, first, we confirmed that it was part of the same family of restuarants - they're each owned by a group of cousins, the restaurant names have mostly the same words, but reordered or with a couple of extra words thrown in, depending on which one you go to - all follow a standard menu and each one branches out from there). It's not completely off the beaten path - in fact, it's just a block away from a main highway and has great parking in the back. In our excited quest, we showed up probably just minutes after they opened, so it wasn't too crowded - in fact, the jukebox didn't start playing until an hour later when we were just about leaving. The place was clean and inviting. The hesitant look on our server's face when we first walked in could have been either because they are not typically frequented by caucasians or asians (us) or it could also have been the crazed-excited looks on our faces having found this restaurant in Reno - we might have scared her with our excitement - I know how scary excited we can get. All I know is that when the second group of customers - a lady and her baby - walked in 30 minutes later, she was more warm to them - could have been the baby, too. On to the food... chips and salsa were fresh (of course, we were there just as they opened). We ordered our favorites: Pescado con LImon (Lime Fish) and Mojarra Frita (Whole Fried Fish, usually Tilapia or some other white fish variant). Their version of the lime fish is actually more accessible than the Bakersfield version - theirs is marinated in the lime sauce before cooking and it's served crispy brown on the outside with that strong salty limey flavor through and through. It didn't come with the creamy lime sauce that we really love though, which I've heard can be overpowering for others. And how can you go wrong with whole fried fish? Anyone who doesn't eat fish cheeks and eyes and doesn't enjoy picking out fish bones would probably not order this dish anyway. So, go ahead and skip the rest of this paragraph or be forewarned that it may gross you out... It's crispy enough that you can eat the tail like a tortilla chip (can I get a basket of these instead?), but not so over fried that you can't scoop out the fatty goodness off the face. Both dishes come with rice and refried beans and their scoop of beans were a bit light, so we had to order some extra on the side. The hubs also ordered some horchata which he thoroughly enjoyed. My only real complaint was that the bathroom, while it looked and smelled perfectly clean, was about 10 degrees colder than the rest of the restaurant - my 1 minute visit in there almost took away all the warm comfort I'd just experienced eating their food. The weather outside creeping in through a window is not their fault though, so just adding here so you know to bring a coat. read more
