Then they changed the prices of breakfast burritos, told us we could not customize without paying extra because the BURRITO STUFF WAS PRE-MADE!!!! Finally got in to try the menudo and I was not disappointed. The soup was made in house, it had all the great flavors I remember from my grandmother's menudo. They brought a side plate of cilantro, onions, crushed red pepper and lemon. My husband ordered the grilled shrimp burrito he was impressed with amount of shrimp that were in the burrito. I live about an hour away and every time I'm in the area I can't resist stopping in. Their enchilada sauce is homemade and absolutely to die for! They sell it now in a jar for $12. Yay! If you're feeling extra thirsty I would highly recommend their boot michelada. It's huge and delicious. And their happy hour has margaritas for $3.50. Can't beat that! Always good service. read more

I had beef fajitas with salad substituting the rice and beans, my wife had the 7 mares soup. The portions were both large enough for us to have the leftovers as lunch, and the food was delicious. I appreciated the fresh avocados, salsa, and generous portions of beef. The beef itself was tender, not over cooked, slightly oily, served on a hot iron skillet. I moved the beef off the skillet immediately to prevent overcooking. The 7 mares soup had shrimp, three mussels, two large crab legs, fish, octopus, tiny scallops, and squid. Tasty broth. To top it off we shared a yummy flan. 3-6 is happy hour, $3 a drink. Excellent deal. read more

Mariscos Mar De Cortez We ate there the other day. Greeted very quickly, had refreshments very quickly, had order made very quickly and food came out very quickly. The server was very friendly and attentive. The food was hot and very good tasting. I got the Carne Asada burrito and it had the most unique taste I have ever had from any Carne meat. It came on a plate with nothing else and was a somewhat decent portion. I remember the last several times I've eaten any kind of burrito from many full service places and they had much more food than what these guys offered. The place was filthy with food at the edge of the table (connecting to the wall) and on the seat. The meal was free so that helped a bit. read more

I have been here to get to-go food as well as sit down and eat in small groups and large. The building looks much nicer on the inside than on the outside, but the building itself has been around as different incarnations for as long as I can remember (I've been in Ramona since 1986). I am so happy that Mariscos showed up because it is easily the best Mexican food in Ramona. The place does get packed, though, so plan accordingly. read more

Brought my wife here for her birthday based on a friend's recommendation and we both were rather disappointed. My wife had the fajitas plate which was enough food for several people. Unfortunately the shrimp was way overcooked. I had the steak and red sauce combo plate. Rice and beans were good but the red sauce was too salty. I was thirsty for the rest of the night. Our food and drinks were served promptly with a smile and cordial greeting. We'll try coming back again to see if the kitchen was just having a bad night when we were there. read more

The restaurant is supposed to be open until 10:00. We showed up at 8:20 on 12/7/15 only to be ignored for 5 minutes by the waitress chatting with a single customer. When she came to our table, she told us twice that she "thought" the kitchen was closed. I asked her to find out and she went back to the woman she was chatting with previously and talked to her for a minute. When she came back to our table she gave us some stale chips and menus and told us to hurry and order "just in case the kitchen wasn't closed". I said, "have you asked?" She then went to the kitchen and asked in Spanish, "We're closed, yes?" She did something else and came back to the kitchen and asked the same question in Spanish twice. It seemed to me she was just wanting the kitchen to be closed, to be honest. I called to speak with the owner and was asked why I was calling. I told her I had a complaint, she put me on hold, and came back a moment later to take my number as he was busy. I asked her what the manager's name was on duty and she said it was the owner, Sam. That he was both the owner and manager. I left my message and did not hear back from him all day. I live in Ramona; however, I will NEVER go back there again. After a day of wine tasting around Ramona, my boyfriend and I were in much need of a substantial dinner. We asked workers from all three wineries and were not told about Mariscos Mar De Cortez until the very last inquiry. I'm not sure why everyone else didn't inform us about this restaurant because it was really good. Sure, the ambiance is lacking and the building is quite old, but the food definitely makes up for that. We really enjoyed the chips and salsa. The chips were salted just right and the salsa was a perfect blend of chunky and creamy with a roasted tomato flavor. We shared a three entree plate: cheese enchilada, chile releno and beef taco. My boyfriend said the taco was decent, but really enjoyed the enchilada. I opted for the chile releno and was pleasantly surprised with the flavor as many I've had in the past are far too bland. We were happy with our dinner choice for the evening and would recommend it for anyone passing through Ramona. read more

One of the few places I will ever give 5 stars and olnly because I have been several times and am never let down. The Chile Verde plate is my favorite. I suggested Mariscos after wine tasting in Ramona and there was 9 of us in our group. No one was disappointed and we got our food pretty fast for having a large group. With a ton of mexican resurants in our tiny town I thought it would be a waste to put in another one but Mariscos proved me wrong and I hope they stick around longer than the other resturants that have been in that building. read more

A lot of Mexican food places in Ramona but this one was excellent. Very cheerful staff and a large menu to chose from. Had cheese enchiladas and they were huge! Very delicious. Ramona does not have many restaurants compared to other cities, towns, what have you, but they have plenty of taco shops like anywhere else, serving the same carne asada (Not marinated, lots of pico..) and other taco shop fare. Mariscos is a sit down place, where you order off of a menu and not at the counter, which is what we were looking for since moving here a couple of months ago. My wife started off by ordering a 1/2 dozen oysters. I thought she was brave ordering fresh seafood from a restaurant that isn't in seaport village or has igantine in the name, but she went for it anyway, and she was happy that she did. The oysters smelled fine and she said they were really good. Oh, and we of course had the staple chips and salsa served to us right away, and both were good. The salsa is not very spicy but it is flavorful. My wife also ordered a Sangria which she said was good too. For the main dishes we both went for the Carne Asada taco / Chesse Enchilada combo. I always test a new Mexican restaurant on whether they have good carne asada and enchilada sauce. Mariscos did a good job on both. The carne asada was actually marinated and tender, and the taco was stuffed with the meat. The cheese enchilada was gooey, and not coagulated, and the sauce was very good. Beans were also cooked well, and obviously not from a can, and the rice was good too. Service was awesome, and I would rate this as one of the better Mexican restaurants I have eaten at in a while. If you are in Ramona, then give this place a shot if you are hungry for some good Mexican cooking. read more

Kitchen needs to wear hair nets, big long hair in the salsa. Shrimp dish is a joke 18$ for 6 tiny shrimp. Skimpy servings of beans and rice. Less than Zero Stars! We had heard about this place for a long time, and about how this is THE PLACE for authentic Mexican food. NOT! This was perhaps the worst Mexican food we have ever had. I would expect this quality of Mexican food in Minnesota maybe... The fish tacos: the fish was wet and mushy. The carne asada: the meat was gray and wet. It looked liked it was steamed and had been sitting in a cafeteria tray for hours. It wasn't even put on a griddle to get any crisp to it or meat flavor - it was just mushy wet crumbly bits of gray meat. Unbelievably poor quality. Stay away! read more
