Their agua chile was pretty good and I'm usually iffy with ordering these type of seafood plates at restaurants as sometimes they're under cooked & flavorless . This place is on the Main Street of Santa Clara a bit hard to find but once you do they have a very small parking lot area to park if not you have to find some parking on the street. First time here at Mariscos Playa Azul. I had seen it all over TikTok, so I decided to give it a try. The vibe was cool, and we ordered two micheladas. Before ordering, I specifically asked what came in them and was told they included the Clamato mix, beer , and shrimp. When our drinks arrived, there was no shrimp. I politely mentioned it, but the waitress insisted I never ordered them with shrimp, even though that was the whole reason I asked beforehand. It felt dismissive and frustrating. To make matters worse, when we got the bill, there was an extra item added to our tab that we never ordered. We were charged for a "súper" when all we had was one beer. At that point, it felt like there were too many mistakes for a first visit. We ended up only paying for the beers and decided not to order food. Another waiter later came over and offered to make it right and even said the next drinks were on them, which I appreciated. However, after the mix-up, the extra charge, and the miscommunication, we didn't feel comfortable ordering anything else. I had 3 or 4 pieces and had to call it quits. My boyfriend had ordered a shrimp and beef dish plate. He said the shrimp was ok, the beef was overdone and chewy, and the beans were weirdly congealed. I'm always looking for new places to have mariscos and this place did not disappoint. I do gotta say it's a a bit expensive than other places I've been, but honestly it was worth it. The shrimp empanadas were spot on, the sushi roll was humongous, the molcajete was beautifully presented and it looked and tasted just as good. I can't forget about those micheladas they were made just right to satisfy that craving I had, specially with the shrimp. Like most, you've probably seen the Mexican Sushi on Instagram! Lots of foodies have reviewed this place on their reels and I'm always wary of that but it looked intriguing enough so decided to give it a try. I ordered the Sushi Alambre and Mar Y Tierra (Surf & Turf) Taco. The sushi itself was definitely Instagram worthy, looks amazing and was GOOD but the bite became way too rich after a couple rolls. It basically was a deep fried rice roll (with some shrimp) with carne asada on top with two types of sauces. It's definitely worth a try, and I'd recommend that you get it to share as an appetizer! The Mar Y Tierra Taco isn't on the menu but it features a generously sized tortilla with melted cheese, shrimp, carne asada, and generous serving of avocado. This taco was really flavorful...I enjoyed it more than the sushi. If you forget the name, just call it the "Instagram Taco" and they'll know...it's featured on their reels alot. Other notes - complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch...this was very delicious! No liquor license, so they don't serve alcohol yet but it sounded like they will in the future. Service was great, no complaints there. Very limited parking in the lot, but you can find street parking if spaces aren't available. Overall, I'll give it a very solid 4. I enjoyed the food and ambiance enough and if I'm in the area, I would definitely consider eating there again. First of all my mistake for thinking they had alcoholic beverages - they don't. Second - parking sucks bad. Very small lot and minimal street parking. Luckily I carpooled. Third - food was awful. I ended up with food poisoning the next day. I ordered camaron diabla (shrimp in spicy sauce) - the beans seemed canned, rice was the mushiest I've ever seen and shrimp was extremely overcooked and sauce was sweet. I had less than half the plate and couldn't eat any more. Fourth - lots of staff, friendly but honestly seemed overhyped on tik tok and was a total failure in my book. I don't think I just ordered the wrong thing either because the two friends I was with said the same as me - food was not good. Lastly - the place itself was nothing special. We ordered the camarones a la diabla, tostada shrimp ceviche, aguachile verde, the sushi alambre, and the camarones rancheros. Everything was so flavorful, every single dish was a hit. Our server was very nice and all the workers are attentive. The food did take longer to come out (i just tell myself it's because they're making it from scratch). The ambiance isn't anything special, pretty typical of a typical Mexican restaurant. Our total came out to be around $120 with tip which is decent for seafood. I would 10/10 come back. I appreciate your threefold effort. I had Chilaquiles rojos, a side of guacamole and huevos con chorizo. I know it is a seafood place, but every time I go to a "Mexican" business, I test their food's quality, freshness, and seasoning by asking for essential dishes and guacamole. I was not disappointed; the portions were perfect, the seasoning was there, and the guacamole was prepared to order with fresh products. Some folks were watching the futbol game but not eating which was a bad sign. The bar also didn't have any alcohol bottles, just wine bottles. The chips and salsa were pretty good. We asked for water and he told us they only had bottled water (which they charged us for). I feel like if that's the only option they should at least make it complimentary. The margaritas didn't taste like any alcohol. I'm almost positive i saw the waiter behind the bar pouring from a margarita mix bottle but never saw any tequila. The shrimp was alright. We tried: - Cameribes a a Diabla - Shrimp sauteed by onions and diabla sauce served with rice and refried beans and salad. - Empanadas de Camaron - This is my favorite dish since it reminds me with Indonesian snack called pastel - Molcajete Playa Azul - This is the most wanted dish by people and such a crowd pleaser! It has beef, shrimps, chicken, and you can wrap it around cheese and salsa in the middle. - Sushi Almbre - This is my first time trying Mexican Sushi, and it's so different yet almost close with Japanese fusion sushi. The only thing different is Mexican sushi is deep fried and fully loaded with Mexican rice. We also ordered Super Chavela Camaron - Mexican beer cocktail with tomato juice seasoned with hot sauce garnished with lemon and shrimps.
