Very interesting spot!!! My co worker took me here and I was amazed when I first saw the menu. The ambience was nice and pretty. Servers were polite, friendly and fast but I had a hard time communicating with them. Food here tended to be modernized not typical ones. Ceviche tasted good. I ordered Molcajete and it tasted just like ceviche. I wanted to order rolls but every rolls were made with cream cheese so .... Meh. I have had several dental appointments in close proximity to Culichi Town. Today I entered, I was parched and needed something soothing to drink. They have a full bar with Modelo Especial on tap. No brain engaged, I ordered a glass. Then I focused across onto the bottles they have that they can serve! Multiple Tequilas. Some can be VERY expensive for a shot! But then again Cuevo is cheap. I hate to leave negative reviews, but this place was just okay. Nothing more or less. I came for a birthday and they had pre-ordered a few different tacos (served single, open faced, $5-$6 each), ceviche, and oysters. No one at the table liked the oysters. Love how they prepare them table side! But I ordered a mezcal drink, and I only tasted pineapple juice. If you drink mezcal, you know there's a prominent Smokey flavor, which I love, but I couldn't taste it at all. My drink was $16 and I finished it in 5 sips, it was mostly ice! I visited this spot at The Plant shopping center and the atmosphere was lively. They had a mariachi band playing when we arrived and it made the experience really fun. Service was very slow, though the staff was friendly. The food came out fairly quickly. My friend ordered a salad and I had two tacos, one fish and one steak. They were served on a cutting board that looked pretty worn, which took away from the presentation. The food tasted good but it was not hot when it arrived. We ordered boiling shrimp, one octopus and one prime taco, and a tentation roll. The food took a while to come out. The server brought us some chips with salsa and refried beans as we waited. At first, they were blasting the music, they got some strong subwoofers hooked up, you can feel the vibration and umph. My booth was shaking and vibrating, and I got a warning from my apple watch that it was too loud. It was very difficult to hold a conversation. Then I realized there was a birthday party going on. Once the party left, the volume was lowered to a more moderate level. Chips were fresh and still warm. Refried beans was pretty well seasoned, smooth and creamy. Salsa was pretty standard, mild in spice. The tentation roll was packed with rice. The first roll they bought out, they forgot to add the smoked salmon. We notified the staff and they quickly corrected the order. When they bought out the roll, it was toped with fresh salmon rather than smoked salmon listed on the menu. The salmon was very fresh it was good. The ratio of filling needs a lot of work, it threw off the balance, more than half our roll was missing the shrimp and only had a large slice of cucumber and cream cheese. While the ones that did have the shrimp, it was overpowered by the huge chunk of cucumber. The roll lacked a lot of consistency. The sauce flavor was on point, but would have it give it a 1.5 out of 5. Octopus Taco was cheesy and tasted a bit like BBQ. I liked the octopus texture, nicely cooked a hint of heat. 3 out of 5. Prime taco was amazing, the cheese was grilled crispy, the beef was very tender and well marinated. Highly recommend. 4.5 out of 5 The Boiled Shrimp was decent, sauce packs a good amount of heat, we got medium. The sauce is different than your normal Cajun spot like boiling crab, but it was pretty good. You can taste a bit of the Cajun and had a bit of tang to it. In the beginning some of shrimp is boarder line overcooked, near the end the residual overcooked the shrimp. Good quality shrimp, the meat had a hint of sweetness to it. 3 out of 5 Overall, the food was decent. If I was to come back I would order a dish more focused on the beef and another shrimp dish. The beef there seems really good and tender. While I was walking to the bathroom, someone ordered a beef dish and it looked really good. I came here for the first time and was genuinely impressed. I visited on the day the World Cup started when Mexico was playing, and it made for such a fun experience. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, making it the perfect place to watch the game while enjoying some really good food. My Selena drink came bubbly with liquid nitrogen fog. I would have appreciated if there was an education part of service. Ideally we should be warned to wait until the bubbling and gas fades. It is actually dangerous to ingest liquid nitrogen. Even the expert mixologist would refuse to drink for their health and safety priority. I honestly didn't needed that show. Their exquisite selection of drinks entices me when I browsed over their menu. Since it was my first time there, I always like to ask my host or hostess what is their most popular on demand item and what do they like. Sometimes you end up with an upside down or you straight. Definitely recommend reservation if you plan to go on a Friday/ Saturday night, but you should be good without one if you go during a time that's not as busy. When you're first seated, you receive complimentary chips, salsa, and beans. All were very good! I usually get their aguachile verde, it is soo good! Their horchata and horchata con coco were both good, but nothing special. I have also tried their La Doris drink, which was okay. We also got their lobster and steak which was delicious. My fiance told me about a new restaurant in The Plant. After doing a bit of research, I found that he was referring to Culichi Town. We decided to check it out for dinner on a Sunday night around 7pm. My first impression of the place was, "Wow, the place was poppin'," but I soon realized I basically was signing up for having dinner at a club. On top of there being a DJ, there was a mariachi band performing for someone's birthday. In general, the music was so loud that I could hardly hear my partner, who was sitting next to me in the booth. I also had to raise my voice / borderline scream across the table for our server to hear me. It wasn't the experience I wanted to have on a Sunday night before work on Monday. Now If I was drunk on a Friday or Saturday night, then this may be a different story and I would've been into it. Admittedly, I wasn't mentally prepared for it. Speaking of not being mentally prepared, I was completely weirded out by a person in costume that looked like a scary nun straight out of a horror film. Was this part of the spectacle or was this a customer? Either way, it was a WTF moment. My fiance and I looked around at the other guests to see their reaction, but no one batted an eye. Service was great. Our food came out super fast, and our server was very friendly and attentive. I could tell she was trying her best to hear us through the loud music. The Taco Prime stood out to us, but we asked for other recommendations from our server. She suggested we try the Guamuchilito and the Hot Cheeto ceviche. The taco was excellent. I would come back for that. The meat was tender and flavorful. The Guamuchilito was the deep fried sushi roll with imitation crab, sliced avocados, and a chili sauce. It was a pretty basic roll, but I would go as far as saying that it tasted better than deep fried rolls I've had at Japanese restaurants. I would pass on the Hot Cheeto ceviche. Honestly, I found the Hot Cheetos as gimmicky. They did nothing for the dish. The ceviche was average as well. Lastly but not least, I tried the Selena cocktail and enjoyed it.
