I took my family out to celebrate my mothers birthday and the food was phenomenal! The environment and customer service was great. Upon arrival the waitress brought us chips and salsa, we added habanero hot sauce to it and it was delish. We ordered a parilla de mariscos, horchata, a piña colada, bottled Mexican coke, and my brother ordered asada nachos. We hardly waited considering it was a Saturday evening. Where do I start? My boyfriend and I came in, sat down, and waited about 20 minutes for the waitress to ask us if we want anything to drink. She brings me a margarita and it tastes like juice ( my boyfriend didn't taste the alcohol either). The restroom starts over flowing and the water starts going under our table. We get up and move to another table and wait about another 20 minutes for the waitress to come back and ask if we're ready. (Well duh!) All these waitresses wanted to do was flirt with every sancho in there. We are a young family, and it seemed like unless you were a man or group of guys, your service was going to suck. I love the shrimp tacos (no pico)... no really i do, i eat them twice a week and sometimes 4. The "7 mares" soup is the best as well. The cooks are really good and the waitresses are very kind and always smiling. I got drawn into this place by the sign for the lunch special from 11-4 for $5.99. There's a couple different choices, such as enchiladas, two tacos, a fish taco, or chile relleno. All of the entrees come with beans, rice, soup, a soda, and chips with salsa. It's definitely a great deal for the volume of food you get. Taste wise, the tacos I tried here were decent. Mariscos Playa De Corales is just a few doors down from Northgate Market in the Placentia Plaza. It's all self-seating (at least during the day-time), so don't expect a waitress to direct you to a table upon entering. When you first walk in, your eyes will be drawn to the bright blue decor: the chairs have ocean scenes on them to match the murals on the walls, and all-in-all the restaurant has a very festive look and feel to it. To compliment the atmosphere, there will often be ranchera and mariachi music playing on the jukebox...and very LOUDLY, might I add. In fact, the juke box was SO loud that it was actually a bit difficult to hold a conversation with my lunch companions. Apparently on certain nights, they also have karaoke, live bands, etc. The service at Mariscos has never been stellar that I can remember, and sometimes the waitresses even seem a little aloof, if not downright pissed off. Maybe it's because I'm usually there with a handful of female coworkers, and their short outfits don't garner as much of a tip from us as it would from the male customers? Haha...seriously, though...those outfits are *escandaloso*, which is what undoubtedly draws in the mostly male customer base; I have hardly ever seen any female patrons in there. It's never been crowded during lunch, and today was no exception. Still, we had to flag down the waitresses to refill our salsa, chips, drinks, and finally to bring us the check, even though we saw them servicing other tables more quickly and multiple times before we were able to get their attention. Another thing that threw me was the overwhelming smell of cleaner when we walked in the door. Why mop the floors and Windex the tables right in the middle of the lunch rush?! I understand wiping down tables with a washcloth, but all the cleaning agents mingling with the strong smell of seafood created an off-putting aroma to say the least. A lot of their authentic seafood dishes were upwards of $10 - $17. However, for those of you less adventurous (and perhaps frugal) folks, for around six bucks you can choose from a handful of lunch specials that offer more traditional (read: gringo/gringa) fare. I got the cheese enchilada, and my friends got the chile verde and chile relleno. They also have taco plates, burritos, etc. All of their lunch specials come with rice, beans, a small side salad, and a soda. I don't think any of us were super impressed with the lunch plates, though. One of my friends was disappointed in her chile relleno because it was slathered in some kind of sauce that looked like nacho cheese but tasted altogether unidentifiable. The cheese enchilada and chile verde were nothing special, but the real show-stoppers were the tacos we ordered on the side. Their al pastor was tender and very well seasoned, and their chorizo taco was to die for! I was thoroughly impressed. Slow, shoddy service aside...those tacos are probably a return trip. Maybe next time I'll place an order for pick-up, though. P.S. The parking in this plaza has gotten a lot worse since Northgate opened, so be prepared to hunt for a spot during peak hours. read more

If I was rating based on food I would give this place 4 stars. The food was good. I ordered tostadas de ceviche de camaron which were pretty tasty. They weren't stingy with the shrimp either. For a Monday the place was loud which I didn't mind. First off, when I go to mexican restaurants I am usually treated with backhanded service because I am an Americanized Latina & you can pretty much get that hint just by looking at me. However, the servers & hostesses were very nice to me & treated me equally. Very thankful for that because I am usually pretty self conscious going into mexican restaurants alone. I was served chips & salsa right away along with caldo. My drink was brought to me promptly as well. I ordered a ceviche de camaron toastada & ohhhhh emmmm geeeee. I was so happy with it. First off, it looked freaking beautiful. It was so fresh. The avocados were bright green & so smooth. Everything was perfectly placed on the toastada as well, it wasn't all messy. Besides looking good, it tasted delicious. All the hot sauces were full, my table was clean, there was napkins, I literally didn't have to bug the waitress for anything. Unfortunately for my group this was not the case this past Sunday when we went for dinner and drinks. We placed our order for oysters and later informed that they were all out witch wasn't a big deal but they still ended up on my bill. We also ordered a mixed platter that is to come with 3 meats and 3 seafood items, when it arrived at our table we had 1 of the 3 seafood portions. I had to get up and find the manager because she never came, not only was the experience horrible, I was being overcharged for almost $80. Apparently if you know someone who works there you automatically get seated right away, which kinda sucks for those who waited a long time.
