We stumbled upon this place while looking for dinner, and it did not disappoint! I ordered the regular beef udon, and you could really taste that the noodles were freshly made. A cool bonus: after you order your bowl, you get to pick out your own tempura items to add right into the soup. Definitely worth a stop!"

Finally got to try Marugame Udon. This place is quite legit and they have really good Udon. They are located right across from the skytrain. Super convenient location. I got the beef udon and two tempera. As a tip get the daishi soy sauce to dip your tempera in. It is way better than the tempura sauce. The beef udon was very delicious and it comes with a good portion of beef in the udon. Everything is made upon ordering. The place is somewhat like food court style. You order and they make it in front of you and you head over to grab your tempura or sides and then you head off to the till to pay. It is a very efficient system. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is clean and has a good amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I highly recommend coming here for lunch. They also have late night special for those partying out late and are hungry.

I came here to try the new udon that comes with garlic butter and clam! The butter was really good and actually paired really well with the soup and noodles. I do think that the food is a bit salty here, but it's good value and service is very quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is one of the few places I've been to that does cafeteria-style dining, so it's great for a casual meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Not a fair comparison. What do I mean by that? I've been to the one in Honolulu eons ago multiple times. That is the one that set the bar of expectations for me. I went there for lunch and breackfast. Yes, breakfast. This one is the first outpost in Vancouver and I waited until the hype died down. That said, I also went to another similar knock off in Seattle. It's called U:Don - not a typo. U:Don. Look it up. It's in the University Area. Aside from all of that, this location in Vancouver lacks the crazy line up you would see in Honolulu. ***That, is the giveaway.*** The food turns over faster. The concept is the same. Cafeteria set up. Grab a tray and plates and get your food in the line up. Then pay. Then seat yourself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I came on a quiet Saturday mid day. No lines, lots of seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The udon texture was good. A bit of chew. Disappointment in the chicken karaage. It was not good. Definitely have had better. It was luke warm too. That pretty much sums up the rest of the food that you choose from under the heat lamps. Only the zucchini tempura was semi hot. Everything else was luke warm. The pumpkin squash coquette what the best of the lot in terms of taste. So how to rate? Likely the food will be better when there's a crowd. That way it turns over faster and is prepared on the spot, instead of sitting under a heat lamp. That's the trade off from waiting in line. Those are your options. Choose wisely and temper your expectatons. Pro tip. Park at International Village for free if you register and take a five min walk. Or take the train.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Huge restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quick to place and get your order cafeteria-style. Bus your own table afterwards. The udon and rice bowl I got looked almost identical and pretty much tasted the same. I would recommend the rice bowl with the beef and egg, as it was less salty than the udon bowl. I wished the udon broth was hotter. Seemed like it got cool pretty quick after I sat down, which was not great as it was super cold outside and I was hoping to get some warmth in me. As with most restaurants that sell tempura items, you and your clothes will leave smelling like food for the rest of the night and into the morning. Rewards program offered.

Yummy! The curry udon was very tasty along with the temperas and chicken karaage. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place has a cool setup. We walk in, similar to a cafeteria. We would grab a tray and order the types of udon we want. Then we would grab any additional temperas along the way. The at the end, we just pay for our food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staffs were very helpful and friendly. The udons were very rich in the curry flavor.

Just some quick updates and hints: - large bowl js probably too large for most people if you also get a whole bunch of tempura, you will be too full - there are two kinds of egg you can get to add on, onsen (poached), or the regular half soft boiled egg - there is also a tempura egg. It's not bad! - the tempura is quite good and quite filling too. - the tan tan comes with beef snd and an egg, but the other noodles are more basic - I got the Kitsune which comes with tofu skin, it's really good.

Came back again after some time and boy was i impressed. After watching a Xmas show at Queen E Theatre, felt hungry and cold as it was raining. Looking for a ramen place with some friends and i remembered marugame was just around the corner. More variety now and they provide free water. I had to try the chicken katsu curry and rice , and beef udon bowl, and shrimp and fish cake tempura, as well as the tempura egg. Food came quick and hot. Very hearty on a cold rainy night. The egg was runny when i took a bite . The tempuras were crispy. Udon was done right and al dente. Broth was flavourful. The chicken katsu curry tasted so good. The curry so rich and hearty. Even at regular size, i feel it was enough. Service was quick and they even have a sign saying if you want fresh tempura, just say so and they will fry up a new batch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place was clean and bright. Tables were cleared quick as well as the tray recycling area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would repeat when in the area for sure

Tasty noodle soup that's affordable and fast. The experience is easy and streamlined. You line up, order, they pour broth into noodles, put it on a tray and slide down to the tempura area, choose tempura (or not), then pay and find yourself a seat. I like the regular #2 Beef Udon for a classic noodle soup. Also a fan of #10 Tan Tan Udon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual place inside and turnover is high. You should have no trouble finding a table even when there's a huge line outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Udon noodles are made fresh in house. They're chewy and delicious. You can watch them making noodles while you're waiting in line, and you can see all the bags of imported flour. There's a paid parking lot down the block, but this is more convenient coming from the Skytrain or before a Canucks game etc.

Food: The udon is really good, and the quality is pretty reliable! I've had the entire menu and you can't really go wrong, it really just depends on your mood. It does remind me of the udon I've had Japan. They could be a little more generous on the green onions, but that's just my personal preference! Service: [[HIGHLIGHT]]It kind of feels like a cafeteria, and like I previously mentioned it's similar to what I've had in Japan.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's really quick and efficient which is nice. Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual, and clean as well. Not too loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But definitely better than a fast food place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For this kind of place, it's as good as it gets. 4 stars - extremely solid and reliable place, it's just not a 5 stars for me because it doesn't blow my mind or anything.

Marugame is a great place for a quick and affordable bite. It's a cafeteria style restaurant where you'll be able to pick your own tempera. The service is quick and the employees are all friendly. This place is affordable but also can get expensive depending on how many different types of tempera you get. The tempera ranges in price from $1.99 - $4 (I believe). The udon itself is affordable as the basic one is only $6.49 by itself! Their handmade udon has the perfect chew and is such a comfort meal. I got the regular size udon and it definitely is filling especially if you get some tempera on the side as well. There's a water station where you can get some sauce on the side as well to dip your tempera.

Conveniently located by Stadium Chinatown skytrain station. Taste was good but everything was lukewarm or cold - not ideal when you want to enjoy a bowl of noodle soup on a cold winter night. Reasonably priced.

If you're looking for a quick and affordable meal around downtown, I recommend Marugame Udon. Although not as good as its Honolulu location, I am still grateful to have it in Vancouver. There is ample seating and the service is quick making it a great lunch spot or pre event meal. I ate here when it first opened and again when it was less busy. I think it has gotten better since opening.

Service is quick and they have a counter that faces the kitchen if you're a solo diner. I've also done doordash and the food is packaged well. My only gripe with the delivery is that they don't deliver the noodle in a bowl that is big enough for the entire dish. The noodles and soup are put in two different bowls but you almost can't put them together because it will overflow. This is difficult of you're staying in a hotel so if you can, just eat in the restaurant because they also have hot sauces and pepper that they serve on the table, which they don't give to you if you order delivery.

We received our food within 10 mins. We ordered the vegetarian khao soi. The fried egg noodles added a nice crunch and visual, but the long rigid strands made it a little tough to eat together with the khao soi. The broth looked spicy, but the main flavor profile of the coconut curry was the creamy sweet coconut milk flavor. There were plenty of veggies that were all cooked well, and the rice noodles were fun to chew and novel! Personally, I would have liked some condiments to increase the spiciness or add another layer of flavor. But, for what it is, it was good.

The guy in front of me, Deng, looked at me with such envy as he cut in line. This place is incredibly popular! Every time I pass by, there's a long queue. Even on rainy days, people are willing to get soaked in the rain just to have a bowl of hot tonkotsu ramen. While you're queuing, the staff will hand out menus. The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Overall, it's incredibly good value for money; no wonder there's always a queue. After eating, you really get that "Ah~ this is the taste of happiness" feeling

Seats are hard and it is devised where you and then leave. I had the goma vegetarian and my brother the tonkatsu. We both had thicker noodles. However, one could not tell. The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

The gentleman (owner?) greeted us and provided us with some suggestions on their best sellers. During our dining experience, he was a little loud with shouting instructions to the kitchen and we did feel a bit rushed to finish our meal and not occupy the table with diners lining up. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and the noodles were prepared well (good texture and not soggy) and the soup had a slight but not overwhelm sour taste from the preserved vegetables. The beef wasn't as tender as it could be, but it wasn't chewy or tough to eat. Prices are reasonable at around $20 after tax and tips. While it wasn't the best or most authentic beef noodle soup I've had, it does hit the spot if I'm craving Taiwanese food downtown or want a hot bowl of noodle soup on a cold day.

I don't know why there is chili in my Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I don't like spicy soup. Lucky I am ok with spice but I wish it is stated in the menu? So if you cannot take spicy food, check with them before ordering. The beef noodle soup is tasty as I do like the addition of pickled vegetables in it, giving a bit of tartness. The beef is tender though the quantity is very little. More noodles than meat ratio. The combo is totally not worth it now that the price has gone up to about $13. If you want rice and noodle for lunch, I think Peaceful Restaurant across the street is a better bet. At least the portion is bigger.
