Food was pretty good for the price! The soup was delicious and it was free refills for rice and soup! My friends and I went in at 8PM, when it closed at 9PM. We got a variety of sauces, but I got the regular one! We sampled each other's dishes and they were really flavorful! The food came out in like 15ish minutes (of course give them some grace for not closing on us). The waiter was super nice! He was really nice, I forgot his name but he has blonde short hair (dyed). The restaurant has good parking & it's decorated with anime posters. A variety of booths and long tables.

Been reading about Marujuu and looking forward to trying g their food! Got seat and immediately got served menu and water- the service here is right on! Friendly and helpful . So many choices on sauces - we got the onion gravy ! We got started with their beef broth - very good and very good w/ their rice. Next came our salad and fries - great fries - then rice and hamburger served w/ corn. It was a delicious lunch and I'd love to go back to try their steak! Parking is limited to meter parking in the back of the restaurant.

Finally got a chance to try Marujuu and now I understand why people keep talking about this place. Note: New Menu just dropped in June 2026 If you're into Japanese-style hamburger steak and sizzling platters, this spot delivers. The hamburger steak was juicy, flavorful, and came out piping hot on the iron plate. The sauces paired perfectly with the meat, and the portion size was satisfying without feeling overly heavy. What I really liked was the old-school Japan steakhouse vibe. Nothing overly fancy--just good comfort food done right. The sizzling sound when the plate hits the table instantly gets you hungry. Service was super friendly, food came out quickly, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. Parking can be a little tight depending on when you go, but it's definitely worth the visit. It's a metered lot behind the building... it's actually really cheap parking but can get busy. If you're craving Japanese hamburg steak, steak, or a hearty meal that reminds you of Japan, Marujuu is absolutely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Recommended: Hamburger Steak, Steak Combo, and anything served on the sizzling plate. Save room for extra rice because you're going to want it. Bonus- there is soft served dessert available and also a bonus chance to win a prize with a claw machine after your meal... you can even win some discounts or free food for next visit

I pleasantly enjoyed my time here, but was let down when it felt a bit warm while we had lunch. Maybe it was because we were seated in the corner booth, but it was only slightly uncomfortable. My friends and I got their Hamburg plate with no add ons- we chose their onion sauce. I loved the unlimited soup and rice service they had- it was self-serve which was fine. Burger was very juicy and plump! We shared their Nori Butter Cheese French fries- it was good! But I'd be fine without ordering it during my next visit.

Had a great meal at Marujuu in Kaimukī! The hamburg was delicious and came with veggies, plus unlimited soup and rice, which made it an awesome value. The fried chicken and French fries were yummy too. Friendly, attentive service made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back!

    So good.

the one time i enjoyed a chatty Lyft driver! great recommendation. we ventured to Marujuu for dinner on the suggestion of our Lyft driver. he actually recommended multiple restaurants in this "foodie" area of Kaimuki. we settled on Marujuu for it's high ratings and we're glad we did. Marujuu is inconspicously located in a side street off of 12th and Waialea. even with google maps, were turned around and flipped sideways! just look for the yellow building. we were welcomed in by a chorus of staff greeting us in Japanese. we lucked out and were promptly seated. the place started filling up as our dinner went on. this was our first venture to a Japanese Hamburger joint. we started a complimentary bowl of amazing broth. we ordered the side of the most delicious crispy broccoli, caesar salad, side of fries, a keiki burger, a regular burger and 2 ribeyes. we also chose the onion and demi glace sauces. ALL THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! so much umami in everything. flavor bombs exploding in our mouths, which is watering as i type. a couple rounds of Asahi rounded out our dinners. overall, a great experience and wonderful dinner. we highly recommend.

Located where the old Chubbies and Koko Head Cafe used to be, with parking meters nearby. We got here around 530p on a Friday and was able to snag a booth seat without having any wait time. The place had countertop, booth and bench seats throughout the establishment, that quickly filled up. We were offered onion soup and water rather quickly and efficiently. We also didn't wait very long for our food to come through either (about 15 min). I was anticipating a much longer wait time, based on other reviews, though I believe we came here on a good day, they were turning tables in that 1 hour that we were there. And if you have good company, the time goes by quickly! As for the food, I ordered the signature onion sauce which was sweet, salty, and gritty all at the same time. I also tried my friend's Gorgonzola cheese sauce and it reminded me of the cheese in those cheese and cracker snack packs. Each hamburg comes with grilled vegetables (cabbage), pasta (spaghetti with marinara), and white rice. You can add toppings or larger portions for an additional cost. Also got an order of the original salt fries, no frills about it. Overall, the portion size for a regular was smaller than I had anticipated (went home and ate a snack afterwards). A friend of mine who went previously, mentioned the large portions just have more of the sides, rather than the meat itself. Ended the night with the self-service soft serve ice cream that has pineapple, vanilla or a mix of both. You can opt for a cup or cone. Just know that the machine pushes the product out very quickly, so if you don't have the technique down, you won't be able to stack the ice cream as high as you'd like it, without it toppling over. It was a decent experience, though I don't know if the product was worth the price for me.

Immediately when you enter, you're welcomed by the friendly faces of the staff, popular Japanese music, and the amazing smell of the kitchen. You're no longer in Kaimuki but somewhere in Japan at a family restaurant, pondering which of the delicious dishes you'll have for lunch or dinner. This restaurant has it all. The comfort and vibe and a little something for everyone. While I wouldn't call this a budget option, you definitely get what you pay for as you can get as much soup and rice as you'd like to have with your meal. The restaurant also has a list of beer, whiskey highballs, sours, or even a wine list if you choose to partake in a beverage. I decided on the Calpico sour and the Hamburg and Fried Oysters. The hamburger was juicy tender and you can tell that there has been a lot of care into the recipe. My oysters were also delicious and full of flavor, crispy on the outside and not too salty. The soup was also surprisingly delicious and was much heartier than I expected with a lot of substance to it. Definitely not your standard free soup that you get from other places. We went for a lunch date and made a reservation, although there was plenty of available seating when we went in so it may have not been completely needed. Plenty of parking available in the immediate area and nearby. Definitely looking forward to visiting again for the delicious food and the unique Japanese experience.

Dinner date with my son Marwynn at Marujuu Japanese was such a nice experience. We loved the cozy, casual vibe and the fun sizzling hot plates everything came out hot and comforting. The Japanese hamburger steak was juicy, flavorful, and perfect with rice. Simple, satisfying, and just the kind of comfort food we enjoy together. And great service :) Great spot for a relaxed mom & son dinner date. Thank you for free ice cream soft serve as well... We'll definitely come back again!

Woohoo. We finally got a chance to dine at Marujuu. We've been wanting to try there since they opened but the lines were too long. We went at Lunchtime which according to our server was pretty mellow. Service was great from the front to the back. Very attentive and friendly. We tried the Hamburger Steak with both the Signature Onion Sauce and the Grated Daikon Ponzu sauce. Both were unique and delicious . The Hamburger Steaks were perfectly cooked and served piping hot on Sizzling platters. Their "Miso" soup was delicious it tasted like a Beef Onion Soup. They start you off with a cup of soup and a plate of rice, both you can refill yourself from the side bar. They have countertop and table service as well as delivery. We definitely have to go back to try what we saw on another couples table. The Onion Salad and the Nori Butter Cheese Fries . Highly recommended

Located in Kaimuki, this is a casual quick-service type restaurant. The menu has lots to choose from so variety for everyone. There are even options for the kids. I like how the food came out on a sizzling platter! The hamburger patty was quite soft so I wasn't used to the texture. There is also a self-serve soft serve machine in the front of the restaurant as you enter. Overall, my family and I had a nice meal with good service. We will be back again! Happy Eating!

We decided to try the Japanese Hamburg steak. Coming into the restaurant had that good Japanese vibe of "Irasahai". Welcome. Come in. Koa was our waiter. He was very good. Answered all my questions. Even went to the chef to find out how the soup was prepared. The soup was really good. Hamburger bits and onion in a delicious broth. The really nice thing about here is that it's unlimited soup and rice. Something you find at Mang Inasal in the Philippines. First we had the fried calamari. It came served nice and hot. Unfortunately there's no dipping sauce. Just a lemon wedge. My wife decided on the hamburg steak with their signature onion sauce. I tasted the sauce and it was a bit on the sweeter side. I got the hamburg steak and ribeye combo. It was also served with broccoli and corn. I chose the demi-glace sauce. I thought it was served on a sizling platter but mine wasn't. It was hot but certainly not sizling. If you've ever been to Pepper Lunch they really serve you a sizling platter. I thought the hamburg steak was OK. I didn't think it was anything really special. I think you can get better hamburger steak elsewhere. Maybe it's the demi-glace sauce. It's just my personal opinion to having a hamburger made from scratch with a good mushroom gravy or just brown gravy. Being a Loco moco fan i had to order the egg. I wish they had easy over as an option but they don't. It comes sunny side up. The ribeye was good. We'll it's hard to really ruin a ribeye. It's cooked perfectly at medium rare. I was also looking forward to having soft serve ice cream but unfortunately it wasn't working. Sigh. I think the reason they offer you unlimited soup and rice is cause the entrees are on the smaller side. The service was great. Kudos to Koa. I know that many will disagree with my opinion on the hamburg steak cause it was really packed. This is based only on my tastes. If you have tried hamburg steak and enjoy it, you probably will enjoy here too. If you just eat hamburger steak or Loco moco you might wanna temper your expectations.

Cup of beef soup to start your meal.

I wanted to check out this new Japanese hamburger place that replaced a previous hamburger place (Chubbies). Totally different experience! This hamburger is thicker and juicier. It's served with a variety of sauces and rice, spaghetti, and cooked cabbage. You also get a cup of soup to start your meal. I liked the Japanese hamburger. It was very tasty with actual pieces of meat in the ground beef. You also don't really need sauce but its nice to have on the side. All in all a good meal, very good and satisfying. The service was excellent, very responsive and attentive. The environment is very casual and comfortable. There were a lot of families in here the night we had dinner. Lots of parking in the paid lot or on the street. The metered parking is free after 6 pm and its always nice to walk around Kaimuki.

Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food was a bit too flavorful - we all agreed that everything was slightly salty. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. We tried handful more items but we'll be back to try the oxtail items, as it sounds like that's their specialties, but takes extra time to prepare.

And boy were we both blown away (so much so that I believe she returned the next day with others!). The menu had been completely revamped and seemed to take on a more local influence while still being very upscale. Since we both enjoy "sampling" we shared two appetizer and a main. Everything was bursting with flavor! This is what we had: Starter salad from the seasonal menu of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and greens served on a bed of yuzu infused goat cheese and drizzled with a shiso chimmichuri sauce. Yes, bursting with flavor! I would return for just this dish! Next shared was a tempura battered cauliflower served with a robust curry and yogurt reduction. Deeeelicious. I wouldn't say we licked the plate... but I won't deny it. Hahah. Finally shared the seafood in curry soup (think a lighter version of laksa) served with white rice on the side. Holy moly. No words to describe. Portions were generous enough to share still next time, I won't. That memorable you won't want to share. No longer serving volcano black rolls, tho absolutely serving amazingly wonderful dishes. Volcano black pancakes still available at breakfast. We kept on oooing and ahhhing and asking about the chef. Our servers Gale and Lily, who provided the most awesome service told us "Chef Lance" (as he is affectionately called) moved over from the Mariposa (Restaurant in Neiman Marcus) over a year ago. Further research revealed Chef Lance Kosaka has brought experience from noteworthy restaurants: Top of Waikiki, Merriman's, 53 By the Sea, and most recently Mariposa. I am hoping he will bring in a notable creme brulee that I loved at both the Top as well as Mariposa! Not wanting the deliciousness of Chef Steve's cooking to end, I also ordered a warabi salad to go for the next day. It was...just as wonderful as the other dishes we enjoyed. Thank you to Servers Gale and Lily, Chef Steve, actually...the entire staff who elevated a casual evening of dining to be a most memorable experience! Thank you to sister friend Karen who insisted we dine here, for the most wonderful company and meal. Validated parking in the building accessed on Seaside. Validated for either 2 or 3 hours depending on the promotion. Kamaaina discount of 10 percent given. Will we be back? Absolutely. And I won't wait so long this time to return!

There are a few tables,…read morebut the beauty of this place is that you're not paying for the ambiance, you're paying for delicious no frills prime rib, and if you're lucky, lobster tail too! We ordered the prime rib & 3 lobster tails special for $69.99 and fed three people (one is a smallish person). We ordered a back-up plate lunch with the smoked ham steaks that we barely touched, because we were so full. Most prices are under $30, and they have a great breakfast menu as well. Even though it was a busy day, our food came out in just a few minutes. Glad this place is still around. Can't wait to go again next time I need a cheap protein boost!

It's a "hole in the wall" type ambiance. But when the quality is this good for the money, ambience takes a back seat. We went on a day that missed out on the best prime rib in the state. Those days are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. And you best get there before closing cuz they run out fast! They also have the best pork chops I've ever eaten and those too run out early. We got there late on Wednesday and had the NY steak. It was a great size and tender cut with asparagus. It was excellent. We also had the chicken but was no longer crispy as we had takeout and didn't get to eat it until a couple of hours later but the flavor was good. Parking is street only so you best find a side street and park as it's busy. They deal in cash only! **** Most all plates come with a salad and rice.
