really love mary lane cafe. been coming here for many years. it's the perfect brunch spot for after a hike in the angeles crest. we had the breakfast plates and couldn't say enough good things about them. the bacon was incredible crispy without being overcooked. potatoes were flavorful and well cooked with a light smattering of green onions. eggs were eggs i suppose lmao. toast was chewy yet crisp with a good bite and the homemade strawberry jam paired so well with that perfectly buttered toast. i loved this meal so much. vibes here are vintage. the furniture is an eclectic assortment of what looks to be thrifted finds, piecemealed together and not matching. some seats at the main table were way too low and i'm like 5'4 which is average. maybe they need a really big cushion cuz it renders those chairs useless. and my friend said the ac could be stronger.. all in all, a little random cafe in the middle of the neighborhood. it's cool!

There was an extremely long wait for a simple avocado toast. I ordered the fried egg over hard, and it came out soupy. I returned it to the kitchen, and they got it right. There is a lot of seating, but it's warm inside. I paid $16. The folks who work here are friendly. The place can be cleaner, but the ants and dead flowers in old swamp water on the table are not the vibe. I would not return here. For the prices of the items, they should do better. The avocado toast was OK.

The reviews don't lie--this place is consistently out of products, prices don't match what's on the menu, food takes far too long, and the tables are often left dirty. What's disappointing is that instead of taking customer feedback to improve, management chooses to argue and make excuses for the poor operations. It's unfortunate because the spot itself is cute and has so much potential, but it's all being wasted.

The food? 10/10. Been here twice now and their Boschoff Breakfast hits every time. However... imagine my disappointment when I checked their hours the night before to see if they would be open tomorrow for their coffee that I've been craving, drive over just for them to be closed trying to give grace to small businesses but saying you're open and not actually being open isn't sitting right with me.

This place has a taco Mexican food pop up 6pm - 10pm Tues to Sat ! It's pretty good. Don't skip it, worth trying for taco Tuesdays.

Mary Lane Cafe is the epitome of cozy cottage charm! From the moment I stepped inside, I wish I lived closer to make stopping here a part of my regular routine. This woman-owned, small family business is a gem which offers a lovely place to dine and meet with friends over a latte or one of their home baked pastries. (The Ube Coconut Cake and Monster Brookie are epic!) My Borschoff Breakfast was full of freshly sautéed spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and feta aside scrambled eggs and perfectly crispy sourdough. Next time I will add her famous pancakes or liege waffle to my order. Prices are uber reasonable. This lovely cafe, which used to be a dairy, boasts many outdoor seating options and a large airy indoor space to enjoy. You can add some of this charm to your own home from her newly opened store a few doors down @MaryLaneMercantile. Two thumbs way up. Highly recommend!

Delicious food and great service! We had avocado toast and french toast with berries. They even made the *cutest* oatmeal for my baby! Will definitely be back.

This review is long overdue. In short, Mary Lane Cafe is amazing. We've been dining here since 2018. My mom and I found it at random and in her last years of life, I can happily say that whenever I mentioned I was ordering from or taking her to Mary Lane, she had a huge beaming smile on her face. She was able to not only meet the wonderful owner, but also had long conversations with the owners mom (who was one of my favorite reasons to visit Mary Lane aside from the food, she's absolutely adorable and so kind). Even after my mom passed, my husband and our sons have spent countless Sundays and random weekdays hanging out and dining at Mary Lane. We bring everyone who comes to visit us from out of town to experience one of our favorite eateries in the SGV. The fact that it's family owned and run makes it feel more like visiting an aunts or grandparents house lol. The vibe is immaculate and the food is well done; not greasy or overly salty or sweet. Artisanal food that one might enjoy in the comfort of their own home. The wait times might be a little longer than fast food, but if that's the service a person is looking for, then there are loads of other spots that cater to instant gratification rather than quality. Get to know the MVPs at Mary Lane, and you won't be sorry. They're always super kind and courteous, great with kids (which we seem to be veering away from in this day and age), they almost always have parking (who can say that in SoCal) and their food is top tier. Thanks you guys for making our weekends time and time again. The SGV wouldn't be the same without you.

So so soo many things wrong with this place. Waited 50+ mins for food and drinks (party of 3). The server/barista was socializing instead of taking orders, looking at her phone and smiling and laughing, and didnt try at all to make our drinks. Guests who were "good friends of the owner" kept walking behind the counter helping themselves to grab silverware and drinks. We asked for a refund and the barista didn't apologize and just said it was busy.... It really was not busy at all. $90 for 4 entrees and 3 drinks. Only one drink was ready for us. - No air conditioner - dirty tables with dishes on every table (I had to move plates to another table to make space for us to sit) - messy coffee bar As someone who has years of restaurant experience, this was the worst experiences I've had at a cafe. I understand that the restaurant could be understaffed, but a system where the cashier can know what is 86'd would be helpful. They seemed to be out of everything. Management needs to hop in and create a system for this restaurant to actually make this place work.

A fellow yelper and friend, Ed L. took me out to breakfast for my birthday on my actual birthday. Yes, it was a few weeks ago and this review is a tad late. However, I celebrate all month and now getting around to all my reviews! lol As I approached the breakfast place, I was so confused. It was in the middle of a residential area. I probably parked in front of someones house and walked towards this place which looked like a house from the outside. I honestly didn't know what to make of this place at first. I was very very confused and I felt like I was walking into my great grandma's house. It was retro-ish, vintagy, yet quirky. First thing I noticed is that it is family owned. I love mom and pops and support small business. That's why I really really really wanted to like this place. BUT, I had to knock some stars down for the order mishaps and the lack of service. The food itself is good. It's really hard to get breakfast wrong... On the day of my visit, this establishment was ran by a mother-daughter duo. The daughter was the cashier/server and the mom was in the kitchen making the magic happen. Thus, if you are on a time crunch, this isn't the place to go. It'll take about 30+ minutes to get your food. Also, we had ordered extra sides which didn't come out and had to ask for coffee refills multiple times before we could get it. Sigh... I really wanted to like this place. Would I come back? Yes, I would if I'm not hungry and have 2+ hours to spare.

The cafe can be easily missed, its located at the corner next to the gym. The inside is very antique and it feels like i went back in time. The decor and sittings is placed nicely inside and in the patio. Food was great, no complaints. I would definitely come back for breakfast/brunch but i wouldn't want to order the Avocado toast again bc i can make that at home.

I just found this cute little cafe right off the corner from my groomer! And the owner lady told me that she's constantly recvd mails supposed to be delivered to the groomer...as their address are both shown 301, except south/north :) I shall tell my groomer coming to visit this lovely cafe, to p/u her mails in person and to try out their food. LOL. My orders: 1). Oatmeal- 2). Side order of fried eggs: yes, I ordered it over hard, yet it's really a bit too hard to bite on..(: Side of bacon is real tasty strips. Overall it's a good neighborhood joint meeting w/ friends, or just come alone. Peaceful.

The food is consistently good at Mary Lane and it's always fresh. The waitstaff is very friendly even when they're busy; they give you honest and transparent wait times when they're slammed. I'm mentioning this because I see a lot of reviews harping on the wait times but this isn't a big restaurant. It's a small family owned business and if you've ever worked in a kitchen or the service industry, you'd understand they're doing great. They offer outdoor and indoor seating that'll make you feel like you're eating at a good friend's house; very cozy and welcoming. My only critique would be training the FOH staff to be a bit more regimented. I.E., making sure drinks come out quickly and offer refills to coffee if long wait times are expected, bringing out cutlery and/or condiments early, giving updates on wait times, etc.. Maybe have more dedicated roles for each staff member so they can be focused on that one task. Like I said, this is a family owned business so I'm sure the FOH doesn't have classic training/experience in the industry but once that becomes more streamlined, they'll be perfect.

Ask the Community - Mary Lane Cafe

Is this place still open? I've tried going, but it was closed and when I call they don't pick up.

I called today, 11/12/22 and they were still open. They are closed Mondays and have shortened hours Wed - Sun so maybe it was outside of the operating hours?

    Do they sell whole cakes?

Yes, you can call 626-766-1655 to place an order for a cake.

    Do they accept cash?

Not sure. I used my debit card. You should give them a call just to make sure. :)

How are they delivering? I'm a patient in a recovery facility and I can only order delivery.

If you can order through delivery apps, we are on grubhub, ubereats, and doordash. Thanks!

Good amount of black truffle flavor. Mushrooms weren't overly mushy and good flavor and texture. Gruyère cheese brought a lovely salty, cheesy flavor. Overall, okay, but not great. Arugula wilts and it was tough to eat after I reheated it in the toaster oven. I was advised to reheat the danish in the toaster oven before consuming, which I did. DUBAI PISTACHIO CHOCOLATE CROISSANT Rich and very pistachio-forward flavor! This was done well! Tasted like dubai chocolate in croissant form. However, the croissant was not as crispy and was on the softer side. Crispy kataifi on top brought that crispy texture. Savory unsweetened pistachio custard. The sweetness came from the chocolate drizzle over the croissant and the kataifi. Overall, enjoyed it! CHOCOLATE PECAN PRESSED CROISSANT Crispy, crunchy, flaky, buttery, caramelized layers! It does remind you of a flattened more crispier, buttery palmier and maybe even a mille feuille! The plain pressed croissant tasted like caramelized sugar with a buttery flakiness from the croissant. Recommend! 8 PCS ASSORTED MINI CHOUX SET You choose what flavors you want. I chose the following. Black Sesame Hoijicha - Strong hojicha flavor right off the bat! I barely taste the black sesame, except when you eat the black sesame paste at the top of the cream puff. When you bite into the whole cream puff, you only get the hojicha flavor. Very good and if you're a hojicha lover, you won't regret getting this! Taro Salted Egg Yolk - A new flavor that was added recently. You can taste the taro on top and the salted egg yolk on the bottom when eaten separately. But when eaten together, depending on where your tongue hits, you get more taro or salted yolk. Choux pastry is crunchy. This was delicious and definitely a repeat order too! I asked the owner and they will continue with this new flavor for now. They did not have the Koyamaen Matcha, when I purchased it via HotPlate. They ran out of it when I went to pick-up at the bakery, so they offered a refund or to replace with another mini choux. They brought back the Maple Pecan with Dark Chocolate Coating as a temporary replacement for the Koyamaen Matcha. But I opted for another Taro Salted Egg Yolk. Classic 64% Chocolate, Lemon Delight, Signature Biscoff Crunch were my other mini choux orders. All consistently delicious and done well. Please see my previous review on these flavors. RASPBERRY, ROSE & LYCHEE CROIFFIN This new edition was not part of Hotplate. I had to order it separately in-store. But wow, this was absolutely delightful! The cream had a pink color with swirls of raspberry compote and there were pieces of real lychee inside! The rose flavor was not overpowering, but complemented both the raspberry cream. The croiffin was flaky, crispy and buttery! This is my new favorite, very good and well done! I will continue to order this as long as it is available! JAPANESE BLACK SESAME CREAM TOP Love all things black sesame. So had to order this! This took a bit of wait time, much longer than expected. This was a simple latte style iced coffee with black sesame cream top. You can taste the coffee, but there was also milk in it, so it was a milkier coffee. Once you mix the black sesame cream top, all you can taste is the black sesame. So yes, it is a strong black sesame flavor in this drink. It was good, but not great to order for the second time. ONLINE ORDER Ordered via Hotplate.com. This has been the easiest way to order and pick-up. Super easy and not fussy at all! Once you order once via Hotplate.com, they give you the option for drop alerts via text when Browned goes live for future orders. You can also order directly via website as well. You can see Browned straight ahead as you arrive from the parking elevator. Personally, I recommend street parking. If you arrive before noon, there is free street parking right outside of The One Residential. It is a bakery from Macau that focuses on crispy cream puffs that aren't too sweet. They come in unique flavors like Earl Grey, green tea, blueberry, and Dong Ding Oolong. I grabbed their six piece cream puff set for my first visit, as I wanted to try out more flavors at once. Luckily for me, I got some of the last few items as the owner explained that they tend to sell out. The puffs run a bit smaller than what you might expect from other competitors; however, it didn't deter me. The spot does not have a lot of seating aside from a few barstools, so you might have to plan for that. Once I got my cream puffs, the texture is what got me. The crispy outside gives a nice crunch when you bite in, then you get hit with soft cream filling that is "not too sweet". With clean flavors that come out without any artificial aftertaste, I really enjoyed what I had. The owner comes from Hong Kong as she used to run a bakery there as well before this. If you have the chance to talk with her you'll see how much she loves what she does. She lit up when asked about the flavors and shared a couple quick stories about her time there. Super friendly. Overall, I left happy and already thinking about when I should visit next. If you have been searching for a cream puff done a little differently, try Browned. You'll be surprised.

I had kei coffee house's hojicha a couple days ago so I had pretty strong memories and kei's was soo mid. Chapresso's hojicha is so underrated and deserves more love! I also got their matcha strawberry. Their matcha is sourced from an award-winning farm in Asia and WOW it really tasted good. I just had the viral Matsu Matcha a few hours before too and boy chapresso did not disappoint! Also they use chopped up strawberries I saw the matcha and hojicha are freshly made to order and hand whisked too :) My friend also said the gyokuro tasted like the one from orobae in oc (iykyk)

I was so excited for the gyokuro milk tea because gyokuro is probably my favorite tea, and I can't quite describe what the gyokuro here tasted like. I can say, however, it didn't taste anything like gyokuro. It was weirdly floral, not quite jasmine-like floral, and had a weird and honestly kind of gross flavor I guess is a way to put it. It completely lacked the fresh buttery greens quality of real gyokuro. The jasmine was okay. I gave up on the hojicha without even trying it after everyone else wound up not liking their teas either (they didn't dislike it as much as I did with the gyokuro, it just wasn't great). Reviews seem positive for this place so I dunno what was up with our drinks. While the tea flavor, at least for the jasmine, was strong, it was so strong it tasted almost artificial (compared to similar tea-forward places).

The drinks were so refreshing!! before getting our drinks, staff hand delivered about food, and were so welcoming and nice! For the scallion pancake, I do think it was missing some basil or garlic sauce in the wrap. For mapo tofu, it was well seasoned, and the tots were very crispy!!! I love the addition of the 626 sign and the art inside. I love coming back to support a true asian american spot!!! taiwan represent!!!

It consisted of a house made scallion pancake with chicken tender, egg, cabbage, Thai basil, and cheese. It looked pretty small similar to a snack wrap but it was very filling. The chicken tender was similar to popcorn chicken. Wished it was more crispy since it seemed pretty dry and not much of a crunch. The pancake was a bit bland but I enjoyed that it wasn't as oily as scallion pancake usually is at other places. Overall, I felt like this was slightly overpriced but it was worth trying! The Black Sesame Matcha ($8.50) was amazing! I got it in large so that was extra $1. Requested it with regular ice, half sweet, and oat milk and really enjoyed that it wasn't packed with ice and not overly sweet. It's nice that they don't charge extra for milk substitutions! The matcha tasted very rich in flavor and I could tell they most likely use ceremonial quality matcha. The sesame was very nutty and really enjoyed that they make it in-house. This was definitely one of my favorite drinks! NOTE: it's very important to give it a good stir prior to drinking otherwise the sesame just sinks on the bottom! The Lychee Pear Blossom ($8) was so good! I got it half sweet with regular ice and it was just the right amount of sweetness and ice! Loved how they use fresh lychee and pear with no artificial colors or flavor! This drink was very refreshing and fruity! The green tea wasn't too overpowering and made the drink even more enjoyable! Overall, I really enjoyed my drinks and the wrap was ok. The prices are slightly higher than other cafes but it's nice that they use real fruits without any artificial flavors or colors unlike many other places!

The cruffins and cronuts are all delicious. Anything filled with cream is delicious. And anything with sweet potato is delicious. Parking is sometimes hard because there are a lot of yummy places nearby. There are a lot of fruit flies so beware. Also prices can be on the higher side. You can use the app to get rewards and discounts so it doesn't hurt your wallet to go every week, because it might happen, lol.

This particular location though, could use some work with consistency. The selection and quality of pastries and drinks seem to vary throughout my many visits. My top pastries are all of their croissant-like pastries, especially the Pastry Frank (filled with a savory sausage inside) and Mini Strawberry Lemon Cream Croissant (filled with a smooth and tangy lemon cream and fresh strawberries that add a tartness). Both of these have flaky, buttery exterior shells that are wonderful to bite into. For cakes, I love the strawberry soft cream cake. This cake is simple, light, and not too sweet. The thin layers of vanilla, soft cream, and strawberries blend excellently together. I appreciate that they provide free candles with whole cakes. An underrated cake is the green tea roll cake, which is delicious, but not ideal for celebrations.
