Everyone should visit this classic southern coastal restaurant at least once in their lives. It's been here forever and even survived Katrina that destroyed so much around it in 2005. Lunch this week was my third visit and the first in probably 10 years. The setting, service, and class of the place remains the same. You feel welcome and then comfortable. No rush here. We had the crab cake appetizer--highly recommended, lumps of crabmeat sautéed in butter. Lunch specials come with salads. For my taste, a lot of high-end steakhouses could learn from Mary's Caesar salad. The romaine was fresh and crunchy. The dressing had lots of flavor and was judiciously used. Even the croutons are worth a nod. We choose different main courses. My seafood bienville was wonderful with such a rich cheese sauce and lots of fish and crab ( shrimp were skimpy though). the soft shell crabs were overcooked, unfortunately and that's why the four stars. The sauce with the pasta helped to rescue that dish. I don't want another 10 years to pass before visiting again! read more

This place is certainly a pack of contradictions. The building is aesthetically very pleasing, and the interior decor is much the same. Though the layout of the place seems a bit off kilter (this is due to it being an older building that doesn't prioritize open concept dining). Most of our food was delicious, but some dishes seemed to fall just short of the bar for a place that touts "fine dining". The plating of our food left much to be desired, minimalistic to the point of coming off lazy while the room around you screams luxurious. Where we hit what may be the biggest point of contention for us is service. The servers walking around who's sole job is replacing water? Spectacular. Our server who left to run to assist another table while we were in the middle of ordering our appetizers and then only brought out what we had been able to order before she darted away...who we didn't see for quite a while when we were ready to order our entrees...who only seems to pay attention to the beginning of a sentence when she brought us a desert that we were only discussing getting between ourselves? The manager whom went dining room to dining room enquiring about service and food but ignored our table? Yeeeeaaaaah, not great. The place isn't awful, the food is overall pretty decent, and historically it's a fun little stop. But I can't say that if I were in the area again I'd be bothered to stop back in. read more

This has to be one of the cutest restaurants I have been to in a really long time. The inside is much bigger than it looks from the outside- there are lots of different rooms for seating arrangements. I would highly recommend making a reservation here. We were visiting from out of town but walked in and got seated right away. I have a shellfish allergy which made it hard to find things to eat since everything had crab but the menu choices I picked were so so so delicious. Loved the pork chops for my appetizer and the chicken pasta and salad for my main! They also have a lot of amazing desserts. Probably one of the nicer restaurants in the Biloxi area. read more

We had reservations here on a Wed night. The evening started out well. Our server knew the menu backwards and forwards. She showed concern for my husband's allergies, made good recs, and checked with us frequently. This all changed later on in the meal. After our appetizers, we rarely saw her. We got the impression she was overwhelmed with her larger parties in other rooms, and we got lost in the shuffle. Our drinks from the bar arrived lukewarm without ice crystals so we think they sat at the bar waiting to be delivered to us. Our ice cream dessert arrived melted. She probably did her best but no one helped her although there were plenty of people standing around. The dinner took 2.75 hrs for two people. Food was just okay. Menu reads well but the food didn't meet our expectations. Lamb chops were overcooked, And when sent back to the kitchen, came out raw. The whole flounder was over salted on the broiled side and the other side wasn't browned at all. My shrimp and crab pasta was also a little salty and the pasta was overcooked. Crab cakes were very good, though. We were never offered bread like the other tables around us. Ambiance was fine...typical historic, older converted home but our seating was on the cold side and drafty with lots of traffic through the room. Bring a sweater. Overall, just an okay dining experience for around $200 including tip. read more

An original restaurant of America. Est 1737, that makes it 286 years young as of this posting. We dined in a private dining room with a group menu. The Owner, Bob Mahoney, treated us to jokes & tales for 10 minutes and had our group in stitches. Rapid fire funnies in his southern accent were an absolute highlight. Then dinner... very good! Personally I had the Shrimp & Crab AuGratin. At first it didn't look very good, but once you dig in, it was amazing. I practically licked the plate clean. Would definitely order again. Went to celebrate a birthday and was VERY disappointed. The service was terrible. It was almost one hour to get our food and the restaurant was NOT crowded server never came by to apologize or reassure us. In fact he was not visible most of the time. Another server occasionally felt bad and brought drink refills as her larger table, ordered, ate, and left before we were served. Mary Mahoney's Old French House is certainly on the must visit list for most locals and tourists in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. This restaurant opened in 1964 inside a historic home that dates back to 1737. There are two entrances you can use to enter the restaurant with one on the side directly taking you into their beautiful courtyard and then you have the front entrance that faces the beach which takes through a shopping center with some other businesses that also leads you into the amazing courtyard area. So the courtyard is definitely worth spending some time exploring and you need to pay your respects to "Patriarch" the over 2000 year old oak tree that has an intimate connection to the restaurant you can learn about in my review video below. So from the courtyard the entrance to the restaurant during my visit was through the bar and as there was no hostess on duty so I had to wander a bit before I found somebody to finally seat me. Once I finally was seated there seemed to be a bit of confusion over who was going to be my server so that took a bit longer to sort out until awhile later I finally got my designated server who was fantastic from that point forward. I enjoyed the French Bread and butter that was brought out and then I ordered a seafood gumbo, the Queen Ixolib Stuffed Fish and for dessert a Praline Parfait. The seafood gumbo was better than most I've had outside of Louisiana but it certainly doesn't measure up to most in New Orleans. The Queen Ixolib Stuffed Fish had great potential although it was served with bare spaghetti noodles topped with half a roasted tomato so if this dish simply had a seafood cream sauce or other type of sauce added over the top of it then it could have really been something amazing but served as it was it only reached a just "good" level while the bare pasta was BLAH. The praline parfait was nice while also being a rather simple dish although it was quite a generous serving. After I finished eating my waiter gave me a fantastic tour of the restaurant and they had some really fantastic private meeting/dining room spaces that could host some great celebrations. I really appreciated the candid guidance my server provided me when I was making my selections on the menu and the great service I was given after the initial confusion. Overall I have definitely had better food in my life and this place might have been far better in the past but for now it is still good food although some of the items like my fish could greatly benefit from a bit of tweaking some things. The back of the menu here includes a story that says Mary Mahony's is better than most of the top classic restaurants in New Orleans and I would definitely have to strongly disagree with that assertion as things stand currently. I would certainly eat here again although I wouldn't go in expecting a classic New Orleans restaurant experience or New Orleans level food. The old bar here is worthy spot to enjoy yourself in the old space. If you find yourself here make sure to request Brent as your server. A must when I'm in Biloxi. Food and service never disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit

This is a beautiful restaurant in an old house from the 1700's. There is an old live old tree over 2,000 years old in the garden. We ate inside and had a nice view of the garden. Our lunch started with their World Famous gumbo. It was very good. Next, we tried the soft shelled crab and fried crab claws. They were cooked perfect and were very tasty. Our entrees, stuffed flounder and shrimp and crab augratin, came with a side salad. We enjoyed both entrees and unfortunately did not have room for dessert. Guess we will have to come back. During our recent visit to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, upon the recommendation of a friend, we dined at Mary Mahoneys one day. We were so pleased with our experience that, two days later, we dined here again. The food was superb, the service some of the best we've ever experienced, and the ambience well beyond the norm!! The setting, an early 18th century French colonial dwelling that has withstood numerous hurricanes, is very much an attraction! What an amazing sense of history!! The gumbo and shrimp and grits were some of the best we've ever tasted, and the broiled stuffed flounder was amazing!! We found that our friend's hearty recommendation was well-deserved, and we most definitely will return to Mary Mahoneys on future visits!! Fine dining at it's finest!! I spent my birthday in the area and came here to celebrate. This place is amazing! I loved the old building and the decor and the history contained within. It was so cool to read about Mary Mahoney and to learn of the history contained in the restaurant. The service here is impeccable. Everyone was so kind and helpful and everyone made sure our dining experience was excellent. We started with the lamb chop appetizer. It was expertly prepared and tasted delicious. All meals come with the salad and I had mine with their house dressing and it was great. For my entree, I went with the redfish topped with lump crabmeat. It was perfect! I loved the seasoning used and the meal was succulent. I also tried their bread pudding and it was good as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. Came here for a nice family dinner on a recent road trip through Biloxi. The last time I came here was after a high school dance over 20 years ago, so this place brought back fond memories. We started our meal out with the escargot which never disappoints. We used the left over garlic butter to dip the delicious bread they serve here. For entrees my gf got the Queen Ixolib and I had the Veal Antonio. We both really liked our food. We finished our meal off with the bread pudding which was also great. After a long day on the road, this meal really hit the spot. What I also liked was that even though it said it was fine dining, it wasn't super stuffy and had a casual ambiance for my family to enjoy without feeling underdressed. Service was also great throughout the meal. Our server went above and beyond and really made sure we were taken care of. This is the go to spot in Biloxi. I travel the Gulf shore from Texas to Florida every winter and I have to stop here. It is usually for lunch. The gumbo is fantastic. I often order the ixolib (notice the play on words). The stuffed fish is outstanding. My wife is allergic to fish and the beef choices are amazing also. Great ambiance and setting.
