This food is nowhere close to actual north indian food. Their Shahi Paneer was very sweet and lacked any kind of spice. Even the salt was missing in the paneer curry. It's over priced for the kind of food being served. read more

Finally got a chance to try this place, what a fabulous find! Brooke, our server, was super helpful in explaining the menu items and very attentive. We had ALOO GOBI MASALA, CHICKEN VINDALOO, CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA, all medium heat and GARLIC NAAN BREAD. It was all delicious, the cauliflower and veggies were sooo good that I didn't even eat the rice. So much flavor! Our waiter was very helpful and informative. They have items clearly marked for vegetarian and vegan. We also tried an Indian beer that was very refreshing. I ordered spinach and chickpeas (vegan) and the best garlic naan I've had in my life, also vegan. It came with all the rice we could want. My husband loved the mixed Tandoor grill, but would order chicken tandoor next time, as it is his favorite. Great service, wonderful views and atmosphere. The manager came to talk to us, check on how our meal was. Great staff! And yes, everything is clearly cooked fresh, even fresh herbs. If this restaurant was in D.C., we'd eat at Masala Bay all the time. Earlier review: Outstanding food and wonderful views! This is some of the best Indian food we have had in some time. The chef will also make special food on request, including requested dishes for vegans. We saw the staff picking fresh herbs and veggies in its garden. That fresh! My husband ordered #3 including butter chicken and I ordered saag version often called palak paneer, one of the most popular Indian dishes. The staff was excellent. We were the only customers when we arrived at opening, and we receive great waiter service, fantastic food that was clearly cooked up fresh upon request. This is rates with some of the best Indian food we have had, and we can't wait to return in the spring. My husband plans to order the tandoori chicken and I plan to order vegan chana masala. I'm from New Jersey which is popular for Indian food but this restaurant wins the prize hands down. The best papdi Chaat , paneer Tikka , kofta, kababs and chicken entrees. The orange mint and watermelon mojitos were to die for (fresh fruit!). Most of the all , the view cannot be matched , especially during sunset. More serene than the beach !! I eat Indian food at various Indian restaurant around the United States. This time my family was on vacation in OBX for the July 4th weekend and we wanted to eat some Indian food. When we arrived at Masala Bay I was amazed by the quality of the food and the service. The view was beautiful as you can see the sea from indoors. The only complaint I would have is that the wait time took quit a while. Although it is expected as I think they were cooking the food from scratch. The decor in the restaurant was a mixture of classic beach decor such as the garage windows and outdoor seats with umbrellas and an added Indian vibe with certain decorations. There was Indianish music playing in the background (only instrumental). Overall it created an interesting unique vibe which I had not yet to experienced till my arrival at Masala Bay. They also had a few piers outside of the restaurant I am unsure if it is a part of the restaurant. But it was a very nice place to sit when I was done eating. read more

Prices are good and the menu is full of delicious choices. Fast service too. We tried the spinach saag dish with chickpeas, garlic naan and chicken tikka Marsala and it was wonderful. We eat here a lot. A: it's the only Indian joint on the OBX and B: it's tasty!! Service has been hit or miss but I'm not harping on that point because it's a new/ish establishment (i'm sure they'll get those kinks worked out soon). We usually share everything, my husband and I... And normally get samosas, chicken lettuce wraps, shahi Paneer & chicken tikka Masala. We order 2 baskets of the garlic naan now because one basket was never enough (can't leave any of those precious sauces behind!) I do wish they served the crispy bread with three sauces that most Indian places serve before a dinner... That's really the only thing masala bay is missing. If the weather is nice and not too windy ask to eat outside, it's another big plus to dining here! read more

Very good Indian food. Only indian restaurant around kitty hawk and the food wont dissapoint you. Do try the shamsavera kofta. Its appropriately named coz you can eat it anytime. Baigan bharta was also good. My rating for the resraurant is 4 and 1 more star for the view. Anna was very friendly. Vegetarian food rarely makes me happy but the veggie food here falls into the exceptions list. Unfortunately I was not in a mood for non veg food today so I cannot speak to that but I am sure it will be good. read more

We've passed by this restaurant several times on our way to and from the OBX and looked forward to trying it when the opportunity arose. Came here for the first time for a Sunday lunch and was underwhelmed by the taste, quality, and preparation of the food. Chicken wings with mango peri peri sauce: wings had tough meat and did not seem to be adequately tossed in the sauce. Sauce itself was lacking in quality - seemed to come from package. Although we ordered with spice level "hot" the wings came fairly mild. We shared a lamb and chicken lunch special: while the quantity was enough for a pair just wanting light lunch the rice was dry, the naan was under-baked and under salted (I could tear a piece off and roll it back into a dough ball), and the lamb and chicken were also very dry and over cooked. Margarita was delicious. My fiancé ordered a draft beer which had large chunky sediment at the bottom... indicating the draft lines are in need of a serious cleaning. I was highly anticipating the meal because the views and location are absolutely idyllic. I just wished the food was of a higher standard. read more

The view was about the only nice thing about the place. It is a beautiful restaurant but the pictures of the food on the website are extremely miss leading. We ordered a standard chicken curry which came out about 5 minuets from placing our order which I thought a bit strange. The dish itself had to be the greasiest chicken curry I had ever seen. I went to this bayside restaurant while on a writers' retreat with friends. The service was excellent, and the manager attentive. And the food? Magnificent. The rice was light and fluffy, the vegetables crisp and delicious. Three of us had the luncheon chicken platter with chicken curry, chicken korma, and spinach paneer, while the fourth member of our party had the "shrimp cocktail"--grilled shrimp with peppers, onions, and a delicious onion yogurt dipping sauce. Every dish was delicious and seasoned according to our request. Dessert was a milky rice dish with a light, delicate flavor--a perfect ending to the meal. If you're in or near the Outer Banks and want some delicious Indian food, I highly recommend Masala Bay. read more
