After my eye appointment at San Marino Clinic, we walked next door to Masamitsu for lunch. What a gem! My husband's Sukiyaki Donburi was delicious. My unagi was one of the best I have ever eaten . I also had very well prepared baked salmon cut roll. Our server Mia was a delightful and attentive young lady . We will definitely have lunch there again whenever we visit the eye clinic. I would go there more often but we live in Oregon. Next time I will try unagi with fresh water eel. read more

Our party of 2 ordered the oysters and two premium sushi dinners. The oysters were good. But the miso soup came out with it. Then quite soon after the sushi came out. Basically the oaceBut each piece the rice would fall apart right as you pick it up. The wasabi was uneven on the sushi, some sushi had too much wasabi, but some had too little. Everything came out so fast we felt rushed to leave. As we were starting to eat oysters the miso soup came out. Before the oysters were finished the sushi came out. Not even half way thru the sushi the chawanmushi, which is a hot item that wraps up the meal, came out, and the server took off the lids, so I had to ask for the lids back so I didn't have to eat cold chawanmushi after sushi. For the decor, location (in one of the, if not THE, most affluent neighborhoods in SGV, and their price point, it certainly was a rather disappointing meal for our Saturday night. Maybe if we did the omakase the experience would've been much better? But that would not speak well for the establishment either. Sushi restaurants have been opening left and right in the past few years years in SoCal, the competition is fierce. With the many options we can choose from, I would be hard pressed to come here again, even though it's so close to where I live. This place used to be Yoshida before Covid and now it's been completely redone. The interior is gorgeous, and it's much more high-end. And trust me, you're gonna pay for that. The quality and presentation are excellent, there's no debating that. It's also very expensive which is fine if you're gonna leave a sushi bar full, but after over $300 for two adults, and a 14-year-old boy, we were all still hungry. If you drive a Land Rover and are dripping in diamonds, this may be the place for you. If you drive a Subaru with bumper stickers and wear silver jewelry from Mexico (me), then this may be above your price point. I don't know that we'll go back. Instead, I'd rather drive to downtown LA to find something that's also excellent but where the cuts are bigger and it's a little less pretentious. read more

Come here knowing that you will enjoy elegantly prepared traditional Edomae cuisine at a premium level, and you will pay accordingly. Highly recommended if you are ok with $150 per person - omakase cuisine and dessert (see photos and courses). Gratuity and tax is separate. Sake selections vary in price so ask about quality levels and pricing that you are comfortable with before committing to a bottle - 720ml size bottles only. Beers are available too. With that, the sake choices were honestly presented by the manager and it was a perfect price-to-quality selection for the experience. Reservations are required. Don't walk in and expect to order and eat. This is understandable due to the level of skill and preparation time required per guest. Strictly Omakase formatted menu and desserts. There is no ordering a la carte or by piece. I highly suggest an option to order more nigiri pieces prior to dessert. For example, I would have ordered an extra uni (sea urchin), seared o toro (fatty blue fin tuna), or kohada (gizzard shad). However, another reviewer noted that extra pieces were offered. Perhaps this is an option. The experience lasts about 2 hours. Highlights included: Service quality, attentiveness, kindness, professionalism. Sake service quality - temperature monitoring, pouring. Premium quality ingredients. Highly skilled preparation and execution. Clean and well organized - tables, sushi bar, restrooms floors, and rear kitchen. Formal chef's uniforms. Overall culinary skills levels were very high. Unexpected Surprises: Service quality - Server and manager communicated very well and described nicely the menu, sake choices, and ingredient specifics, and product fun facts. Desserts - Typically Edomae omakase meals feature simple desserts using high quality seasonal ingredients. Often these are very tasty yet very simple. The dessert selection exceeded expectations! Deserves this rating for the Omakase that they had located in this area. We don't have Omakase like this without having to drive west closer to LA or to Pasadena. So this is given the rating in comparison to the very very few options out here. Many have had Omakases before. But for those who have not, just know... that Omakase many a times isn't meant to make you extremely full or feeling stuffed. Its small dishes spread throughout and you're there not just to eat to get full but it's an experience. So if you're a big eater and expect these insane portions then this isn't for you. I also felt the workers and the chefs were exactly what I expected them to be. Super nice and attentive. That's what the Japanese are known for great service. When I left I was reminded about how much I miss Japan because of this level of attention and service. The food for the most part was really good. The beef was a bit salty for me. And I felt the last piece of eel could have been put in a different order cause I was expecting a very decadent last dish before the dessert but that's just a preference. I don't question the chef they present it the way they feel the food should be consumed so I am happy to experience different methods. The main thing that's stood out for me is the uni, steamed egg, and the Harry's strawberries. I could eat a whole freaking bowl of the strawberries and cream. And when I said that the staff asked if I wanted another. I declined but... honestly... the temptation was definitely there! I had VERY high expectations since it's $150 per person. We've been to other omakases and always had a great time so I was excited to see what they have to offer. Both exterior and interior met the standard and gave off a zen vibe. Love the utensils, the music and light seafood smell mixed w new furnish smell. We were seated close to the entry door and the host stand, felt like we were cramped in to the corner. Waitresses had to walk behind us multiple times because the seat was so close to the host stand. We kept being asked to move the chair forward mid conversation...not very happy about that. Maybe the seating in the corner should be taken out for a better dining experience. Or make sure everyone to fit right in the middle of the bar. Food was awesome. It was on point. Fish are fresh, presentation was wonderful and everything tasted very clean. Our chef was the highlight of our dinner lol, he was funny, informative and professional. Is it worth $150? Probably not. Two people came out to be $400 with tax and tips. Waitresses were under trained for sure. That made me wonder if the chef are real sushi chef since the service was clearly not up to the standard. Our chef was great though! Like mentioned above he seemed professional. Would I come back if they drop their price or make it all inclusive (tax & tip included) Yes. For the top quality food! Sushi chef is Japanese and they offer omakase menu only at the moment with a few items for kids such as chicken kaarage, beef udon and unagi rice. They completely renovated the restaurant and there is a private room inside for large party. The omakase is about 10 items that include some cooked dishes, sashimi and sushi. Yelp has $$$$ for this place abd you certainly could spend that but you can get out for between 20 and 30ish bucks a person too depending on what you order. I visited this place for the first time after pandemic. This location was used be my family's favorite sushi restaurant, Yoshida, in the town. This new sushi place was also great or even better than previous one. Clean and nice restaurant and all staffs are very friendly and professional. When I ordered uni rice it was not on the menu. The server was not sure if they could provide that order. She quickly communicated with chef and they made it happen!!! I appreciated and was happy to have beautiful and tasty uni rice bento. Tried the omakase based on good reviews here and it was a disappointment. Service was very very slow. There were 3 couples at the sushi bar and it took 2 to 2.5 hours to finish with a lot of waiting time. We arrived when they opened and it was 2 hours before the first table left. They only have 3 sushi chefs for the entire sushi bar and maybe 10 tables. The food was decent but nothing really stood out. Most of the sushi had a lot of sauce on it and maybe I prefer the pure fish without all the sauces. The omakase at sushi gen and sushi kisen are way better for less. I won't be back. read more

My family had ordered the omakase for me and I was delighted. The food was clean, fresh, and delicious. The egg steamed egg with the caviar and truffle was unique, and i would definitely enjoy that again. Since it was my first time there, I decided to order other dishes too. We had the omakase. The price of the omakase was $150 pp. A tad bit higher than what we expected especially when we did not even get any live prawns. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. A few courses were a bit too salty. The chawanmushi was excellent. Very silky and smooth. The seating at the back dining room was very comfortable and the lighting was just right. I gave a so so rating for this restaurant because the $150pp Omaskase experience was very ordinary relative to the type of fish that was served to the two of us. What puzzled me was we saw Kin Madai, California spot prawn, fresh oysters but it was not part of our Omakase. Our sushi chef that served us was great but he was also busy prepping incoming dinning room orders of sushi rolls. Some of our fish was cut by another chef and left at the cutting board as soon as we set down. I am used to having my sushi prepared in front of me one piece at a time and continuously. We were served a cooked salmon dish, lukewarm after we had 4 to 5 pieces of Sushi. And our sushi pieces resumed afterward. The only good thing was the pistachio cake desert. read more
