Never Again! Beware of this place! They have hidden rules they don't tell you about. The "unlimited" buffet is a joke -- you can only get each kebab once, and after about an hour they say you've had enough food. When we asked questions, they gave wrong info, then denied it later. The cook even came out and told us not to come back, and they threatened to call the police! Completely unprofessional, rude, and dishonest. We had no idea that it was a Brazilian steakhouse type setup, and we were in for such a treat. This is by far, my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. At first, I was a little taken back by the structure of the menu. It was $49 per person, but they kept bringing every item on the menu to our table and everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. Came in for a lunch special with four other friends. The food was excellent. The lunch special allows you to try a little bit of everything. All the meat was well seasoned and tasty. On Saturday, I visited Mashani Mediterranea in Roswell. The waiter was courteous and explained how to order. My friend and I ordered one meat portion and a shared salad. The food was delicious, and the service from the staff was great. However, when the food arrived, a man who seemed to be the owner asked if I was vegetarian. I said no, and he served my friend meat as well. We assumed we were sharing, but when the bill came, we were charged for two full meals instead of one meat and one salad. He adjusted it at first but later insisted we pay for two meat orders, becoming belligerent and disrespectful in the dining room. Despite enjoying the food and service from the staff, this experience was disappointing. Clearer communication is needed, and I won't be returning. read more

Mashawi rose like the wardat sharun out of Palestine about six weeks ago. I had passed this new restaurant several times over the past couple of weeks and was mildly curious as its sign stated that it featured Mediterranean food which I took to mean Italian, Greek and Turkish. I suggested to my wife and friends that we must try it out. Upon arrival, we found the lot full but we found a spot in a neighboring strip mall. Upon entering we discovered that most tables were occupied and we were glad that we had made reservations. We were warmly greeted by the owner/chef who was fully dressed excepting a toque and ushered to our table by Ali, dressed in black slacks, an untucked white shirt and black nitrile gloves. This provided a vivid impression in addition to serving as anti-bacterial protection. Ali proceeded to present the copious menu and pointed out what he considered to be some of the outstanding dishes. There was no need to choose as the whole menu was our oyster. We were provided with bottles of water and asked if we desired a libation. After taking our order, suddenly support staff came to our table and laid out a plethora of ramekins and small plates with a variety of delectable salads, hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, chicken schnitzel, and copious quantities of khubz (Arab pita bread) with a light touch of oil. These appetizers filled an additional adjoining table that was moved to support this cornucopia of dishes. I especially liked the beet & eggplant salads. The falafel and garlic tahini sauce were outstanding. I might add in passing that most tables held Muslim families with the women in hijabs. If indigenous Middle East people frequented this restaurant, the food must be legit. We were offered fantastic lentil soup. Jeff, a vegetarian, waxed poetically about this offering that was flavored with lemon juice. Then, the parade of waitstaff came with brochettes of chicken, beef steak, lamb chops, shrimp kabobs, lamb kufta, kibbe, etc. Mashawi is true to its name which is an Arabic word meaning any meat or vegetable that can be roasted or barbecued on an open fire. What is equally nice was the fact that we were not rushed and had time to fully enjoy the atmosphere of Arab music and the wonderful food. I am sorry that we did not have time to partake of the coffee and dessert as we had to leave for a stage play. Arlee, Jeff, Bambi and I will definitely return to this restaurant soon and wish it much success. I believe that it literally got off on the "right foot" and its concept and theme will sit well within the greater Alpharetta community. I might add that Mashawi also offers the opportunity to partake of its hookah bar and I wouldn't be surprised if they add belly dancers to their offerings.
