I wouldn't visit this place unless you have a massage scheduled somewhere else afterwards... When you visit Massage Envy for the first time, you are promptly greeted and engaged into friendly conversation by the seemingly pleasant reception staff. Like me, you may just be checking the place out as they have an attractive first-time client special, so what the heck right? No. The massage itself was very nice, which is why this review has 2 stars. The therapist was very friendly and professional, gave a great relaxing massage and discussed areas that he focused on with me afterward. So why is this terrible? Because then you have to leave. When you go to settle out at the front desk the friendly receptionist transforms into a pushy used car salesman, trying to convince you to sign up for a monthly membership. And no is not the correct answer. I treat myself to massages very rarely, perhaps once every 3-6 months. Would I like one every month? Sure. Do I want to pay for another monthly membership? No. And that's it, and should have been the end of it. But the sales pitch continues, and every bit of the hour I am trying to pay for is being erased. Not only was the sales technique ineffective, but the demeanor of the agent changed and she became rude after she realized I wasn't going to bite. Don't waste your time here. read more

Looking to try something other than Advil for your neverending pain? Look no further. I'm a medium believer in alternative forms of medicine, but massages et al are usually too rich for my blood. For a one-time introductory rate of $49/hour (you can also get 90 minutes for $75) with no commitment, you can't really go wrong. Unless you have fewer than $49 dollars, which is totally possible. It's kind of the Starbucks of massage, but I came in with a miserable headache (they were able to take me the same day I called) and left with a renewed sense of not wanting to kill myself and others. I am so glad I got a membership here. I have been going to this location since August and have really enjoyed my experience. That being said, I enjoy a medium pressure massage, so I can't speak to firm pressure/deep tissue experience. I have neck and upper back issues and the therapists always take a moment to ask me what I would like worked on that day. They always cater the massage to my current needs. The place is clean, the front desk staff is always so polite and welcoming. I love the quiet room as I wait for my appointment, I always like to get here early to spend a few minutes in calm before the massage. read more

The introductory price of $49 lured me in. And my massage was great. Must have gotten lucky with a good therapist. They tried to sell me their massage membership, which I think is a great deal! $59/month for 12 months, like a gym membership, no money down. Your benefit is getting one 50 mins massage a month. So basically, by joining, you guaranteed them 12 return visits, and you get the guaranteed massage price of $59. If you don't use your monthly massage, it rolls over to the next month. You also can get additional massages at $49 a pop as well. The downside is you cannot cancel unless you have a doctor's note that you can't get massage or if you move somewhere that doesn't have one of their branches within 25 miles. Also, they don't have showers there, so it's strictly a massage, not like an Urban Oasis massage, with a nice steam shower. So you have to do the math. I am seriously thinking about joining. Ah, the rooms. I like their rooms. You kind of have to wonder if you will get a nice room for $49. My friend once went to a place that the room wall doesn't go all the way up! Well, the room is quiet, dimly lit, nice music, nice sheets. I do hear what the other reviewers are saying about bad therapists. I've been a Massage Envy (ME) member for a couple of years - started at a location in Missouri and then I've come to this location twice ever since I've moved a few blocks away. The first massage was ok - can't remember who it was with. My second (today) was amazing - Allison. You MUST ask for her. I requested firm pressure and she was spot on...I've had maybe 15 therapists over my ME lifetime and only 2 or 3 have completely been outstanding and Allison was one. Since I'm a member, I don't get the sales talk, of course. To any non-member, if this is something in your budget, I would definitely recommend signing up. In St. Louis, the prices weren't that different ($49 for member vs around $65 for non-member) but since it's double here ($100 for non-member...likely due to the touristy location), I think the membership is the way to go. As to the tipping signs, the signs at Missouri locations were smaller but there were always signs at the front desk and in the massage room. I actually don't mind them for a couple of reasons. First, in an area which gets international tourists (who may not be used to our tipping customs), it's definitely good to have some friendly guidance. No one is standing there holding out their hand asking for a tip. But, some people need to be reminded that it is customary. The therapists make around only $15 per massage....and I don't know if you've ever rubbed someone down but I get sore / tired of it after 5 minutes. Imagine doing that for 50 minutes, 5 times a day! The extra tip is definitely well deserved. Also, since some people are members (who receive a discounted rate) and some are non-members, it's only fair to give the suggested tip amount. Since I "paid" $49 for my massage, it wouldn't be fair to Allison for me to give her 20% of that discounted rate, or $10, for a massage that retails for $100. Same reason that if you use a coupon at a restaurant, you are supposed to tip on the full meal, not the discounted amount. Anyways, this location is fantastic, I've always been impressed with the ME concept and also remember that every therapist is different - they are people, after all! Some are good, some are amazing, and some aren't so good. I've had my share of gum-smacking people work on me and I just tell the front desk when I go out...they're more than happy to set me up with someone else the next time (and sometimes even comp my massage)!! read more

I'm kinda of surprised by some of these reviews, because I've been to this location several times, and I've had excellent massages. I've tried a variety of therapists. I can honestly say I've had good work from each of them. I've actually let allot of physical problems build up over time, so I'm grateful they are so affordable, because I've been able to get allot of work done, to correct some of my issues. And, it's making a big difference. Of course, I'm going in for therapeutic value, which means, I'm sometimes in pain, when they're breaking up adhesions or moving fascia around, or trying to unlock parts that won't let go. I get 90 minute sessions, because I know myself well enough to know that I need serious warming before my body will allow them to go deep enough. I've been trained in massage therapy. So, I can tell you this. You need to experience more than one person, to find a handful that meet your needs. You also have to tell people what you want. If one therapist doesn't deliver, you try another.....until you find the right fit. It's the same process as finding your favorite book reviewer, bartender, hair dresser etc. You have to try several before you find the right fit. If spending allot of money makes you feel like you're getting what you pay for, then by all means spend it somewhere else. But, if getting the kinks worked out, relieving your stress, and making your body move better is what you're after, you may need more than one massage a month, and who can afford overly expensive massages. I get a $150 experience every time I go, for half that price. read more

I haven't posted a review in a while (mostly because I'm a teensy bitter Yelp! appears to have revoked my Elite 13 status since, after I received it, I didn't write enough reviews to keep it), but it would be a crime to not write something about the massage I got last night. Luis is AMAZING. Like, AMAZING!!! I have had a lot of massages in my time (a lot, but not enough) and I cannot recall one where I felt I had better communication. Before we started, Luis walked me over to a big diagram of women muscles, I pointed to where I was most sore, we talked through it all, and then when he went to work he honed in on those areas and boy goodness gracious was it awesome. He found all the worst areas and spent a luxurious amount of time on them. When my 90 minutes were over I wanted to grab onto the table/bed and yell "Nooo!! Don't leave me Luis! Don't leave me!!!!" I'm going back in two weeks. Awesome prices and awesome service! The woman at the front was super friendly, too. Totally exceeded my expectations! read more

I've been going to this branch of Massage Envy for over a year. It's clean and the staff is friendly. The key to having a successful experience is to find a great masseuse. It took me a few tries before I found a great one- her name is Evetta. Then when I got pregnant, I had to start my search again as I needed a therapist who is certified in pregnancy message. Again it took a few tries until I found Venisha. A couple things to note: * Of the dozen or so massage rooms, there are two massage rooms that share a door (instead of a wall). I don't remember which room numbers they are, but I've had this room twice and both times, the person who was getting a massage next door loved to talk during his entire session (yes, it was a man both times!) * There are signs for "suggested gratuities" all around the location, this only applies to you if your massage costs $99. If you're a member, your massage will cost much less so your tip will be less. read more

I made an appointment this morning. I had to cancel my appointment as I was stuck at work outside the city. I failed to read their cancellation policy before giving my credit card information, which was my mistake. But I called to reschedule for the next day with the same therapist if possible. I was told by Sergio the manager that I would lose all the money regardless. I understand that the therapist needs to get paid, that's why I wanted to reschedule with her. But as a new customer who could be a recurrent customer , is there no room to make an exception especially for this situation? But he seemed absolutely against helping me in any way. I decided to try this facility out, despite the poor ratings on this website and quite poor customer experiences mentioned in the reviews. I just donated money to your not for profit organization. 3.5....I REALLY want to give them a half of a star but they really arent a 4... Location-perfect for me Hours-TONS! So easy to get in for an apptmt. They are open early and late, weekends, weekdays...etc. Massage-Martin was pretty good. He definitely did deep tissue, which is what I asked for. He always asked about temperature, pressure, etc. Price-$49 introductory price....I think its fair. Its a no frills massage place. However, if you are like me, I find deals to massages all of the time so I never pay more than $50 for a massage...well, almost never so its really not that great of a deal. If you inquire they will tell you that they allow 5 mins pre and post massage for dressing, which is included in the 60min advertised massage. This place is so disorganized. I upgraded to the sugar foot scrub and aromatherapy, neither of which I got once inside the room. Booked a facial and a massage back to back. It was such a cluster for the facialist to get her stuff out of the room and had to make several trips with the lights full on. This is my second review of Massage Envy on Ohio. Every therapist I have had has been fantastic, although Gabby is the best. The sure sign of a good establishment is correcting mistakes. Since I go so often (twice a month), it was bound to happen sooner or later. The person booking the appointment accidently booked me for someone else rather than the therapist I asked for (Gabby). When I arrived, of course Gabby was not available. To make it right, I received a complementary one hour massage from another therapist, and they apoligized profusely. Hey, everyone makes mistakes occasionally. The true sign of a great establishment is how they correct it and Massage Envy did it GREAT! read more

I have no complaints about the massage therapists but the front desk and the rules that ME has are absolutely ridiculous. They do every thing they can to get more money out of you. They require a $10 "transfer" fee to give someone one of your credits....that you've already paid for. You can only let the same person use a credit every six months and yes, they do require that $10 transfer fee. I actually think their massage therapists are good but they should run out of ME and to a place that knows how to treat their customers. I canceled my membership (and believe me they put you through the ringer to cancel)because of the transfer fee and the one time every six month deal. I had him focus on my back and neck the whole 50 minutes and it was worth it. the awkward: I understand it's a membership but I wasn't prepared for the sales part. I wasn't interested - I can get a massage near my house for $65, so why pay $59/month (and be expected to tip $20)? Basic rooms. This place is a joke. I scheduled a 1 hour massage for 430 pm online through their scheduling system. I arrive 15 min early and the woman at the front desk tells me that my appt was at 530 pm (which it wasn't). So I gladly said I'll kill an hour and walk around. After an hour I return for my massage and they tell me that they double booked my massage time slot with someone who has the same name as I do. And there was no other appt available the rest of the evening until 9 pm. First of all its an online scheduling system so you can't double book a time unless you do it manually. Instead of admitting it was a mistake she just continued to lie to my face. This is not the first time I've had an issue with this place. Take your business somewhere else. read more

The saying "you get what you pay for" is rightly applicable here. The price points are good....$50 for a one time introductory session. Sign up for a monthly membership at $60 and that includes 1 massage session and subsequent hours are only $50. Non member prices are $100 for an hour massage which I don't think is necessarily worth it given the quality (see below). It's no frills in terms of quality. The facilities are just a lobby and a hallway with a bunch of massage rooms. No biggie, it's clean and all, just feels like an assembly line. The therapists newer and less experienced , which can often yield just an average massage session. But when scheduling an appointment I make a point of asking for a therapist who meets my specific needs (skilled in deep tissue, very firm pressure, etc) and seen to have better results this way vs. just taking who they give you and hoping he/she is good . Not a bad place if its close by and you are in a bind, but I'd rather spend a little more and get a high quality massage at a better spa than continue going here. read more

Everything about my January 2015 visit to this massage envy location was pleasant. I received a gift card for Christmas and it was enough for a 90 minute massage. This was my first massage anywhere, and the staff seemed to be very friendly and knowledgeable. I really wished I remembered the name of the massage therapist I had, because she was amazing. She applied the perfect amount of pressure and made me feel very comfortable. This location is very clean and I loved the heated table. I went on a day in which it was very cold outside and snowing all day, so the whole massage experience here was a great escape. I will be coming back in the future. read more

I try to give my business to locally owned establishments whenever possible. That said, it is hard for me to pass up a $49 hour long massage which is precisely what they offer here for first time members. The reception area feels a bit corporate compared to the salons I'm used to but that was to be expected. When the slightly socially awkward receptionist informed me that I will be seeing 'Amber' I was a little weary. Amber sounds like a nice gal but I was hoping for a name that was a bit more meaty sounding..like 'Sven'. Turns out, Amber was a dream come true. She did a fantastic job and applied just the right amount of pressure. She was very thorough and did not speak once (a huge plus in my book) except to ask me to roll over. She did a full body massage and left me in a state of utter bliss. I was so relaxed when I left the place that I could barely think straight. The customer service was amazing--let me start off by saying that. The ladies were nice and welcoming. Maybe I was a bit irritated the day I went in for my massage but the environment was not at all relaxing. They put you in a cold room pre-massage that has the greatest of intentions of being soothing but all I heard was the laughter of the people in the reception area. Ok--that's fine. I'll take that. The therapist was nice, but did not listen to my groans of pain as she elbowed her way down my back and kept saying how tense I was. Yes. I was tense because I was in pain due to that terrible massage. I was on defense about 75% of the time and was relieved when she was done. That has never happened before. This is the reasoning behind the 3stars. I have another hour to use so I'll just make sure she's not available next time I go. Next hour: The massage therapist was great this time, and I'll be back. "Member's area" is still very cold. The session actually lasted an hour this time and I was satisfied--not four stars yet, but at least I didn't walk out in pain like last time. I have another session this week which will determine whether or not I'll continue with them or not. read more

I love love LOVE this place. I've been to one in Ohio and now this one and haven't been disappointed. The lobby is a little small, but its nicely decorated and the greeting staff is friendly. The massage was excellent and the therapist who did my back found all my tight spots. I had a hard time leaving, as I felt so loose and relaxed afterwards. I've only been to two other salons/spas and so far this is the best. I signed up for the welness program, and its well worth the money. Today was my first Massage Envy experience and I have to say it was pleasant. I read the reviews earlier today and I have to admit I was a bit skeptical and honestly had it not been a gift I would have cancelled based on the reviews. I am so glad that I didn't! Starting with my first encounter all the way through check out everyone was great. The young ladies at the reception desk were friendly and courteous. While in the Relaxation Room a young man came in to advise that my therapist was running behind...this was fine with me; heck I was relaxing in the relaxation room and as long as it didn't take from my massage time I was cool with it and plus he was only about 10 minutes behind...it happens to the best of us. When the therapist did come he introduced himself. . .Demond! What a fabulous therapist. He took the time to ask some general questions in regards to what I wanted worked on and then he got to work. He recognized my trigger points and worked with me to breath through it and gave me a few wellness tips as well. She is lovely to talk to as well, if you feel like talking. She makes sure all of your requests are taken care of. Massage is a very good therapy for me. I feel so much better. Very excellent customer service, they booked me the day of for both a massage and a facial. My facial was without a doubt five stars considering the price and relaxation. The esthetician was friendly and super experienced while the facial massage and shoulder area massages were heavenly. I would return for facials without a doubt. I was not too thrilled with the massage though, masseuse did not really focus on any areas despite my telling her I got the massage for sore feet and shoulders. She seemed to be going through the motions and not very engaged in her task. I was not impressed and did not think she did any better a job than I could have done with my two hands. A friend bought me a gift card to this place. I wasn't sure what to expect because when looking at their website, the atmosphere just didn't scream, "hey, come here to relax." I would prefer a more spa like atmosphere where lights are dim and most importantly - I don't want to feel like somebody is trying to sell me something. However, right after my massage, I was continuously pressured to get the monthly deal. I'm sorry but my experience wasn't good enough to justify buying a massage every month. Mainly because of the reasons I have stated above. And because Groupon offers so many great deals lately for spas, I really can't justify committing to your massages every month. However, my massage was good and my massage therapist was decent. Not the best, but good enough considering it was a free massage. She hit the pressure points, she knew where I had tension/pain and she got rid of it. Also - I found it odd that the rooms were cold. As a place of relaxation, shouldn't the temperature be on the warmer side? Perhaps that's just a personal preference. I'd go back here but def would not pay $100 for a massage here. read more

I received a gift card to Massage Envy. Overall, I had an amazing experience. The front desk staff was warm and helpful. I highly recommend Erin. She was friendly, experienced, and made sure to ask me intermittently if the pressure was okay. She even showed me a few stretches at the end to get rid of the tightness between my shoulder blades. Also, the heated table was a nice touch (I don't know if that's standard, though... I don't get massages very often). Unlike some of the other reviewers, I didn't feel as if the staff pushed too hard to sell me on a membership. When I informed them I was a student and couldn't necessarily afford a monthly membership, they just told me about some of the deals they had going on and then backed off a bit. I was in tears...just a terrible experience. Massage Envy did not charge me, thank goodness. I will NEVER book a massage random massage therapist ever again. But then I found Kate! Not a great start, but John saved the day! My fiancé and I booked a couples massage which we confirmed before arriving. When we got there they were not able to provide this for us. My fiancé had a wonderful experience, however, mine was awful. I contacted the location a couple of days later and was beyond impressed with John at the front desk! He was courteous and respectful and was determined to make the situation better! He refunded my massage and set my fiancé and I up with a new appointment with a different masseuse. Everything was done very quickly and without stress to us! John is the main reason we will be returning to this location!
