My husband and I love Masullo Pizza. This is one of our favorite places in Sacramento. The crust is excellent and the salads are really fresh. We are picky pizza people from Connecticut - Masullo is what I call "Italy Pizza" What you would expect to get at any restaurant in Italy. The space could be loud when there are a lot of people bc its open but it's cozy, inviting, and they have a really nice live edge communal table in the center. The service is always friendly but can be slow at times depending on when you go. For some reason we always seem to show up right after everyone else just ordered. But its worth the wait. read more

I'm flabbergasted by the negative reviews criticizing Masullo's decor...especially when the focus in a restaurant is the FOOD. Guess what, people? Not every pizza establishment requires multiple television screens, soda by the pitcher or parents allowing their misbehaving brats to run amuck. Sometimes, I do like to appreciate my dinner in relative peace and quiet. The decor is minimal, which allows the beauty of the food to really shine. The tomato-based 3 Meats showcases local ricotta cheese and a glistening combination of artisanal salami, sausage and mortadella. The Pilar, a sauceless pizza with mozzarella, grana padano and Niman Ranch ham is a real standout; without tomatoes, the cheeses are far more prevalent. The service was excellent, and I'm not just saying that because we were addressed as "beautiful people" (but it helps - ha). Additionally, our server did not bat an eyelash when we presented our Entertainment Book coupon. Next time we'll try the desserts...and perhaps another Pilar! read more

My husband and I had dinner here with our cousin recently and it was a very enjoyable meal considering that we were in good company. Unfortunately, the restaurant is quite small with family style bench seating so it can be hard to get seated, especially with a larger group. There are three tables out front but not ideal when it's cold or wet outside. Service was good. Decent menu selection. I was not impressed with our green salad but their bread is on point. Their pizzas were great. We got Gilda and Eileen. The Eileen pizza was extremely flavorful. Both pizzas had a nice thin crust and good chewy texture. We ventured here after a visit at the zoo during the week. We arrived when they first opened at 11am. There is limited parking in front of the actual restaurant, be mindful of that. Since we were one of the first to arrive there was plenty of seating. We had kids with us so we sat at longer table with bench seating. It's a smaller place but fun modern touches to is. We started of with sons lemonade spritzer where they make the lemonade on house. These were refreshing after running around the zoo all morning. Then we tried their meatballs as appetizers. They did not disappoint. Full of flavor with fresh ingredients. There are chunks of white in there and we thought originally it was chunks of cheese. It was actually small chunks of bread. Looked odd but tasted yummy! The pizza were made in a brick oven and reminded our friend of her trip to Italy. They were also yummy! Though we had kids it wasn't the most kid friendly place as it was smaller and noise can travel easily. We still had a great time though! Great place for a fun date night! read more

We love Masullo--don't get me wrong, but have had a harder and harder time being vegetarian. Having one vegan option isn't what I'm talking about here. It's actually creating and catering to vegetarians. Making options that are just as creative for vegetarians as for meat eaters. Right now the option often suggested by servers is to just take out the meat, but that often leaves a flavor missing from the pizza. Please Masullo--do more for the vegetarians! read more

Great handmade thin crust Pizza. Not too much cheese and light on the sauce if any. Our favorites are the Gilda and Marguerite. We try a new one each week we go. Absolutely in love with their salads. With Simple, light dressings the salads compliment the pizza. The Fall Chop is addictive and the Arugula Salad is comfort food. Like that the salad is not over dressed . Allows for the flavors of the greens and fruit to shine through. I'd have to say the pizzas are best enjoyed at the restaurant fresh out of the brick wood fired oven. So Delish! Great pizza - perhaps the best in Sacramento. Probably closest contender to "best pizza" this side of Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix. Definite "needs improvement" items: Lighting: no lights out front, even with outside seating? No "Open" sign? Seriously, nothing lit outside whatsoever. Driving by at night, I couldn't tell if the place was even open. The worst part was trying to get back to my car after leaving the restaurant. Really dangerous trying to get to my vehicle in such darkness - I nearly tripped over some concrete risers. Parking: very strange parking setup... A few parking spaces right in front of the place. Lame for people eating outside, as cars drive right up to the outside tables, drenching the diners in car headlights. Service: Slow-moving, not very attentive staff. Paper napkins?? Come on...take a clue from One Speed, and get some nice linens. read more

Good artisanal pizza! In particular, the Eileen Pizza with Mozzarella, mushies, bacon, cream sage, and black pepper, was really tasty. My favorite part about the pizza was the flavored crust. So many people talk about ingredient stinginess on Yelp (and other sites), you'd think the owners would take notice and alter their recipe a bit, especially considering the high cost of the pizza. Masullo's is officially my favorite pizza place. I had heard that this was the place to go to get some authentic pizza and it did NOT disappoint. All the ingredients seems very fresh and quality. The dough is just slightly sweet and has the perfect consistency, a little crunch on the outside, warm and doughy on the inside. The service was spot on (granted I was the only person there, but that's neither her nor there). Paul was really hospitable and attentive yet not pushy. However, when we got into the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised at how cute it was and how friendly the staff was. We ordered the mixed green salad and the American pizza. The salad came out first and was fresh and delicious. The pizza came out shortly after, and was perfect. My boyfriend claims it is the best pizza he has ever had. An unexpected surprise! I found this little gem tucked in the outskirts of Land Park. It was a beautiful breezy perfect weather day and I needed a place to eat and relax after a busy week. I was in major #treatyoself mode, so I started out with a glass is their house red. I could have easily taken an entire bottle down by myself. It was light, fruity, and satisfying. It came served in a casual little 1/2 pint glass, which fit the backyard patio atmosphere perfectly. I started out with a mixed greens salad and was so excited to see that it came with two gorgeous pieces of fresh baked bread. I dove in to my "main dish" of Tova pizza - a simple, perfectly flavored vegan pizza. Although I was truly enjoying this solo experience, I wished I'd had a friend with me, so I could try another pizza and get more wine :) I felt like I could sit at this large picnic table by myself all day. Stopped by here for dinner, it was our first time, so we ordered 3 pizzas: Margherita: simple mozzarella with basil--really yummy!! This by far is the best restaurant in the Landpark/Greenhaven/Pocket area....a true hidden gem. When I walked into the place I was extremely impressed with the modern decor. However, once I got my food I was beyond impressed. You can tell as soon as you taste your first bite of pizza that they use fresh quality ingredients. My fiancé and I got the American pizza....we loved it so much we came back the next day to have it again. I shamelessly must admit that I had Masullo for lunch today and I want to go back for dinner. Small restaurant on Riverside. Very few parking in front of building but in the evening, you're able to park next door at the auto body and smog shop. Inside, they have a few tables for two against the wall and two community tables in the down the middle. The place is small. It think the max capacity is, like, 30. Open kitchen. I like that they offer local goods like Vic's Ice Cream, Revolution Wines, and Chocolate Fish Coffee. Their menu is mainly pizza (and they bring grated cheese and spicy olive oil with them) but they also have Appetizers, Salads, and Desserts. In fact, this is where I found pudding is not the pudding I knew as a child. I ordered pudding expecting some chocolate-y, silky, Bill Cosby pudding and it was more like cold solid yet creamy fudge. Margherita pizza is really a tomato sauce with a light cheese base and three small basil leaves, it is missing substance! No tomatoes, no mozzarella beyond the basic spread. I recommend you get the "weirdest" sounding pizzas (not just pepperoni--though it's good, too); you'll be pleasantly surprised. (Pizzas here are small and "light" compared to other places. Plan accordingly.) I've been going here for years now, but after the first few visits I realized all other pizza places use a disgusting amount of cheese and sauce. Masullo knows what actually tastes good. More is not always better; balanced is best. Don't overlook the pasta options, and definitely get the mussels: reasonably priced and delicious. We really love Masullo and I can't believe I haven't left a review yet. The rosemary bread alone is enough to keep us coming back (oil not needed in my opinion). The thin crust pizza is fabulous, my only complaint is it doesn't really travel/do take-out well. But, that probably saves me from coming here once a week. So dining in is my pro tip and the service and staff are always stellar. We were here last night and it was late on a Friday, but unusually packed. You can order beer/drinks while you wait and I've never had a waitstaff be so apologetic about the wait. Their salads change seasonally and their deserts rotate as well. Sometimes they miss on a salad, but 95% of the time they are wonderful. This place was a treat. Came here with a friend of mine and he had heard about this place from a friend of his as well. I really do love with fired oven pizza and they know how to do them here. The dough was nice and had good flavor along with all of their ingredients. It looks like they either make their own Olive oil or they partner with someone to make it. The aluminum container that they provide the meal in is too big. They should put it in a smaller container, I would suggest that you do not order the pasta of the day for a meal. It's an appetizer. Camabert Salad: Nothing fancy but it was fresh and enough for two people to share a small portion of salad. The crispy cracker topping was a bit too salty for my liking. Margherita Pizza: Classic clean flavor. My only complaint is that they only had three small basil leaves on the entire pizza. They should put enough so that each slice has some basil on it. How come I never knew about this place. I was looking through instagram and saw this place.. We came here tonight for dinner and it was bit hard to find at first due to lighting.. but the food though on the other hand, it was incredible. We ordered the meatball, 3 meat pizza and mussels. The meatball was amazing, has tons of flavour, super moist. Pizza was incredible, it was he perfect size for 2 people. Needless to say, I be coming back for more.
