Pretty much an A-OK experience. Visited Mattitos for lunch on a Thursday with some coworkers, since it's close to our office. We were seated right away and brought a bowl of chips and three small bowls of salsa, one per person (which is nice, no worries about swapping germs!) I ordered the Lunch Special #7, a taco salad. I asked for no meat and no sour cream, and my request was easily accommodated. The salad was just okay. It was a lot of shredded lettuce on top of some kind of melted cheese/bean mix, served in a fried flour tortilla bowl and topped with guac, shredded cheese, and tomatoes. Didn't seem as healthy as I was hoping for it, but probably my best bet health-wise. Our waiter was certainly attentive, but we were three women and he kept calling us "sweetie" and "girls". It would have been okay once or twice, but it was every time he visited the table. It got old fast. "Are you girls ready to order?" "Let me take that plate for you, sweetie". Overall, a perfectly fine place for a business lunch on a weekday, but by far not my favorite Mexican in Dallas. read more

I recently shared a poor experience I had at Mattitos. Now, I'm going to share a great one! We had an office party near the end of December. The guest were invited and the food was ordered, but then fell through at the last minute. We decided on mexican food from OTB, but after two hours of waiting a returned call I finally called them and was told they couldn't cater or deliver and basically we were out of luck. I then called Mattitos, since the owner reached out to me on Yelp to apologize, and talked to their manager, Gabriel. I didn't mention my prior experience, but didn't have to as he went above and beyond what anyone could have ever hoped for. 1) he hooked us up with a 3rd party margarita machine vendor and then stayed on the phone and walked me through the specific bevy's we would need to add to the mix. 2) he was patient in helping me figure out what to have on the menu and even offered a discount even though the party was last-minute. 3) he provided all the food, plates, servers and everything in my office from start to finish of the party. 4) CHECK THIS OUT, they cooked most of the food right in my office so that it was extra fresh AND they helped serve the food, margaritas and even helped heat up and serve food that we provided. BASICALLY they acted like family filling in the gap and doing whatever was needed to make it a great party. They were incredibly hospitable and couldn't have made it a better experience. I believe a good Tex Mex restaurant needs to make the staples well (Cheese Enchiladas, Fajitas, chips and salsa). I came here for lunch and ordered the number three. two cheese enchiladas, a tamale, with a chili con carne gravy, with rice and beans. The cheese enchiladas were excellent. I haven't been to any of their other locations yet, so I guess I went in with a clean slate for any expectations. When we arrived there were a bunch of people waiting to be seating, but one of the servers saw that there were only three of us and immediately asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar and so we did. Beats having to wait around for lunch. Not even a minute after sitting down a lady brought over chips and salsa and extra salsa for my friends that seem to take shots of that stuff. Our drinks came soon after and they were quick with the refills throughout our lunch. Having snacked a little before lunch, I just opted for the #2 combo which was an enchilada of my choice and a beef taco and of course the obligatory sides of beans and rice, I hardly ever eat all the beans and rice. The sour cream and chicken enchilada and the taco tasted great. I tasted the beans and rice, but they were just meh. Based on the other previous reviews, I think they've gotten their kinks worked out now. I'd definitely give them another try and I'll probably be back for happy hour. I LOVE Mattito's! This is my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. The place has a very colorful and lively atmosphere... There's an indoor and outdoor patio that is great to enjoy during beautiful Dallas days (not many, i know). What I like the most about this place is that you can definitely tell it is a Tex-Mex restaurant. I have too often wondered in other eateries whether my food was too mexican or too texan to be categorized as "Tex-Mex." At Mattito's, I can taste the delicious blend that makes this cuisine truly unique. This is a great place to introduce tex-mex to out-of-town/country visitors. Definitely try the Bob Armstrong dip. It is a queso dip that is full of ground beef, simmered tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream. Yum yum... For entrées, I recommend the Baja Shrimp Alambres, enchiladas de mariscos (shrimp enchiladas), and brisket tacos. The only con for this place is its price! This place is definitely expensive, but the food makes the occasional visit well worth it. read more

Salsa is made fresh so the spicyness varies. It's very good! The Bob Armstrong (queso dip with beef, sour cream, guacamole, etc) is fabulous! Those get 4 1/2 stars. Anything after that is just okay. I recommend the ground beef tacos. They are consistently good. But really anything after the salsa and Bob, it's just mediocre. read more

This place is the go to for a casual Tex-mex! The staff was helpful. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe - I dig it. If your looking for a place to meet for drinks this is the place. My favorite drink is the Rumba Rita! Can't go wrong. They have a happy hour during the week - and two of those paired with a little chips and salsa will have you ready to dance. Haha. Its great. The guacamole is a must order - it pairs perfectly with the salsa. (If you like your salsa with a kick then this will suit you!) I was fairly underwhelmed. I like the Mattitos in Uptown but I think in hindsight I like the location and feel of the uptown Mattitos and not as much the food. So even though it is the same food (which I find underwhelming), the atmosphere just isn't the same. I would probably recommend you pass on this Mattitos, there are just too many places in Dallas to get great Mexican food to settle. read more

I rarely eat TexMex but this place was reaaallllly good! The food quality and quantity, the crispy n buttery-like tortilla chips they have are the best ones I've ever tasted in my life, the atmosphere, the customer service was great, he was super kind and attentive and it was overall an amazing experience, really. This place is good if your trying to get a couple drinks in! They have happy hour from 4-7 and it's $5 for top shelf margaritas. They also have free buffet of appetizers like chips and salsa, burrito and some other dips. They also have a really good cake, idk if it's bought from a store but it taste homemade! Really recommend getting dos leaches cake! read more

Soooooo I have never been here before a few friends and I wanted to try something new. We ordered chips with queso and the queso was nothing special tasted like plain melted velveeta cheese I order chicken tacos which came with two, and a very small side of rice and beans. The chicken was very delicious so juicy and tender. However the rest of the plate was very basic and pain. We waited 10 min after being seated at our table eating chips and salsa before I had to go to the manager and ask if we were going to get a server. 5 min after that our server took some of our drink orders but not all ‍ We split an appetizer platter on which the queso and quac was not even enough to allow everyone to try it. In town and made a point of doing lunch at Mattito's one day. As before, we ordered the Bob dip as it is always great. Good selection of wine and beers. Normally, I would dive head first into one of the enormous burritos but today I chose the taco salad. I went for the upgrade to fajita meat and glad I did from the flavor point of view. A little tougher than I expected but ample serving size and big flavor. My wife asked the waitress if she could get a chimichanga and she said yes. (They have done this on at least two previous visits.) This time even though the waitress said yes, the kitchen must have said nope. What arrived at the table was the burrito. Disappointing but not a deal breaker. On the upside, it was large and loaded with flavor. But it was not what was ordered. Bottom line is we like Mattito's and we will be back next time we come to Dallas. read more

I've been to this place several times. Maybe I have been lucky, but I have not had any service issues. The wait staff has always been attentive. My bowl of chips stays full, salsa cups stay full. Food comes out quickly. I usually go during the lunch hour. I have been once or twice after work, and it seems fairly consistent. The food will not blow you away but it is standard Tex Mex, and that's all they are attempting to be. The prices are not much more (if at all) than Taco Bueno, and you will get a better experience. I'm meeting my sister up there tomorrow, so if anything changes, I'll adjust my review. read more

Mattitos is yummy yummy in my tummy! I've been to a couple locations and each time, the food hits the spot. The avocado enchiladas specifically! Also, the margaritas are strong and they do the trick! The service is very nice and our server made sure we got the Happy Hour prices before it ended which showed he was looking out for us! Real quick. Seems like the menu has changed = not good. Portions are smaller and quality is lower. For example, rice and beans come in odd shapes and a small ceramic container. While this kind of plating might be nice at a modern more expensive restaurant - we all know what's going on here, smaller quantities, portion standardization, and cost cutting. Also the grilled jalapenos which used to be fantastic have been replaced with grilled serranos that are WAY too hot - almost inedible! The bacon wrapped shrimp was not good on my most recent visit and I felt like I had to beg every time I wanted more chips and salsa. While I used to like Mattito's, I don't anymore, I won't be back, and I don't recommend. read more

Where do I start? This was absolutely Awful! Other Mattito's restaurants are pretty good but the food here was ordinary to sub ordinary according to my fellow diners. I am gluten intolerant and Mexican restaurants are fairly easy to find safe options for me. I carry cards for different ethnic restaurants that clearly state what I can and cannot eat. They are written in English and the language of the food - in this case Spanish so the manager and cook will have no language barrier to understanding. Bottom line, the waiter was clueless but did the right thing and got his manager. The manager was rude, insulting and completely unwilling to help. I can go on but you get the idea. This is not a customer centered restaurant, to say the least. read more
