I love PR and was actually going there on my cruise. The food looked delicious, the portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable. I called my husband and told him to get ready for a feast! Ever drive by a restaurant close to home and tell yourself, I've gotta stop in and try that place, looks like the food will be good. Matt's was that place for me. We stopped in last night to check the place out. Things started out good, the food looked good, smelled great, people were friendly. We ordered the Mofongo with pork to go and the roast pork dinner with mash potatoes and vegetables. The pork was really tough but tasted good, the mofongo has bits that could've cooked longer. Unfortunately, neither of us felt well after our meals, which contributes my hesitation to return. If I did however, the chicken looked really good, and the bacalao salad looked really good too. My sister opinion was, "it's like putting potato chips in a sandwich and mashing it together and putting it in the oven." Her pork combo was extremely salty to me but she seemed to like it. My friends and I had lunch at Matt's Latin BBQ yesterday, and we enjoyed our experience. First of all, the service was very good. The women who made our plates and took our payments were both very nice. Also, it was New Years Day, so it was nice to have somewhere to eat, and in grateful for people working so that I could eat. Thanks, ladies! I appreciate you. The food was very good, and though I haven't had Puerto Rican fast food before, I was happy with what I ate. My friends and I asked what our server recommended, and she suggested a fried pork (not sure what the name is). It was quite tasty, though a tad dry and quite salty. Better than underseasoned, though. The plates also come with two sides and a drink. I got yellow rice and plantains. Both of those were really good. I ate about half of my plate, and I was full, so I got a takeout container to save my leftovers for later. I've been enjoying them! Probably the highlight of my meal was the lechon that my friend shared with me. If you don't know what lechon is, it's fried pork belly. So good! It was crispy and fatty like everyone likes it. However, at some places the skin is rock hard for sitting too long, but at Matt's, the skin was still crispy. I enjoyed my time at Matt's and would return again. Martin's BBQ makes me think of Pollo Tropical's step-child. They offer similar types of entrees and sides at a very reasonable price. The interior is nothing fancy, but is clean and does the trick. A lot of the items revolve around chicken and yellow rice, and they also have some tasty plantains. Similar to Pollo Tropical, you get to pick side items with whichever main entree you choose. The only reason I rate this place 1 star is because Yelp doesn't allow for negative star rating As a fan of Puerto Rico's cuisine and being Puerto Rican myself this place was a major disappointment. The food was mediocre, but the customer service was horrendous. I found out about this restaurant through a feature on the TV show VICELAND, Huangs World. The show made out the restaurants food and customer service to be exceptional. However it was far from that. I decided to invite my family of eight out to eat some authentic Spanish food. As we arrive we are welcomed with "We don't have chillo", "No, we can't give you fresh pernil (it looked dry, like it had been sitting there entire day) and by the way the mofongo's are going to take 15-20 mins." Instead of taking the orders and serving the client the staff seemed like they didn't really want to go through the extra effort to prepare a mofongo. Mind you we were the only ones in line and you'd think they want the additional revenue on a higher cost plate. Overall the experience was horrible. Don't waste your time with this place and go to Melao Bakery for better Spanish criollo food and superior service. read more

I've been going to Martin's BBQ for the last few years. As a matter fact I make a point of going when in the area. This is not what we Americans think of BBQ, it's what I suppose you find in Puerto Rico. Regardless you can have a very tasty meal for well under $10, 1/2 rotisserie chicken with 2 sides and a drink for around $8. Whatever to spices are that they use on the chicken I wish they sold it. It's had to describe, just say it's the perfect chicken spice. All the side are typical Caribbean food, beans, rice, plantains, etc. Try the mofongo, plantains smashed with spices, garlic, and pork. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. The chicken is has always been moist with a crispy skin. My only issue is that when busy which is often, service is often disorganized and slow. Wait, that is my brother's name. Was so, so happy to find this place. I was getting so tired of the usual fast food burgers, nuggets, heros dreck. Food was decent. Not great compared with all the beautiful latino dives scattered around my beautiful Gotham but in Orlando, especially near the airport, beggars can't be choosers. I will say that the Yuca was delectably greasy and soft. Maduros, tostones, chicken all done very well. Ribs were a bit on the sweet side but my kids loved it. It's cheap, clean and better than regular fast food restaurants, it's a casual place to eat something different. I called first asking for delivery but they say they don't deliver anymore. I went there and ordered 2 different combos Ate first one there and took the other one home First was BBQ ribs, 2 sides(corn and yellow rice) and soda $7.29 Ribs were cold and lack of meat and not so tasty, rice was simply ok. Second was Half BBQ chicken and Mofongo(tipical Pto Rican Mashed green plantain with fried pork skin(chicharron) and soda$7.89 wich was really good, chicken was delicious and tasty, and mofongo was really good too with lots on small chunks of pork. Went to this place for the first time and it was ok nothing to write home about. For a place that's right down the street from me it's cool but I think I would rather cook or go to another place that's further for Spanish food, not saying I would never go back there cause I would just wouldn't be my first choice with all the restaurants by me. I ordered the white rice with pork called (pernil) with a seafood salad, seafood salad was good but the pork was ok I do a better pernil. I also tried the chicken stew and the yuca, again not bad at all but I could make a better chicken stew and I had a better chicken stew at another place. So, one day my friend got to-go from here and feeds me this awesome lechon. Lechon, yanno succulent pork enveloped in crispy skin. I'm like, tell me where this place is asap! For those that want to know, Martin's is on the corner of semoran and lee vista, it's near MCO. One evening I was craving some lechon so I went to Martin's for dinner with the bf. We walked in and the dining area was half filled with 5-6 people waiting in line. Ordering is cafeteria style, point and nod. When it was our turn, I asked in English if they had lechon because I didn't see it. The girl behind the counter told me what you see is what we have. Disappointed, I turned to my bf and told him to order while I decided what I wanted. Seeing me disappointed my bf turned to the girl and asked her in Spanish if they even sold lechon. Turns out they do, but they sell out time to time. It's better to go earlier in the day or order ahead. I looked at the menu again and decided I want bacalao. The girls again told me no, they don't have it. By then, the other person taking orders turned to her and said in Spanish,"What are you doing? We have some in the back. Go get her some." So, I finally got some dinner, yay! The portion was $9-$10, but it came with a side of rice and a drink. Bacalao is salted cod fish, and the dish I got was a salted cod fish salad. Just imagine salty fish pieces mixed with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and olive oil. I didn't get what I came for, but I left satisfied. Tip? If you like authentic Puerto Rican food then I would not recommend this place. This is very close to my job so when I am in the mood for Spanish food I go here. Today I ordered bistec with onions. I did not like it. The meat was cut to thick. The flavor of the food is very off. I also ordered white rice with beans and maduros. The beans tasted to burnt for me and missing seasoning for me. I didn't like this food before but decided to give it another try since it's so close. My boyfriend ordered the Pernil and they barely put any meat in the plate. Take a look at this picture. Yuck. This place offers a lot of different dishes and combinations. We tried the 1/4 chicken with white rice, Tostones and boiled Yuca. The flavors were very good, balanced and well seasoned. We enjoyed our meal very much! The only thing I tried and didn't like was the Chicharrón. I know it's meant to be dry but it was extremely dry and the taste was bland. A couple of bites and I'd had enough. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. Although they need to work on having someone tending the front at all times as sometimes they get busy in the back and disappear. I will admit I've had better but it'll do for a lazy night when you don't want to cook but want the feel of a home cooked meal (for us Latinos, anyway). The food is great whether you have chicken, fish or pork; grilled, broiled, rotisserie, or bbq all have been very tasty and very filling. So I've been to Matt's several times (even years ago when it was called Martin's!) and the food is always good. Order your mofongo ahead because it takes about 10-15 minutes for them to make it fresh (who doesn't love that!) and the salads and rice are all pretty good. Last time I went was Monday and I don't know if it was a bad batch but the roasted pork was severely undercooked. I took a bite and it was all pink, gross! Make sure you are taking the time to look at the quality of everything hat comes out of the kitchen because I've never had a problem with the chicken, turkey, or steak here. Be careful with the pork but the yellow rice is awesome! I will be back when I'm craving Puerto Rican good (which is a lot) since I live in the area but careful with the pork! read more

We went over there today, the service was a bit slow but we understand that perhaps the food is fresh. We order four mofongo with steak and while we waited the cashier yelled at us from the register to the table that they had ran out of steak and perhaps we wanted beefsteak instead... well, as long as they deduct the amount I paid and give me a refund... then all the sudden, there is more steak! She just said we just had to wait a bit longer. So would I have said it's ok and not ask for a refund then they would have given me something else other than what we order... not cool. Spent a week in Orlando on vacation and couldn't find good latin food anywhere until we found this place. First off, Miguel and the rest of the staff was so welcoming. My sister and I eerr talking about the bad food we had in Orlando so he let us taste a sample of the yellow rice ( arroz amarillo) and it was delicious.
