This place use to be good but I got sick 2 out 3 times going here for my trip of 2 weeks. The other time the food was bland. What happened here? I really use to like this place but people have attitudes now and are contaminating the food. Watched someone handle money then the silverware the last time I was there. Much like alot of the people reviewing this place my main reason for a low score is simply because of the customer service. Hands downs some of the worst customer service i have experienced in a restaurant, it seems like the people who work are miserable and take it out on the customers. Mofongo is fresh to order. The food is flavorful. It would get 5 starts if the whole staff was friendly. There are a couple here who should stick to making food rather than interacting with customers. The owner is a super nice guy though and so is most of the rest of the staff. I've been trying for try this place after seeing it on a tv show. Finally on a road trip and we made a quick stop. It did not disappoint!! The roasted chicken was to die for! The meat comes of the bones so juicy and delish! Of course we had to try the mofongo! Amazing, even though we had to wait a while since they prepare it fresh. I ordered lunch for a customer that asked for PR food - mofongo and chillo (snapper). I ordered by phone and went to the restaurant for pick up. The place is very clean and smelled good! Customer service was superb! My customers enjoyed the food and I was more than happy! I ordered 3 mofongo with chillo frito. For desserts- flan de vainilla (vanilla custard PR recipe) and tree leches. All was very good and well packed to go! I remember when this place was Martin's a few years back and the food was really good, but hadn't been back in years. on my way back from the airport one night, I decided to give it another whirl since I had remembered how good it was. I ordered two mofongo dishes and the chicken with rice and beans. the mofongo was dry with no flavor and the pernil was chunks of dry pork, it wasn't even shredded. my chicken was OKAY, but let me take a min to talk about the beans. they were disgusting. that's the only word to describe them. they were watery and had a weird oily flavor. the rice was hard and since they didn't tell me I could chose my side from everything shown, I only chose from the right side. I chose the batata, which had no flavor to it. save yourself the heartache and drive 15 min away to the lechonera on dean and colonial. your stomach will thank you for it. read more

Don't bother going here if you don't enjoy being screamed at in Spanish, being forced to wait over 30 minutes for your order and still ending up with a item that was completely unappetizing and inedible. Also if you are not Latino, probably best to avoid as you will not be given good service. I went in today on my lunch break, with a friend(who is fluent in Spanish). My friend ordered for me since my Spanish is very rusty. He had just started to order the chicken sandwich for me, and the woman behind the counter starts barking at me in Spanish very aggressively. He then had to explain to her that he was ordering for me and then had to order his fried pork as well. The entire time the woman is just glaring at me. I did ask that there be no tomatoes on my sandwich and the cashier very nicely told the woman cooking that. I paid for our food and we went and sat down, knowing it takes a few minutes to cook. A few minutes later the fried pork was ready for my friend, but I figured my sandwich would be ready shortly after. We sat and my friend ate his food (which was apparently as much gristle as it was pork) while we watched several other orders get made and called. Finally as we are about to be out of time, they call my sandwich. I figure"hey I got my sandwich, will eat on the way, no prob!" :) Nope, as I get in the car and open my sandwich, it is not toasted at all, it is soaked/soggy, and there are a ton of tomatoes jammed in it. And the tiny shredded meat that is in there is not even warm. So I ended up throwing it away and running through a drive through to get lunch. This is the second time that my order has been intentionally either messed up or last time it was burnt to a crisp. I hate to say I feel that it is based on the fact that im not Latino and my Spanish is very basic, but that is the feeling I get. I am not a barbecue fan but the ribs are amazingly delicious. They are not saucy but low sticky and a perfect texture. I've had the pernil, yellow rice, and plaintains. All very nice tasting. Martin's is a fast food chain. The food is served cafateria style, in large serving dishes on display in the counter. Service is immediate and prices are low. They do a booming take out business. The food was OK, and they give you plenty of it. I think you can find independent establishments in town that serve the same menu and put more love into it. read more

Horrible Spanish food. They are a cafeterria style eatery which looks like it does mostly carry out business. Ordered the Stewed Beef with Yellow Rice. The beef, broth, and rice are way too salty. Found a bay leaf mixed in with the beef. That was fun chewing on. Next time try to get the bay leaves out before you scoop the food on to the plate. Also ordered half chicken. Looks like it was rotisserie but was rubbery and dry. I would reccomend Guavate or even Pollo Tropical as an alternative. read more
