Went in on a busy weekend, We had the nastiest waitress who would just ignore her section of table when people would nicely say they're ready to order or try and ask a question. Ordered buttermilk pancakes with sausage, and I don't know why the food tasted okay initially but left an unpleasant after taste in my mouth. I doubt the food ingredients are bad, and my body somehow has very sensitive reactions to low quality food ingredients (it makes me feel sick in the stomach). For 3 pancakes, it costs 8.50, so I would suggest people to go elsewhere because it does not worth that much at all. read more

I am SHOCKED by the rude service I just encountered at Maugus Restaurant. Today I called the restaurant because my 12-year old son was going to eat lunch with some friends there. He has allergies to milk and egg so I wanted to make sure he would be able to have a sandwich. I have never encountered such HORRIBLE, VOLATILE behavior from a restaurant employee in my life. I began by asking if the woman who answered the phone could look at the ingredients in the standard white bread that they serve to make sure it was safe for my son. Clearly annoyed with me, she proceeded to tell me that "she doesn't make the bread, she has no idea what is in bread, she doesn't know how to make bread, and how is she supposed to know this information." She went on to ask me several times how I "as his mother" didn't know this information. Because she did not seem to understand the question I was asking-I tried again telling her what his allergies were (milk and egg.) I asked very politely if she would be able to check one of the packages before my son came in to eat with his friend. She repeatedly kept saying that "she had no idea about ingredients-and did I know them?" I then asked her if I would be able to speak to the manager and she said that she WAS the manager. I followed up with asking if the restaurant was trained in food allergy awareness and she claimed that they were. She then proceeded to swear at me and hang up the phone. Shocked, (and because my son really wanted to have lunch with his friends) I called back and politely told her that we may have been disconnected. She swore at me again and hung up. I understand that restaurants and businesses are under a great deal of stress right now. I get it. However, this was clear food allergy discrimination and aside from that, a terrible way of conducting business. I will NEVER eat at Maugus Restaurant and advise anyone with a food allergy to NEVER eat there. They clearly have not a care for anyone with a food allergy or in dealing with a willing, paying customer. read more

In a city where there are few restaurants that serve breakfast Maugus is one of the better restaurants. The food is good but not over the top if you are looking for the real breakfast experience. Have lived in Wellesley for 31 years, and eat at the Maugus for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday nights when available, The Maugus is an institutuin in Wellesley and is owned by a lovely family who care about home made food very much. Pancakes a great, french toast, scrambled eggs, omlets, fresh home fries and toast of your choice. Do you like a fresh turkey club, turkey cooked fresh each and every day and then created into a marvel of a classic and large turkey club, no turkey roll here, no way on earth. Greek dishes, and oh, the egg lemon soup is just amazing and good for a cold as well. Friday nights, they have a Boston quality dinner and live music at times. I had a Salmon dish that was an amazing value, and mashed potatoes that will extend your life 20 years because it is so great. See local sports players, red Sox owners love the Maugus and they are polkite as well. The wait staff are colorful and old friends. They make the experience human and friendly. Do yourself a favor and try the maugus if you have not, and if you are a regular than you know, you can cross The Cottage Restaurant off your list. Food there is dog food. read more

I came here for the first time today and I will never be back. Our server had an attitude and actually left during her shift because she said she "didn't want the f***ing table." She kept swearing nonstop until she ditched our table and left her shift. She was fighting with the other workers and was extremely rude. She also yelled out that there was a child molester working in the kitchen and that they were serving expired food. One of the gentlemen working in the kitchen coughed on the food as he was putting it out to the ledge and didn't even bother to cover his mouth. This place is not worth four stars by any means in our experience. The orange juice was the same quality as the gallon jug from Cumberland farms for 1 dollar. 5 dollars for a rotten fruit bowl? French toast was decent at best. It was overcooked and the bread was thin. 33 dollars for a breakfast for two. It was worth maybe half that. The service was good but that's about it. This is a nice Greek place with good food all around. I am a Greek Salad condenseur and always get their salads. I just wish they would use that unpasteurized feta that most places use. Mmm. I love how this place has breakfast everyday of the week. They typically close after 3pm or so I believe though for breakfast. Although I would honestly rate the food a 3 as its nothing too special (doesn't taste bad but it's not mouthwateringly delicious either), I'm giving it 4 stars because this place has great service. It's a very homey diner where the waitresses and chefs are very, very friendly and know you by name if you come often. They have the breakfast staples, french toast, chocolate chip pancakes, omelettes and so on. I enjoyed my Sunday experience at Maugus. My girlfriend and I walked in 15 minutes before closing and were warmly welcomed. The service was prompt, the food was tasty. I ordered a gyro with fries and would do the same again. My only critique is that I was asked to decide if I wanted breakfast or lunch before browsing the menu. Great little family owned diner. Came here for my friends a couple of times for brunch. This place is self seated and the food comes out quickly. I recommend sitting at the bar because service can be a little inattentive throughout the meal. When it comes to the food, the best thing here is probably their super fluffy pancakes. I've been going to Maugus since I was a preteen but I still occasionally go there for breakfast to reminisce with my girlfriends. I am a big fan of their breakfast. I always get a breakfast sandwich and fries and there aren't many places who serve french fries before noon so I am always very grateful. The servers are always very friendly and even when the place is packed, the servers do well at attending to everyone in a timely manner.This is definitely a kid-friendly restaurant with lots of regular families.
